PhilippinesWould my fiancee's work status matter?
Japanese would be nice, for hotel jobs. But she can learn Ilocano, then many other jobs open up. Even speaking Tagalog is a big plus in Hawaii. Oahu job market is okay at about 4.5%, so finding any job should be easy. Just remember to take her to Waipahu to shop and eat at max and jolibee.

PhilippinesHow is your Filipina / Filipino Adjusting?
My wife really had no problems here. Most of the people living here are from her province. The weather is tropical so the same fruits and gulay grow here. The big problems was going from a long distance relationship to her being here 24/7. Also the aos process was tough as well, since she could do anything until she got her green card.

PhilippinesFor everyone looking for local Filipinos
No problem finding Filipinos here, but they mostly speak Ilocano here. It reminds me of Ilocos Norte here.

PhilippinesBe careful with my heart.
Oh my G. This show is so super kilig. Started to only watch from past two months and caught from last July 2012. Heck I don't even watch American tv na. Well until football season.

PhilippinesFunny thing Old filipino lady said and filipinos say and this i love and hate about the PI!?
The funny thing I have said wrong is the word bag. Say the wrong way, well it means something else. Also on time I opened a bottle and the person next to me looked at me and said yes.

PhilippinesEAD & AOS
Well you should know how the state runs by now, hehe. But the same situation happened with my wife. Got married in 60 days after her Poe. Applied for certified copies, and got them in about 31 days. Was told it might be 6 weeks because of the good ole furloughs. We got the original about 4 months later. So my wife filed after her I-94 expired. I think just so long you get married in 90 days, then no problem. Border patrol won't come looking for your wife. It seems that people got in trouble when they did not file after a year or more, and traveled near Mexico. Also you should get at least 6 or more copies, since you need them for later on.

PhilippinesCultural Differences
We are surprised how similar our cultures were. We eat a lot of rice here. She has no problem finding Filipino fruits and gulay. It was the same in reverse. Her relatives in PI were shocked how easy I fit in, and acted like was Filipino already.

PhilippinesBehold Halo-Halo, the Filipino Dessert That's Taking Over New York City
I like halo halo. But I do not want pay 4 to 7 dollars to have it here. I miss paying about 2 dollars for halo halo at Chow King. Yeah we had Filipino food here for 100 years, so it is pretty normal here. I guess New York is 100 years behind.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2013-07-25 14:29:00
PhilippinesOk !!! Why are so Many Filipina's Connecting Up with American Men......???
True love is the answer. Well here in Hawaii, many Filipino couples are separated by immigration. So the partner that comes here first, goes back and gets their partner.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2013-07-30 14:05:00
PhilippinesRice

I have been eating Hinode short grain white rice all my life.  It is the staple food here.  In an effort to be "healthy" and honor the current POTUS, me and the wife have been eating Hinode hapa rice.  I have noticed here that the Ilocanos are split 50/50 between Jasmine and Hindoe short grain rice.

PhilippinesCongrats Guys, Miss Philippiness Wins Miss World 2013
Oh well miss USA is Indian, and the runner up is Chinese. So it does not matter to me, and I think Hapa people are cute, but I am biased. Miss Young is a Filipino citizen so walang problema. I do miss watching her on TFC, though.

PhilippinesCongrats Guys, Miss Philippiness Wins Miss World 2013
I think her name is Meagan Young. She was one of the many Hapa Haole stars on Abs-Cbn. I think she moved networks na. We Americans should be proud too.

PhilippinesBest airlines to fly to Manila now that Hawaiian airlines is done?
I used PAL, and the flight was fine. Also PAL also has first time one way immigrant fare. But PAL has a history of being on PI time or plane always late. It is the only direct flight na. Continental was good too, with only one stop in Guam. United still has this route, so that is good too. Not to sure about discounted one way fares, though. JAL and Korean Air have good reputation, but fly to their respective countries first.

PhilippinesInterview today!! Oct. 18!
No worry beef curry. She goin be in Oahu soon. Be prepared to spend choke time in Waipahu now. We should pray for one Hawaii win.

Thanks guys!

Already learning waray. Ilocos is far away as Roda is from eastern visayas, Samar. Lol

Well I mean she has to learn Ilocano, that and pidgin, the two official languages of Hawaii.

