CanadaI guess we've decided to K-1 it
After the drama of http://www.visajourn...howtopic=232234 and a few days thought, we have decided to file for the K-1. Totally not what we wanted to... we are both worried that we have "red flags" in our relationship. I am 11 years older than my fiance (and to get it out of the way, he is 18, I am 29. we met on WoW, and everyone just assumed he was 20s, 30s... ages weren't really discussed? when I did learn his age, YES of course it was a lot to think about... but he is a person, not a number. he is more mature than the male friends my own age lol. we are so happy together, such a good match. both sets of parents give their blessings... so it is what it is.) , we have only met in person twice (and both while I was legally married, although this second trip I have been in the divorce process, just waiting on court date, which is 1/8). So we're worried. :/
Also worried that the no eos/cos stamped in his passport will be a hinderance to this process? Will that matter?

We are going to get the packet together while he is still here. Everything except my divorce papers I guess, and then I mail the second I am legally single again.

I wanted to add him to my checking and savings account while he is here... can anyone think of a reason this is a bad idea?

I hope we're making a wise decision. Everyone we asked had a different opinion. This seems like a reasonable way to go... and as I understand it, his living by the Vancouver side will mean faster processing than if he lived farther east? Something like that?

Anyways, after this, I guess off to the K1 forum with those questions as they arise. Thank you all for your help through this. This is a truly wonderful board and we are so glad we were directed here a few months ago with our very first questions. smile.gif

CanadaSome questions about filing for the K-1...
I came up with one more as I was looking things over.

My fiance and I both filled out a G-325A Biographic Info paper. On the bottom, it says "Applicant: print your name and alien registration number in the box outlined by the heavy border below."
Do we each give our own name in this box? The term "applicant" is confusing me...

Sorry for all of the questions. I think this is it for a while!

CanadaSome questions about filing for the K-1...
Thanks so much for all of the help. Everything has been coming together great, far as I can tell. Will even finish the packet (minus divorce paper) tonight!

One final question though. Would someone be kind enough to help double check for me...
I already know that I don't make enough to sponsor my fiance. Not on any planet lol. I am below poverty line just for myself.
My mom makes right about $30,000 a year. She only supports herself. Inside the household are me, and her (has no other kids, no spouse, no other anythings). So as you guys have told me, she has to make enough for me, herself, and my fiance, making 3 people total. What it looks like to me, is that she needs to make around $22k a year to qualify on income alone, so we are in the clear. Is that correct?
I am just asking before we start... I want to be sure I understood, did the math right, etc. I am not confident in what I came up with, so I would hugely be grateful for someone to double check.

Thank you guys again. smile.gif

CanadaSome questions about filing for the K-1...
My fiance is here visiting me in the USA from Canada, and we are preparing the first packet as much as we can, before he leaves. I am waiting on my divorce court date (after years of separation) which is four days after my fiance returns to Canada. As soon as I can add my divorce paperwork I will get the packet in the mail.

My questions are all pretty stupid, but I'd rather ask now, rather than regret it later!

Also, I have read the guides! I have used the search. I either couldn't find the answer, or just flat out didn't understand it. So my questions are:

*Do I fasten all of these papers together? Or just use like, a folder you would purchase for school? Are staples okay? I just want to get it to them in the right manner. I dont want to send loose papers if this is not how it is done!

*I am sending some photographs of our time together, should they just go inside another baggie like the one the passport style photos go in? Or? (For evidence of meeting recently I am using scans of his boarding passes, his flight itineraries, his airport to my house shuttle confirmation, and some photos. Should this be sufficient?)

*I typed up the forms online, and printed them out. Sometimes words were cut off, I assume it's okay to finish the words with black ink by hand?

*Later, when I am doing the affidavit of support... well I was married for 11 years. I was a homemaker for some of those years. I know I need to attach past bank statements and tax returns... does it matter they were joint with him? I only recently opened my own bank account with the action of the divorce which I paid for in October of this year.
I also just started a new job, after not having been employed for a while. It's steady employment, but it's new. I hope this doesn't hurt me... (My ex still supported me financially up until about 6 months ago, while I was looking for work, despite living in his new home with his girlfriend.)

*I do not make enough to sponsor my finace. My mother I *think* does make enough. We live in the same house to save money. She does not support me, we each support ourselves. She does not claim me on her taxes. Anywhere I could look up what her income needs to be in this particular case? Does she have to make enough to support herself, my finace and me? Or just the two of them? I'm totally confused by this. The one thing I do know, is that I am very fortunate to have a mom that will help me out and be co-sponsor!

I think thats it. I'm really hoping to have this 99% ready to mail by the time my fiance goes home in a couple weeks. I think I'm doing pretty well getting it together... just a few of these questions that I can't figure out.
Thanks very much for any assistance!

CanadaK-1 medical, immunization records question
Thank you all. My fiance was home schooled until grade 11, and I don't think he had to have any documentation to get into school at that age, or as far as he remembers. He is going to make a doctors appointment this week to get the titre test... I think it's fairly hopeless that he finds any old records. They've had no luck so far. I hope he can get all of this done in time. :/

he needs to ask about getting a titre test done. Here's the link to what vaccines are needed to immigrate.

http://www.panelphys.../Pages/Age6.htm

Oh thank you for that link! I thought there were more. Google has led me to some huuuge lists. I'm glad I asked.

Thanks all for the answers, we both feel a lot better about this. We are good at thinking of every little thing as a huge road block, lol.

