K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsMy honey is on her way!!!!!!

Yes it has been wonderful what a lucky guy I am she's just now getting used to the time change, now I hope the homesickness won't be to bad I'm having her call home as often as she wants not that anyones been there to answer :(

I'm sure it's been a 'sweet' past few days...yes you are a lucky guy. Those cold, wet, raining nights (days also) won't matter now. In fact you might even welcome those raining days/nights.

Keep her busy and occupied, get her connected with other Pinay's in the area and maybe the feeling of being homesick will not be severe.
Good thing the SEA-TAC area has much to see, do and explore. Take her to Pike Place Market and let her get a kick from the fishmongers.

Hey Bob, jokingly...while you're there, grab 5 pieces of Alderwood Smoked Salmon, then walk over to Ivar's and get a couple gallons of clam cowder
and FedEx it to me.

I enjoy getting up to your area once every couple of years, love those San Juan Islands!

Best wishes!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsK-1 visa and I-765
Ok, then why not file the K1 petition? Do you feel you have a better chance to immigrate with an F1 since you've already been here as a student? Are you currently in Indonesia?

Thanks leatherneck!! Well, being in school in US in the past 4 years have definitely taught me to use another glasses to view sense of humor, especially Americans' sense of humor!
Anyway,thanks for the advice.

Ok, so you're already familiar with the F1 visa. So what is your goal, is it to continue to study or get married?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsK-1 visa and I-765

Thanks for the friendly suggestion =) here is te problem,is not that I wanna get ahead of myself or anything, but the reason I need to know is so that I know whether to get a fiancé visa better or just apply for a student visa? What do u think? Cause after all I can still get married with a student visa n I can also work on campus with that...

I'm glad you didn't misunderstand my comment or take it personal, the baseball player analogy was a weak attempt at humor :). You have to consider what is your ultimate goal for immigrating, marriage or to study. If you immigrate on a K1, you'll be able to attend university and avoid paying the higher cost of being a foreign student, that is if saving money is important to you.

A student visa is certianly an option, there are requirements so as to avoid being out of status. From my reading on the State Dept. website, significant effort is put forth to accomdate students applying for visas. And yes, you can work on campus, no employment authorization document (EAD) is required. The on-campus employment must not exceed 20 hours a week during school. However, full time work on campus is permitted when the school is not in session.

But I would not seek a (F) student visa if the intent is to marry eventually, that way you do not have to be concerned with misrepresentation and the other F word...as in FRAUD. Note the link below that might be of help to you.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsK-1 visa and I-765

Does anyone know anything about I-765 n how it works n stuff? My admission counselor told me about to apply this after I get over to US with the fiancé visa, but I dont know anything about it n the success percentage of it. Thank u

Mattoya, the first thing you should (I'm not impling you have not) do and take some time to read the guides and familiarize yourself with the first steps of the process. Filing an I-765 is so far in your future it is too early to be concerned with. Proof of a relationship, the supporting evidence, the medical, and preparing for the interview will keep you busy for awhile.

Let me put it to you like this, filing the I-765 would be like a baseball player having hit a homerun and he's headed to home plate.
You have yet to swing the bat or hit the ball.
I am not being mean or rude, just a friendly suggestion, approach the visa process in stages or you can find yourself overwhelmed and quickly.

Good luck.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsI'm worried n stressed out!!! HELP

Thanks for reading my post, it has alot of questions, sorry...

if the petitioner is a temporary worker who works 30-40 hours a week (more likely a part time than a full time), would that be a problem for the visa to be approved during the interview?

is there any documents in filing I-129F that needs to be notorized?

How long does it usually take for a K-1 visa holder to get a permanent residency? Or work permit?

The work permit that can be submit when the foreign fiancé gets in US will expire the same time the couple get married?

Thanks again!!

The EAD you get before you AOS will expire on the date of your I-94. Therefore, most couples apply for the EAD when AOS.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsTears of Joy at Interview: Visa Approved!!

