US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPolice Certificate
I agree with what was said. The best thing is to go to the interview without the police certificate. The Embassy should should postpone issuing the visa until you submit the police certificate. It is not the end of the world right now.
Also she needs to go to her local police office to get the police record. She cannot get in in Moscow. This means that she will need to travel to her hometown, pay the bribe, get the police certificate and either DHL or hand the police certificate to the US Embassy.
I know how you feel about lawyers. I hired one when I shouldn't have. After our approval from the USCIS, the lawyer has been pretty much useless. It took knowledge on my part to prepare for Irina's interview on Monday. Good luck with everything!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionQuestions asked at K-1 interview at Moscow Russia
--I talked to my fiancee. She told me the questions that were asked at her interview. She also told me that 10 women were scheduled at the same time with other people scheduled every half-hour after that.
-- She was asked four questions: How did we meet; How many times have we met; Is a 10 year age difference a problem for her; and she was asked jokingly to whom was she married before (she got divorced 5 years ago).
-- The way she described the process to me, the embassy employee first asked to see all of her documents. They took one picture of the two of us together, looked at the phone records and a couple of emails, and just noticed the stack of bank statements. They really didn't go through the financial documents. I think she mentioned them looking at the 2005 tax return but that was about it. After looking at the documents, they asked her to pay the $100 fee. At that point, she knew that she would pass the interview.
-- I hope this will help some of you. It was encouraging to know that all of the women that went in for the interview passed. It did not take any of them long.

thanks kc, the flow chart says US citizen receives a DS-3032 form as well. All I see in this forum is a bunch of hypocrites. I can't wish you well or otherwise, since I am on the same boat, but I wish you were more understanding and woul really help other couples instead of being so selfish and wrapped in their own little world. To all those fat bigot senior members; I hope I don't see on dateline or mistery unsolved, trying to find the foreign missing wife. I found couple of websites with lots of nice couples helping each other, and I am not coming back here, but I'd definitely spread the word about this forum.

You need psychiatric help and this is not that kind of forum.

Right, he'll need an visa and 5 years permanent resident status before filing for citizenship just as you did.

I thought children under 21 go through a different route than adults as soon as they get an immigrant visa.

If you are the biological father, you can simply follow the procedure to get your son a US passport at the Consulate abroad. He never needed a visa. If, step-son he needs a visa and will have citizenship requirements similar to that of your wife. Similar in that he takes a minimum of two years longer.

If you want them to arrive with K3 and K4 visas, just ignore the I-130s.

I filed I-130 for both my wife and our son on December 12th 2007, yesterday my son's I-130 got approved at CSC, however there is no word on my wife's I-129F nor on her I-130. I am not sure what to do at this point. Since my 3 year old son's I-130 has been approved, and according to the letter, sent to NVC - can he still qualify for K4 visa? Should I use RFE line and talk to somebody at CSC? Should I go ahead proceed with 1-130 route through NVC just on his case, or ignore the correspondence from NVC and wait for one of the other peitions to get approved?

For the time being, I would just wait. If you want K3 and K4, I wouldn't pay unnecessary fees to NVC or let your three year old's process get ahead of your wife's.

I suspect all the petitions will be approved shortly.

Well, now that I had some time to sleep on in it and get over the excitement of being approved I'll tell the story. After my son's I-130 petition got approved, I called USCIS (using RFE trick), talked to a nice lady, who said that my wife's petitions were in Division 5 and they were not even assigned an office. I told her that I did not think that my wife would ever allow a three year old to fly by himself, nor that I could handle him on my own smile.gif She laughed and said that she would send an email. As far as NVC goes, she said that they would have no problem holding his petition until she is approved. I got a touch later that day (april 14), I called on the 16th and was told by another officer that our petitions were assigned to an officer now and that approval could happen any day. We got touched ont he 17th and were sure that we got approved, however there was no change on the website. I called on monday (21st) and spoke with a male immigration officer who said that we should get approved either today or tomorrow. We got touched on the 22nd with no change on the website and then on the 23rd got emails that our case was approved on the 22nd. I am not for sure what to do with my son's I-130 which is pending at NVC. I do not know if my wife's I-130 will be forwarded to NVC either. I read somewhere that my son could get a certification of citizenship upon arrival to the US, does it mean that he will not need his I-130 and K4 visa would be enough for this. Any input would be welcome.

United KingdomInterview on Monday, nerves are kicking in!

I'm sure you will do great! Read the embassy reviews for the UK to see what kind of questions you can expect.  We had a similar experience as the previous posters.  They only looked at a few of our pictures and chat logs.  Most of our questions were about how we met.  The CO did ask a lot of the same questions that had been mentioned by posters in the embassy reviews for Romania, so we were prepared to answer them.

