Hi there! I did go through the process of applying for a good conduct certificate. Below is the email I got from Major Kassim of the Dubai police.

Dear sir ,

Ref to message asking for application form for the good conduct certificate ,if you do send us the
Required documents we will fill the format for you, or it’s better to send it to your friend and she submit it .

Following are the general requirements for a good conduct certificate:

1- Photocopy of your passport showing the U.A.E. residence page

2- Two personal photographs.

3- Records of complete finger-prints, taken by a government agency, and
Dully attested by the U.A.E. embassy.

4- A bank draft of U.S.$35/-, favoring Dubai Police General H/Q., towards
The good conduct certificate fee.

already sent the NBI fingerprint card authenticated by the UAE embassy in Manila to the Dubai Police general headquarters. That's how i got to know that I can not get a clearance because of the absconding report that my employer filed.

If I do not present the Dubai police clearance (i have lost all hope that I will be able to get one), will I be denied because of this? Any idea?

I stayed in Dubai for 10months and left without informing my employer. Just packed my bags and went home.

Now, I can't get a Dubai Police clearance because my employer won't cooperate. My employer did tell me that they didn't file a case against me, they just reported that I was absconding.

Will this be grounds for denial? (Not having my dubai police clearance) I have my NBI clearance from the Phils and I have no record whatsoever.

any input will be welcome. I've been really depressed these past few days. :crying:

Arriving at the POE

She can go through the US line with you. I went through the US line with my then fiance.

Then again, it might also depend on what POE you use. Just ask the immigration/customs staff as you are getting ready to go through the lines. They are generally nice and pleasant enough to allow you to go through the line together and not separate you.

After over a year.... here she comes!

Congratulations!!! A little delayed but things have been crazy on my end so I really haven't had the chance to visit VJ much.

I also had a really bad case of dry skin when I got here. I used Aveeno and it really helped.

Lorna has been here about 4 days and time is flying... She is doing well here in Oregon. I live in the woods and she loves the quietness, birds and squirrels.
A couple of issues....
She is cold until about 70 degrees. so she dreeses warmer than usual right now. I'm sure she will adjust.

All I have is american tv.... she has trouble with the speed of talk sometimes and slang. Again she will adjust and I'm thinking about getting the Filipino channel(I have directv)

One problem is her skin is getting very dry.
We asked around and it seems it could be because of the dryness in the air here compared to PI. I bought her some stuff for her face and one lady recommended drinking a lot of water because her body is used to absorbing the wetness in the air in PI.

If anyone has suggestions on how to remedy Lornas dry skin, please post.

But otherwise its great! She is delightful and easy to be around!!

And YES! It's FANTASTIC to have all the immigration stuff behind us!!!! Thank you LORD!!

I wouldn't advice arriving at 7:30 for a 7:30 interview. Give a little allowance, 7am is fine. The guards will not let people in anyway before the scheduled interview time.

If you are approved to pick up your visa at US Embassy Manila

Hi, I'm not sure how helpful my answer will be.... Visa pickup is usually in the afternoon. I did not get a call nor receive a text message because they told me what day and time I can pick up the visa.

As for the CFO office, they don't have one at the international airport. She has to take the guidance/counseling program first then get the CFO sticker at the CFO office in Manila ( http://www.cfo.gov.ph/mapmanila.jpg ).

Hope everything works out for you guys timing-wise.

Boy, I wanted to run right after they said "you're clear" but my hubby tooks his sweet time walking, saying that he doesn't want us to look guilty. Anyways, we tried to germinate the seed but faied.

We are glad to have gotten the SSN before marriage because it appears it would be more difficult after marriage (unless you still attempted to do the maiden name version).

Not necessarily true. Many applied for their SSN after they are married and had no problem whatsoever. I applied for mine after we were married. And applying in your married name saves you the hassle of doing the name change.

Can I already apply for SSN card before the wedding? Can I apply it while I am still here in manila? I want to have my SSN as soon as possible after arriving in the US so I can start working.
I'd appreciate if you could give me insights on how to apply for the SSN, especially the right timing. Yours is fast if filed only a week.

a K-1 can not apply for SSN until after arriving in USA. After your I-94 expires (90 days), you can not work until you have an EAD, even if you have your SSN. after you marry, you can apply for an EAD with your AOS, but it will take a few months before you receive the EAD.

Thanks. What does EAD means? So it means that even if I already have SSN, I still cannot work without the EAD, right?

