PhilippinesExpectations
Actually, it is me who had to adjust more than my wife, when she came here. I have to learn Ilcoano and Tagalog now, since every party we go to, I am the only Puti/Japanese person there. I have to eat more Filipino food, coz it is so easy to get here, I mean I planted bitter melon and mulungay for her, and also papaya as well. She has alot of family here, esp on Oahu. Her Uncle said there is about 300 or so from her brgy in Laoag. The one problem was price of things, esp for the imported Filipino stuff. She also got a job at the bank, coz she can speak Ilocano, and get plenty of sakadas here who don't speak English to well. So all in all she had no real problems adjusting here, even the weather is similar, just less hot.

PhilippinesLooking for Pinay freind live in Washington USA
Where in Washington do you live? I know that the Seattle area has a big Filipino population. I lived in western Oregon so I know what the weather is like, get ready for cold rain for 6 months in the winter. No problem for me now that I am back in Hawaii, get plenty Filipinos here.

PhilippinesWhy are Asian men and Caucasian women couples more common lately?

I was wondering if that still held true.

It is getting worse, since the economy is still bad and housing prices is still getting higher and higher. Then again, it depends on how a white Haole acts in Hawaii. My dad has had no problems with it, but he has been here for over 40 years. Then sometimes even a nice Haole, just may be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Even for me I get some problems being hapa Haole, until I open my mouth and well, they know I am local. Having said that, a Haole may have no problems at all, and may have a real rough time here. To me that kinda sucks, treating people because of their skin color, not on who they are.

PhilippinesWhy are Asian men and Caucasian women couples more common lately?
Well that is what I see here in Hawaii, more Asian/Pacific Islander men with white women. Then you see mostly Asian couples, which can be a mixed race/ethnicity or the same Asian types. It is rare for Asian women to desire white men here, coz white men and white people in general are not too well liked here in Hawaii.

PhilippinesWhy there are pinays out there who feels so conceited about theirselves once they arrived here in the States?
If you speak Tagalog to the old Sakadas here in Hawaii, they might speak back to you in broken English, or Ilocano. Also not every Filipino looking person here can speak Taglog.

PhilippinesWhy there are pinays out there who feels so conceited about theirselves once they arrived here in the States?
My wife can speak whatever she wants. Also where I live it is 50% Ilocano so I hear it everyday and don't complain.

I doubt you will be very safe. I would meet someone online first, or go with a group of balikbayans.

PhilippinesRICE!
Wow you guys lucky to have Chow King, Jolibee and those other places. It is strange that we don't have those places here in Hawaii.

PhilippinesAnother foreigner killed.
I guess maybe it is better to stay home, hehe. Where I live, it is just like PI, esp like Ilocos Norte.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2010-09-24 13:41:00
PhilippinesHonesty, Fidelity and Culture
Well it seems that in certain parts of PI, it is common for the women to look for kano men and try to get to PI. Yet you cannot say that all women from PI are bad and only looking to get a green card. Where I live most Filipinos come through family ties or trying to bring a childhood sweetheart here. The main thing is one can never judge ones motives until meeting them and seeing where they come from. I will say this, when it works out well, then it really does. I am really happy that I have my wife from PI. Her values fit it perfect here, vs me marrying a puti from the mainland.

PhilippinesHelping your filipina adjust to life in the US/not get too homesick
It depends where you live in the US, and if she lived away from her family, which it seems that she did not. The biggest thing, is to keep her from being bored at home, when you work. My wife was lucky that she was in Hawaii, but her biggest problem was waiting to adjust her status.

PhilippinesFine Filipino Food - Free Kindle book
Might be good, esp if you have a kindle, since it is free. But getting the ingredients might be hard, but in Hawaii it is not a problem.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2010-12-05 03:20:00
PhilippinesDoes your wife think the US is too cold ?
Yeah it was 58 deg last night. That is really cold for us. Anyway it should get into the low 70's today. I better put the heater on the mango, and papaya tree, hehe.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2010-01-12 14:15:00
PhilippinesDoes your wife think the US is too cold ?
Yeah my wife thinks is is cold here in Hawaii. We had some upper 60 nights and she was cold. No problem with the food or rice here, she eats all the Filipino food she wants. Most of the stuff grows here anyway.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2010-01-03 21:47:00
PhilippinesI get to eat at Jolibee now.
Oh well San Antonio has Taco Cabana, I would rather eat there than Jolibee. I can get good Filipino food here in Hawaii. And how about them Spurs, they look good again.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2010-12-16 01:25:00
PhilippinesI get to eat at Jolibee now.
Wow it took long enough to get a Jolibee in Hawaii  . Oh well when me and the wife can afford to pay 400 dollars to fly to Oahu, we may try it.