Good luck!

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusSuggestions for airlines to Mexico
My sister -in -law is from Romania and she just met us in Cancun this past week. Same issue - needed a flight that didn't require a transit visa. She had an air france flight from Paris (started in bucharest) to mexico city to cancun. My husband took this same route 2 years to meet up with me when he couldn't get a tourist visa

AS of last week it was AF438 from paris and AF8104 (operated by aeromexico)

she had the same return flight but she left on a friday - don't know if that makes a difference

I know u were only asking about from Russia but just a heads up - we flew frontier and had the awful experience of being denied boarding on our flight out of mexico with my hubby's AP/combo card . Would not recommend frontier from the states!

Before going for your interview be sure to read the Embassy reviews for Bucharest.  I went with my husband for his interview and it went almost exactly how people described it would.  They asked most of the same questions that had been stated in their reviews, so we felt well prepared.  I found the workers at the embassy to be very professional and friendly to us.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaWedding in Colombia

I have a quick question for anyone who might have done something similar. Once our K1 is approved, we will have a civil marriage ceremony in the US.
Later in the year however, we will have a more formal ceremony in Colombia. We've already picked out some choices for locations in Bogota...
As we are of different religions, we can't have a religious ceremony, and as we will already be married, we can't exactly have a straight up civil ceremony in Colombia either. Any suggestions on who can perform this wedding in Colombia? Is there a justice of the peace kind of person who can officiate a ceremony like this?

Thanks!

PS If anyone has any suggestions on other locations as well in Bogota or Cundinamarca surrounds I'd love to hear it as well. Right now we've picked out a couple castles that look interesting.

My wife and I were married at the Metropolis in one of the separate buildings they have just for such events. Wedding and reception all in the same room. We were married by a Notary. Notaries in Colombia have several legal powers that notaries here do not. Sorry I can't be more specific with details - my wife handled all of our arrangements. Good luck!

You have nothing to worry about inside the Bogota airport. I'm as "gringo" as they get and have never had a problem there in four visits to Colombia. While I don't recall being treated like a rock star jest.gif , I can assure you that the vast majority of Colombianos are very friendly and hospitable. After all, I fell in love with one of them!!!!

QUOTE (TE AMO ECUADOR @ Sep 4 2008, 10:59 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I have had friends in the same situation and most likely what it is going to take on your part is a CASH PAYMENT to get the father to sign the papers. Most likely he is holding out for this as this is a common practice in some latin countries. lawyer, not going to help really and the money spent on the lawyer would better be spent on the payoff. But you need to understand that most likely you will have the father bothering you for your whole marriage together. Hopefully you are prepared to deal with this. i wish you much luck and just know that your situation is not unusual .

Andy y Fer

My wife's best friend in Colombia is a lawyer (though not currently practicing....sorry). She says that the mother CAN get sole custody, but it will probably be very contentious and quite ugly, and can take four to six months. As Mononoke said, this will require proof of abuse of either the mother or the children, abandonment of the family by the father, history of criminal activity, or something else equally serious.

We feared that the father of Lorena's boys would not give permission for them to leave, also. In the end, she told him that if he didn't want them to go, he needed to take them to his home, provide their food and clothing, etc., etc. He changed his tune very quickly when he thought of losing even a part of his free "party all the time" lifestyle, and signed the permission. BUT...... This was HIM, and Lorena knew he'd react this way. This kind of thing is also very common with latin men, according to my wife.

Before you dismiss the idea of a lawyer and permanent custody, though, consider that EACH time your wife goes home to Colombia with her kid(s), she will need a NEW letter of permission from the father. Without that, DAS will not let them leave the country.

Best of luck,
Charles

That's what we use, the ETB card from 1vende.com. We tried Orbitel a few months ago and it was horrible, so we went back to ETB.

Diana

Yeah, Orbitel sucks for the most part, but they are a bit cheaper for cell phone calls. By and large we make virtually all of our calls using ETB. Of course, anyone would also be wise to arrange as many conversations for "free" by using the internet. Most of the internet cafes in Colombia are dirt cheap, if your pareja doesn't have their own computer. (and sorry about getting the website backwards....lol)

I just wanted to let you know that SIMPLINK (simplink.com) has a rechargable phone card that you can call Colombia with. You can program speed dial numbers into it online as well so you do not have to constantly redial the number. This is especially helpful with the unreliable phone systems out there. The best thing is that you can go online and get a record of the numbers you actually called. The only thing is that it only shows about a week's worth of calls. You can either save the list weekly or try calling customer service and see if they can pull the rest for you (that is what I am going to do).
The rates are as follows:

