HeatDeath

The lack of respect I got was from friends and family members in the US, I never heard a negative comment in Pakistan and my husband had nothing disrespectful said to him at his interview. They merely asked if my children were comfortable with our relationship and age difference.

I'm sure there is fraud going on in every country for visas, however I truly believe that there is a large percentage of couples that truly love each other going through the process as well...and with the advent of the internet, international relationships have blossomed because of the access to social networking, chats and skype!

I'm sure the consulate is trying to protect the government and not me personally. If I get taken for a ride and end up in a dead-end relationship with someone they then become a potential government dependent. This isn't a negative belief...I completely understand the and support the process. I'm a patriot to the core, so I have no issues with the background checks, and time spent making sure we don't allow potential threats into our country. But just because I understand the delay doesn't mean it's any easier to be parted from my husband.

All the best!

Bella

It's not that you're being judged harshly by the consulate. It's your young husband who is being judged harshly. The reality is that the consulate believes (rightly or wrongly) that young men from that part of the world marrying older American women for a visa is a very common pattern of visa fraud. At heart, they are trying to protect you. (The lack of respect for you implied in their assumption that you are being conned, and are incapable of choosing your own best interests, is incidental.)

Welcome to the club MPQ!

I'm so happy for you~~

I was worried about my husband's family and how they would feel about me also, but they have been so wonderful and welcomed me with open arms. Heck, they treat me better than my own family. LOL

I love a happy fairy-tale. :luv:

Count me in, then, as a member of the "mature" wives club :) I am 40, getting married to my 24-year-old man in India. We also have not known each other long and plan to marry before the year is over. I will go to India for our marriage and go about things that way. Culturally, Guru is worried about what his Mom and family will have to say about our age difference but between he and I, there is no age difference at all. We are just in love and that's all that matters.

No, they get different ones. It's important to realize that Consular officers are doing their job correctly and responsibly when they consider the local culture in their evaluation of whether a relationship is bona fide. It's an entirely different matter from the personal opinions of friends family and the public.

Thanks Pushbrk

We had absolutely no issues at all with the embassy...I was more curious about the personal experiences that people have encountered with the age difference. i.e. how American's are treating other American's with younger spouses...there seems to be a fascination in the US right now with "Cougars" but in everyday life the reaction is often negative from friends and family members. Like we're some sort of sickos taking advantage of young men...

Wow I break for lunch and I miss all the fun stuff! LOL

Edward, no insult taken.....and I'm only 19 years older than my husband. There is another women on VJ who is 25 years older than her husband and being in marketing I had to go for the shock factor to make sure the thread was read. And man, I ALWAYS lose at the lottery, so no thanks, not taking any chances there. LOL

No, no RFE's only a silly I-864 blip on our radar.

My husband and I are very lucky to have proceeded as we have so far...but it's still hard. One day is hard without someone you love, let alone six month....or 3 years like some of the couples on here.

Carolyn, we have SO much in common it's unreal! Thank you for validating that I'm not the only one going through some wonkiness on the US side of life. My husband and I didn't know each other for years either before we got married and some would consider it a short courtship.

John & Camie....you're too sweet to come to my rescue like that! Thx.

Keep the stories coming about the age differences....all countries....I think the "mature" wives club has begun. :luv: :girlwerewolf2xn:

oooh, Carlyn...one more thing...

I got the "he's only a young man why would he fall in love with you" comment also. I found that really insulting because I think I'm a wonderful person, not hard on the eyes and very lovable....so why wouldn't he fall in love with me? I'm certainly not perfect, but I'm not the Countess of Bathory either LOL

I read a sad post earlier from a couple petitioning out of Cairo and have read many stories of women married to younger men on VJ. I thought it would be a interesting to start a thread with our experiences.

Because I'm an "equal opportunity" poster, men who are older than their wives are more than welcome to post their experiences as well.

Has anyone had difficulty in their interviews because of age differences? Have you had unpleasant remarks directed to you by family and friends for falling in love with someone younger than you?

I am 19 years older than my husband, and we don't see the difference. We are on the same emotional, intellectual and spiritual level and absolutely adore each other. We're married for love, not a GC....but I've had several interesting comments directed my way since our marriage about our age difference and they came across as pretty judgmental. Do men married to younger women get the same snide remarks and judgment?

Looking forward to everyone's posts!

Armani Khan, it's been exactly four months for us today and we're stuck in AP as well, I'm soooo worried and depressed because we haven't heard anything. I call the Department of State every week to hear the same thing...
"case is still open and pending review" nothing more and nothing less.

Hopefully we'll have a visa in hand soon and can actually be a "real" married couple.

Good luck with your process and let's stay in touch.

DOS: Washington DC office contact information for cases that have been transferred to consulate

202-663-1225

for the spouse CR-1 information I had to dial, 1,4,2,3,3,0

Hopes this helps anyone looking for additional information on their case and not receiving any information from direct inquiries. In our case I was told....case is open. That's it. They reflected my inquiry a couple of weeks ago but nothing else. :-(

AAA: WOW, ok now I'm scared! So even if my husband get's notice his visa is ready it could be months more before it's actually in hand? And then there are those on here that have it in hand in 24 hours? I wonder why the discrepancy in timing?

Fasi...Inshallah, you'll have your wife and baby with you soon. This process is making so many of us depressed...I know I've had days where I've gone to work but really not functioned well because of stress/depression. I feel your pain brother!!

I think we all feel pain right now.

Hi i have been a silent member of this forum but have posted for the first time.............It has been pretty helpful. Does anyone know how long it takes to get your passport back from the embassy. I submitted mine on jan. 22nd and its been 5 weeks now n no response form embassy they just keep on saying its uner final review it will take another week or so and when the week passes no reply. does anyone know?