Sucasa, Leatherneck, and RenCor--Thank you for the congratulations and best wishes! --RK and Inday

@Rencor and all others with similar sentiments: Yes, as with many of life's big changes there are the downsides along with the ups. We (Inday and RK) talked about the various possibilities and life paths years before even choosing to apply for K-1 visa, before even RK proposed. Yes, then and still now wishing there was some way we could both be simultaneously near each of our family members, friends, co-workers and all of life's seeming good situations. Yes, the goodbyes even now are bittersweet but we--trusting in and remembering our original decision based hopefully on wise choices and definitely based in faith on Godly precepts as best we know how and understand--we choose now to look mostly ahead and focus on all the bright sides. Yes, family and friends--all of whom are happy for us--will be sorely missed but they too see providence working in all our lives and give this recognition top priority as well. Understanding your loneliness about leaving love ones behind but hope you remember it is not the "leaving from" but the "going to" which is important. May the life with the one you love most of all be ever truly blessed and be often full of joy. --RK and Inday

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsAirline booking confussion

Hi there! As far as i know, you can purchase tickets thru online, originating from Philippines to US. Try to visit expedia.com. You fiance really needs to pay tax such as TRAVEL TAX since she's still a Filipino resident which amounting to Php 1,620 and also Terminal fee for Php 750.... FYI... hope this can help you...

That is true, she'll have to pay the terminal fee and the travel tax. But the taxes for the airfare is different. Not all carriers will allow you to book a flight in the U.S (or any other place) that originates in Philippines.
LeatherneckMalePhilippines2011-11-06 00:51:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsAirline booking confussion
Kevin, the answer is all of the above actually. Some airlines will not allow you to book the flight from the U.S.
In the case where Delta will allow you to book the flight, yeah, you have to go to the airport and show the credit card and ID so they can remove the restriction from her ticket.

Would be a good idea to give her a copy of the credit card just in case she needs it, plenty of Pinays have needed to present a copy of the credit card. That has to do with the nanny Philippine government's attempt to prevent human smuggling of Filipinos.

Lenith will have to pay the taxes on the ticket if you book through a carrier from the U.S.

Hope that helps.

Well if she is going to be YOUR Wife.. it is NOT just YOUR Money anymore. It seems many American men act more like they are purchasing a bride and that Filipina should be grateful to be marring an American. I notice this much more on Philippines post than any other on here. Once you marry her she will have all the rights of an American wife. That means after day one she can divorce you and take half of YOUR Money.
I think it is a bad attitude to think your fiancée should be grateful to you.
99% of the time it is an Ameican man marring a very beautiful, younger Filipina. When you know you could not get the same age and beauty of American female unless you Spend a LOT more Money Spoiling her. So I think the American men should be as much or More Grateful that this woman is willing to marry you and spend your life with her.
Stop thinking about your money and thinking of her as a purchase. If you can't afford it just be honest and said you can't afford it and stop thinking she needs to ASK and Be Grateful. Just a bad attitude that will end in divorce in my opinion.

"a little grattitude is all I ask." I see nothing wrong with a little gratitude, other than I misspelled it here.

Not only did you miss the point entirely, you took my comment totally out of context and went in a direction not relevant to anything being discussed here. Your entire comment sounds as if you're kissing-up to Filipinas and trying to score some brownie points along the way.

Until the "I do" is uttered from my lips during a marriage ceremony and a ring is placed on a woman's finger, it is my money, every penny of it. Legally it becomes ours (our money) after said ceremony. Before then, I'm more than willing to share my money, within reason and anything else I have out of love, care, concern and the plain ole "it's the right thing to do" for my future wife.

It really escapes me why you feel "it is a bad attitude to think your fiancee should be grateful to you." Really! You either don't know what a "bad attitude" is or you don't know what it means to be "grateful." I would not expect for my boots to be licked or for ####### to be kissed for spending money I would gladly spend to get my fiancee to the U.S.A., but I wouldn't expect to have a show of anger at not wanting to spend twice the cost for airfare either.

If you're willing to put up with an ungrateful woman (assuming you're a guy) and any other negatives that'll surely be a part of that package, that's your business, but don't lecture me if I'd like a show of gratitude...in the form a simple 'thank you.'

