K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSOMEONE PLEASE HELP ANSWER THIS Q...
Glad you got your question answered, but as a side note, please don't post in ALL caps...it generally "means" yelling in the Internet and personally I think it is also harder to read too. Just a courtesy smile.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 or K-3, which would be best?
Well I can tell you that if you marry while in the U.S. on a visitor's visa, that pretty much rules out ANY thought of using K-1 visa method.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresService centers slow downs
I'm thinking there are two different issues going on here. It is unlikely anyone can definitely prove/disprove the USCIS using "our" adjudicators at VSC & CSC to process these visas as well. Perhaps they hired temporary help or maybe those are just part of the regular flow of paperwork coming across their desk. No one can say for sure unless they have a way to find that out. That being said, the opinions regarding priority can be freely stated by those who feel to express them, however, others shouldn't take them as anything more but a person's opinion. We are all able to do so and I think people's criticism and feelings towards the USCIS is being misconstrued into facts, when they aren't and weren't intended to be either.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLong-form and police check - Canada
That link was helpful, except she lives in Nova Scotia. However, I was able to send her here and she's taking care of that.

So its a Canada-wide background check, thats it...thats all she needs to say? And a printout or form will be given to her afterwards?

One other question while I'm thinking of it, what are the general accepted forms of evidence for I-134? I only ask because I was hoping for those that have made it through the interview, especially canadians, and what they brought.

I know that this sticky is helpful, but just want some further clarification.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLong-form and police check - Canada
After some searching via Google and the board's search function, I still have a couple questions.

Danielle said when she went to her local RCMP office and ask for a police check or name check, they looked at her
as though she had 3 heads. The lady seemed to have no idea what she was talking about at all. She even mentioned
to her that it was for a visa. The only thing they do is criminal background checks. So whats the deal?

She also has swore up and down that the only birth certificate she or her parents have are the small wallet-size ones.
I told her that Google says you can request of the Records Office or something like that, a "long-form" certificate. Is
that true and accurate? Any more help on that would be appreciated.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-134 Employment...
I was about to get my letter of employment too. I feel bad because I was doing so well with getting all the items I needed to send to her prepared.
Then this happens and I am left wondering what to do. I suppose that with my father's sponsorship and plenty of supporting evidence that they will
hopefully not look down upon my lack of current employment. I can only imagine that by the time she is going to the interview, I will have found
another job by then.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-134 Employment...
I am just about to wrap up getting my papers together to send off to Danielle and I have come to a roadblock. I just recently got laid off at the car
dealership I worked at. I was only a valet, but it was making ends meet. Now my father has agreed to be my co-sponsor and has provided all the
evidence and proofs that I need and he is well past the minimum income.

Will the lack of current employment likely hurt our situation? I would hate to wait to send her the paperwork until I have a job, which could be next
week or next month at this rate. I know the P3 is about to arrive for her and that she has time to send it back, I just don't want to delay this process
any more than necessary. I'm searching high and low for a job that will make ends meet for our situation, but alas nothing so far.

Please advise. I have searched and I would prefer some input on the situation due to some threads being from a few years back.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPassport photos
The hard I part I see with passport photos is that they have to be JUST right. A little off to the side, a hair too big, and you're out.

I have photoshop, I suppose I should find a good candidate picture and widdle it down to Passport photo standards. They don't have to be photo quality do they? Just on photo-style paper?

Some useful links for Photoshopers:

That would be a professional level report, considering the variables involved.

Just think of the database that would have to crosscheck these things:
K1/K3 Visa issued in state ___
Originating country ___
Arrival state ___
Male ___
Female ___
Age ___
___
___

I would imagine that such a list exists.

Marriage License Requirements of the 50 states

Seems to have all the information everyone would be looking for at this point.

They even break down the counties within the states and give you the contact # to reach them and the State laws/regulations on what you need in order to get the license, costs, etc.

I was not trying to argue with you at all. I hope that wasn't the way you took my reply.

In response to the people seeking information out, you may or may not have noticed that people will ask questions regarding information that is readily posted in the guides/faq section. I'm not saying people won't read it and find it useful, just that your "intention" of people searching for this post/info will probably not work as intended. Good effort though, it doesn't hurt to try.

Again, I wasn't trying to begin an arguement with you. Hope all is well smile.gif

I have two feelings about this

1) Good info and it helps that it is seperated clearly and logically

but

2) It is considered VERY lengthy post

Is there an actual point to your post rather than just a straight copy and paste??? I'm all for helping people, but just blindly posting what any of us could find using Google seems spammy to me. Just my thought.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHow many colors for the post interview slips and what do they mean?

