PhilippinesProof of Engagement
well engagement is hard to define in Filipino customs. i just wore the ring on the interview and showed it to the consul. that was it. basically, they just want proof of genuine relationship, not really the engagement itself.

hello there! i got married in las vegas just recently! it was pretty easy. the only website i checked is this: clark county marriage bureau. you'll get instructions for getting the license there and you'll have the option of marrying in the marriage commisioner's office or any wedding chapel around. i chose the commisioner since they cost a lot cheaper. anyway when you apply for the license, you'll be provided with information on marrying in las vegas. wink.gif good luck!

he did everything by himself and mailed the documents from japan. we filed in february 2008 and got the petition approval letter from the embassy in june. although we got an rfe sometime in between, it was nothing major and didn't really add much delay. i guess if you got all requirements on hand, doing everything yourselves will save you a lot of money.

PhilippinesEmployment law/s in the RP?
hmm. i dont think she'll be sued, that's too much expenses and they wont get anything from her. but they could blacklist her so she might not be able to find another job. but then again, she's leaving anyway.

many companies are hesitant to employ individuals who won't be staying for at least 6 mos. they'll be investing money to train and hire you so if you're just going to leave, why should they bother hiring you? they would want to be able to rely on you in the long term. plus it's another expense to find your replacement.

on the bright side, there are temporary jobs your fiance can apply such as being a crew for catering services, staff member of an event. there are many gigs of that kind in the phil. also there are jobs that give 3 mos contract. she should ask around among her friends. i hope she finds one!

PhilippinesDurian - aphrodisiac food
QUOTE (SenoritaTeresita @ Feb 14 2009, 09:53 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Durian is so offensively odorous that it is banned in most hotels and airplanes. But once you get past the odor, this "king of fruits" has a pulp that is said to taste like a rich custard. So is the alleged arousal worth suffering the stink? Perhaps… if you believe the famous Malaysian saying, "When the durians come down, the sarongs come off."

The above item comes from AOL.com. Would you believe durian, even how stinky it may be, is my favorite fruit and almost everyone here in Davao craves for it. No wonder the population of Mindanao soars! star_smile.gif

i love durian especially the ice scream version, even if it makes my fart 10x stinkier than normal laughing.gif

PhilippinesAbortion Question
just my two cents, doctors can verify if one had given birth but not having been pregnant. as someone mentioned before, doctors make a certain cut in the ####### that identifies giving birth. sometimes, the cervical opening changes form when a woman gives birth. so if a woman had surgical abortion, they do a similar procedure which produces the same mark/scar. however, medical abortion or abortion by medicine during the early stages of pregnancy barely leaves a trace as it would only be like getting her menstrual period again. thus, i doubt a doctor could ever tell she had an abortion if she did the medical abortion.

I have seen some posts that suggest its an easier time if you go to St. Mary's Convent in Quezon City for the CFO. Anybody think that's true?

that's definitely true. people are much kinder and more polite there. plus, all the stamps you'll ever need will be in one place. i finished my seminar in half a day. the seminar should simply be a reminder to potential immigrants of the risks of migrating and making sure that very young females know what they're getting into, but definitely not another approval stage.

PhilippinesPHILIPPINE POST OFFICE
i was told that a method used by these post office people is to hold a mail, usually on a white envelope, on top of a steam so they can see what it contains. plus the steam often makes it easier to open a sealed envelope without leaving any traces of tampering, so they can easily reseal it again! conniving thieves eh?

You still have to pay tax even if its sent thru fedex or any private couriers. Its safety is guaranteed though.

felbFemalePhilippines2009-01-14 04:52:00
PhilippinesPHILIPPINE POST OFFICE
it's a fact. the phil post office is not reliable and very corrupt! once, when i got a package from my hubby, i found one side of the box obviously opened and resealed with tape! it was a good thing he gift-wrapped everything inside so it would be more obvious if they stole anything. and in another incident, i was made to pay a very huge amount as "tax" for a package that was declared as a gift! ranting33va.gif

so guys, i recommend using a more reliable courier service such as fedex or dhl. they're a bit more expensive but you'll be sure that your package is safe from thieves such as our post office.

