PhilippinesHow can I make her transition easier?
It all depends where you live in the US. I live in Hawaii, and well there alot of Filipinos here. Hmm somtimes I feel she is at home more than me, esp where I work. Most of my friends are filipino, so she has fun meeting them too. Also she has some family here as well. But try and see if there are Filipinos around she can chat with, and get TFC for sure.

PhilippinesHow Did You Meet
We met through her cousin that lives here. His wife cousin is my good friend. So my friends cousin was trying to play matchmaker. But all the women were pangit, hehe. Yeah with all my freinds being filipino, it would make sense for me to have a filipino wife-to-be. But I though maybe a Fil-Am or one here already.

PhilippinesFilipinas
Most likely the fact that alot of Filipinos are a mix or Spanish, Chinese and Filipino and other groups of people as well. As we say in Hawaii the more mixed race you are the more chances of having pretty kids, and it is usually true. Saying that I agree to the fact that Filipinas are the best, esp the ones from PI. When I was in PI, my neck was sore, hehe.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2007-11-22 04:55:00
PhilippinesWhat has your adjustment to life in the USA been like?
Well for my wife, it has been no problems with culture shock, or missing PI. My friends and co-workers are mostly filipino, so It is me who has to adjust to their culture, esp the language. I mean she had a job interview, and the lady spoke Ilocano to her, hehe. Where I work, it is 90% Filipino. She buys her gulay from Ilocanos at the farmers market. The only thing, is that the cost of living is super high here, and no public transportation. Also she misses Jolibee, too.

It is so mainit here in PI. I though Hawaii was bad, but this is worse. Lucky we went to Bagiuo for a couple of days. Hmm i don't check VJ and this thread is twice as big as i left it. Wow i better learn Tagalog alot better. In Manila and Bagiuo the workers at the mall and the hotel would speak to me in tagalog? Hmm i am not even filipino. Yet they said i look mestizo. In Laoag, i stick out more and people know i am not filipino. Also it sure look like home here, esp hearing ilocano as well. Good luck to all those with pedning interviews.

Well i have an easier time learning tagalog then ilocano. You figure that hawaii is 85 to 9o percent ilocano here, I should know some by now. I only know the bad words, hehe. My fiance said learning tagalog is fine for now, since it is the basis of the national language. So I speak some bizzaro form of tagalish, which is more english than tagalog. Hmm nice to see some ilocanos here. By the way I am not filipino, just have many friends who are, since where i live is over 50% filipino here.

Jealous na jealous ko. I wish i was at the interview stage too. But congrats to everybody approved and my prayers to those who have some difficulties. Well I get to see my asawa to be in 3 days. I leave for Manila on PAL from Honolulu. Then take the Manila to Laoag on sunday. Hmm i am excited, yet worried coz I am jobless again. Well have to take a chance for my love. I also need to recharge, hehe. Well I have to brush on my Tagalog. I am not that good, and people tend to think I am a Meztizo and speak Tagalog to me. Hmm it is hot here, but I am going to be even more hot soon.

Well the crazy part about me taking that trip, is i have to quit my job. So I am jobless and flying to see my fiance. One thing good is that it is an employee market here. I can get a job the day I come back, I hope. Oh well, love makes you do crazy things sometimes. Guess I will be at netopia looking for jobs, hehe.

Hmm I wanted to be added to the list, but i Dont have the NOA2 yet, grr. But I have not recieved the NOA1 one yet. It will be three weeks since I sent it. I checked USPS and it said that CSC received it April 17. Hmm so I wonder how i can contact them about it.

ako din just started. But every journey starts somewhere. But about how long the does the NOA1 take? I live in Hawaii, so I know it takes longer for mail to get to CA. I have been busy at my new job, but it has been two weeks now. So i am worried a bit.

Well Kauai, Hawaii is about 35% to 40% percent unofficially Filipino. Most of them are Ilocanos, who are family of the sakada generation. But the NCL was in port, and this the foreign flagged one, so alot of the workers are PI nationals. So they were at the Kukui grove shopping center eating lunch. So them plus some mainland filipinos, and the local ones, mad it 90% filipino at the mall. How weird too I ate adobo for lunch at the same mall.

Hmm PW, they sell the whole fish and prawns here, head and all. I dont really like the fish head to much, but it is eaten by alot of people here. But the prefered way to eat fish, is raw. I am curious on how all of the filipinas are doing in the mainland. I fell kinda bad that my fiance will come here and feel like she never left today. In fact today at the mall the food court was 90% Filipino today. Yeah it looked like the mall in Manila.

