Effective immediately, all K visa applicants are required to complete the DS-160 Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application. The DS-160 replaces forms DS-156, DS-156K, and DS-230.

For K visa cases already in process at a U.S. embassy or consulate, the DS-160 is not required when, prior to October 7, 2013, one of the following situations exist:
The K visa applicant is already scheduled for an interview.
The K visa applicant has already been interviewed and has been requested to submit additional documentation or is pending administrative processing.
The K visa applicant has already submitted a valid, signed, unexpired DS-156, DS-156K and/or DS-230 or received instructions to do so.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS-160, DS-260 and DS-230

Hey all (Jamaica) VJers going for K-1 I really need some clarification on this one.

Are we supposed to fill out DS-260, DS-160, DS-230 and/or which, if any, combination of the three. I am getting conflicting responses and with all of the recent changes and updates on the guides, embassy websites and responses I have been reading that people have been getting from the embassy, I can?t seem to get a clear cut answer.

I was just going to fill out all three until I got to the ?pick your relationship to the petitioner? section on the DS-260 and ?fiancé? was not an option. Also, I have heard that the Kingston embassy won?t even respond to you until you submit the DS-260. Can I request packet 3 (instruction packet) be emailed to me BEFORE I submit any forms in order to obtain clarification from the source?

If anyone has recently dealt with this (preferably in Jamaica) your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

this is the response i got after emailing them asking about all 3 forms.oh and also i already email them a complete copy of DS230 part 1 and got a reply yesterday that they are in receipt of my DS230.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionK1 Interview and obtaining marriage certificates for previous marriages

Hello Good day to y'll

I think i might have a problem.I was going over packet 3 and all the instructions that the embassy had sent me,i saw that they are requesting both fiance and fiancee to submit marriage certificate and divorces at the time of interview. This is what it said below:

Marriage Certificate: Obtain one certified copy (if you or your fiance/fiancee were married previously) of your marriage certificate or certificates, and one certified copy of the divorce or death certificate to prove dissolution of any marriage.

I have a copy of my marriage certificate as well as my divorce decree. My fiance is now divorced,he no longer has a copy of his marriage certificate and he won't be able to obtain a copy of the marriage certificate now that he's divorced.I am so confuse as what to do now.i know that not having everything they request can delay the process and i am trying to avoid that.so what do i do now, should i be worried?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHow does the US Embassy reject you?

Moving this to embassy consulate forum.

I have a friend that spent a couple frustrating months for the consulate in China to get around to reviewing the results of an DNA test.

Just because you may know a consulate has received results does not mean they reviewed them, they may sit in a mail room or in a file until the immigrations officer gets back to your case.

I understand what you are saying, but what I was wondering is how they normally reject applicants. Do they really mail a letter through the Postal Service? I find that to be very impersonal. I have no idea how this Embassy do their work but one would assume that they would reject you to your face. The mail service in Jamaica is way poor, even if they were to register the mail that is also unreliable. Trust me I have had some strange instances with the Postal Service in my country. The NVC does not trust any other mail service but their own in the USA. We just find this strange.

Thanks for your reply though. Please let me know if you find out anything that I could pass on to my friend. Thanks again.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHow does the US Embassy reject you?
Hi guys,

Good day to you all.

My question is for someone who wanted some answers but I told her I know the best place to get the answers to her questions. Just exactly how does the US Embassy in Kingston reject you? She got a mail in her e-mail that said that she should expect a letter in the mail within the next two weeks. She recently did an Interview and was told to get a DNA test done. Then she has been e-mailing the Embassy asking them how soon she would be contacted because they received the results over three weeks ago. This was their response to her query.

Anyone have any ideas? We find it very unusual for the Embassy to be using the Postal Service in Jamaica which cannot be trusted. Any information they are sending is very confidential. Just wondering what you guys think based on your experiences and great knowledge. Thanks guys.

Sounds like a matter of a misplaced file. I'm surprised your congressman isn't more aggressive to get things moving with your file since you're outside the normal processing time. I hope you hear something soon.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionNeed advice!

Hello fellow vj'ers! :D Um, i have an interview date set for January 27 at the US embassy in Bucharest, Romania!:) from what i read over here and heard from people, it's a relatively easy consulate and i don't think there will be any problems with our interview and the outcome of it! :) we have prepared everything related to documents, evidence, Affidavit of Support..we organized them as best and efficient as we could. Neither me nor my fiancé have been married before, filled any other petition. no children involved..he came to visit me in May 2010 and September 2010 more than 2 weeks each time and we can't wait to be able to marry and start our life together. I am optimistic about the interview and i'll be honest about everything they want to know. that's the best strategy, i think. My fiancé wants to buy the plane ticket for me as soon as possible and he mentioned getting a plane ticket for February 4. My question is, did any of you who went through this kind of interview get a plane ticket before the visa was issued? Would that be a problem for us if we choose to do that? We want to be together as soon as possible after the interview, but somehow we're trying not to pay a loooot of money for the plane ticket. Those of you willing to help, please do! :) Thank you!

Sometimes it takes a while before you get the visa in hand. If i were in your shoe I would wait until I have the visa in hand before purchasing a ticket. Remember you can pick up you visa today and buy a ticket for tomorrow. Goodluck

US Citizenship General DiscussionRe: citizenship interview

I don't know if this helps but my friend applied for is citizenship a few years ago and ran into the same problem. My friend was ask to provide receipts of child support payments which he didn't have because he paid his baby mothers with cash anyways my friend wasn't able to provide receipts of child support payments and they deny him his citizenship even though both of his baby mothers wrote letters stating that he supported his kids and that he was a good father. The CO did not want to see any letter they wanted to see receipts.

I have another friend who applied for her citizenship and she was denied also because the CO wanted receipts to prove that she was supporting her kids back in Guyana. She couldn't produce any receipts at the time because she send money back home mostly with family members who were going for visit. She alway have some family member traveling back to Guyana but anyway her mother is the one that takes cares of her children back home. Her mother wrote a letter and had it notarized through an attorney and they still denied her petition saying that was not enough to prove that she takes care of her kids. All I'm saying is your husband receipts should be enough because immigration didn't want to see letters in both of my friend cases they wanted to see hard core evidence like receipts. Good luck!

Thanks for sharing. Hoping for the best.
