Congrats on your interview date!!

I'm surprised it's that far out. Oh well. So by the time they get around to ours, it will most likely be a late November/early December interview. Hope they don't shut down in December!

Thanks!

Yeah I was a little surprised at the date as well, I figured from others interview dates, mine would probably be mid-end of October. But, oh well, not going to complain, at least the end is near!

Congrats on your interview date!!!

But it makes me wonder if I'll be able to be there for Christmas though.... it was all I wanted, but if yours is on the 7th, mine could be a lot later than that. <_<

Hopefully not, hopefully you are here by X-mas!

I wonder if the fact that the CSC has been pumping out approvals lately, has bogged down the Embassy's a little with an overload of interviews.

For me, this interview date actually ended up working a little better, as I have been planning the whole time to go out there for the interview, but now that I'm not, the couple extra weeks will give me time to get everything over to her that she'll need, and lets me go over everything with a find tooth comb.

There's a direct flight from Sao Paulo to Chicago, from United Airlines. I used it once when visiting.

Ooo lord it's 1,800 just for that, tack on another 125 from Rio to SP, and with taxes thats 2,000.. yikes!!!

Can you say ROAD TRIP to Atlanta???

Thanks for the information though

Well, it looks like I may have found a solution... unfortunetly it doesn't include me going out for the interview... but I think it will work out.

I found a flight from Rio direct to Atlanta (7.5 hour flight.. WoW!) I will end up driving out to Atlanta (about 12 hour drive) to be there when she arrives. We'll catch a Hotel for the night in Atlanta, and drive back the next morning (nice Sunday drive, and she'll get to see a bit of the good ol US).

I don't mind driving, I do it all the time as part of my job... so no biggie there, and it will make me feel a lot better not having to worry about her missing a connecting flight. Will also be nice to be at the airport in case she has problems with Customs, they can just call my cell and I'll be right there.

So, I think we'll be alright... we just have to confirm that the Doctor can do the Exam and give us the results later the same day before I book the ticket.

Congrats on getting your interview date! It seems like the lines are really long lately for the consulate, huh?

If they have no delays in giving the visa back (always takes 2 days, unless something wrong happens) you should be fine to fly home on Friday. Try to get dates that can be changed though.

Thanks  Accourding to my fiance, there is a Holiday on the 2nd... but that shouldn't come into play considering she won't be in Rio until the 4th anyway.

Thanks everyone... I guess this is when the most stress comes into play huh?

She may have to go alone, because I'm having a hard time putting flights together, and don't really want to pay 1,500 a ticket, which for us to return together, is looking more and more like what I would almost have to pay. We can so use that money better when she is here, like buying her clothes for winter etc.

My biggest concern really was her POE, and if she happened to miss her flight from Miami/Atlanta to Chicago. She speaks almost no English, so I would hate for her to be put in an awful situation like that. But, I found a one way flight from Rio to Sao Paulo, straight to Chicago, so I think this might work. That way I can just drive down to the airport and wait for her at baggage claim after she goes through custom, and she can call me on my cell, or have the Custom Officer call me if there is any problem, considering I'll actually be there.

I really want to go... but need to be wise as I know there will be a lot of expenses right when she gets here.

Someone mentioned that the Dr. across the street from the Consulate does the Medical, and gives the results the same day... can anyone confirm this for sure?

Sorry I'm ramblin' but I guess I'm just excited, and more nervous now than I have been this entire process. :D

Well, we finally received a date today, a little later than I would have liked, but I'm not going to complain. Interview date is scheduled for Nov 7th.

Quick question, the 7th is on a Tuesday, do you folks think it would be safe to book flights for both of us back to the US Friday at night (flight would leave Rio around 11:00pm)?

I really want to go out there for the interview, but would hate to have to have her fly back home, then fly here. I'm limited on days off from work as well, so I can't really miss more than a week.

Medical on Monday, Interview on Tuesday, Fly back Friday night (late)... does this sound feasble?

Thanks!

"i agora o q vc tem a me falar????"

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaBrasilian Cell Phones

Brasil hasn't been easy on me at all this year

It has nothing to do with Brazil, maybe she doesn't have a good cell phone service. Which one does she use? Tim? Oi? Claro? Vivo? Maybe her cell phone is always turned off. Maybe where she is is not a good place to talk on cell phones. There's a lot of reasons it can be, we have very good cell phone services here, I know because I've worked with that.

I wouldn't have a clue about what company she uses. I'm guessing it's her phone/location though, sometimes I can get through no problem, and other times it's just impossible.

I don't need to call her cell often, but it's always hit or miss when I do  I usually have a good laugh, because she got it in case I needed to get a hold of her when she wasn't home... but that hasn't worked out quite like we planned.

