PhilippinesTop 10 Reasons Why There Couldn’t Be a Filipino-American US President

Here are more reasons why ...

1. Can't find decent chicken adobo in D.C. :star:
2. Too much confusion on what D.C. means. District of Columbia or Daly City? :jest:
3. The White House cooks don't prepare rice for breakfast and lunch. :D
4. No golf with Boehner and Biden, play pusoy and mahjong instead.
5. Can't call the First Lady mommy in front of dignitaries.

Well the main chef in the white house is Filipino, so can get good adobo and rice could be served for lunch and breakfast. Also the current president does eat spam musubi and zip min, but I am not so sure if he eats Filipino food. I think he does coz he was born in Hawaii.

PhilippinesDocumentary on Pinay teachers immigrating to America
I watched it and it was very good. The culture shock of being from the Philippines to going to the ghetto of Baltimore most have been huge. The one teacher reminded me of some teachers I had in Hawaii. The best story was about the young teacher whose family thought she was rich and spent all her money and kept asking for more. I am glad my wife had an easier time adjusting here.

PhilippinesHomesick (for a male immigrant)

He is Tagalog from quezon province so no family in US that he knows of :(

I see then, yeah not too many non-Ilocanos in Hawaii. I assumed that he was Ilocano too. Oh well he will learn Ilocano real fast. My wife's best friends are Tagalog and they are married to local born Ilocanos, so he should be fine.

PhilippinesHomesick (for a male immigrant)

Haha... Thanks guys... I know HAWAII environment is similar to PI PRovinces but just him not having his family around will be a different experiece. I'll try find a way to get his family a laptop and Internet at their home so they can SKYPE :)

Wow an Ilocano with no family in Hawaii, besides your family, I guess it can happen. Yeah I guess we will try the skype thing with my wife and her family in Laoag. I bet he meets some long lost distant relatives and old friends in Hawaii.

PhilippinesGot Rice?
We buy the local brand Hinode rice here in Hawaii. I assume they import the rice from somewhere else though. Also the wife and I prefer the hapa rice, which is half white and brown rice, or we call it the ABS-CBN rice  .
Psoas10MalePhilippines2011-10-19 13:22:00
PhilippinesAmerasians
Well no surprise to me that Angelica is Hapa, she looks like half white to me. But still the plight of Amerasians is still sad. Being Hapa myself, I feel for them, coz it is hard to be mixed, even growing up in Hawaii. It is strange that in PI, that the half white kids would be teased, coz ABS-CBN is practically the Half puti network.

PhilippinesFilipinos in Austin, TX
That is good, your welcome. I forget how hard it must be for you guys in the Mainland sometimes, esp in meeting other Filipinos.

PhilippinesFilipinos in Austin, TX
I don't live in Austin, but did you try the Catholic churches? That would be the best bet, maybe google Fil-Am Associations in the Austin, San Antonio, or hill country area. Also my wife met many of her friends at work and on the bus, but there is plenty Filipinos here.

PhilippinesLove Doesn't Conquer All
I grew up all my life in the Filipino/Asian culture, and we still had our cultural differences. The problem for me, is that her culture and mine is similliar. So I would expect her to know all the little differences. Then we would fight, but now we are good. In fact I think she has it easier here, than someone from the Mainland.

Philippinesugali ng mga pinoy at pinay
Half the place where I live is Filipino. Then 85% of them are Ilocano like my wife. So if you find bad or rotten people, just make new friends. Also your friends can also be not Filipino too.

PhilippinesPhilippine Surprises
Wow fish here has the head on, esp when caught fresh from the ocean. Also we get the shrimp with the head too. The one thing here is that no one mistakes me for being Filipino here, but in PI I get spoken to in Tagalog all the time.

PhilippinesCathay Pacific Airlines SUCKS!
Oh well, I guess the customer service is not based in PI. We use Hawaiian Air, it is nice coz, we can check in Lihue Kauai, then bypass the mess to check in Honolulu. Then no problem for customer service coz it is based in PI  .

Philippinesshe is coming!!
That is nice, I remember 4 years ago the excitement you are feeling now. Well it is time to buy her some winter clothes and spend alot more on your heating bill  . Tell her to make some sinigang to warm you guys up. Nothing like a good warm soup, when it is cold outside.

Yeah it not that cold, but for a Filipina it sure is. Hank_Amy, do you live in Tuscon. My Dad's older brother lives there.

PhilippinesIt is starting to get cold here
Wow when we left for PI it was warm and humid. Of course it was worse in PI. No wonder my wife does not want to live in PI anymore. Well we get back home and it is cold now. My wife is wearing socks in the house, and even I have to turn on the heater in the car. I guess it could be worse. On a good note the trip went well, my wife and mom went crazy shopping in Manila, my parents met my in-laws in Laoag City, and we went to see the rice terraces in Banue.

Philippinesadjusting
We just came back from PI and it was still hot there, in late Nov. I think the CFO, should make all any Filipino migrating to cold places, go to Manila Ocean Park. Then go in the cold room, then see if they still want to leave PI. Other than that, I remember my first real winter in Oregon, and yea it was cold. You just adjust over time.

PhilippinesI avoided girls from Mindanao
I did too, but where I live most of the Filipinos are from Ilocos Norte, so I met my wife through her family here. I admit Davao region looks a nice place to visit, though.

PhilippinesFilipina Support in Southern California
Well the first wave of Filipinos came to Hawaii and California around the early 1900's. So they have had over hundred years and many generations to make sizable communities in those areas. The only problem is these areas are the most expensive to live.