Destination Web Rate/ Retail Rate
Colombia $0.09/ $0.11
- Baranquilla $0.04/ $0.05
- Bogota $0.04/ $0.04
- Cali $0.03/ $0.04
- Medellin $0.05/ $0.06
- Mobile/SS $0.22/ $0.27
- Mobile/SS COMCEL $0.21/ $0.25
- Mobile/SS MOVISTAR $0.15/ $0.18
- Mobile/SS OLA $0.14/ $0.17
- Palmira $0.09/ $0.11
- Pereira $0.09/ $0.11

Hope this helps! smile.gif

United KingdomUK Healthcare
I have never had a problem with the NHS, my US wife loved the midwife service when having a baby, so much so she wants to have a midwife again much to the fustration of our insurance company. I have been more fustrated by the system over here than anywhere else. When we came back here we came back as a family, therefore no medical insurance. My wife and son got on Medicaid until I got full time employment, but I only recently got insurance, thank god I didnt get sick before. I am now having to worry about the cost of having another baby as my deductible will come into play.

The NHS isnt perfect, but at least I was ALWAYS seen by a GP on the day if I called before 10am. Over here if my son is sick we have to wait 3-4 days, unless he has an ear infection then its 48 hours.

Now dont get me wrong, my son had an operation whilst on Medicaid and the level of service and the standard of the hospital were superb, better than what I have seen in the UK. However I just don't understand in a country as rich and wealthy as America that it doesn't have a unified health care system. My wife is also works as an insurance biller for a doctors surgery and the way these insurance companies get the payments wrong just in the hope that you don't notice.

Neither system is perfect, but I would rather not have to worry about insurance and coverage and just know that I will be taken care off.

I would recommend flying virgin atlantic. I have flown with BA, Continental and Virgin. Continental are ok for the price, but I found that they didnt have on demand movies or free drinks and the food was a bit meh. BA are fairly decent, but as they are about the same price as virgin I would always go with virgin.

Virgin have on demand movies, tv shows, music and free drinks. Lots of leg room and I have always found the staff to be really friendly and helpful.

When we made the big move over we flew with virgin because we had myself, my then fiance and my son. We wanted to the extra leg room. The staff allowed us to get a bulkhead seat so that we could get a crib in there and my son wandered all over the plan and after around 2 hours all the staff knew his name and were giving him snacks and drinks whenever he wandered past, it was rather funny.

Never flew with united or AA so I cant comment on them.

United KingdomDid you get married in a hurry for the visa
We were lucky that my wife was able to live in the UK for two years before we got married. We weren't able to get married in the UK due to some technicality, so we got our finance visa and got married in Vegas. Vegas seemed the ideal choice as that is where we met and was a bit more glamorous than going to a courthouse. We are now planning on having a big wedding sometime next year where we will have all our family over. We both feel a bit peeved that we never had a proper wedding because of this process.

I am so glad that we had those two years in the UK, as we got all the living together issues over with before we moved over here and got married. I would say that if you are happy get married, do it in the UK and then go for a spouse visa so the non USC can work when he gets there.

Anyway do what you feel best for you and don't worry about everyone else.

P.S Our quality of life is so much better over here.

I pop in now and again when I get a chance. We just had our first wedding anniversary, we had planned on going to New York, but we are now in the process of buying our first house together, so any extra funds have just evaporated.

I also just started a new job, doing more stuff that I was doing in the UK and finally getting the wage that I wanted. For the past 8 months I was running the IT network of a small manufacturing company, I had to take what I could at the time. Now I am getting calls from headhunters every other day. I say it has taken me about a year to get to where I wanted to.

Still to make and real friends, more just people that I am friendly with, but hopefully that will change with my new job. All in all wouldnt change it for anything, well except the extra weight I have put on since being here (on a diet and going to the gym at the moment.)

If you are stopped by the police and they don't arrest you, then they didn't need to know your real name. If they arrest you I am sure there are ways and means to find out. Also if they arrest you they can search your person, which would most likely reveal your driving license or bank cards. If you are in the car and stopped, you don't have to show your license, but the police will know who the car is registered to before they even speak to you.

So I was looking into getting my US born daughter registered with the UK embassy so I can get her UK passport. Now looking at the price it is around $300, plus around $140 for the passport. Now the question is do I need to register her birth and get a UK birth certificate to get her UK passport?

Obviously if that is what needs to be done then it will, but I got another son who i need to get a passport for, both US and UK, plus my daughters UK and US, then my naturalization fee (around $700), and this needs to get done before we fly to the UK for my sisters wedding next year.
