There are no medical examiners in Cape Town.

The medical instructions are included in the appointment letter. All medical exams must be performed by a panel physician pre-approved by the Consulate General in Johannesburg. http://southafrica.u...sas/medical.pdf Hope this helps.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussioninterview and medical in Johannesburg
Congratulations kicking.gif

Yes, your fiance will have his medical in Johannesburg and interview at the Johanneburg Consulate as this is the consulate that covers South Africa and the neighbouring countries including Lesotho.
The medical is aproximately R750 excluding any vaccinations he might require.

As far as I've seen on the South African embassy site, still only doctors in Johannesburg and Durban.

Thank you all for your input. star_smile.gif
I think I will apply for a new one here in SA as it only take 6 weeks which will give me enough time. If I go the replacement passport route instead of renewal, I will pay a bit more, but will then be able to keep my current passport for 'just in case VSC speeds up' (Thanks for the tip on turning in current passport HappyNathy good.gif )

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPassport Expiry
The consulate has told me my passport needs to be valid for 6 months after the date of visa issue.
If all goes well, Im hoping to have my visa by August the latest. My passport expires in 11/2010. Would there be a need to renew my passport for any reason?

From what I gather, my life will be stamped and stuck in my passport.
So do I renew now before my visa is issued or will it be fine as is.

Am I just having a 'special stress moment' here? helpsmilie.gif

Take a deep breath and start breathing again.

Then, take Zee Bee's advice.

Go to the interview, explain that you made an error when submitting your check list and it will be dealt with. With your SO coming from Cape Town to Johannesburg for the interview, see if he cant at least get an appointment for the medical scheduled for Monday right after the interview, it's close enough, not like you have to drive across town and have the doctor submit the results to the consulate if he will.

Otherwise, try reschedule your appointment

I'd rather double check with the consulate. Im almost sure you need to have the appointment confirmation letter for the consulate in Johannesburg as they check that before they allow you into the building.

Good luck good.gif

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionINTERVIEW???? PLEASE TELL ME!
People start standing que outside the Consulate from around 7am. They try get there first thing in the morning to miss the peak hour traffic and to get into the que which can go about two blocks up the road, and probably also to try get in earlier (which doesnt work, you just get sent to the back of the que if you're too early for your appointment). If you're there by 11am you should be fine. By that time most people are already in the building and there are no que's outside. If your SO is there very early, there's a mall right across the road where he can have a cuppa instead of standing out in the cold. (it will be overcast and quite cool in Jo'burg tomorrow with possible rain)

Hello Everyone

My name is KJ, Im South African and my Fiance is American , Im new on here and we have just filed our K1 Visa on the 8th of April. The case is showing up on the system as filed and pending ! And that something was done on it on the 12th of April, since then nothing shows up online. What happens next , I feel like Im sitting on edge here I have no clue what happens really in the next few months apart from the fact that Im not allowed to visit the man I love in the USA , and that out processing time is approx 6 months , he has just left here after visiting me again for 2 weeks and that is the worst pain. Please can someone explain the procedure to us. Thank you smile.gif

Welcome to VJ KJ, the best place you could be right now.
I'm also from South Africa, and have just made it through the first part of the journey to my NOA2.

S.IS.Hwang is spot on with guidelines. Im just not so sure about the timeline from NVC to Consulate stage though.
NVC sent my case to the consulate on 14 April already, I've managed to track it with DHL. It landed in SA on 16 April and has been scanned every morning since then to the status 'shipment on hold'...and I thought waiting for my NOA2 was frustrating, but this just beats it!

Best of luck with your journey, and may it be a smooth one star_smile.gif

My son will also be a K2 to follow after his final year at school. I find there is very little confirmed guides and not nearly enough info anywhere, so I'm taking in every bit of advice possible from VJ

You are correct. There seems to be little direct information about K-2s. The consulate has a nice guide for K-1s and nothing for K-2s which have different needs, depending on age etc. And as I found out, emailing them is not alwasy the answer as they responded to me incorrectly TWICE, fisr not listing a police certificate at all and then saying he didn't need one from Russia. If he was under 16 this would be true and apparentely they didn't read that part of my letter.

There was also a requirement I write an "acceptance letter" for him, "accepting him" into the USA (I did not do this for his younger brother who was issued a K-2 at the same time as my wife). I also completed a form DS-157 for him which is NOT included in their list of documents for a K-2 and NOT told to me on the telephone, I happened to learn this while listening to the consulate's message while "on hold". Bottom line, I learned a lot in my phone call and avoided a lot of problems.

Their message says a DS-157 is required of ALL male visa applicants over age 16. So...use all the resources you can. Now I will not be surprised if they say he doesn't need the DS-157, but at least it is done.

Interesting point you've made there about the "acceptance letter", something I have not seen anywhere else. I guess all Consulates are different in what they require, but Im a firm believer in having as much as possible whether it's needed or not, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Quick question -

I have basically everything that we will need for the interview, but I was wondering how we should present these papers and documents. For the petition we used ACCO fasteners, for the interview should we just put everything in a big folder? I'm assuming it shouldn't be fastened so that the interviewer will be able to look through the papers more easily?

Any answers or ideas?

Thanks.

Correct assumption. I used an expandable 13 pocket folder (nothing special about 13 pockets, they had 5, 13, and 27) I put the little tabs in place to label each document. As they ask for the documents, just take out the appropriate one and hand it through the window. No need for any fasteners of any type and, of course, they will assemble it into their file as they choose. Any effort to bind or fasten the documents together will be wasted effort as you will immediately be made to take it apart and give it to them as they choose.

You don't even need this much, really. Putting everything into a manilla folder will work and then just look through the stack as they ask for the information. As long as everything makes it there, you will be OK

The 13 pocket expandable folder has worked wonders for me so far. As and when I get new documents, photos or evidence I just slot it in under the correct label, so by the time I go for my interview next month I will have everything in its place.

Hi There, I am Siona, Please let me know what the process is for a k1 visa from southafrica american embassy. My boyfriend has filled a k1 in the states.... what is the process for me nuw ?

Thank You

Welcome to VJ Siona
Your boyfriend would have filed the I-129F petition not the K1. The K1 is the visa that is approved and issued in SA once the petition has been approved by USCIS.
Have you read the guides at the top of the page?
South Africa is no different to other countries as far as the procedure goes.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionSOUTH AFRICA!
South Africans that reside, work, or travel abroad require Police Clearance Certificates for purposes such as residence permission, court requirements, or securing employment. A Police Clearance is obtained by lodging a set of finger prints at the CRC where upon a Police Clearance Certificate is issued which indicates if the individual has a criminal record. Fingerprints are compared to the SAPS criminal record database. If a criminal record is recorded, the criminal record will be indicated on the Police Clearance or Police Clearance Certificate. South African Police Clearances are only issued by the CRIMINAL RECORD CENTRE in Pretoria. Police Clearance Certificates are valid for a period of 12 months. Police Clearances will only be re-issued within 6 months of the issue of the Police Clearance Certificate and the re-issued Police Clearance will only be valid for the remainder of the 12 months from the issue of the initial Police Clearance Certificate.