Are you using a phone card? Is it the cheapest per minute rate you could find? I have found with phone cards that the cheaper phone cards are also the poorest quality connections.

Actually it was with Skype, and with Yahoo Voice... Skype would give me the female message, or the little jingle jangle. Yahoo would have some lady (but I think she was speaking Chinese, not sure why considering I'm calling Brasil  ) then it says in English that all circuits are busy.

All I can say to this is Pedala Robinho!!!

I have the most impossible time trying to call my fiances cell phone. I always get this message with a lady speaking (of course at 100mph, so no clue what she is saying lol).

When I try using a different service to call, it says all lines are busy... huh?

Is there something I don't know about cell phones in Brasil???

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaDS-230 Part 2

Hey all,
I was just getting things organized as I'm about to send my I-134 to my fiance tomorrow, and when I was looking at the list that is given at the Consulate as to what order they want the documents, I don't see the DS-230 Part 2 listed anywhere. I know she sent the DS-230 Part 1 as part of the Packet 3 reply, but what about Part 2?

Or is this actually the Sworn Statement listed in the list?

9- Sworn Statement (fiancees only) (this one comes in the packet 4)

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaHow much do they study your documents?
Regarding Translations. The only things that need to be translated into English are documents you are submitting to the USCIS as part of your original I-129F petition. Anything you are sending that is not in English should be translated.

From an Embassy standpoint, as long as the document is in English, or the langauge of the country the interview is taking place, there is no need to have the documents translated.

So she just has to go to a teller, tell them she's there to pay the K1 Visa fee for the US Consulate, and show them her Passport?

My fiance was looking through her Packet 4 last night, and said she did not see any sort of paper for the bank fee. Isn't there suppose to be a paper in Packet 4, that she gives to the Bank Teller at Citibank so she can pay the Visa Fee?

Anyone have a scan of what this paper looks like?

Dr. Joaquim was R$200 for the appointment, R$120 for the blood test and R$40 for the X-ray.
And he asks for your ginecologist a letter saying you're healthy with a recent pap smear test(for women).

I didn't ask how much it was for the other doctors in Rio 'cus going downtown was a better option for me.

He gets everything done in the same day and you leave with your sealed envelope.

Thanks! So I guess my fiance was probably right, they may have quoted her $430.00 cause I believe they were gonna do the gynecologist stuff there (I'll have to ask my fiance to be certain though).

Hey all, I know it is $100.00US for the appointment per the USCIS guidelines, but can anyone who has used this Dr. for they're Medical tell me how much they charge for all the lab fees etc?

So the amount in total

I posted my medical expenses on this thread Medical in Curitiba, but in Rio there's more than 1 doctor option, so I'm sure it can be cheaper, plus if your fiancée has health care the labs, x-ray, blood test she can have for free.
Mine was as expensive as possible, oh add more R$ 80.00 I spent on another shot she asked to take a month later and R$ 10.00 for the picture they ask for the doctor's appointment :P
So, as I was saying was as expensive as possible because here in South Brazil the Consulate only have one doctor for you to choose, and you know monopoly, she could charge no more than 100 and she charged exactly 100 US$, plus I had no health care so I had to pay everything else.
But I've heard in Rio things are easier and cheaper. Soon enough someone will post here their experience financially with Dr. Joaquim.
Good luck!

Thanks! I appreciate the information  My fiance doesn't have Medical Insurance, so no question I'll have to pay. I thought I saw somewhere it was about R$430.00 for everything, but I don't remember where I saw that.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaBrazilians I need HEELLLPPP!!!!

USCIS accepts translations "certified" by someone who states to be fluent in both languages.

Including me? The petitioner?

People, taking my BC for a translator down here will be such a pain in the ####### because I will have to pay for it and make the person sign that document that is on USCIS website.

On the website it doesn't say if you need to be registred, or have some kind of document, to prove you are a translator.

It just says "I blah blah blah am fluent in english blah blah blah sign here".

So, I think that is what they want.

Alex, did you ask this to an USCIS person?

If so, what did they say?

If not, why are you asking people here first?

Just for clarification, the Translator doesn't need to sign any paper on the USCIS website... most of them have a rubber stamp, and just stamp at the top or bottom of the translated document.

Also, take this for what its worth, but when I called the USCIS about Translating documents back when I was preparing my I-129F Package, they told me (over the phone) that every document translated needed to be stamped, and or signed by the person translating it.

Hey Nessa, when did they tell you to return to pick up your passport/visa?

I think they tell everyone to go pick up the passport 2 days later. My interview was on Tuesday and I went back there on Thursday. You can try and ask to get it the next day. Maybe you'll get lucky.

Thanks Mew, just making sure they are still on the 2 day thing. I know not long ago, they used to give the Visa later that same day... so just checking :D