PhilippinesFilipino Fiancee after three weeks here wants to go home!
Maybe it is time for her to go home. If she does not like in Hawaii, then she will never be happy. Hawaii is like being in PI and America at the same time.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2013-10-19 16:24:00
Philippinesvisa arrived today! And discount PAL ticket?
Seems like PAL is the cheapest, but also the best choice. A direct flight to Honolulu with no worries about connecting flights. That is good that your wife likes local food. I guess she won't be complaining about food, weather or culture shock.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2013-10-26 15:00:00
Philippinesvisa arrived today! And discount PAL ticket?
Well 6 years ago there was a discount. But the easiest way is to send her money, and she can book at the local PAL office. But the fare was 600 dollars or so, from Laoag to Honolulu. Lucky she goin need only 1 flight to Oahu. So. You goin have lau lau or lechon at the luau?
Psoas10MalePhilippines2013-10-25 15:28:00

PhilippinesStill worried, Financial Support, K1
It is 22312 for Hawaii, but you still make more than that. It called the paradise tax, but means your future spouse won't complain about being homesick.

PhilippinesSuper typhoon Haiyan-our payers are with you all
Been through Iwa but not Iniki. This storm is even stronger than Iniki. I hope the brunt of the storm misses them. Also hope they have real secure place to hide, that is not near water. I remember being at UH Hilo during Iniki and being so worried for my parents. Ingat.

PhilippinesWelcome to America my love!
Congrats! I guess Joan needs to learn Ilocano now. But I guess she won't complain about meeting Filipinos or getting Filipino food. Make sure to travel to the neighbor islands, when she gets settled.

Spam! I just had spam, eggs and rice from BK for breakfast.

PhilippinesWhy is it so hard to find a good Filipino restaurant?
I like when you can get all the ingredients fresh from the yard, including the chickens. Well maybe not the chickens. My wife jus wen make sinigang, wen was jus cold recently.

PhilippinesWhy is it so hard to find a good Filipino restaurant?
Filipino food is real popular among the non-Filipinos here.

Philippinesk1 okay to visit Hawaii? poe sfo
I would practice your Ilocano, before you come to Hawaii. Yeah you will like Hawaii, it is just like Ilocos Norte here.

PhilippinesFilipino in San Antonio TX
They are around, since there are many military installations there. About 15 years ago I remember some Filipino group wraped my presents at Borders.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2014-02-21 16:41:00
PhilippinesPhilippine food banned by US Customs
I am lucky no one grows durian near us. There are some trees on the north shore on a farm away from people. Also it seems the Ilocanos don't like durian that much. If they did, then it would be on every Filipinos's yard like malungay bitter melon. Besides the OP will live in the bay area, she will need not worry about getting Filipino food.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2014-03-17 20:19:00
PhilippinesFilipina K1 Visa Form G-325a
I think the op is confusing the word nationality for ethnicity/race. I think her fiancé is a Filipino-American. Where many Filipinos in PI think americans can be only white. Also many Americans are confused by the meaning of nationality too. So the answer to question would be us citizen.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2014-03-28 14:43:00
PhilippinesWhy are so many American Men connecting with Filipina's
I am surrounded by Filipinos, so I guess I would marry one. Never thought I would marry one from PI, though.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2013-07-19 17:22:00
PhilippinesUpdate on Hawaii Marriage Certificate
Mahalo Steve, this shall be usefull, when I need more copies of my marriage certificate. So I guess your wife is learning Ilocano now, and making a lot of trips to Waipahu for food.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2013-08-28 17:15:00
PhilippinesPhilippines’ air carriers can add flights and service to the United States

I wonder if there is tunay demand for more travel to the US.  Hawaiian cancelled their direct flight to Manila.  Also it is mostly Balikabayans going to vacation in PI then coming back to the US.  I wonder if United or any other US based airline would have direct flights to Manila from the Mainland.  But that would be nice if there was other airlines flying direct to Manila from the US.  Coz I agreee, PAL is can be bad.

Psoas10MalePhilippines2014-04-12 16:04:00
PhilippinesComing to America on a K1 and a CR1
I think some countries are okay to transit through. I would just use PAL from Manila to the west coast or Hawaii. Probably the most expensive way though.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2014-02-24 15:04:00
PhilippinesConditional Green Card received! LUAU!
Aurai, she wen pass. We'll no can go coz, 500 dollars for two round trips from Kauai is to expensive. Plus my in laws going come on their IR 5 around August. So goin up fo dat. So good, your wife can work, and get her license now.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2014-06-23 13:04:00
PhilippinesSo...where are the VJ Fil-Am success stories?

great situations, thought we would throw in ours, too. Roda has been in Hawaii for 5 months, we have been married 3 of those. It just keeps getting better and better! So much to look forward to! Before I met her, I thought I had all the time in the world. Now life seems so short. So much to do, so much to experience together!

Our AOS (i-485) just got accepted 3 days ago! Moving on and moving forward!

Funny note: The longer she stays in Hawai`i, the shorter her next vacation in the Philiipines becomes! Who can blame her? dancin5hr.gif

Not much culture shock, esp when she learns pidgin good. My wife was the same way.
