PhilippinesHow Wonderful Are Your Inlaws?(Naging mabait ba sila sa inyo?)
i have not met my mom-in-law in person but i've talked to her many times (thru phone calls and emails)before ever since my hubby and i got together. she's really really nice to me and i like her a lot. she was really excited (cleaned up their house) when we were supposed to visit her this week. unfortunately, i got a job and we have to move the visit to july or august. sad.gif as for my dad-in-law, i met him back in pinas. he likes me a lot too and he couldn't wait for me and my hubby to get married. now, he wants grandchildren soon. smile.gif

PhilippinesThe Journey to Forever
QUOTE (emerald queen @ Jun 27 2009, 04:38 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
January 23, 2009 he filed the petition. Petition was approved and in March 26, 2009 the NOA from the US Embassy advising me that I am eligible for interview was delivered in my apartment. Unfortunately, I wasn't at the apartment when it arrived so a neighbor received it in my behalf. I wouln't get glimpse of the NOA until May 3, 2009. My neighbor forgot to give me the letter. April 12, 2009, my fiance went back here to spend summer with me touring Bohol and Cebu. I was able to get a 3 week Leave of Absence from work. I introduced him to my family, who still up to now can't reconcile with the fact that I am getting married to a foreigner. My mother even boldly asked me if I am doing it for my ambition and told me that we do not need to cling to a foreigner to have a better life. I am from a middle-income family and I graduated from the University of the Philippines. I told her, how dare she think of me as a gold-digger. She eventually said sorry but I know that they don't approve of my decision. It's hard enough to go through the process, much harder to face it alone.

You know what, reading your story is like reading my own (I'm from UP as well). Although my husband (then fiance) is pinoy, my family had a hard time approving my marriage to him because for them, it felt like I was throwing away my good life (we're also middle-income family) back in PI for the American Dream. It was insulting but I know it hurt their pride that I won't be the independent, career-oriented daughter they wanted me to be. But eventually, they let me make my own decision and I know, despite their disapproval, they're just glad that I'm happy here. Someday, I might just be successful career-wise and let them know I haven't forgotten the future they want me to have. smile.gif

PhilippinesCommunication with your (long distance) partner
QUOTE (Matt & Jovy @ Jun 28 2009, 12:51 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Iam not sure if there is already a topic about this..but anyway, I just want to share mine.

A long distance relationship is really hard and a constant communication with my fiance really helps me to survive for 6 years.

1. We talk every weekend/holidays on chat (I always make sure I dont have a schedule in the afternoon).
2. I call him everyday to wake him up. We chat on phone while he`s driving to work.
3. He calls me everyday after he leaves work and while driving on his way home.
4. We send each other text messages in the evening before he goes to bed or when I/he is out of the house (party, malls, school, etc.)
5. For 4 years we sent each other emails tons. We stop now because we prefer communications on phone.
6. I even communicate with him even while he`s sleeping. He just leaves his webcam open so I can watch/hear (love to hear his snores, makes me fall asleep) him while he`s sleeping and he does the same thing while I`m sleeping.

He`s always telling me that he talks to me more than he does with his family. Haha. I believe him. I know it is so expensive to make all the calls but hearing each other`s voice helps us to feel that there`s not much distance between us. It shouldn`t be talking about different/new topics because we usually run out of those, but we`re always reminding how much we love/miss and care for each other. What really matters is the happiness that we feel every time we hear/see (webcam) each other for as often as we can.

Well, hope to hear from you guys. smile.gif

i can totally relate. back when we were separated, we talked every single day (in different forms), up to 5 times a day. phone bills were outrageous but our happiness is priceless. smile.gif

wear loose jeans. sweatpants are even better. i recommend wearing slippers (then just bring socks for the cold) or loose shoes because you'll be taking off shoes a lot when you go thru airport inspection especially when you have multiple plane rides. definitely bring a jacket too. smile.gif

also know the weather of the place you're going to so you'll be more ready.

SSN is one important item that everyone should be concern about. This should be prioritized.

Without SSN, you can't have health insurance, life insurance, bank account, driving license. Health insurance, life insurance, joint bank account are evidences for the AOS.

There is nothing wrong being excited with SSN.

true! let's avoid prejudice against our fellow vj-ers. and in the case i might get misintrepreted, here's a definition from dictionary.com

prejudice
–noun
1. an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason.
2. any preconceived opinion or feeling, either favorable or unfavorable.

3. unreasonable feelings, opinions, or attitudes, esp. of a hostile nature, regarding a racial, religious, or national group.
4. such attitudes considered collectively: The war against prejudice is never-ending.
5. damage or injury; detriment: a law that operated to the prejudice of the majority.
–verb (used with object)
6. to affect with a prejudice, either favorable or unfavorable: His honesty and sincerity prejudiced us in his favor.
—Idiom
7. without prejudice, Law. without dismissing, damaging, or otherwise affecting a legal interest or demand.

i hope you get this one. whistling.gif

hi everyone.. here are my questions

star_smile.gif can we file my AOS even if i dont have my SSN yet? (we just applied for my SSN today. our packet is ready for filing). can i just attach the reciept the ssn office gave me to prove i already applied.

you don't need it for aos.

star_smile.gif the amount we will pay is 1010$ (for AOS, EAD & AP)and nothing more?

that's about it. no more than that.

star_smile.gif how come my status in the immigration is (EMPLOYMENT IS AUTHORIZED)..the lady from the ssn showed me n we r confused with this. If i havent filed employment authorization yet ?

as k1, you are authorized but you will need the authorization document, which is the one you apply for, to be legally employed in the US. the status just differs us from other visa holders who can't apply for employment authorization (like tourists and students).

star_smile.gif my husband's anual income for 2008 n 2007 met the poverty lines (actually way above n he has a stable job right now) BUT his 2006 anual income didnt met it. will it be ok? or do we need a co sponsor?

it'll be ok. we had the same when we applied for our aos. and i got approved anyway smile.gif

THANK U FOR THE REPLY. VJ has been very very helpful and i feel very lucky to find this site... God bless u all

PhilippinesQuestion for Filipina's in USA, regarding the food...
back in the phils, i ignored chinese food because i found them too bland but here in the US, i'm a regular at our local chinese buffet. tongue.gif also, my husband introduced me to pho, which i'm also addicted to now. i also love seafood restos such as red lobster and crabpot. i think because filipinos have been brought up to eat rice, a "complete" meal for us definitely must have rice. i guess that's why i'm not into pastas, burgers, and tacos so much. your wife would probably look for rice with her meals so i suggest bringing her to asian restos first. introduce western food to her little by little so her tastesbuds can adjust and eventually enjoy them too. star_smile.gif

http://www.visajourn...php?showforum=7

how come the guidelines say that we need to transcribe ds3025 (vaccination supplement) to I-693? how will i do that?

that's when you go to a civil surgeon. the cs will transfer the information to the I-693 and that form is what you submit with your aos forms.

i hope you don't get confused but what i did was just submit my ds3025 and took the risk of getting an rfe. but i didn't get one and they never looked for it during my interview. since the rules are still conflicting at uscis, i guess the seattle office doesn't look for it yet from k1 visaholders. blush.gif

felbFemalePhilippines2009-07-11 13:15:00
Philippinesvaccination
yes, you have to get the booster shots for some of the vaccinations you got such as the hpv, varicella, etc, depending on the time of your filing your aos. some you have to get a month after your first shot. however, you don't have to get them from the civil surgeon. as mentioned, you can get them for free or cheap from government clinics (i got mine from the naval hospital) or from a doctor covered by your husband's insurance.

and for the other requirements, do follow charles' link. or you can go to the uscis website.