Wow thanks for the info, Sherif. I find that odd for a question though. Asking Filipino woman if she can communicate with an American is odd to me. Another odd question is, if the CO asks if my fiance, if I know about filipino culture. Or if he asks her on how she handle the culture shock.

Hmm i would quote but i am forum challenged. Well I visted my sweety April 2006, so it has been a year since I seen her. I did not know that 2 or visits where needed to satisfy the requirements till now. Also I was trying to get the TSA job and now I have it, so I will make the income requirements for sure. One problem of having a big filipino community here, alot of them don't know K1 visa's here. Everybody comes as here as family visas. So the new problem is i might not be able to visit her, before her interview. I filed the packett already. I just will pray I have not evidence for the first part. Well nothing I can do now but pray and wait.

Hmm thanks for the information. But I just started my new Job, and won't be able to get off until next year. But no more poverty. I will make 35,000 now. Well one reason i did not visit more, is that she was in school or work and could not get time off. Hmm one problem to another. But I think the money issue was the bigger problem for sure. I hope the consulate looks at our 2 year relationship as proof. Also good luck to everybody who will have their interview and congrats to all those that are approved. I feel so behind the curve, not even sending my packett to USCIS yet.

My wife is from Laoag too. What Brgy are you from. Sorry I dont speak Ilocano, even though I live in Hawaii and most of my friends are FBI. There are many Ilocanos here, esp here on Kauai. I guess half the Island is Filipino and 90% are Ilocano. So my wife has no culture shock here. In fact at times, I have the culture shock here.

PhilippinesWhen Filipino and American Culture's Clash
No real difference here or in PI. Just that me and my friends speak alot more English while the older people speak more Ilocano and Tagalog, and the beer is ice cold here. Cold beer does not exist in PI,hehe. Also everybody drives to the party here, which could be dangerous.

PhilippinesMeeting Girls from the Philippines
I am glad that I knew my future wife's family here in Hawaii first. Also that is the only way I would meet potential mates. See if the family here in Hawaii is "normal" first. Also I notice that alot of Ilocanos come here through family connections instead. Also I did not see alot of young ladies chatting in the cafes in Laoag. I saw mostly college students and gamers.

Hmm Go Spurs! But here where my wife is, she has very little culture shock. She never got too homesick, and was always around a lot of Filipinos. So she never ran away or said she would. I wonder how it would be for other Filipinas going to the rest of the US. I think I had more problems adjusting to living in the Mainland. So it would could be worse for someone from another country living there.

We live in south east Santa Ana, unfortunately a bit close to South Coast Plaza Mall unsure.gif Claudeth loves to shop unsure.gif I work in downtown Santa Ana which is about 3 miles from home. It is pleasant here year round. I play golf on Saturdays a lot and we go to the swapmeet at the Orange County fair grounds.

Yeah no cheap beer. You also live in an area with a big Filipino population? good.gif

PhilippinesWhere to honeymoon in the U.S.A.?
Being that you are both Ilocano, Hawaii is the perfect place. Most of the Filipinos here are Ilocano, and 30% to 50% of the population here is Filipino. Of course it can cost more, but there are alot of deals now. Also come to Kauai, since Waikiki and Maui are so fake now.

You live in Hawaii, and in Waikiki. You should go to Chinatown and look at the markets there. I have a client who owns a Filipino restaurant and she goes to Chinatown to get Filipino food. Also there is a big Filipino store in Waipahu. I live on Kauai and and my wife can get almost any food that she craves from the Philippines. You are lucky to be in Hawaii, plenty of Filipinos there.

PhilippinesAge difference between Filipinas and americans (Poll)
Me american 34
My fiance 26

So 8 years. Which is fine once the woman is over 18,hehe. For the most part it is everyone else who makes a big deal about age gaps. The couple themselves seem to have no problems. Also in the mainland too, mixed race couples seem to draw attention. But the main thing is to love each other, then everything else is just details.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2007-05-23 02:24:00
PhilippinesCultural Differences? Or, are we really that different?
Well here in Hawaii it is the puti or Haole from the mainland that has to adjust more than the Filipino from PI. Seems weird, but my wife fits in here better than my brothers wife who is from the mainland.