PhilippinesMerry Christmas!!!
May you have a white Christmas too. We won't be so lucky, it will be in the warm and sunny here, with no snow :crying: . Of course we will have fresh chicken papaya and pancit for Xmas.

PhilippinesSleet in Texas
Yeah it has been cold here too, lower 60's at night and only the mid 70's during the day. So my wife has been cold, says it gets cold like this in PI a couple of times a year. Well at least it has been sunny and nor raining, but we will get some rain this weekend. Also damn chickens have been crowing and digging the punso and making the dwende mad.

PhilippinesPossible move to Oregon
Being a OSU Alumnus, I do miss some things about Oregon. The beer is what I miss the most, so much microbrews and other type of beers are available, which is good to drink when it rains. Also going to OSU games and even Duck games is fun too. If one can a good job then Portland, Salem, Corvallis or Eugene are nice places to live. Also look into bend as well. Of course for a Filipina, Hawaii is the best, but Oregon is close second. I say that coz the people are nice and open minded in the cities, and the Asian markers are good.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2011-03-04 23:04:00
PhilippinesIts Broken
Well it is just as bad in Hawaii too  . Good luck on your journey, and where do you live in Hawaii? I am from Kauai, which is half Ilocano now  .

PhilippinesNarita layover and Hawaii as POE
You should also make a trip to Waipahu, after you land in Honolulu, there is a big Filipino market and Jolibee and Max. Also might be your last chance to get fresh Filipino food, coz I don't think malunugay, bitter melon, and mangoes grow in PA. You might not want to leave after your vacation is done.

PhilippinesPhilippine Epassport renewal

It's a long drive from TX to CA, but here's some info from a google search:
http://www.philippin...conserv-ppt.htm

Here are the requirements:
http://www.philippin...V-ePassport.pdf

I think it is crazy you can't renew it via mail. Who has the time or money to go to CA just to get one? Ridiculous, if you ask me!

Yeah would have been nice for my wife to just mail it too. But when we mailed the report of marriage to the Honolulu consulate, they lost it. So me and my wife had to go thte consulate in Honolulu. Damn that cost us 400 dollars for the short puddle jump from Kauai to Honolulu. But the reason you have to go in person is they take your picture and fingerprints digitally now. I look forward to 3 more trips for my wife's citizenship.

PhilippinesIs it really such a bad thing for a filipina to be with a foreign man?
I never really stood out when I was there. Everybody I met was nice to me, and offering me beer and pulutan in the province. Then in Manila I had no one stare at me or us, except for the time on the LRT, when I could not figure out how to use the card. Then people realized I was not from PI. I think the fact the I am a local born mixed Asian from Hawaii, made me blend in in PI more than a 6 foot plus older Kano. I guess things are different in region 1,esp Ilocos Norte. The first question for me was, if knew some relative in Waipahu, Kalihi, or Ewa Beach, since I am from Hawaii, they were always nice to me.

PhilippinesInter-Cultural Marriages and effect on Children
I guess you could call me an inter child, hehe. My mom is Japanese and my dad is Haole or white. I grew up in Hawaii and had no real problems. But Hawaii is the state with most inter marriages in the union so it is excepted here. But in Hawaii the kids adopt the local culture and don't consider themselves white. In the mainland I guess they adopt the local culture that surrounds them, which is more white. But it is not bad to be hapa or half white.

Philippineslet's talk about American Food
Oh gosh I though American food was rice and adobo. Well here rice is the staple food, and you can get pork and peas, adobo, siopao, and tocino at the 7-11 here. But it is different here than the mainland, except maybe the love of steak is the same, with rice of course.