EAD is the Employment Authorization Document. And yes, even though you have the SSN, you can not work without the EAD. Until you get your greencard, your SSN card will have the words "valid only with INS work authorization" (or something to that effect).

Timelines for EAD and AOS processing varies.

Have you had measles or chicken pox before? If not, there is one that you do need to get two shots of either one(sorry, can't remember if it's the MMR or the Varicella - i'm getting old). If they gave you two shots in the Phils, then chances are you need another shot for either one AND the TD shot when you get here. I'll look for a copy of my shots to see which one needs two shots and do more research if either one really needs two shots.

Hi all! Got back here in the US @ 1am of the 29th. It was an extra long trip (45hours total, door to door) this time with a lot of long layovers since we had to re-schedule our flight and was on a waiting list.

Our POE was LAX this time and I had no trouble whatsoever going through immigration using my greencard that's in my married name and my passport that's in my maiden name. They didn't even ask for a copy of the marriage certificate. They just input your passport number in their system and I guess it verifies you. But i would still suggest bringing a copy of the marriage certificate, just to be sure.

We had 4 hrs of layover in hongkong, then another 4hrs in LA but we as we boarded the plane for our connecting flight, we were grounded for an hour because there was a dust/sand storm in Phoenix. So, when we finally got to Phoenix, the last boarding call for our connecting flight to Kansas was being announced. We had to run all the way from one concourse to another. Boy, what an experience.

Congratulations to everyone who got their interview dates, their visa approved and got married! Had a lot of catching up to do here.

I don't know what happened here? I am in shock and a little intoxicated. My wife went for a bike ride this morning at 9:30am and never came back. All she took was her money, jewels and passport. I received an email from her cousin in the Philippines 8 hours later that said my wife is safe and for me to move on with my life. I am in shock. I married her in the Phils 18 months ago, she was here 1 day short of two months and she is gone. Day after day she said she was depressed and homesick. The only disagreement we had was yesterday. It was about her $1028.00 cell phone bill where she had been calling the Philippines at $3.00 a minute instead of using our landline international service.

I don't know if I have been used or what. I am just in shock and have nobody to talk with.

I am also going through a difficult time right now. I was visiting with a childhood friend from the Phils. yesterday when I got the call that my mom was rushed to the hospital. After a couple of hours, got the most devastating news of all. My mom didn't make it. I am trying to make arrangements to go back to the Phils as soon as I can book a flight.

I do have some questions... I know I need to book the ticket in my maiden name as that's what's in my passport. But on the return trip, will I have a problem checking in (for the flight from the Philippines and clearing immigration here) with my passport and my greencard having different names?

Any info would be great (especially from the old timers here who still drop by every now and then). I'm sorry to dampen the happy atmosphere here but I didn't know which forum to post this.

At my interview in Vancouver, Canada, the interviewer asked several questions testing the validity of my relationship to my then-fiancee and then asked to see some physical evidence. She looked at one of the many pictures i brought and was satisfied.

Truthfully, it probably depends on which consulate/embassy your interview is at. Some countries scrutinize applicants more than others due to high fraud rates/discrimination (my opinion). Your answer could be better answered if you filled in that damn timeline!

Bring as much as you think is necessary. In other words, bring lots so you disappoint!

Lack of financial docs

You can't go wrong by including too much. In fact, 'too much' may be what the consulate wants. Discuss the negative consequences of not having all the documents at your interview: denial of visa. Letter of employment is needed for the reason you stated: proof of steady employment and proof of salary. Your fiance should have filed taxes last year as he paid taxes on his tuition. You need need substantiated proof to show a valid reason as to why he didn't submit a tax return when it comes time to Adjust. Keep in mind that at the K-1 level, only one sponsor is needed. The petitioner does not need to submit an aff. of support if there is another sponsor. However, he WILL need these documents when you apply to adjust status.

At my interview there was an individual who did not have all the required documents. He was told to come back to the consulate when he had all the documents requested.

The K-1 info gathering, in my opinion, was much easier in comparison to the AOS info gathering. The AOS I-864 seems to be much more scrutinized than the k-1 version. Get as much information from your sponsors' in one shot. Make photocopies of everything. Bring them with you to the States so when it comes time to adjust, everything is there. Asking for htis information twice in one year will just throw more caution into the air. Whatever that means.

Be stern when discussing this stuff with him and good luck!

Visa Arrived Damaged!!!!

Thanks for the quick responses! I was quite shaken this afternoon.

