I am a planner, I like things neat and orderly, I need to know what's coming and what to expect, so this uncertainty would drive me crazy. We just went through a major job change ourselves and had to rearrange our plans somewhat because of it - we will still get married in November, using the K1, apply for advance parole and then Lars will keep on working in Africa and just travel back and forth every few months. Maybe ya'll can do something like that.....I don't really know. I surely hope that things work out for you, however they are supposed to be. Yeah, Stan - I got a lot on my mind and will be very, very busy for the next two weeks....if you know what I mean!! In fact, I am sure I couldn't do it. Maybe time will help things to work out between you... so I wouldn't cancel the application either. Maybe it will not work out, but you have nothing to lose by keeping the file active. Keep the communication between you two open, honest and sincere. Try to be understanding (I know, easier said than done), try to be reassuring as well. I truly wish you the best of luck in what ever you decide is best for you. I am confused because I have never called my congressman, just the senators. Tomorrow I am calling Greg Harper. He's my Congressman and he's been under some heat here for how he handled his townhall meeting about healthcare. Maybe he would jump at the chance to make a constituent happy?? Can someone explain what kind of difference it might make - senators vs. congressmen?? I admit that I am an emotional mess. I am up and down more than.....the elevator at the Empire State Building. But, I don't regret calling that last time. They were so nice to me (probably while they secretly called the men with the big butterfly nets and white coats). K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports	March 2009 k-1 people	I called USCIS again, just now, and had a very interesting chat wtih two different agents. The first, level one, was super nice and offered to (a) put in a request to expedite and a service request, even though I am technically not out of processing time and ( OFFERED to transfer me to level two support. We filled out the service request and expedite request and then I was transferred to level two. She was super nice too but not as helpful. There wasn't any extra information that I didn't already know. However, she told me something that you might find interesting. First, she told me that their department had received a directive from the President to get all files into the system ASAP so everyone will get online updates, if they choose. Right now, some files never make it into the system and are never updated using the system. Second, she told me that they are not particularly busy right now. Work visa apps have just about stopped because U.S. employers have to hire U.S. employees first and the economy is so bad that the employers can't justify hiring foreign workers. And, she said that the economy has affected other types of visa apps as well and they just weren't as busy as they usually are. What do you think about that? She also said to get my Senator involved, that they could reach the adjudicator and have my file pushed through, but she couldn't do that. Gosh, I remember when I was in the 200's.... I too called USCIS this morning (*hangs head in shame). I got through to a USCIS officer and got the same thing as before. It could possibly take up to 60 days to get a determination after the RFE but she did say that it usually doesn't take that long. When I asked her why it keeps being updated she didn't know. She had no way to communicate anything to anyone and would not issue a service request because of that freakin 60 days that has been added to my case due to RFE. So.....I'm sitting here and waiting. I sure hope some of ya'll get approved, that always makes me feel better! I am hatin on April today though (sorry April filers). Missy, were you talking to the first-level CSR, or did you escalate to an actual USCIS officer? Escalated. I had to go through the 20 questions that they ask before they transfer you and then the first guy wanted to know where I lived, my accent was so cute..... He was setting me up for the USCIS emotional smack down that he knew was coming. The USCIS officer I talked to was very nice, even when I got all emotional on her. I am stuck in RFE hell and I need to be patient and to just get over it and stop obsessing about it. My problem is I know that it's sitting on someone's desk and it would be such a small and simple thing to go ahead and clear it out. They have already looked at it once, found it lacked one document, sent the request, I responded, it's back on the desk.....just 5 minutes and I'm done. Is that unreasonable?? Sorry, rant over. I need drugs, counseling and the internet to go out so I can stop checking on this every 2 minutes!! (please, don't let the internet go down!!) And to clarify, I'm not hatin the April filers.....just hatin on the month of April in general. They are moving WAY faster than anything I've seen, even when I cyberstalk the California Service Center! I too called USCIS this morning (*hangs head in shame). I got through to a USCIS officer and got the same thing as before. It could possibly take up to 60 days to get a determination after the RFE but she did say that it usually doesn't take that long. When I asked her why it keeps being updated she didn't know. She had no way to communicate anything to anyone and would not issue a service request because of that freakin 60 days that has been added to my case due to RFE. So.....I'm sitting here and waiting. Hi Missy! I think part of the answer is in exactly what you mention - the cultural differences between the countries. In the US, adolescence is becoming a longer and longer period in life. Actually, there was no such thing as adolescence before the early 20th century. Not long after reaching puberty, kids were expected to start working on the farm or family business, and that started their adult lives. Then child labor laws came into place and education was mandated for longer periods of time - eventually high school was mandatory, ending at 18 and we came up with 18 as being an adult. Government manufactured adolescence. And today, with more and more kids tied to parents through college (and many living with parents after college), the length is extending. Depending on the other country, this may or may not be true and it's probably not appropriate to consider a 21-year-old from another country based on the US model. Just my 2 cents. Amy has to go for a sputum culture - translates into an 8-week wait after it starts (September 4). So earliest interview will be early November. So even those who have yet to get the NOA2 will likely have your SO with you before Amy can get here. At least that's my hope for all of you. Awww....sorry about that. I had hoped that she wouldn't have to do that. And, I agree with you on 21 year olds here vs. just about anywhere else. Lars has a son that is the same age as Maggie but Allan is light years ahead of Mag's on the maturity scale. I forgot about that this morning though. I just got caught up in their story and followed a Myspace link and saw their lives outside of this forum and was fascinated and then transferred that right on over to my daughter. I obviously have NO life these days so I'm borrowing everyone elses!! Missy... first, my LOL was about your 'booty' comment and not this... I will comment... but only as a parent myself... I too have a son of chronological marrying age... He is 27 and from my point of view, as much as I love him... he is 27 going on 12 and is no where ready for marriage... I think it is really dependent on the individual. The email said that they mailed it on the 14th but it was post marked for the 17th (Monday) and I received it on Thursday. The good news is I FedExed it back to them on Friday and Sunday they had updated me with another email saying it was received and work on my application has resumed. I knew what had been left out so I had it all ready to go. hello! missy. just want to know what does ur RFE says? did it says request for initial evidence??? that's what it says with ours on email and what kind of papers works they ask from you? sorry missy, i just could'nt help to get nervous till i got that hard copy. just wanna know so i could relax....sorry guys... When I got the hard copy in the mail, on the second page was where it was listed what was missing. In my case they wanted a copy of Lars' divorce decree. I had that, the translation, the certification of the translation, a copy of a certificate that states he is divorced and free to remarry, the translation and certification of all of that too. NISI means that something was missing and once that requirement was satisfied then the divorce would become final and binding. When I was a paralegal we saw Rule NISI orders frequently, especially in Federal Court. Usually some affidavit or evidentiary document and once it was submitted to the court, then the ruling became final. edited to correct awful spelling!
