Congrats!!! It seems like late Bio had no impact on your approval, and that is a good thing. Lets see how the rest of the Jan applicants shake out.

 

100%. Having not received my NOA-1 & Bio letters was a concern - things didn't look good at at the time. USCIS might be trying to make up for what they put me through!

Having filed late in January, your NOA-1 date could be either late Jan or early Feb. Did you file at VSC or CSC? VSC seems to be moving faster lately. Either way, keep checking the processing times and this topic might help you get an idea of current progress for recent filers: http://www.visajourn...ch-month/page-8

Woohooooo!!

 

I just received a text from USCIS saying that my status has been updated. I signed-in to my account and it says: "On May 30, 2013, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283."

 

We're so excited!

 

Is May 30 the "Approved" date to update the list?

Hi, everyone!

I want to say you that until now did not received my appointment bio. I called many times to USCIS, the last IO who attend my call said me that I don't need worry about that, the most important document for now is the extention letter. When they have an appointment bio for me they are going to send it by mail.

Hi Nana, I had issues in not receiving my NOA and Bio letters, which turned out to be lost in the mail!

I would call USCIS again and let them recheck if the Bio letter was sent. I called several times and the agents kept saying that I haven't been sent anything. I kept calling until one of the agents said that I missed my Bio appointment that was scheduled 1 month ago! I explained the whole story and they sent me another Bio letter, which I received within 3 days!

I know you might be placed on hold for 30-40min but I think it's worth another call and insist on the agent to check if the Bio letter was sent.

That's a bummer! Sorry for your situation... :(
So, can you see your case online now? If so, you can see the date they received your package? ("On xx/xx, we received your... blah blah blah...) That's the real your NOA date. I saw you also added your name on Feb filers thread. If your NOA date is on January, I think you need to stick to Jan filers thread...?

I have been trying the no. that an agent gave me over the phone, but it never worked when I checked my case status. Now that you mentioned it I checked the Application No. on my Biometrics notice and it's different - I checked online and now it says 01/22 as my NOA date :)

Thanks for drawing my attention to recheck that... I think I should delete my name form the Feb filers now :)

Update from THEBIGHASH:
After having not received the NOA-1 and Biometrics letters, I managed to get an I-551 stamp on 02/19 after scheduling an InfoSys appointment. The agent told me to wait for the Biometrics notice, but I waited and nothing came through. I called USCIS twice and on the second call the agent said the notice was mailed to me on 01/30 to go for biometrics on 02/19, but I explained that I haven't received such notice. She was also surprised that I was not told by the agent who stamped my I-551! Anyway, they resent me a biometrics notice on 03/19 and I'm scheduled for 04/05. Finally..........

Update: I called USCIS a few times and finally managed to reach an agent. They received my package on 01/22 (although the mail was delivered on 01/19), and to date they have not sent the NOA. I explained that my GC will expire within a few days and she responded that this is why we get a 90 day window to file.. I thought filing 30 days before expiry would be more than enough based on processing times from this site :wacko:

I can't complain, I just hope they mail my NOA this week. Whatever check they are doing is taking far too long in my opinion.

Update: Still no NOA-1 to date, but I saw an agent earlier this morning through InfoSys and I explained my situation. She stamped an I-551 on my passport without hesitation :thumbs: and it's valid for 1 year from today (my GC expired yesterday).

I'm not sure how I should update my NOA-1 date in the table :wacko:

Now waiting for the biometrics letter..........

I have a feeling something has gone wrong with my NOA1! What could it be? It just doesn't make sense and when I called USCIS they said it might take up to 30 days... Well if I have to wait 30 days my GC would've expired, so would my driver's license etc...

Thoughts?

The NOA-1 is the extension letter, and I believe that if the check was cashed it's only a matter of time before they send the NOA, if they haven't already. I don't think there's any reason to be nervous. As far as I understand, if there's an issue with your application it would come in the form of an RFE. If you don't hear from them in 3-4 days you could try calling them maybe? Someone please correct me if I'm mistaken :)

Thanks for the clarification.. I'm hoping to receive my NOA-1 this week. Even for cases with RFE I thought they would also send an NOA? Right?

  • I mailed my I-751 package on Jan 15th
  • It was delivered to the VSC on Jan 19th
  • The check was cashed on Jan 24th.

I'm waiting for the 1-year extension letter but have not heard from USCIS to date. My GC will expire in exactly 2 weeks so we're starting to get anxious.