Because of previous problems with my visa process (a lost package (Canada post hates me)) I had a direct number to the K-visa officer at the vancouver consulate (Olivia). She stated that as long as I can't read the papers in the package, everything shoudl be fine. However, because Vancouver airport is my POE in a couple weeks, she recommended that I come in early to exchange the envelope for a new one. I only have one concern: the consulate's security is #######, I wondering how I get in a 1/8 opened package into the consulate with them not insisting I walk outside and open it (I saw one guy flipping out because he had to do it). Oh well. Hopefully they think of that!

Visa Arrived Damaged!!!!

My visa arrived via Canada Post about 15 minutes ago, yay! BUT THE PACKAGE THAT READS: "DO NOT OPEN" has suffered a fall or something on its journey to my doorstep. It has a small (3") gash along the bottom. I don't plan on entering the US for another 2 weeks 5 days. but this has broken my heart! I can only imagine what the customs agent will say to me: did you open this? WHACK, he throws the book at my right temple.

I've emailed the US Consulate and am goign to call them. Do you think this is a big worry. If I can't call them, I don't thikn I can wait until they reply... nooooooooooooooooooooo!

Home made passport photo?

I went to a local walmart with my photographer (step-father) and asked to use their passport backdrop... I was surprised that they let us. I then used one of their instant photo machines and used its ID picture program. It has a digital cropping program that ensures your face is the right width and length in the photo. It cost 2 bucks to print 8 2"x2" pictures. I submitted them with my DS-160 and medical and will do the same for the AOS package.

There's no requirement for the pictures to be printed on official passport paper (the expensive part of the passport pics). Save yourself 30 bucks and buy your fiance/spouse some flowers.

Also, please fill in your timeline as it will help others answer your question(s)!

My question is - why wouldn't we use the Wiki? A pinned thread always becomes old news and no one wants to read 48 pages to get their answer. Even if we pin all the questions at the top, sometimes the answers change and sometimes it may not address the person's situation. Plus people always post in the pinned thread.

Ideally people would go and look at the Canada Wiki and THEN post their questions here.

For example, all of the questions Flames has mentioned above, are answered in the Canada Wiki - except for the Maple Leafs one

If we steered people to the Wiki - when they ask what kind of police check they need - then when they come back with a question that might provide us with information on how to expand it. But we don't, we just keep answering - which is ok, I have no problem with that - i'm just saying I like the wiki because it can be updated at any time.

Maybe instead of a FAQ we just need a nice link at the top of the Canada forum to the wiki page.

A static, but, updateablt FAQ list that won't reach tens or even hundreds of pages is exactly what the Canada forum needs. When I was going through the K-1, it was a pain in the butt using the search engines VJ provides.

ROC while living in another country for +1 year.

It's been a while since I've posted anything on VJ, but I hope you guys can answer some of my questions (I LOVE VJ!).

My wife and I have decided to move to Quebec Canada (my home country) so she can perfect her french (she plans on going on for her PhD in French Lit). To move to Canada, we're going to play role reversal in the sense that I'll be sponsoring her immigration to Canada to become a Canadian PR. I'm very supportive of this, however, I'm very confused in terms of what we do about my cond. perm. residency here in the US as it expires Feb. 2011. We're looking for the easist route possible to re-enter the US in late summer 2011. After researching a bit on VJ and on google, here are some situations I can think of:

1- Just move to Canada after Canadian PR card is received from while living in the US, allow my US Cond PR card expire and go through a CR-1 immigration process or a DCF process, if possible, in March/April 2011 (to have time for it to complete come Fall 2011).
My question is, will the allowing of my PR card to expire affect any future immigration applications? Especially since I plan to re-apply shortly after the first one expires..? Is there a way I can cancel my Cond. Perm residency before we leave so when we apply again in the future, it won't be as confusing?

2 - second option: apply for a 1-131 travel document before we leave to try and secure re-entry into the US when we're done abroad. However, I've read the I-131 will expire when my 2 year cond. PR card expires (Feb. 2011). So, this leads to option 3:

3 - Apply for I-131, try and maintain residency in the US while abroad (investments, banking, mailing address, driver's licenses, anything else that may provide evidence for US domicle while abroad), apply for Removal of conditions before my cond. PR card expires (apply for this in the US but list our Canadian address as place of residence and list out US address as mailing address), live in Canada on the I-751c extention, if given, and then move back in fall 2011. This is confusing. I read another post that discussed a similar situation (here)

But as I said before, we're looking for the easiest route! It would be nice to keep residency, but I'm afraid it might be difficult to prove we're still residents of the US since my wife will be getting her permanent residency for Canada...

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!