Using the search , I found a post from mid-2007 stating one member encountered this:

Pink - Approval
Blue - Request for more information
Green - Administrative Review

However, other people found that Green was for an approval in some cases. Another post stated that Pink or Blue were Administrative Review slips. Still, others found that they were approved with no paper at all. I think it is based on the embassy and their own internal wishes, not some universal color-coded system. However, that was mid-2007, so perhaps things have changed since then.

2) when the DS-230 form is submitted for the same CR-1 visa, should I check the "YES" box at the end of the form which says:
"Do you want the Social Security Administration to assign you an SSN (and issue a card) or issue you a new card (if you have an SSN)? You must answer "Yes" to this question and to the "Consent To Disclosure" in order to receive an SSN and/or card."

I say, yes, that will make it possible to get the SSN card as soon as possible (although it will be a special social security number beginning with 729 thru 733, if that matters to you). However, that being said, do not sit at home waiting for the SS card for very long after arriving in the U.S. Go into the SS office 5-10 days after you arrive with her passport and birth & marriage certificates (with translations), fill out Form SS-5, and for the question "Have you ever applied for or received a social security number before?", check "I Don't Know." They will check the computer to see if the SS card has already been processed, and if not, process your SS-5 number application then and there.

As many have pointed out from various experiences, its better to be prepared and NOT need it, rather than the other possibility. Think of the scrapbook as a keepsake from your efforts of immigration and moving. Don't just toss it aside as if it were a waste. Sorry to hear that the medical expenses were high, but I guess its just another hurdle to jump in order to be with your loved one. We all are making sacrifices, glad to hear yours were worth the trouble.

Done the Disney thing and kind of tight on cash at the moment, so chances are that idea is out. However, you are definitely right, there are a # of good restaurants down that way.

I think the idea of doing everyday things together is probably the simplest and most useful way to get adjusted to living together down the road. I know you can't prevent everything,
but helping the adjusting phase for both of us go smoothly would be a wonderful thing.

RE: Service center question

If you go to www.uscis.gov and look for the Office Locator using zip code and type 32765, it will reply with the Texas Service Center. Please try it and make sure I'm not crazy smile.gif

Hmm, well when I get the forms from her...I guess I could always call and confirm, but then again if their website says two different things, I imagine the phone answerer will likely be just as confused.

I've always been curious about the area up there. Quite a few college classmates that grew up in central FL lived up that way, so something must be nice wink.gif I'll check it out when I get the chance.

Cuddling is always a good thing to do, no matter if its day or night. I definitely agree with that.

I think driving around and letting her explore and pick some places she likes would be a good idea as someone pointed out. It helps her feel out what kind of neighborhood and location we'd both want in a place. I'm done with the college atmosphere, seeing as I live <1mile from it. Any local couples think Sanford or maybe something over on the west side of the city might suit us?

P.S. Since no one replied to it in the service centers forum, can someone please set the record straight for me when I'm ready to submit soon...

Park Ave. in Winter Park is certainly a good idea...lots of cafes and window shopping. Good call!

Maybe I asked my question wrong, but regardless, thats all great advice that we always follow when we are together.

I'm just trying to ease the process when it comes so its not such an abrupt thing together. And no, I most likely won't
be in this apartment when she moves, so we can't really decide on decorating till later on. Right now I'm just thinking
of showing her the points of interest one afternoon, kind of what I did when I first moved to Orlando. Basically, I just
want her to feel comfortable so that everything isn't so "foreign" to her and she has a basic lay of the land.

I won't have much free time due to working, but wanted to get some ideas for her visit (2 weeks~) to
get her more exposed to living here in the not too distant future.

Some suggestions I've come up with from reading the Canada forum (some humourous, some literal):

- Take her to Target
- Take her to Cold Stone
- Pay $6.50 for matinee, rather than $10+
- See a spring training baseball game
- Check out the outlet malls (Orlando has two popular ones)
- Any other ideas?

Thats what we've decided on. I've seen the high/low side of approvals lately and I figure not getting my hopes for anything sooner than November is safe considering the circumstances. Thats 7 months or so from now, which leaves time for waiting, mailing, timing, etc. I'm not making any concrete plans just yet, but tentatively considering things for close to the end of the year.

On Q#10 on I-129F regarding citizenship, I and my parents, grandparents, etc are all born here, so do I just mark "Birth in the U.S." and move onto the next question? The part that gives me pause is the "Obtained a citizenship certificate" right below that.

Indeed...all the Canucks are moving as far south as possible eh? wink.gif

I usually fly United because I've had good (no lost luggage, complaints, etc) experiences with them, however, I tend to fly Delta as well because I'm enrolled in Skymiles. I hadn't considered Southwest. I try to avoid Boston airport because of the problems she and I have had with getting stuck there.

Chances are I might either be living still here in Orlando or in West Palm Beach come time for her to move, so I'll certainly keep everyone up to date.
