Oh and does anyone have any advice about what we can start to prepare in advance now? Ie - have ready birth certificates etc... We want to avoid discovering we need stuff later, so we really want to be prepared.

Thankyou!

Australia and New ZealandAustralian Police Certificate current processing time?
Thanks riss!

I have been calling the AFP for 3 weeks now, and they are STILL processing it! It has been over 3 months now and I am getting a little frustrated and worried that it may hold up my entire immigration process.

Hope it is all going smoothly and quickly for you :)

Australia and New ZealandAustralian Police Certificate current processing time?

Applicants who are in Australia get their police certificate through their state police department, which is normally much faster than through Australian Federal Police. Only those outside Australia need to go through the AFP.

Thanks Lainie B !
~ I forgot to say that the 2 - 3 month wait for a police check was for applicants outside Australia.

Australia and New ZealandAustralian Police Certificate current processing time?
Thank you so much riss, that is very kind of you! I really appreciate the offer...
I actually phoned them first thing last night when they opened at 8AM Canberra time, was 9th in the queue, but got to talk to someone after 15 minutes. She said that because my police check included a fingerprint check, which is required for CR-1 visa, it takes a long time and was nearing completion - 2 and 1/2 months after I had sent it in!

I will call back next week to see how it is progressing, and for the record, please, anyone who is doing their I-130 petition now and who needs an Australian Police check - allow at least 2 months for processing WITH fingerprints. It it taking a long time!

Good Luck :)

Australia and New ZealandAustralian Police Certificate current processing time?
Hi there!

I am at the NVC stage for my CR-1 immigration visa.
I sent off for my Australian police certificate over 2 months ago, and I know they are experiencing delays at the moment but I am starting to wonder if I will ever receive it or if it has been lost on its way back here to South Africa. I sent it registered, and know that it got to Australia, and I have sent 2 emails to the AFP because the phone queue is just too long at the moment there, but no response.

Has anyone obtained their Australian police certificate recently who may be able to help me with this?

Thank you so much!

Australia and New ZealandAustralian police Certificate
I am a bit confused..

I am also getting an Australian Police certificate for my CR-1 visa, and contacted the NVC in May of this year to ask if I need fingerprint checks also and they said no.

According to the Australian Federal Police website:
Fingerprint checks

"Fingerprint checks may only be conducted where there is a legal or regulatory requirement for such a check to be conducted."

So, it appears that it is not a requirement to get fingerprint checks in addition to the name check?

Thank you very much for your feedback Richard, and congratulations on receiving your CR1 visa!

Hopefully it will not take too long for my process, as I have decided against travelling to see my husband before hand lest it jeopardise our petition.

Thank you MNyarai for your great reply!

It seems like you had a pretty smooth processing experience with the Johannesburg Consulate, which gives me a lot of hope.
I have booked an appointment to get my B1 / B2 visitor visa, and will just see how that goes, if I get it I do realise that at the POA I could still be turned away. It is worth a try, though, as I have plenty of evidence to show that my intentions are to return home while my petition is being processed.

I am quite amazed that your process took only 6 months to complete, that is most encouraging!

I am doing everything I can to organise all my information such as police certificates, vaccinations, and my husband's tax return information but what I am confused about now is what exactly happens after we recieved the NOA 1? Will I received further instructions in the mail? Or will he as the Petitioner?
The NOA1 letter he received in the mail simply said the petition had been received by them and was being processed...

Thank you so much again!

Thanks for your reply Mrs. Sterling

I think I will be fine entering the U.S as I have visited many times before, and have plenty of evidence to show my ties to S.A. I have decided to just play it by ear, and make sure my ticket is very flexible in case I need to hurry home for the interview and medical. I am currently organising my police certificates etc, and understand that the process may take some time, depending on other factors of course...

How is your application going?
~ I would be happy to share any experiences along the way with you, and thanks again for your response :)

Hi to any South Africans who may be able to share their CR-1 visa experiences with me.

I am at the initial review stage of my visa application, which was initiated on May 21st 2012 and has been transferred to the California Service Centre.

I would very much like to visit my husband in September of this year, and then travel back for the interview at the Johannesburg consulate when they let me know it is time, but am not sure how much notice they give you for your interview and medical exam. Can anyone tell me how much notice they got for the interview? Did they set the final date, or could you?

How long did it take for others out there from the time of submitting their I-130 until their actual interview? I am not sure if going to America in September is cutting it a bit fine...it seems there is a 6 month processing time, but I would like to hear others' experiences.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAm I allowed to marry a U.S citizen on a tourist visa and then go home?
Thanks for your help Canadian Wife!

I now understand that the CR-1 visa is more appropriate, faster and more efficient but my concern is that I will not be allowed to visit my husband after we are married whilst this particular visa is pending?

I would be using an ESTA visa-waiver on my Irish passport...

thanks again!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAm I allowed to marry a U.S citizen on a tourist visa and then go home?
Thanks Ruffie - I did not know that the K-3 no longer exists!

~ All I am worried about is that the customs officials may give me a hard time on entering the U.S if they see I am staying for 3 months, and am going to be with my boyfriend. Will they get suspicious and deny me entry...?!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAm I allowed to marry a U.S citizen on a tourist visa and then go home?
All I want to do, in good faith, is to marry my long term boyfriend of 3 years. I intend to stay on my tourist visa for my allotted 3 months with him, and then return to my home country to continue on to apply for my Spousal visa K-3.

Will I have any problems doing this? I will obviously have a return air ticket, and it is NOT my intention at all to stay on in America and change my status to applying for a green card as I have a business back home and many things to take care of before i wish to fully immigrate to America.

Apart from being the love of my life and the man I wish to marry, my boyfriend is a devout Catholic, so we need to get married if I am to physically stay with him, as I cannot afford to stay in a motel for the entire time.

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated, as I know my intentions are correct, I am just worried there may be issues with what I want to do!

thanks!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportsmay 2012 FILERS FOR I-130
We filed our I-130 on May 18th, and got our NOA1 dated May 21st.

I tried to see if I could get a tourist visa on my South African passport to visit my husband in Iowa whilst it was pending but was denied, of course :(
I asked if I could enter on the VWP with my Irish passport but the consular officer at Johannesburg said it was best not to try, as I may be turned away at POE. He said just to wait it out...

We are very weary of having a long distance relationship - but all does unfold as it should, so we are being philosophical at this point that it will all be worth it in the end.

Nice to know you all- and best wishes for everyone's journey! Let us keep one another posted...
