Boy I miss Osan.

Were you were stationed at Osan? If you were stationed there, I envy you, lord knows I had tooo much fun in Korea.
I Flew into Osan twice for a much needed 15 day leave each time. Same with Taegu Air Base, (now Daegu) spent some time in Pusan (now Busan) and Seoul shopping and having more fun than should be legally allowed.

Although I love Kim Chee/kimchi, don't miss smelling it first thing in the morning...on people that is.

Alla has extremely short hair so cannot do that (she is growing it longer again so maybe there is hope) Women with very short hair can also lean over the kitchen counter and raise their skirt in back. It is kind of the same thing for short haired women. Subtle, yet somehow still effective.

The thing with Herman Cain has me very disappointed. For one thing I like the guy and think he is a non-politician and maybe that is what we need, I KNOW that is what we need.

In THIS country, in the 90's the whole sexual harrassment thing was going crazy, there really hadn't been any ground rules written, so to speak, and women were suing fro "sexual harrassment" for everything from being raped on the job to being asked to make coffee. It was not a comfortable time.

So the first two "accusers" of Cain have been vague because of the settlements. Settlements are, I assure you, simply the "easy way out" in a lot of cases. And it is not the easy way out of anything except legal fees! Parasitic attorneys have made anything resembling litigation so horribly expensive that businesses and insurance companies simply settle out of court for virtually anything.

One of those "accusers" has now come forward and is talking about "other stuff" but we find that she has filed bankruptcy twice in 10 years, had 9 jobs in 17 years and has filed sexual harrassment charges against at least one other employer.

Then they come with completely unsubstantiated claims of sexual harrassment and now this one that says Cain did not do anything inappropriately sexually, but DIDN'T PAY THE TAB!!!!! We are giving national media attention to people's 4th grade tattle tales!

I believe this is because the politicians in BOTH parties are terrified of this guy. And I think it is shameful that we would allow this to happen.

The Republican old guard establishment and the leftwing hate a conservative 'outsider' candidate.

The leftwing because he's a conservative and the Republican establishment because he's an outsider.

Regarding the difference between Bill Clinton's White House experience and Herman Cain, Bill had an intern flash her butt to the President as she was exiting his office. It sounds like Herman Cain was just trying to assert himself upon an underling. Not really the same circumstances.

Slick Willie had issues with women long before he reached the White house, as in Juanita Broaddrick and Paula Jones.

Keep in mind that they DO consider the more genteel approach to be better overall, but it is still required to touch them and handle them frequently (read: many times per day) or you will offend them for no longer finding them attractive.

Alla and her friend had an incident last summer where a guy at the bus stop, classy guy, "completely drunk", took out his c*ck and offered both Alla and her friend "Hours and Hours of fun" back at his flat.

They told him it was "one of the best one of those things we have ever seen" but that they were late for the theatre and had to pass on this very generous offer. He staggered away with his thing still hanging out. Olga said "Alla, you have GOT to find me an American man"

Alla's Mom (in her 70s)was recently harassed/assaulted. We are not sure if it was a robbery attempt/rape attempt. At any rate, some guy started groping her up, reaching in her coat, grabbing for her breasts (or maybe her wallet), She was pushing him and kicking him and some other guy came along, knocked the assailant on his #### and the assailant ran off.

So she tells Alla this and says "Maybe I should not be so happy, it may have been my last chance to get laid"

Yeah, I'm not a grabber with octopus hands, I prefer the subtle approach. However, I would find it a challenge to keep my hands off of a sexy RUB that I was getting to know.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusHow about this?!!!

I'm not so much worried about the Chinese as I am what'd be on the news when the police raid my house.

I think most avid "collectors" have a room like that somewhere in the house.

Since I live in a small apartment I sneak mine in wherever I can. A little here, a little there. Folks walk through my house saying, "gosh, are you buggin out soon or something?" No. I just don't have a good storage space.

After recent events close to home I'm thinking about storing the majority of my arms and ammo off-site. Reduces the chances of "getting some guns off the streets" should an anonymous call or two be made. It saddens me to think something like a loud noise complaint could lead to all my arms being confiscated.

That's why I love my ARs. Good for both jobs.

That is exactly what I did, put most of it off site, although I have a home and storage, I did not want to deal with it getting confiscated then having to fight to get it back. Nor could I replace the many cases of ammo at the 1995-2004 prices that look like a steal now.

