Did I just repeat myself, no, not me.

You may wish to look at this translator, http://imtranslator.com/default.asp

It has a say it feature I find very helpful, it will say in English or Russian. I have not needed the English say it feature but the Russian seems pretty accurate. It will even pronounce words it can not translate, such as last names, pretty cool

Yes, indeed welcome to the Russian forum;

In addition to the wealth of information here in this side of the VJ forum, there is multiple talks about Russian/American interaction. You will learn much during your visits to your sweetheart but you will really learn the nuts and bolts of interaction here on the forum. You can only learn so much during a week visit; members here are living day to day with Russian brides. Also, take into consideration that each member is an individual, some of us a bit in left field and some of us a bit in right field, very few of us in the center.

Over time, you will make many friends on the Russian forum; few you will ever meet but they will still be valued friends. We are your new family, if you choose to accept us. Good luck in your process. Follow the guides for filing the K1 step by step, check everything multiple times; you do not want a RFE for a stupid mistake.

I would not consider Moscow like most of Russia. I have been from the West to the East; from the north to the south. No way I would ever live in Moscow. If I could get suitable employment and provide for my family; I would live in Russia in a heartbeat.

Yes, I considered it. I lived in Russia from January 2006-August 2006. No amount of short visits will prepare you for the difference of living there full time. Consider carefully the difficulty of employment and the loss of American conveniences (car, washing machine, etc).

If it was me, I would have her begin getting police records at end of September. Once you receive the NOA2, if needed, an extra few rubles will always help speed the process. She will know proper way to offer this payment for effective processing.

I had past experience, they said it would take 6 months; with a box of chocolate and 2000 rubles, we had it that afternoon. Police lady was happy, former lady friend happy and I could care less about 67 dollars Sometimes, when in Rome, do as the Romans do. Or as in Russia,

But also as Mox has said, best to use this time to get to know each other very well. I have been through this process in past and canceled before interview process. This is excellent time to really get better aquainted; visit a second or third time, etc.

A couple of days difference for rush delivery is insignificant compared to the length of this whole process. But I can identify with the sense of urgency. Settle in and wait for NOA-2!

I understand, but for me, it was worth the extra expense for FedEx and I am happy to be early for the NOA1. A starving man sometimes will eat crumbs under the table while waiting to be fed a full meal star_smile.gif

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusFedEx to USCIS and NOA1
I sent my K-1 visa package on Tuesday (6/23/09) to USCIS via FedEx, morning delivery. A trusted fellow member on the Russian forum suggested that USCIS was best organized to handle applications sent by US Postal Service and FedEx might delay my application a couple days. I can not speak for others or if this has happened in the past, I can only state my check was cashed and NOA1 was issued Wednesday, 6/24/09. This is the first couple steps in a very long expensive process.

Since the average processing time for NOA1 seems to be 7-10 days, I am delighted with one day. I would be even more delighted if I received the NOA2 next week devil.gif

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusDental Care--Who is better, the USA or Russia?
QUOTE (Neonred @ Jul 1 2009, 06:27 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Yes, I am a dentist and my daughter is in dental school, but my wife is not although she works in the office. I also have a Uzbek trained foreign dentist working for me as a part time hygienist. We are working to get him into dental school so he can get a license in the US. We also have a very large number of Russian patients, many that are friends of my wife or our hygienist. I have seen a lot of dental work from Russia, Ukraine, Romania, etc. To put it mildly I am not impressed with anything I have seen. Really, most of it would have been considered malpractice in the US. Most of it is related to poorly done root canals and ill fitting crowns and lack of preventive dentistry. I have spent a lot of time trying to repair this work, and sometimes it just is not possible.

Years ago, when we first started dating, my wife lost a tooth to a poorly preformed root canal that the dentist tried to treat by continuously injecting antibiotics next to the tooth. Not an accepted treatment. I visited her dentist when in Russia and discovered they did not have an X-ray machine in that office because they could not afford it yet. Unacceptable when you are doing most procedures. I also visited and made friends with a very good dentist in Rostov-on-don. He has a very nice and fully modern office. He practices in Moscow most days but flies down to Rostov to practice there two days a week. He offered me a job and told me I could make as much as I am making in the US. He does quality work, BUT he charges similar fees as are charged in the US. He does not lack for patients because he is probably the best dentist in Rostov. Of course the name of his office is "American Dental Clinic"... astory for another day. He did tell me even in Moscow there are only a few dozen dentists he would consider excellent. He told me his biggest problem is getting quality dental materials, the materials for fillings etc, as the best materials come from the US and western Europe and are very expensive in Russia.

Of course most dentistry will be much cheaper in Russia, but be careful. As far as a removable partial denture goes you will probably be OK, and if it doesn't work out you can get another one in the US.

Thanks Neonred, I was hoping to read your response

Classic laughing.gif Whatever pops into the head comes right out the mouth. It is your job, as a man, to organize and keep track of all that stuff. Lord help you if you forget something that later proves to be important. Important is subjective (as we know) and will change with the mood.

My wife posted this big long list of things on our refrigerator. At the top it said - "VOZHNA!" in Russian. When I asked her what vozhna was, she said "It's means what's important. It's list of things in my life that I must be do and it's list of stuff you must take care about."

So, I guess not even she can keep them straight in her own head there's so many "important" things floating around in there.

I'm sticking to my nothing box. I have four days off for this holiday weekend and I'm going to do NOTHING!!!!

The list I give is on top of the normal things like she will send me to get the groceries, I buy everything on the list come home and she starts asking where things are, disappointed and angry look, you didnt buy bread or mushrooms or beef or cookies!!! Honey they werent on the list and you told me to buy only whats on the list( I get fascinated by glittering packages at the graocery store) so if its not on the list I dont buy. Her response you will have to go back, and I say make a list. Then we start the cycle all over again.

Thomas, you have forgotten basic American premiss: Man work, woman shop

She learned early on that I only shop for food(hunter gatherer primal thing).

I explained to her one night that the difference between the way men and women go to the store. Women shop - i.e. they look, try stuff on, go to more than one store. Men - Buy, one store, same thing I got last time and for the last 15 years, no trying stuff on, Im buying what I got last time so I know it fits.

Uggg, Man get food; Woman, eat! Understand. I can buy that (pun intended)

I really missed it, it brings me great joy to see this kind of mottled thinking because it makes perfect sense to me.

The interesting thing about this thread is the OP is the one that took it off track. My original post was about slippers but then I posted about the toilets upon my return from Russia.