PhilippinesBelgian documentary
The whole documentary made me mad. Those 2 guys were sobrang panalo talaga. It is sad that these women would rather live in Belgium with those two nimrods, than in PI. It just shows who bad it is some in PI. After watching this I shall strive to treat my wife good at all times. Of course she has it pretty easy here.

You don't even have to go to the Philippines to see that syndrome. I see that all the time here, since half the state is Filipino. However not all Filipinos have this attitude.

PhilippinesEmotional Time For My Fiancee: Dealing With Moving To Another Country
The biggest problem my wife had is that period between getting here and getting here AOS approved. This can be anywhere from 3 to 9 months depending on many factors. So during this time, she can't work, drive and will be stuck at home, unless you don't have to work. So working out this period with her is important. Lucky for me my wife has some family and friends here already. Also the culture shock is not so bad here, in fact Kanos usually have a harder time than Filipino immigrants. The best things to do, is set up TFC or GMA on cable or the computer. Try to spend as much time with her as possible after work. You can set up skype or yahoo messenger or chika. Also try find out about local Filipino groups and where to get Filipino food.

Philippinesnew passport

Did you supply your own photos, or did the Embassy provide a photo service at their outreach?

They take your picture and fingerprints on the computer now, so only need to send photos when reporting the marriage. Well that is how it was done in here in Honolulu. So the thing is you have to appear in person to get the new brown passport.

PhilippinesRecently Philippines Airline Reviews

I flew Philippine Airlines and I liked it but the word in the Philippines that it is not as safe as Cebu Pacific. I have heard this time after time and when I booked her a flight to meet me in Manila, she suggested Cebu Pacific. They seemed fine to me but I think they had a lot of pilots quit in the past and maybe they are low paid. It is run by the government I think.

As far as flying from the US to the Philippines, I flew Delta last time because they were always the cheapest going to Manila, there were plenty of flight options and I had no problems with them.

Ever notice that Delta and all the other carriers which fly from the US to the Philippines always have a prior stop in South Korea, China, or Japan ? I wondered why ???? They never fly direct to the Philippines and then leave from there. I wonder if this is because the Philippines does not have the quality of service and training that these carriers expect to work and refuel the planes.

Air travel is very safe overall but I would pay a little extra and fly an American based Airline if I have the money.

It is because they don't have the permission to fly directly to PI from the US. Only Hawaiian Air and PAL can fly directly from Hawaii to Manila. I think there is a direct flight from the west coast, but they have to stop in Hawaii to refuel sometimes.

PhilippinesAdvice for Last Visit to PH Before Marriage?

Just so you guys know...my fiance is a man. I'm a woman. I know it's pretty rare for a woman to file a K1 petition a Pinoy guy, but that's our situation (check out our picture). Hey, I figure we'll probably get interrogated and doubted less than some of the men bringing Filipinas do. Just a brief correction. Janjan is a he =)

Am I the only woman on her who filed a K1 visa for a Filipino guy?

Well baliktad is the word that comes to mind.  But no problem, and you guys met in person before falling in love. So it should be smooth sailing.

You have to go in person to the consulate that serves your area of the country. They do electronic passports now, which is they take your fingerprints and picture on the computer at the consulate.

Well My fiance's POE was Honolulu, and she lives on Kauai. Not sure if many VJers are in Hawaii, but alot of Filipinos, and I mean alot, so it is just like home for any Filipino here, esp if you are Ilocano.

Philippinesfood likes and hates
There is a lot of fast food in PI. Jollibee, Pizza Hut, Greenwich, McDo, Burger King, Chow King, etc. comes to mind. However my wife likes dried fish cooked. Why does frying dried fish stink so much. I mean like dried fish, but not fried dry fish. But the worse is microwaving dried fish. Some nanas did that at Walmart in the break room. So make sure to teach your wives never to microwave dry fish.

Philippinesfood likes and hates

awww... and I wanted to come live in Hawaii..... guess a Kano would have problems....

of course then again... lots of fruits and veggies plus eating a lot of sesfood.... doubt if it would be absolute paradise for me......but asawa ko would love it.... be like home....

Well the anti-Haole thing is bad, but it depends on how the person is. If the person comes here like the stupid kano stereotype then problems may arise. Yet I have seem whites here just been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Also the job market here is service based and does not pay well versus the cost of living. However we do need doctors, and they make less here. Also we have a lot of American food here too.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2012-05-18 16:58:00
Philippinesfood likes and hates
Well Hawaii is not all that it cracked up to be. It is very expensive to live here. When we visited Texas, we roughly calculated that food in the store was bout half of what we pay here. Gas, rent, and the electric bill on of the highest in the nation. Also it can be hard non-Ilocanos without family here to fit it. It reminds of the clickes you see in high-school. Also there is growing problem of racism towards white people from the mainland here. Home is where the heart is, and I think Filipinos can thrive and live just about anywhere.

Philippinesfood likes and hates
Rice is the staple here. She also can get fresh Filipino Gulay and fruit at the farmers market here. She likes Asian food too, which is dominat food style here. Yet she likes a lot of more typical American food as well. She has yet to complain of not being to get Filipino food here. I am glad that she other food besides Filipino food. The one food she does not like is raw fish, which is very common to eat here in many ways.

Also she said could never live in PI now coz it is too hot all the time. Also reason number 11, marry a Filipina so she has no culture shock to your in-laws.