CanadaK-1 medical, immunization records question
My fiance and I are just starting this, but trying to plan ahead. His mom only got him vaccinated against a few things as a child, skipped the rest. She doesn't remember what. She doesn't recall his pediatrician either. There were records, but apparently they were lost during a transfer. She has said that she has someone trying to track them down, but this seems very iffy. :/

My fiance went to the doctor and explained this, the doctor said he just can't get the shots without the records. What in the world do you do if the records are lost? I can't imagine this is the first time a child's medical records are not available. >.<

As an adult he hasn't had so much as a tetanus shot. I was suggesting to him that he get going on some of these shots (although I am having a rough time figuring out exactly what he has to get), since he needs so many, this could tie up everything?

CanadaI-134 questions and one about immunizations!
Thank you all very much. I have come here with so so many questions over the past couple months and have received such wonderful help. It is just hugely appreciated.

Everything is becoming much clearer, and perhaps a little easier than I had it in my mind that it would be. :)
garnet80FemaleCanada2010-01-10 21:20:00
CanadaI-134 questions and one about immunizations!

If he was home schooled and his mother never reported his vaccinations to the health board I can't see how they're would be any records unless his family doctor did it for her. My doctor would always tell my mom to call and report my vaccinations. Also, vaccinations given during childhood are usually imposed by the school, so it is quite possible he is missing things for this reason. If you can delay his medical until after he turns 19, that would probably be in his best interest. If he has it before he turns 19 he would be required to get the Hep B shots, Meningococcal and Polio if he doesn't already have them.

For the I-134 it is just fine that most of the form is blank. Just fill in what you can. There are many VJers who applied for K-1's for their fiance(e)s while they were in school and had an income of virtually zero. The most important thing is that you actually do fill out the form and include the required documentation. I understand that your ex-husband and you always filled your taxes jointly? So your tax return from 2008 should have both your names on it? If so I would bring that since you don't have any W2's. It will show that you have been filling taxes. For your mother, her W2's and employer letter should be fine, but they may also want to see her most recent tax return. Montreal has requested that from some people. If she meets the income requirements then there is no need for her to include anything about additional assets.

Well since we don't know when his medical will be, and he is trying to get his shots done NOW so there is no worry, we just figured go with everything an 18 year old needs.

Yeah, I think my name is on the taxes each year, so okay, I'll add that to what I can send. My mom can certainly add her latest tax return(s) too.

For the lines we leave blank, do we literally leave them blank? I realize that sounds stupid, but it seems like you are supposed to put "none" or "n/a" or whatever...

I'm glad she wont need to get tons of bank information and such. It seems this will be fairly simple due to her income.

Thanks very much.

CanadaI-134 questions and one about immunizations!

Oh ew, that is such a pain! It looks like the titre is the best to do. I'm going to look at my records, I'm only 19..so maybe I can help! One minute. :)
As well, where will he be going for his medical??

Erm, I don't know? He lives in Westbank, BC.

We are just starting to try to get things figured out lol.

CanadaI-134 questions and one about immunizations!
He was home schooled until grade 11, and as far as anyone can tell, they didn't care at that point and had no records. Everywhere else has been called, they all say the records were lost in transfer. >.< I do know his mom only had a very few done anyway. I wish she knew which ones, would be a start lol.

Thanks for the reply.

CanadaI-134 questions and one about immunizations!
I have only just sent in my I-129, so I know it will be a while until this form needs to be filled out, but I'm curious about a few things.

I don't make enough at my job to sponsor my fiance. Not even close. My mom has agreed to co-sponsor, and she makes around 30k a year which should be good.

Prior to this, I was married. I don't even have w-2's for the past 3 years. All our finances were joint and I was a homemaker. I can't imagine I should use HIS w-2's in this form. My job has only been for a few months now. I will have been there close to a year by the time I fill out the I-134 though.

I have no savings, no real assets except my car? No stocks, no life insurance. It would seem the form for me is going to be nearly blank. Is that okay? I have no idea how much my form matters. I can give the employee sheet stating my job, title, wage, and some recent pay stubs, but thats about all I have. Is that a problem?
I am classified as part time (though I work just under full time hours, like literally two hours under, hoping this will change soon). Does that matter?

My mom, she makes enough just with her hourly salary. But she also has no stocks, insurance, savings, etc. She has her income. She has w-2's, and she can get the employer letter... but thats about it for her too. Is that okay?
The number we put down is before any money is taken out, correct?

Also, my fiance is going to get a titre test tomorrow so he can get to work on his immunizations he may or may not have gotten as a child.
I am finding what this says, to differ slightly from what this says. Which is right?
He is 18. He will either be 18 or 19 at the time of the medical. We want him to get the shots needed as an 18 year old, just in case. This freaks me out more than anything, making sure he has the right shots and proof of them. What an awful time to have things go wrong, once you hit the medical stage! He has no records from the past, his mom didn't get him vaccinated against much, doesn't remember what she did. They tried to find them, came up with nothing. So tomorrow is the test.

Thanks for any help with all of this. It's nice to have finally begun the process (I-129 mailed Friday the 8th!). Its nice to know this could be over by late summer! (well, the K-1 visa part anyway)
garnet80FemaleCanada2010-01-10 18:31:00
CanadaBC to Vancouver for medical & interview, transport questions

Look up a hotel called the Burrard Inn. They are, literally, next door to the Medical Clinic, and they have budget rooms that are well under $60 - $70 per night. The place is very very basic (a step or two down from Motel 6), but they're clean, and VERY conveniently located for getting up at the crack of dawn to get in line for the medical. They are literally 100 feet down the block from the Woking Medical clinic, and about a 15 minute walk from the consulate.

Ooh great tip, thank you very much!