Is the NOA letter the same as the 1-year extension letter?
Is there a way to follow up in case I don't receive it in 3-4 days?

Thanks. I'm assuming the same thing. I was there at POE and they had to do some of the prints several times before the computer accepted them. Just hoping it's not a bad sign, or any problem/mistake that will cause delays.

Hi msheesha, I just received this notice to capture biometrics approx 1 month after entering the US with CR-1. Sad news is that I left the US to finish off some personal matters, and the appointment is next week which is stressing me out.

Could you please let me know why this is required and how did it go with you?

I'd appreciate your help since this is not common and I cannot find useful info about it.

No, you do not have to wait. You were told that in the first response in this thread. You will need a reliable address for the green card to be received by mail in the USA though. It could be a friend or family member.

Just to update this thread, I tried to obtain an extension by writing to the US Embassy but they responded stating that Visa Extension or Renewal is not possible, and the immigrant shall enter the United States prior to expiry of the CR-1 Visa.

Now my question is, Once I enter the US prior to CR-1 expiry, do I really have to wait to obtain the Green Card by mail before leaving the country again, or is this not relevant? MY CR-1 says: "Upon endorsement serves as a temporary I-551 evidencing permanent residence for 1 year". So I'm assuming I can leave the US prior to receiving my GC since the endorsed CR-1 is equivalent having a GC. Is this the same as I-551 stamp on the passport?

If an immigrant visa has already been issued and circumstances force the alien to remain abroad longer, the applicant should contact the U.S. consulate and request an extension of the immigrant visa's validity. If the validity of an immigrant visa expires, a new one may be issued upon payment of the statutory application and issuance fees. Also, provide adequate reason why the travel is not possible before the visa expiry date.

Don't you think it's safer to request an extension prior to expiry rather than waiting for the visa to expire and going there asking for a new one?

Another thing to consider -

if you do transit to USA prior to visa expiration date -

then an I-551 stamp will be placed in the passport, can be used as a temp green card up to 1 year from POE date.

ETA: No need to wait on greencard to arrive in postal mail in USA, can turn around and leave, same day ya get the stamp in passport at the POE.

Thanks for your help, are you saying I can plan a trip to let's say Canada or somewhere and just go through the US for transit, and they'll give me an I-551 stamp valid for 1 year? Then in the meantime they'll also mail the green card to my US address?

This is a question for your consulate. They may be able to extend it, or they may say since the intention of granting the visa is for travel to the US - you should travel to the US.

If they do not extend it, take Darnell's (as always) excellent advice

Hi all,

I've just received my CR-1 Visa (DCF in UAE) and reported my experience here: http://www.visajourn...-abu-dhabi-uae/

I have a question regarding the possibility of renewing the CR-1 or getting an extension since our planned travel date is July 2011 whereas the CR-1 is valid till Feb 2011. Is their a formal way of doing this or should I just write to the Embassy explaining our situation and reasons for this change in plan?

I tried to search this subject but didn't get any definite answer. I'd really appreciate your input :)

P.S. I know we can go in Feb and wait for the Green Card and then come back here to finish off and move to the US in July.. But this might not work out due to work commitments.

If you were to ask our attorney she would say it was her, but it didn't seem like there was any traction being made until I had my senators office file an inquiry. Just so happened that a day after they responded, her visa was issued. Coincidence, right?????

Not quite sure what you mean by all, but I am sure that you are aware of what the 601 waiver is. The 601-A allows you to process here in the US without having to leave first before filing. Let's just say that she never immigrated here the way she should have originally, and we have been on a long road to clear up her status. We have been married for a while now, but until the new waiver came in place, there was no way for us to ensure that we could stay here. This way if she was to be denied the waiver she wouldn't have to leave the US. Things would be much different if it was just the two of us, but become so much more complicated when you have a child such as we do.

Not like any of it matters now now that the visa has been issued. Now it's just a matter of keeping tabs on getting it in her hands so she can make it back here in time for the holidays. I called the NVC yesterday, because her passport status was listed as "unable to track", and wanted to follow up and see what was going on. The woman on the phone said that it was on its way to the CITIC. Bank, but I find it hard to believe that it would be to her so quickly after all I have read here. She said 3-5 days before my wife would get it. Let's just say we are being cautiously optimistic. I'll keep you all updated.

All of your assumptions are correct.  It is the liaison officer that I spoke to at the Senator's office, so there is some hope there.  Do you know if this is something that can be quickly adjusted?  From what it sounds like from what I have read around, is that once you enter Administrative Processing it is like a bureaucratic black hole.