PhilippinesQuestion about the medical exam
you can't. you have to give an allowance of at least 2 weeks between the two. medical exam takes two days, the least if everything gets cleared. and you have to give st luke's time to forward the documents to the embassy.

but, you can do the cfo seminar before your medical exam. or after, if you still have your passport at hand.

QUOTE (jom @ Mar 26 2009, 12:57 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
To add...those american men and women who see us with our husbands and don't know us ..they are probably thinking the same thing....that we married our USC husbands to get out of the Philippines. And what about these Filipina women who ask us to hook them up with a USC man, what do they really think about us marrying our USC husbands? Probably the same thing. It doesn't matter....for love or for money.....if the marriage is successful and works out great for both, who really cares? Love can be learned.

girl, there's a huge difference. they're actually being the ones who are judgemental here you see. they assume what they don't know or sure of. contrary to their blatantly asking us for a way to go to the US. i'm not judging them, it's simply knowing their intentions and me not wanting to be part of it. plus, how could you say it doesn't matter if it's love or money? don't you realize that these people, who want a partner from the US because of the greencard or the money, are the very reason why it has become so difficult for us who just want a visa to be with the ones we love.

Bottomline is..this "phenomenon" of marrying an american man or woman is worldwide and not just in the Philippines. Big age gaps etc etc. For love or for money..we make our own destiny.

A 75 year old USC man with a 25 year old Filipina woman...what do you think? For love or for money? It doesn't matter if they are happy. I personally know two couples ( 75/34- married for 7 years and 75/30- married for 4 years ) and they are wonderful together.

Just because we are already here or in the process of getting here, let us not judge these women who also want to be in our shoes.

if they want to find their true love, then yes they do want to be in my shoes and i have no contest to that.

do they just want a greencard and use another person for it? then no, it's definitely not in my shoes they want to be.

honestly, i'd consider setting them up had they told me, "uy, buti ka pa nahanap mo na soulmate mo. hanap mo nga ako, baka andiyan din yung akin." instead of telling me, "uy buti ka pa nasa amerika ka na. ireto mo nga ako diyan para makarating na din ako diyan." it's like implying i purposely chose my husband just because he's in the US. and now they're confident that they can do it too because of me. now who's being judgemental? so yes, i get irritated when people SERIOUSLY ask me to help them get a greencard by setting them up with someone from here.

that these two lost souls could be perfectly wrong for each other and their union could cause havoc. laughing.gif

Nada es impossible con Dios. If they are not right for each other, they can always say no and move on. What is the difference between that and meeting someone in the bar? Do you think your chances are better of finding true love in a bar?

it's one thing to be doing it for yourself. but doing it for another person. entirely different. also, it'll be good thing that they meet through me, but not because i purposely encouraged them, especially if i know that the woman just wants a ticket to the US. that's all i'm saying.

plus, i don't think it's actually about romance despite the age gap or culture differences. it's the idea of someone asking you to set them up with someone in the US for not so romantic reasons that is annoying.

Maybe its just me but it really really turns me off when they ask me. Sometimes i don't know how to reply. Usually if its ym I just stop answering but if its in person... really caught me off guard. I don't want to be rude but sometimes when i'm not in the mood i really shove them off and act so mean. I guess I'm too serious ohmy.gif My husband doesn't like it too and said it gives some Filipina a bad name. Like what would their intention be? If its for money or love... we wouldn't really know right? I just don't want to take the risk and be blamed afterwards. One wrong move by a Filipina could easily be judged by the entire world. Sad but it is true. Not all people are open-minded.

exactly what i was thinking. i don't want to be accused of conspiracy if the relationship turns out to be a fraud. it could be romantic all right but i'm not going out of my way to play cupid for people who have not seen each other. if they're meant to be together, then there will be other ways. star_smile.gif

I disagree, sinong maysabi madali lang makakuha ng degree? Of course not.... ilang years mo yan pinagpupuyatan, pinagagastusan, minsan ayaw mong ma inlove para lang i priority mo ang schooling di ba?
