Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionAPRIL FILERS!
I just got home from work and guess what was in the mailbox??? NOA1 and the name is right, on his conditional greencard it is wrong. I wrote them a little note asking them to please get his name right it caused us so much confusion applying for everything and when we moved out of state they put it wrong on his drivers license because the greencard is what they go by not marriage license, ss card, passport.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 visa and british mental heath act
all i can find is this:
(I) to have a physical or mental disorder and behavior associated with the disorder that may pose, or has posed, a threat to the property, safety, or welfare of the alien or others, or

(II) to have had a physical or mental disorder and a history of behavior associated with the disorder, which behavior has posed a threat to the property, safety, or welfare of the alien or others and which behavior is likely to recur or to lead to other harmful behavior, or

i don't know what they will consider bulimia and depression to be.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 visa and british mental heath act
Hello i'm going to try and apply for a K1 visa, but my fiancee has been unable to work for the last year and a half under the mental heath act for bulimia and depression. Is it still possible for us to get a K1 visa on our own or do we have spend a ton of money on a lawyer? Guess i just want to know if anyone knows how the USCIS wil take this.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 or K3?
Hello, I wasn't really sure which forum to put this in (K1, K3?). Anyways, my g/f and I are both in the US now and she is due to leave on Jan. 15. I went to visit her in England 2 years ago and she came out here for about a month last year, so just getting married and filling for an A.O.S. is out of the question.
We're trying to figure out if we should just get married before she leaves and then fill for a K3, or not and just fill for a K1. We really didn't want to go through the A.O.S. after she has already got the visa, but from what i read it sounds like we will have to that either way. We would really just like to which option would be easiest and/or less costly for us.
Thanks in advance.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-129F question 18
Al right, so I have answered the question with a 'YES', and wrote about half a page (1.5 spaced) first explaining how we met in 2005 and then explaining when/how we met in person the last two years. We're including pictues of those last two years, boarding passes and passport stamps. That should do it?

Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-129F question 18
Hi!

I've been reading for a while. Me and my fiancé are finally putting our K1 package together, but while filling in the I-129F we got stuck at question 18, and I was hoping someone here could help us!

Our situation is:
We met in August 2005 in The Netherlands. Since then we've been visiting each other in both the US as the Netherlands as much as we could. Since I am now finally getting done with grad school, we are now starting our K1 process.

The thing we were confused about regarding question 18 is whether they want to know if we have met for the first time in the last two years OR if we have met in person in the last two years.
If they want the first, our answer would be 'NO', it they want the second, it would be 'YES'. Also the details would be different. The story of how we met is different than the story of how we met in the last two years.

Thanks so much!

Clint

USCIS Service CentersStatus on USCIS website AP/EAD
We filled Oct. 30th 2012, and for some reason out NOA's were returned to the USCIS being undeliverable. Funny thing is, is that we haven't moved so a changed of address didn't happen. That's been about the only weird thing that has happened on our end. The Biometrics appointment is Thursday Dec. 20th. Hoping we'll get our EAD within a couple of weeks. We didn't file for the AP due to the lack of avilable PTO on my end, just was extra paperwork.

Good luck.

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)Every one can track his Application here.
I used this tool and found my case status as 'ready'. It is possible that only select consulates are using this method until they all change over to online applications. To search use your case number the NVC assigned you.

CanadaWhat is the timeline after receiving the NOA2 are we able to schedule an interview?
This is a general inquiry, we haven't received our NOA2 but should be expecting it sometime between the end of July and beginning of August. So we are wondering what some other VJers have gone through, what was your experience, was it a long process. Our consulate is the one in Montreal.

CanadaAsked for I94

you should be able to open a bank account anywhere just with your passport. who refused you? any non us citizen can have a bank account here.

This is not true, you need to have an SSN or a tax id number. I currently work in banking and have for 5+ years. I have seen some banks do it without however, but is not usually the procedure taken.

CanadaMontreal Packet 3 Clarification
Hello, I have a couple questions regarding sending Packet 3 to Montreal. While searching these forums I've found conflicting information.

I send:
DS-230
DS-156 x2
DS-156K
DS-160 receipt
checklist
2 photos
copy of first page of my passport

As for the checklist, I just check those off that I will be bringing those items to the interview correct? I don't send any of them along with the packet 3?

Lastly, it just says 'birth certificate', it doesn't specify short or long form. For Montreal, does this matter?

Thank you in advance for your replies.

Canadalast night in Canada...
Our interview was the 17th, I (USC) had drove up to accompany my fiance to his interview and was going to drive back Wed. or Thursday. Reality really hit when we started getting updates as to where hit passport was Wednesday night. He decided to come with me Tursday on the drive back home. Tears were shed and the process really flew by.

CanadaDo I need the SSN card before I get married?
You wont need an SSN to get married. All we provided when getting our marrage license was his passport. We applied for the SSN# 2 weeks after he was here and received it within 5 days.

US Citizenship General DiscussionChecklist
Ugh. $80 dollars. Good catch. I would have missed that. You would think, since this is the third time I've paid for biometrics, that I would be exempt.

My husband's passport should be enough to prove his citizenship, yes? I thought the checklist online said birth certificate or passport. I'll send in both just to be sure.

Thanks, I'll take a look at it.

I'm using the N-400 instructions, and I don't see anywhere in there that mentions sending photos, unless I'm missing it. I realize there is a lot more information I need to send (I have all that), I was just curious about the photos.

US Citizenship General DiscussionSame sex marriage
A friend of mine, who has been a legal resident / green card holder for over six years is about to apply for citizenship. Last year he married his partner in Boston, where same sex marriages are legal. When filling out the N-400 form - does he mention this marriage - or does he fill it out as being single, since it is not recognized on a federal level?

US Citizenship General DiscussionName change
I'm going to apply for my American citizenship soon and I know I have the option to change my name when I do. As a gift to my step-dad (he's been my 'dad' for over 30 years), I'm thinking about changing my last name to his, but I want to know how this will affect my Canadian documentation/citizenship. Do I have to legally change my name in Canada too or do I just send the paperwork of my name change here in the USA and re-apply for all my Canadian documentation (SIN, Passport, etc...).

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.
