K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWaiting for NOA2 - driving me crazy!!!
QUOTE (menina @ Jul 10 2009, 02:43 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Don´t worry. I feel the same way. It makes me feel better to hear someone else complaining instead of myself. I spent the whole day doing the forms for our interview--didn´t even leave the house. It is so depressing to check each day and find that almost 4 months later they still cannot be bothered to put our case online. I am trying to be hopeful after seeing some of the March people approved, but it seems like they have virtually stopped with approvals again. It would appear they are going backwards and cleaning up some of the cases that were left from earlier. I am happy for those people being approved, but it seems like everytime we get close, they stop again. (ie:processing alot of the Feb people in under a month and then stopping for nearly 2 months with fiance visas). Good luck to everyone. I am ready to smash my computer so I won´t be tempted to check every day.

Hello i just joined this site. i am looking for some understanding of how the timeline works and how do i read it. how do i read it? is it the date that appears does that mean that is the date of when someone submitted the paperwork in comparison to todays date?
for instance, it says:

petitions for NOA1 dates as follows are currently being processed:
i-129F for k-1 visa
csc: april 19, 2009
vsc: march 3, 2009

what does this exactly mean? does it mean if i submitted my forms on april 19, 2009 i should be expecting any day a letter to proceed with the process? YES
i have much to learn and sometimes i just feel overwhelmed by this process. it just seems scary and being apart from my fiance sucks because she is such a support in my life, but i know this is a process we need to go through in order to make it together.

also, can she live her during the process of this paperwork because she does have a travel visa? guides6ly.gif

thank you all for your help. i am grateful to God that i found this support group for this process. thank you all again.

i'm considering actually taking a break from the VJ site...aside from the fact it is making me very OCD with timelines etc..i just get depressed when i see april and may filers getting approved and i get angry at uscis for it and then get grumpy at my family. no touches no rfe nothing..and there are a few march filers who are still clueless about where there petition is with no info available to them and the same old responses to wait til 6 months have passed.

its going to be 5 months soon for me as well..being without my sweetie for this long..it feels almost like just a friendship, its getting harder to feel connected if that makes any sense and i know it's not his fault that we are still waiting but we tend to get irritated easier and argue over stupid little things..and that alone breaks my heart sad.gif i just really miss snuggling in his warm arms and feeling safe and secure sad.gif

Has anyone hired a lawyer to handle your k1 visa case? And do you have a better chance of success if you do hire a lawyer that deals with k1 visas?

We did not use an attorney. It seemed like a lot if work at first, but after using the guides and the example forms on VisaJourney; its not at all hard, perhaps time consuming and a little stressful. Hiring an attorney only to have to provide him exactly the same information the Consulate is asking for, well, its a waste of money and will do ZERO to speed the process up. Anyone that tells you they have connections at the Embassies in my opinion is full of it. Outside of legal issues that may exist, I suggest trying it yourself and spend your money on your SO. Good Luck on your Journey.

I'm a Canadian citizen and am going to be getting married to an American. I've been doing a ton of research, and the K1 guide has been very helpful.

There are still a few questions I have, though, and was wondering if anyone could give me some insight.

1. On the biographical information form, it has a box regarding a "case number". Am I supposed to fill this in? We haven't filed anything yet, so I have no case number to speak of. - on mine, I put NONE (see the example forms)

2. My fiance lives in New York. Does anyone know the corresponding processing center? I think I've read it was Texas. Vermont or California. Look here:Direct Filing Addresses for Form I-129F, Petition for Alien Fiancé(e)

3. Having said that, I've read online that you cannot submit the 1-129F and associated paperwork by mail to the processing center in New York, New York. Is this true? (Pretty stupid if it is, I have to say). YES, IT IS TRUE. YOU CAN ONLY SUBMIT TO CALIFORNIA OR VERMONT (check the link above)

4. My fiance is working a part time job, and we'll be staying at his parents house. He's also thinking of quitting his job... which I have advised against. If he did decide to quit, though, after the paperwork was started, would this cause problems? he might need cosponsor, than

5. Does anyone know how long it really takes to process the fiance paperwork? I call myself the "Paperwork Queen" -- I'm partial power of attorney for my dad tongue.gif -- and I'm ready to do the work, just scared it will take 9 months like I've heard.' we waited for NOA2 4 months, some got it in less time, and some waited much longer, or still are waiting - NOBODY KNOWS

I can't really think of anything else right now, any input on any of the questions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Ei guys, just a clarification.
Do you really have to write on a separate sheet for this? Or is it okay to make it brief and just write it in the space for this question in the form I-129F?

Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSocial security number required for marriage license?

My fiance has her K-1 visa stamped in her passport and she'll be arriving in NY in November. We're planning on going to the city office to get the marriage license the day she arrives so I don't have to take an extra day off of work. - YOU CAN DO IT

Will we be able to get a marriage license with her passport and her birth certificate translated into English? -YES Will she need a social security number first? -NO
Read here: Getting Married in New York State

I've read that we would need to wait about 2 weeks before we could even apply for a SS# and then it would take another week or two to actually get the card. Is this accurate?
If we don't need to get her a SS# in order to obtain the marriage license, when should we apply for her SS#? After the AoS is approved and the employment authorization is approved? You don't have to wait for AOS. Read here: When should we apply for Social Security? and here: Step-by-Step Guide to getting a Social Security Number (SSN)

Thanks for any help.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhen should we apply for Social Security?

Thank you guys. What should we bring with us to social security office? I heard some people complaining that they have been told at SS office K-1'ers are not eligible for Social Security until AOS.

Step-by-Step Guide to getting a Social Security Number (SSN):
"...Print the following webpage out (K-1 Visa Holder Only); pay attention to section C:
>> RM 00203.500

...To apply for a SSN you will need to go to your local SSA office and bring the documents below. These documents are proof of your eligibility to file for a SSN:

  • The SS-5 form you downloaded and filled out (they have some at the office if you forget).
  • your Passport (with the K-1 Visa in it)
  • your valid I-94
  • another form of valid ID (as defined in the SS-5 instructions)
  • You should also bring the document RM 00203.500 that you printed out

Make sure to bring all the documents above because some offices have staff that are not aware that a K-1 Visa Holder is eligible to file for a SSN. A friendly reminder is a nice thing to have -- if not you could be turned away incorrectly."

I am nearly on the same ship as you. I am going to meet Eve in March and I was planning on taking all my forms when I go. I am planning on taking everything she will need for her interview, my tax returns, my copies of birth certificate and passport pictures. We were planning on taking a day or so getting all that she would need together while I am there. I have a couple of questions also, #1 when making copies of tax returns can I black out ss# and #2 is how do they get email or text # for updates, I don't see place on 129f to put this info or am I just overlooking this space. Thanks and good luck to both of you.

#2- for e-notification you need the form G-1145

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNew Here

Hello Everyone

My finace and I are preparing the last of our paperwork to be filled and we have a couple of Questions we can not seem to find the answers to. The first one is that I am divorced and I am not certain if I need to include a copy of my marriage licence to go with the divorce decree to prove name changes. And the second one is that on the G-325A form there is a line regarding last occupation abroad if not shown above, He has never worked in any other country than his birth one which is Australia. If anything what should we put in that line ?

Thanks to anyone who may know the answers to our question.

Welcome to Visa Journey!

  • you don't need to include marriage license, just your divorce decree - G-325A and I-129F, both have a part "Other Names Used", so it will show the name change.
  • "last occupation abroad if not shown above" - nothing or N/A
Here is the link to the example forms, it may be helpful to you, and the guides, too.

Good luck on your journey!