My wife had her interview on November 18th, and at the end of the interview she was told that she needed to have her Chinese passport changed so that it ends with my last name.  She never changed her name here in the States when we were married, and according to our lawyer along with several other lawyers that we have talked to, she is in no way obligated to change her name.  She has since sent her passport back to the Consulate, along with a letter from our attorney stating that what they are asking for is not valid under the law.  She has now been placed in administrative processing, and I'm trying to figure out how long this is going to take.  She left here pre-approved through the national visa center, and we were told that the interview was more of a formality (boy were we wrong).  Our lawyer has since really become no help at all, and trying to get answers elsewhere is like pulling teeth.  I have been emailing the consulate trying to get an answer, and seem to be getting just a form letter response.  It also says that multiple emails about the same issue will delay the processing.  How true is that?  In addition, I have reached out to my senator who has agreed to look into the matter as well.  I'm really aggravated about this whole thing at this point, but don't want to make matters worse.  Does anyone have any answers????

So mine is different than what everyone else is describing here.  My wife's number is already 9 digits long not including the A.  When I type in the number A123456789 it says this:  

 

  • A-Number must start with letter ''A'' and the number ''0'' followed by eight (8) digits, example: A012345678

I'm helping Maria with the DS-230, DS-156, and DS-156K.

There're questions we have about some of the entries and the VJ examples do not answer them.

For example, do they really want the info of an ex on DS-156?
She's going to quit work because she's got a lot of family and personal stuff to take care of before leaving. What do you put for employment?
What do Russian ladies put for Middle Name as in Passport? I'm looking at it and see just the first name in English and the typical father's last name variation in the Cyrillic Middle Name.

The DS-156 and DS-156K per the Moscow web site are to be filled out in Russian.
Only the DS-156 is in Cyrillic Russian.
What does the US Embassy REALLY want? Just the 156 that's already in Cyrillic filled out in Russian? Or do they also want the 156K also written in the native script/print?

The DS-230 asks for Spouse and doesn't like the 156 request spouse if divorced.
Since it appears each form asks for the same info and one clarifies it to include something that's not true [if you're not married you don't have a spouse so giving an ex isn't a spouse], what does DS-230 really want??

I wish I could help you here, but my fiancee got these forms in her "packet" from the Embassy and filled them all out by herself. I don't even know if they were in English or Russian! Apparently she didn't have any problems because she didn't ask for my help, and she was approved at her interview. :D

How often does the US Embassy in Moscow update their interview schedule? How long does it take after your K-1 petition leaves NVC to get an interview date? The Embassy in Moscow updates their interview schedule sporadically. Supposedly they do it once a week on Mondays, but I've actually seen them update it 2 or 3 times in one week, and also I've seen them go up to 2 weeks or more without updating it!

It does not take long after your petition leaves the NVC for you to get an interview date. Mine only took about two weeks. I did not get any letter from the NVC. I did call them and found out on the telephone when they received my petition and when they sent it on to Moscow.

The Embassy will not send anything to you. They will mail packet 3/4 to your fiancee quite promptly. Mine received her packet within about a week of the Embassy receiving our paperwork.

I've found that the Embassy is fairly reliable and prompt about responding to e-mail. If you e-mail them with a question they generally respond within a day or two.

I am curious how long it takes (generally) for a K1 petition to clear the NVC and make it to the Moscow consulate. How long did you guys wait for? Also, do they notify you when they recieve and send it?


It took 9 days from our NOA2 date at CSC until NVC acknowledged receiving our file. NVC kept it for about 11 days, and then they sent it on to Moscow. Moscow received it about a week later, and then about a week after that we knew our interview date and my fiancee had her packet in the mail.

It goes very quick - altogether it was less then 30 days after our NOA2 date that the Moscow consulate had our file and the interview was scheduled.

Actually Yahoo will let you search for airfares for flights originating outside of the United States! This is what I used when I bought Katya's ticket a couple weeks ago. I searched for over an hour, checking all the possibilities for my date range for both round trip and one-way tickets from SVO to ATL on all airlines. I ended up buying a one-way ticket on Air France for July 12 for $963! Not bad at all considering July seems to be the peak month for traveling to and from Russia. Apparently e-tickets weren't an option for this flight, but they delivered the paper tickets directly to Katya in Russia about a week after I purchased them.

Personally I don't like using any travel agents because their prices are always higher then buying the ticket directly yourself online!