Sorry AAA9, I wish I could give you some news. We're in the same boat, my husband's approval was February 4th and they kept his passport telling him 2-6 weeks before delivery of Visa....we're now half-way through that time frame with no news. At least you've been given some information, I can't get through to the embassy and they are not responding to e-mail inquiries. (well I got a "standard form" response with absolutely no viable information so I don't count that response.)

good luck and I hope you have your Visa soon.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI 751 RFE

If you want to be successful in life, you'll have to do your homework, always. That's something I learned early in life and something I still try to instill in our college-attending daughter. More often then not she starts her homework assignment the night before it's due and then attempts to write a 15 page paper. I'm telling her: "honey, find out what you need to do, then find out how much time you have, and then determine how you get there by wasting the least amount of valuable time you need to sleep." I still keep trying . . .

In your case you need to know that the ROC has 3 pillars which derive from the 2 essential components of intermingling: finances and housing.

Once you know that the three pillars are taxes, banking and cohabitation, you'll also be able to deduct from it that in a perfect world only 3 documents are needed to cover them all:

1) jointly filed tax returns,
2) joint bank account
3) joint mortgage or lease/rent.

Of course, our world is not always a perfect one. Far from it. For example, my wife and I never had a joint bank account. Our house I got many years before we even met for the first time. We do not have joint utility bills either. Yet I submitted what is most likely one of the smallest packages for my I-751 because I figured out how to substitute for it.

In regard to the bank account, I went to my bank manager who issued me a formal letter stating: To whom it may concern, Bob and his wife have the following bank accounts:
Account 1, #12345, balance $5,678.
Account 2, #23456, balance $10,123
Account 3, #34567, balance $6,789

Both Bob and Mrs. Bob have full and unrestricted access to any of those accounts.
Easy, huh?

The living together issue I covered in my . . . you guessed it . . . cover letter en passe, meaning I stated what I needed to state without making it a big issue. I wrote: "We still live in our house in Ventura. Our daughter now attends college in Santa Barbara . . . "
Done. No questions about mortgage or lease, no wondering of the I.O. why there are no documents pertaining to housing. I made up for it by sending copies of credit cards, auto insurance, and other stuff in both names that all went to our home address.

Nobody knows your situation as good as you do. Unfortunately, once you got the RFE, you are in a defensive position. You got the RFE because you left the housing pillar uncovered. Now you'll need to focus on documenting how to make up for this. It shouldn't be that hard to do.

On a slightly cheerful note, even substantial packages sometimes trigger an RFE. All it takes is one I.O. who had a bad day, or didn't feel cheerful. So it's not the end of the world, it's just an annoying delay. Then again, your 'resident since' date won't change, nor will your eligibility date to naturalize. If you think about it, it really means nothing when exactly your I-751 is going to be approved. And approved it will be as it is nearly impossible not to get approved for a couple that's married and lives together.

Thanks for your reply. I explained to them why there wasnt any deed/lease but that we did live at the same residence. We are not going to sweat it and send in what we have. Then all we can do is pray that everything is okay. We so appreciate your response. It takes encouraging words from others that have been through this to help calm the nerves. Thanks again.

You could make a statement of such, and add that as an attachment to your RFE. Their instructions state that if you believe your case is unique, you should explain that as an attachment, not in the cover letter itself.

I don't see any residence documents like a deed, showing co-ownership of your property or a lease agreement with both of your names on the lease...?

I have owned my home since 1997. Upon our marriage we talked to the home loan officer of the bank where I got my home loan and he said that the law in Kentucky states that once you are married your spouse becomes half owner automatically and it isn't necessary to put spouse's name on the deed so we didn't. In order to do so we have to go through a lawyer and it is a lot of red tape to do so and we dont have the time to do that.

What's the wording on the RFE? Sometimes they are specific on what they would like to receive and sometimes they are general. I would say that affidavits would be good at this point. They don't cost a thing and since you are already receiving an RFE, send in as many things as possible to guarantee an immediate approval.

Thanks for your reply. I was getting ready to mail the evidence back, but I will get some friends and family to write some affidavits. Again thank you so much for your reply.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI 751 RFE

First of all, don't stress. RFEs happen all the time.

Second, what specifically are they asking for in the RFE?
.

Third, putting the A# on all sheets of evidence is helpful, in case the sheets get seperated somehow.

I will do that for sure.
They weren't specific on what to send. Just general suggestions such as birth certificates of children which we dont have. Lease/mortgage with both our names on it, will/power of attorney. Which we dont have, but I explained in the cover letter why certain things have not been sent.

Thank you so much for your reply. I guess I just need to calm down and realize that it will be okay.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI 751 RFE
My husband received a RFE form for his I 751 form. When we applied to remove his conditions we included the following evidence voided check from our joint bank account, my life insurance policy showing that my husband is the beneficiary, copies of tax returns for 07, 08, 09, envelopes from people that is addressed to both of us, my husband's substitute paycheck envelopes addressed to him, bills in both our names, and various pictures of us with family members and us as a couple throughout our marriage.

For the RFE we are sending the following:Papers from original I751 submission, copies of our debit cards for the joint bank account, various months of joint bank account statements for 08,09, and 10, copies of our IRS W2 forms, both our life insurance policies showing that each of us are beneficiaries, cancer policies for both of us, copies of our health insurance cards, health insurance statements showing that my husband has used his health insurance card, copies of bills in my husband's name showing that he lives at the same residence as myself, copies of the credit card bill from Scotland that my husband had and we are paying on.

Do you feel that we need to send affidavits also or is this enough evidence? Any suggestions/opinions would be greatly appreciated since I am truly stressing over this in fear that he won't get his Green Card. Also should I put his A# on each page of evidence?