PhilippinesAny Filipina in the Greensboro NC area?
I am glad you found some Filipino groups. I guess there are Filipinos all over the US, with some places having more than other places. Where I live it is about 50% Filipino, and I met my wife to through my Filipino friends here.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2011-05-27 14:00:00
PhilippinesAny Filipina in the Greensboro NC area?
You could try the catholic churches in your area, or swing by the Asian food markets. But if you are from the area you have a better idea where the Asians are. You could google North Carolina Filipino groups as well. I wish I could help more, well maybe move to Hawaii, get plenty Filipinos here. I know my wife has relatives in South Carolina, which is kinda close.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2011-05-26 19:21:00
PhilippinesAny Filipna in Tustin, CA?
Well the Los Angeles area get plenty Filipinos, probably the most in the whole US, next to the bay area. Maybe someone from that area can chime in, coz it is so big. I know Milpitas is where TFC headquarters is, so you can try there.

PhilippinesPhillipina (sp) Nurse inherits £21 million from reclusive copper mining heiress
I read that story, but did not say the nurse was a Filipina. Well good for her for being so caring and nice to that heiress. I guess the nurse can retire, support her family now.

Philippinescultural differences vs. stereotyping
Wow I don't get those questions here. We just blend in me and my wife. Most people here know of the Philippines, and the food esp. Also the least submissive women I know are the Asians and Filipinas here.

PhilippinesYou Might Be Filipino If Thread

Longganisa being a sausage is more in line with spaghetti now when you put hotdogs in it, that's a Filipino twist. Hotdogs are not common to the dish. IMO.....

You might be Filipino if......you have a cartful of corned beef, when its on sale.

Hmm that means everybody here in Hawaii is Filipino  That is why spam and corn beef is not sold during black Friday at Wal-Mart na.

PhilippinesThings your wife/fiancee found strange about the states
My wife found it strange that everything was almost the same as PI here.

1. Rice is served at most restaurants, including Burger King and McDonalds.
2. The weather is about the same
3. Chickens everywhere and crowing roosters
4. Plenty of Filipinos around, and Ilocano is heard all the time.
5. Plenty of of freshly grown Filipino fruits and vegetables.
6. Fish with the head on, shrimp with head on too.
7. Culture is more Asian than western here.
8. People singing Karaoke in their garage from time to time.
9. Finding long lost friends and relatives here already from here province

Those are the main things she found odd about being here. Yet the biggest problem she had was learning the value of the dollar.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2011-06-24 13:59:00
PhilippinesWhat are your 'friends' saying?
My friends said Filipinos make the best wives, well since they all are Filipino. I am glad she is Filipino and not from the Mainland, since the culture shock is alot less.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2011-08-05 15:58:00
PhilippinesWhat are your 'friends' saying?
My friends were all happy for me. In fact that is how I met my wife. Her cousin is married to my friends cousin. The biggest question was when she was coming so we can throw a big party. I guess when most of my friends are Filipino it is different. We don't have a big age difference and I am Asian, so here in Hawaii mixed Asian couples is pretty common. I would imagine in the mainland, mixed couples with big age gaps could be a problem. I would just tell them F-off, well maybe not so rudely.

PhilippinesIs F.M. still the favorite recent President of the Philippines?
Well they could bury him or his wax body, right here in Hawaii, esp Waipahu. Hawaii is more like PI than rest of America, so he would be right at home
Psoas10MalePhilippines2011-09-01 21:49:00

Yeah he is still kinda popular here in Hawaii, since he is Ilocano, and half the population of Hawaii is Ilocano.

PhilippinesTop 10 Reasons Why There Couldn’t Be a Filipino-American US President

Here are more reasons why ...

1. Can't find decent chicken adobo in D.C. :star:
2. Too much confusion on what D.C. means. District of Columbia or Daly City? :jest:
3. The White House cooks don't prepare rice for breakfast and lunch. :D
4. No golf with Boehner and Biden, play pusoy and mahjong instead.
5. Can't call the First Lady mommy in front of dignitaries.

Well the main chef in the white house is Filipino, so can get good adobo and rice could be served for lunch and breakfast. Also the current president does eat spam musubi and zip min, but I am not so sure if he eats Filipino food. I think he does coz he was born in Hawaii.
