PhilippinesCultural Differences? Or, are we really that different?
Well here in Hawaii it is the puti or Haole from the mainland that has to adjust more than the Filipino from PI. Seems weird, but my wife fits in here better than my brothers wife who is from the mainland.

Philippinesnew poverty guidelines 2009
You should have your husband get a co-sponsor. Yeah the CO may ask why he does not meet the current income levels. Does he have a close relative, that makes good money? That person would be a perfect co-sponsor.

Philippinesanybody who's here in Honolulu with k1 visa?
Well my wife was K-1, and we live on Kauai, which is the Island north of you. No problem with culture shock in Hawaii, hehe half the state is Ilocano.

PhilippinesAttitude Change to Live In The philippines
My wife has said she does not want to live in PI again, maybe a long visit though. I guess being in Hawaii helps, coz there is no culture shock here.

PhilippinesIf there was no USA ... or no Philippines ...
Hmm no Philippines, would mean that half of Hawaii's population would not be here. I probably would be still single, coz most of the local Asian girls here are pretty rotten. The good ones are taken already.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2009-06-17 21:30:00
PhilippinesWow, the Philippines!
Well here in Hawaii, most Filipinos come here through parents or other family members. So they are many ways for them to come here to US.

PhilippinesFilipino Fruit
Mango grows all over here and is easy to get. Mangosteen and lazones are harder to get here. I have seen them once or twice at the framer's markets here. On the mainland, one could find them in the Asian or Filipino stores.

PhilippinesIntroduced by a family member ....
I met my wife through her family here. Her cousin's wife is my good friend's cousin. Most of my friends are Filipino. It made things easier, since I did not have to worry about fraud. Also it meant that her parents approved of me before I met her. Also my first trip to meet here I went with her family. Then when she got here, she had family here already. Also she has many relatives on her mothers side in Oahu. She had no problems with getting approved.

PhilippinesLearning and Teaching Tagalog/Filipino/Pilipino
My wife tries to teach me some Tagalog. But she is ilocano, so she speaks that the most with her family and friends here. Also at work I learn and speak some Tagalog and Ilocano, since 90% of my coworkers are Filipino. I mean it is weird that me, who is the USC has to learn a their language, to fit in better here in Hawaii?!. But I guess when almost half the population here is Filipino, that is the norm here.

PhilippinesOFF TOPIC- lumpia wrapper?
It depends where you live in the US. Where I live, I just go to Safeway or the local store and buy it in the frozen section. I figure most Asian markets have them too.

PhilippinesQuestion for Filipina's in USA, regarding the food...
My wife likes the food here, coz Filipino food and asian food is the norm here. Rice is everywhere here. You can get rice and spam for breakfast at McDonalds and BurgerKing. It is hard to get good Mexican food here. No problem for my wife coz she does not like Mexican food.

PhilippinesSome things that remind me of Pinas
My wife does not miss much here in Hawaii. The weather is just as good and less hot than PI. Half the population is Ilocano, she is Ilocano. All the food she craves is here. The only thing she does miss, is the cheap prices. I wonder why Filipinos choose the most expensive places to live here in America?
Psoas10MalePhilippines2009-07-08 01:08:00
PhilippinesMy filipina wife
You could move here, where half the state is Filipino. The weather is about the same as PI, just somewhat less hot and humid. So all the gulay she is used to grows here, and there are alot of wild chickens around here too. My wife thought she landed back in Ilocos Norte when she got here.

PhilippinesWhy Women Should not take Men Shopping
My wife loves at Walmart. Also it is a big help when she can speak to the associates in Ilocano when English does not work. 99% of the workers are Ilocano at our Walmart.

PhilippinesTis the holiday season
Hard to say what foods she may or may not like. Also here in Hawaii, the foods are more Asian and Filipino than Haole. Rice is the staple here, and goat is common too, hehe. So even I don't like Haole food much.

PhilippinesChampoy, Kiamoy and Dikiam
Try a Filipino or Chinese store. In Hawaii no problem to find, and the plum seed is very easy to find. They call it li hing mui, ask Barack coz he grew in in Hawaii.

PhilippinesWhat's for dinner on Thanksgiving Day?
I eat too much pinakbit, hehe. My wife does not like to eat, but I like it. Here in Hawaii it is too easy to get Ilocano food. I guess for me and my wife will goto my mom's family party. It will be a mix of Asian and Haole food.

PhilippinesFoods from Philippines?
Halo halo sounds good. Maybe I should go get Halo halo today. Then I may buy some ube ice cream. It has been a while since I had Filipino food. When you eat it all the time, you get bored of it, unless you are Filipino. Also I wonder why there is no Chow King or Jolibee here? I mean half the state is Filipino.

PhilippinesFoods from Philippines?
Yeah same thing here on Kauai, most Filipino foods can be bought in the stores or at the farmers market. Also alot of the gulay and fruit grows here as well.

PhilippinesPAL $ 938,00
Would be nice if there was PAl or Hawaiian from Maui or Kauai to Manila, I heard there is Pal from Honolulu to Laoag now, with stopover in Manila. Sjr09, you need to quote the fares from Honolulu, hehe seeing you are from Maui.

PhilippinesIf your have TFC, Turn on WoWoWee Right Now
What is the Pinoy Channel? I have heard of TFC and GMA for cable. Actually, I am bored with Wowoee, same taki different araw. I used to like watching back in 2005 or so. I like to watch the teleserves better. It helps me learn Tagalog, but useless here coz everbody here is Ilocano.

PhilippinesNot Multiple Choice
Well if you live in Hawaii, like Dakine and I, you can get all the same stuff as in PI. Heck Ilocano is the most spoken Language here, next to English of course.

PhilippinesTo all Vj Friends Merry Christmas
Wow what a cute hapa baby, maybe she can be the next ABS-CBN star. Well for alot of you mainland Vjers, have a nice and cold white x-mas. For me and the other warm peoples, we will be jealous of the white x-mas, well maybe. I need to go now and put lights on my mango papaya and mulunguy tree. Everybody here have a safe and good x-mas.

QUOTE (Psoas10 @ Dec 22 2009, 08:00 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
whoa I guess half of Hawaii are terrorists then. Oh well stupid Haole, here in Hawaii he would get the beat down, hehe.
Not all Haoles are bad. My dad is Haole, so I am Hapa. You know the ones that come and act dumb. So how is Maui, plenty Filipinos there too, like Kauai.
