PhilippinesAPPROVED!! :-) What is seminar? Do you have to do it?

Thanks for the quick answer.

Thank you for the affirmation. I'm glad one less thing to do.

You bet!

However, I am not sure how Philippine immigration will respond when your fiancee (when she does travel back, I know she will be your wife) travels back to the Philippines, then seeks to leave the country with that K-1 visa in her passport and no CFO sticker. Even if the visa was issued from a consulate other than USEM, I have no idea how they would handle that. Maybe someone that has dealt with that issue will chime in.

Maybe having a GC will make a difference, I don't know.

My filipina fiancee is currently in Dubai. If she travels to the U.S. from there, will she still need to do this CFO?

No she will not in your case. Attending the CFO seminar is a requirement of the Philippine government, before a national
can exit the the Philippines. Flying from Dubai, your fiancee will avoid the need thereof.

Follow-up on the original question... Do I have to undergo the CFO Seminar even if I have been in and out of the US for business and personal travel? Thanks for your inputs! :)

The CFO seminar is one of the requirements for those granted immigrant type visas, not B-1/B-2 type. So if you get a immigrant visa, you will need the CFO seminar.

It is an extortion racket run by the Philippines, operating on the assumption that the little immigrant children need big daddy government to wipe their poopie butts for them. They're going to inform her of things like VAWA, which is available here for free and is also far more accurate and up-to-date.

Be sure and show the proper attitude to the bureaucrats empowered by this law: Thank you daddy dear, I would be lost without you. I am on my knees now for your precious sticker.

Well said...

I thought I was the only one to feel the Philippine (nanny-state) government was
a bunch of 'let me hold your hand and wipe your nose for you' types that crank out such nonsense as CFO.

More of the 'you're too stupid to take care of yourself' so we need to do it for you.' I guess they have some
of the best nanny-state clowns in the world to emulate when they look at the U.S.

We have VAWA to protect the women of the world from American men seeking a foreign mate, because 3 or 4 jerks decided
to "off" their foreign born wives.

PhilippinesAPPROVED!! :-) What is seminar? Do you have to do it?

I have read a lot of post on here about a CFO seminar.

What is it and you do have to do it?

After our visa was approved the Embassy did not say anything about the need to attend a seminar or anything else

Is this only for couples who are already married or is this also needed for K-1?

If so where do we go how do we set it up and do we need to wait until she gets her passport back?

How long does it take and how much does it cost?

CFO = Commission On Filipinos Overseas

Yes it is required or your lovely fiancee will not be allowed to leave the country.

The registration fee = P650.00 and it takes a couple of hours of her time to complete.

Your fiancee will need to attend the seminar before or after she gets her visa.

If she attends the seminar before she is issued the fiance(e) visa she must return with her visa and get the
CFO sticker in her passport. If she waits until after the visa is issued, she can get the sticker once the seminar
is complete, no need to return to get the sticker.

Philippineshow to bring my spouse to the USA

I would marry there first then do the 130 Visa. I wish I had married last year before I came back. Looks like a lot less paperwork. Suggestion: Do you or your family have anyone that will hire you knowing you're coming back? Getting a job here is not easy anymore. I never had been unemployed prior to 2010 and it took me 23 months to take a lower paying job in Management. I am okay with it as I can do my K1 and happy to finally be back at work. I would hate for you to be separated from your family. And raising soon 3 kids in USA is not cheap.. You sure did turn Pinoy na lol with so many kids in short timeframe. Love the Philippines... Good luck

PhilippinesRequirements

The terminal fee per passenger at NAIA was reduced to P550 on February 1 this year from P750. The fee was raised to P750 in 2007 to fund the acquisition of state-of-the-art security equipment at the airport terminals.

But here is the kicker.

After lowering it to P550 on February 1, the government is considering bringing the airport terminal fee paid by outbound passengers at the country's main gateway back up to P750 to finance badly needed improvements in airport facilities.

Transport Secretary Manuel "Mar" Roxas II said a P200 hike in terminal fees for international passengers was necessary to improve the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) terminals, which have been repeatedly cited in international polls as among the worst in the world. "Terminal fees will have to go back up to P750 per passenger. That's being processed right now," Roxas told a press conference on Monday, but declined to give a specific schedule for the increase.

http://globalnation....ike-airport-fee

Knew it was too good to be true and it would not last long. LOL!! Enjoy the discount now. The fees will be going back up again to P750.

Fees and taxes = the crack cocaine of politicians and bureaucrats.