Read again and comprehend my comment, nowhere is money and a fiancee equated "as a purchase." How on earth did you come up that! You know nothing about my finances and to speculate about what I can or can't afford is rather presumptuous.

In my state, if I was to get a divorce after one day of marriage, a Pinay would be entitled to "take" the same as an American woman... nothing! Not half, nor one penny of my money, you're misinformed.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportsbooking flights

I did an 8 hour layover at Narita airport coz it was the cheapest ticket that I can get... but i wasn't dreading the 8 hour, i was actually looking forward to it, I know Narita airport is a good layover and there are a lot of things to do there. I spent my layover looking around the shops and even buying a couple of souvenirs, and when i got tired of that, i took out my laptop and watch some DVD movies.

Although I do understand the OP's situation of having a kid with her... I suggest bring some toys, if you have a laptop, bring DVD's that your kid like so that your kid can watch while waiting... Also looked online what are the facilities that the layover airport has to offer so that you can plan some things to do... Most airports nowadays, especially international ones are like malls... you will be surprise of how much you can do.

Patience... patience... patience... and understanding. Goodluck and hope you have a good trip!

 Good advice Theresa. The way you view a layover matters, if you see it as a negative, ten it will be a long layover. If you see it as a positive and explore the shops and restaurants, gift shops, it can be fun. As a single traveler, I find food and alcohol then I'm good to go-a happy traveler.

and once again.these tickets should have been thought of alongtime ago when the two of you became engaged.these are costs that very few people think of.after my wifes interview in manila she got a cheap flight from manila to sf 12 days later.went home to gensan for 12 days to stay with her family and say her goodbyes.we travel home every year

may i also add i will never fly pal again

Asiana, Cathy Pacifc or Korean Air for me... I agree with you about PAL.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportsbooking flights
Chloe, not sure how much travel experience you have, let it be no surprise to you, the price of tickets will not be getting cheaper anytime soon, especially around the time you want to fly. So you'll need to be flexible and work with your fiance, double the price is real money-adding up quickly and a very bitter pill to swallow when you're the one paying.

Remember, your fiance is not done spending money.
. You have a wedding planned, surely you'll want some type of honeymoon.
. You and your daughter will need weather (it will be winter in the U.S., something you do not have in Philippines) appropriate clothing.
. Which means increased utility bills to heat the house to keep you and your daughter warm, you're not acclimated to the colder weather yet.
. Most bachelors will need to shop for things to make the house more to the liking of a woman. New sheets, towels, better kitchenware, etc.
. New clothes for your daughter to attend school and the expenses related to school.
. Grocery shopping in an Asian market for food you like.
. The expense of AOS is on the horizon at some point also.

An few extra (9) hours of layover or flight time is a small sacrifice in the big picture of things to help your fiance, you're getting married now... no longer 'me' this is a team effort as in 'we' or 'us.'

Good luck

Lets say you get a cheap ticket he wants for $800 or the expensive one you want for $1600. You will need two tickets, so this will be an extra $1600 to save 9 hours. This is better than $170 per hour.

He is buying you tickets and you complain that he is not spending enough? While I am sure you are priceless, $170 an hour is quite a bit of money.

Cash a reality check and wait until you have your visa, THEN be wise about spending his money.

Double the cost x 2 is one helluva whack at the wallet for sure.

yeah you are right...we need to move the wedding day

If I were you, I would just keep things as they are for the time being. If all goes well with the interview and with getting the your visa delivered to you, you're ok.

But if you move your wedding now, what day do you set as the new date?

If you move the wedding day before the interview, then get a 221g during the interview, what date do you change your wedding to now for the second time?

How long will your case be in AP? All unknown 'what if's' that are out of your control. I'm not saying you will get a 221g and be in AP, just things to think about.

Chloe, things like this are the very reason many K1'ers do not make the wedding plans until after the visa is in hand.

Your wedding day is exactly 15 days after your interview, that really is not much time built in for any kind of delay at the embassy level, which is out of your control.

The only thing you can do is wait until you have the visa in your hand. There is no way you can book a flight now, you have no idea what might happen with the interview or how long it will take you to have the visa in your hands.