Personally I'd like to see you guys live within your means.

If you get laid off that's not anyone's problem but yours. You either find another job or you survive on the money you already have. What's extremely frustrating about this situation is you know you're going to get laid off every year yet there's a legal way for you to scam the system and continue being paid for doing absolutely nothing.

Like I said above, I'm not knocking you personally (or the guys at your union hall who coerced people into passing those laws in the first place) I'm mad at the hypocrisy of a system that rewards people for doing nothing and the fact that we're all too stupid to fix it.

Why do you think I am against it? The scary thing is that state government is usually about 500 times more efficient than federal government. And I live in a state where the capital is 30 minutes drive from the biggest city, the Governor sits in his office with the door open, and nearly everyone has personal acquaitance with at least one of US Senators, yet it can still take MONTHS and MONTHS for one state government agency to give a permit to another state government agency to build a state government project!

People who whine about the I-129f have no effin' clue, I am telling you! USCIS is like Fedex compared to other government agencies.

So true. The only and I do mean only exception to most government agencies moving fast, is when you owe them money or when they think you owe them money. They're all over you like "white on rice" or "stink on sh!t" but let them owe you money and no one seems to know where your file is located.

And to think there are folks in this country that salivate for more-and-more government.

Reading all this reminds me of how we all got our spouses here. It has been my contention that USCIS employees are predominantly women that are on the large size. I am sure that during the processing this happens.

At USCIS each morning:

A rather large woman picks up a file for K-1 application. "Oh look at this. Another fat bald guy is bringing one of those young harlots from Russia again. Well if this A-hole thinks I'm going to provide him with a smooth process for this thin, attractive, green card needing b*tch, he has another thought coming".

Setting the file aside, she turns to an associate. "Is that last donut yours?"

And we wonder why it takes six months to process an application that can be done in 35 minutes.

That was a good one.

We have that same program here...Alaska's version of OSHA and the same invite thing were they come out and inspect, don't fine, and give you X amount of days to fix the problem. The thing with that is they never make it out when they are suppose to, and chances are they will never come back to see for themselves to see if the fixes have been fixed. It's just another waste of tax payer $$. And as far as those inspectors go...there's a few good ones, but most of them are either goobers who couldn't cut it in the construction trades so they got some gravy inspector job for the state or feds, or some young college punk who wants to make a name for themselves even though they don't have a clue most of the time at what their looking at and or what it's called. Like no clue.

And the meetings to make more meeting you speak of.....office jockeys love that #######. It's like it's a reason for them to have a job and make them feel like their important (needed) even though a monkey in a suit could do the same job for less if they knew how to work an ipad to post another meeting in their reminder/schedule folder.

We used to have a bit of fun back in the day with those safety inspectors. We would take them up 100+ ft in a man lift, drop it as fast as we could 50ft and let off on the control switch and watch them bounce 2ft off the floor of the bucket. Their faces would get white as a sheet and I even had one lose it and puke all over. After that the inspection is always over. They take a few minutes to get their nerves back before they drive off in their rental.

In the Marine Corps, we would say the "brass is having a meeting to determine when to have a meeting."

Before you buy from Cabela's check out AIM surplus dot com. They almost always have them for $89 and should take your C&R with no problems.

I don't have one but a buddy of mine does. To my knowledge he's never used his other than to gain entry to the "dealers only" shows. They should come in handy for buying Mosins over the net.

The Mosin is now that $89 rifle.

Inflation. What are you gonna do?

Inflation and an increased demand for a rifle that, dollar-for-dollar was a helluva bargain and buy for the money.
LeatherneckMalePhilippines2012-02-06 18:29:00
Russia, Ukraine and BelarusMosin Nagant

Basically I went into a few stores here in the Bay Area looking for black powder (I think the entire area is dry of the stuff- guess I buy online) and I happened to pop into this little sporting goods store where they are on sale for 109. Didn't have a chance to ask about it as I was in a hurry. Anyway, I think i'll go back and see if they have more than one and check out their condition. I'll check for condition and matching serials etc. My guess is that the store probably has a pretty poor collection so.....

I'll probably buy from Cabela's and submit a C&R application first so I can have it shipped directly. 30 dollars for 3 years seems like a good deal and the red tape doesn't seem too bad - primarily just a log book for inspection.