Mr. Edwards,

In the case of Pinky, the petition in superior court should have occurred before her 21st birthday. Petitioning her now could no longer constitute legitimation since she already reached the age of 21. If you want to undergo DNA test to prove that she is your daughter, you may do so. However, positive results of DNA would not help resolve the legal issues between you and Pinky, for purposes of derivative citizenship.

Hi Mr. Wilde,

Thanks for your reply I appreciate it. What recourse would I have now , am I still able to petition a superior court judge for legitimation for Pinky now . As to DNA although it wound not establish legal relationship wouldnt it prove paternity and then I could petition the court for a legal relationship and American citizenship for Pinky? Thanks for any assistance from you and your office.

Dear Mr. Edwards:

I refer to your letter dated April 17, 2008 regarding the United States citizenship claim of Pinky Yabut (DPOB: March 28, 1975, Philippines).

Pinky Yabut's application for derivative U.S. citizenship was disapproved under Section 301(a)(7) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), as made applicable under Section 309(a) of the same Act. The reason for the disapproval is because she was not legitimated under Philippine or U.S. law. For purpose of derivative citizenship, DNA testing will not be helpful to establish a legal relationship. It only establishes biological relationship.

Under Philippine law, Pinky is not considered legitimated because you were never married to her mother. Under the U.S. law you did not meet the legitimation requirement of the state of North Carolina , your legal residence after Pinky's birth and before her 21st birthday. In the state of North Carolina for legitimation occurs only if the father file a petition before a Superior Court in the North Carolina , which you did not do.

I am sorry that this is not the answer you were hoping for. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to write.

Sincerely,

Bradley G. Wilde

Wow, sad that families have to remain apart because of governmental technicalities, no allowance for extenuating circumstances.

PhilippinesAmerasians

It was 1988 when he was stationed in Subic. Most of his experiences I find it quite hilarious. Most of the time, they had to go out in a group coz they were being told that going alone isn't safe at all. One time they went into a bar and local girls started talking to them, the girl that my husband was talking to looked very young and was the daughter of the bar owner (he didn't know at first), the father approached their table and asked if he wants to marry his daughter...LOL

I have multiple thoughts about the whole issue of the movie. It saddened both me and my husband how the film was presented. Reality wise, some of those service men had a serious relationship with women who were not sex workers but for some reason that we don't know and not for us to judge, lost communications with each other after the Base was closed.

Although almost at the end of the movie they showed few White Amerasians too but I wish it was presented clearly on the movie why the 4 stories only evolved on black Amerasians? I kinda understand that probably they tried to portray the struggles of the black amerasians to fit in in Filipino society or in any society in general. For a country that is deeply rooted from Hispanic values and beliefs, ..."the whiter you are the prettier you are..." When you are an illegitimate child of white father you don't get the same criticism as of those child with black father.

In the case of Margarita, I think what the director implied is the cause and effect of the situation. MAYBE if Margarita's grandpa didn't abandoned her dad (just an assumption since it wasn't specified in the film) they should have a better life? Just a thought...

I wish the director and Robert (the journalist in the film) has blog of where they can answer all our questions. :)

Ok, I'm confused. When was your husband talking to a young girl in a bar...I guess I missed something.

I flew into Clark AFB many times for a vacation from Okinawa, I could have married many times. At the time, being a young man, I had no idea the significance of the many proposals, now I certainly understand. And you're correct, many of those relationships were very loving and committed relationships with Pinays that had no connections to bars or prostitution.

I would do too. Money is nothing compared to identity.

But then again, what would the "hecktivists" gain if they went for equal protection? No "dole outs" for them, no share either.

It's about the $68 million in the 1993 case, not the kids.

:bonk:

Correct! I'm sure the kids would have taken citizenship and the chance for a better life over money. It was the educated fools in charge and the lawyers that ran in the wrong direction with the ball. Shameful how greed will cloud judgement.
LeatherneckMalePhilippines2011-10-19 23:58:00

and they got slaughtered

Bad legal advice, as a non lawyer I would've advised to stay away from the monetary aspect and go for the "equal protection."
Just as you mentioned. Now they have no compensation of any kind, legal nor monetary.
LeatherneckMalePhilippines2011-10-19 23:47:00
PhilippinesAmerasians

I guess, they were bitter that they lost the $68 million lawsuit in 1993 against the Navy

It was a bad strategy (the lawsuit). I do not believe that the US taxpayers should be shouldering the cost, but I believe the kids should be given the option of having access to the US. Maybe, they have a chance if they questioned the constitutionality of the Homecoming Act (equality clause).

I guess they never heard the ole adage, "hogs get slaughtered, pigs get fed."
LeatherneckMalePhilippines2011-10-19 23:27:00
PhilippinesAmerasians

Agreed. They might as well say relinquish their Philippine citizenship because over the past dacades, the Philippines has not been really well economically (very high poverty rate)

One more thing: the same people saying that were the one complaining of the exclusion of the Philippines in the 1982 Ameasian Homecoming Act.

That makes it all more stranger.

:bonk:

Exactly the message, just verbalized differently. Then again, misery does love company.

I had posted a link for you last week perhaps you missed it.What I dont like about LBTS is that it is sort of anti-American and it tries to portray all the Filipinas as sex workers. I try to tell people that these were committed relationships ,personally I never saw a lot of sex workers when I was in the PI in the 70's.

LeatherneckMalePhilippines2011-10-19 22:55:00

MY THOUGHTS.

One more thing: It also portrays that Amerasians in general have "pyschological problems". The pyschological problem is not limited to a certain group of people. Even "pure Filipinos" go through that especially from those come from dyfunctional families.

It is no wonder the Amerasians don't like it :bonk: Even with the trailer. I remember Ate Rose being so enraged. LOL

But then again, what do you expect from a documentary tainted with political agenda.

Some of the "interviewees" (not the Amerasians) have complained of the exclusion of the Philippines in the 1982 Act, but in their Facebook group, when the topic of citizenship was brought up, the same people told the Amerasians "what would you do with US citizenship given the US economy".

Now, folks, go figure! :bonk:

Given citizenship has no relevance to the economy, that is a rather strange attitude.
LeatherneckMalePhilippines2011-10-19 22:53:00

I am afraid the film is unconsciously or consciously singling out black fathers. It might not be the intention but anyone could misread it.

I have to add: I think the "second generation" Margarita is quite irrelevant. Her father might have been mixed, but it was the mother who left the family.

Correct...

Hey sweetpink,
Have you noticed that the children featured were all black Amerasians. I dunno if the ones who "gave" the Amerasians(WedPro) is trying to imply something. However, the "all black Amerasian" featurette left me uncomfortable. I wonder what about those who have White and Hispanic fathers.

Yes I did notice that. We know (those familiar) this was a issue with men of all colors.

I'm not sure if it was 10 years ago. But PSBF stopped "concentrating" on Amerasians and shifted their policy to indigent children in general.

But still, many thanks to PSBF sponsors and donors. They have been helping a lot.

That really is a sad situation for the sons and daughters left behind suffering from this stigma. Dark skin is an issue in the Philippines, it is
one thing to be a dark skin native Filipino, but you get a double whamy if you have darker skin and physical features because your father is black.

Heres how that works! The Security Officers have a podium with phone right outside Main Entrance. When your guests come to visit you they will ask them the name of the Guest they come to visit. they have a list of ALL guests in the Hotel. they look for your name on the list and room number. they then will call your room and state that so and so is here to visit you. YOU give the ok to have them enter and use Elevator to come to your room, its that simple. thats all it is about the screening process. Registered guests they already know by your comings and going and will not ask you anything just greet you and open entrance Glass door for you. They have your Comfort and Security in mind! Oh BTW if you have guest accompanied by you, they wont say anything. Its the individuals that come alone they screen!

Ok great, although the rates are closer to $58.00 rather than $40.00, I will keep them high on the list, considering my next trip will be a 3 month stay.
I checked the reviews and the website, looks nice for the price.

if you're planning to stay for a minimum of 1 months.... there's a lot of condo that are for rent-short term and long term... the cheapest i had was P35,000 in The Fort Area and we stayed there for 1 month... there's a lot of condo in Makati and The Fort Area that offers same range of price and higher... these condos are fully furnish...

my husband before stayed in A. Venue hotel in Makati for 1 month and paid P115,000... the second time he went home we stayed in condo and paid P35,000... A LOT OF SAVINGS! more for shopping!

Yes, A.Venue is not for the budget conscious if you will stay for a month, but it is nice.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to stay there, sounds like a good reasonable place to stay and not break the bank. I tend to gravitate to Makati, I like the feel of the area, the restuarants and the shopping.

With the screening of "everyone that comes in" how will guest accompanied by me be treated? Will they get screened or will they be allowed to enter without delay or hassle?

I appreciate your input.