Yeah I'm definitely not a "manly man" lol at 6'1 and only 160 but I still want it. Is it worse than a 12 gauge?

Also noticed the ammo is generally corrosive, but I guess thats not any different then black powder - i.e. clean the same day if possible.

Anyone here apply for a C and R license?

The Mosin is a beefy weapon with noticeable recoil and the round is equivalent to the .30-06, which won't beat you up too badly, (unless you put a significant number of rounds down range) if you don't keep the weapon firmly against your shoulder, in that case you'll get a reminder to do so for the next round you put down range.

Hands down the best rifle you can buy for the money.

Accurate, powerful, robust, reliable. Great at the range but if you're looking for something "fun" to shoot, go with a .22LR. It's smaller, cheaper to shoot, and you can shoot it all day without anything hurting tomorrow. The Marlin 795 can be had for $125 and .22LR is $15 for 500 rounds. If you're shooting 100 or so yards, you can't go wrong with a .22.

The Mosin is going to kick your butt! The recoil isn't horrible but it is a big, robust platform and it's not as smooth as many bolts and, simply put, you have to "man handle" the thing. I don't want to overhype it (because it's really not all that bad) but unless you're a "manly man" you're probably not going to have much fun shooting the Mosin as just a casual shooter. It's a lot of work to heave that big ol' rifle around and even carrying the ammo is no small job.

If you want a vintage "big gun" go with the K-31 Swiss. It's about $200 more but it's a lot easier and smoother to operate. For someone just looking for something "bigger" to shoot and have fun with at the range I'd recommend a SKS. They can be found for around $250 and ammo is a lot cheaper, lighter, and since it's a semiauto, it's a lot more fun to shoot.

I don't know how far you're shooting but for anything in the 500 yards or less category, you can't go wrong with the SKS. If you just kind of clicked a link and said, "Holy #######, those Mosins are only $100." then get one. Try it out. It's a great rifle. But, if you're a casual shooter and just looking for something fun... I don't know if the Mosin will fit that bill. They're big, slow and heavy. But, with practice, they can be a lot of fun! And, if you get good enough, you can make 1,000 yard hits all day long with those things.

Please stop back and tell us what you decided to do. Pics too!

I agree, of all the rifles I own, I enjoy the SKS tremendously. Got it in 1998 for a mere $89.00 and now I want to kick myself when I see them going for $400.00 +/-, wishing I would've picked up 3 or 4 at that price. I would walk into a local gun store and see multiple crates of them, those days are gone.

From this day forth -- never utter "assault rifle or assault weapon." :)

Those are basically political (and legal) terms thrown around by bureaucrats/politicians and the uninformed to cover a large swath of weapons, used merely to make rifles with certain characteristics and features appear scary -- to scare the public and the uninformed. Try tactical rifle, tactical weapon, battle rifle or semi-automatic rifle.

Yeah....I REALLY want to move my family to "peaceful Australia"

Since the brilliant gun-control measures:

-Between 1995 and 2007, Australia saw a 31.9 percent decrease; without a gun ban, America's rate dropped 31.7 percent.
-During the same time period, all other violent crime indices increased in Australia: assault rose 49.2 percent and robbery 6.2 percent.
-Sexual assault -- Australia's equivalent term for rape -- increased 29.9 percent.
-Overall, Australia's violent crime rate rose 42.2 percent.
-At the same time, U.S. violent crime decreased 31.8 percent: rape dropped 19.2 percent; robbery decreased 33.2 percent; aggravated assault dropped 32.2 percent.
-Australian women are now raped over three times as often as American women.

just for self defense and the gun is likely stay in-home.

There really is no "best,' buy the best quality weapon you can afford, at a reasonable price and what you're comfortable with.

For a handgun, all of the above applies and it should to fit your shooting hand comfortably. By all means, get a caliber that will get the job
done should you ever need to take care of business, my preference is .45 caliber, no offense to the 9mm crowd.

Glock makes a great product and has a very large and loyal crowd, but your choice of manufacturers is wide. Take a look at SiG,
Walther and Springfield (the Springfield XD) which is a good rival to Glock.

A shotgun doesn't need to be an expensive model/brand for home use, you want function, quality but whats practical. In 12 or
20 gauge, I think most guys would opt for the 12 ga. as would I. Get the shortest barrel and overall length possible, with the heaviest
3" magnum buckshot you can find.
