I never used a lawyer. Its a waste of time and money because everything is so simple. Just follow instructions and you will be fine. I mailed our petition july 3 and tomorrow she has her visa interview.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresRFE to show we met in person. HELP!

Does that really happen? Where some papers are lost? That is probably not likely since I MEGA-stapled everything together.

Stapling is bad, and could be possible how they lost your papers in trying to unstaple them. They tear your entire packet apart and reorganize it how they want it. Sounds like you sent all the evidence in, so I would suggest just to resend it. It is not necessary to give a detailed account as to how your relationship started or how you met initially like online or whatever. Your response in to how you met physically in person is all that is required and should fit in the box on the I-129f form, and you already sent in the evidence proving it. Just resend it again.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat are the consequences of not marrying your fiance?
Dont worry so much about what will or can happen in the future...focus on today. If you are sure about your desire to marry then continue!! But if there is an ounce of doubt you need to reconsider your plans. I understand you want to know every possible scenario but honestly if you are dead set on getting married and starting a life together you shouldnt even be thinking about them.

If she decides to overstay, that is her problem and her consequences. Nothing happens to you unless you know about it or even help her.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureshow long should be a relatishonship before k1
One of the requirements for the I-129f petition is to have met each other in person within the last 2 years. To the USCIS and this petition process, it does not matter if you have only known each other one day, just as long as you have met and seen each other in person. Now for your consulate you may need to have a longer relationship, but that is for the second stage of the process after your petition is approved.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-129F Financial Support
I included the last 3 year tax transcripts, and in fact the piece of paper they give you to organize your documents says specifically they want a copy of your taxes for 2010 (don't know why it didn't say 2011 which is why I included all 3 years). As far as your past income, they will consider more your present income. In my case, I included a cosponsor because my past income, which is shown on my tax transcripts, doesn't even come close to what I would need to provide. However my current income is more than enough. The first lady that took our documents, actually gave back my cosponsor papers because what I had included in mine was just fine. My fiancee got approved with just my financial information.

In short, you will need your tax return transcripts and you should bring a cosponsor JUST IN CASE however more than likely you will not need one.

I wouldn't bother calling the embassy about it, just keep checking every day for available interview slots. It's possible that a lot are trying to get slots before the holidays and that's why it's so busy. When I payed the visa fee the closest interview date they had available was 2 weeks later, but we couldn't schedule for like a month at least. Just have patience, and when you see a date, grab it!

Any US citizen or Permanent resident can be a co sponsor.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresConsidering Grad School during K-1 visa process
First of all, no matter what you decide to do you will be OK as long as you can provide proof of continued financial support. This can come from you, or from a co sponsor. She doesn't need to mention that you might be in Puerto Rico, unless the consulate officer specifically asks her. They will look at your financial information (the I-134, and supporting documentation) and more than likely will not question anything more than that. They will also more than likely base their decision off of your CURRENT income. So as far as being approved for the visa, this will not be an issue.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVaccinations needed for Colombian

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is the government agency that determines which vaccinations are required for immigrants to the United States. This page has valuable information that we can all use:
http://www.cdc.gov/i...structions.html
My fiancee is 27 years old. According to the table with the age specific vaccination requirements she only has to get 3 vaccinations: Td/Tdap, Measles, Mumps, and Rubella and Varicella. I will bring this information with me when I go to her medical examination/interview in case the panel physician suggests that she needs more vaccinations. This is also a valuable piece of information from this page:
Vaccination Documentation for Refugees and Non-Immigrant Applicants
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has determined that vaccination requirements do not apply to refugees and non-immigrants, such as V or K visa applicants, at the time of their initial admission to the United States. However, V and K visa holders in addition to refugees must meet the vaccination requirements when applying for adjustment of status or permanent resident status in the United States (one year or more after arrival). Therefore, for refugee applicants, panel physicians must complete a U.S. Department of State Vaccination Documentation Worksheet (DS-3025) if reliable documents are available.
The only reason for you to get the vaccinations in Colombia or whichever country your fiance is from, it is probably cheaper than getting them in the United States.

You are right about the 3 required vaccinations. However keep in mind that whatever vaccinations the panel doctor says you need, you need to get in order to complete your medical exam. And the only reason to get the vaccinations in Colombia is not because they are cheaper, but because they are required.
aws&nddMaleColombia2012-11-23 00:50:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVaccinations needed for Colombian
You can try getting some of the vaccinations within a couple weeks of your medical exam, and if the doctor thinks it is good you won't have to get it again. The ones for sure you will need are MMR, TD and varicella. You will also need influenza since it is the flu season here.

With that said, my fiancee got influenza at a cheaper rate, and Dr. Dennis still made her get it again.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresInterview next week- is original I-129f petition needed?
I don't know how the UK is, but in Colombia it is not required. In fact when we had our interview, the consulate officer had our I-129f petition opened in front of him, all with the notes that they added while it was being processed. Don't know why but I found it fascinating.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuick Question about the Start of the K1VISA?
Best advice is to read the K-1 guide above. It gives a detailed list of what you SHOULD include in your I-129f packet. Also take the time to look at some example forms. The affidavit of support is not required for the I-129f petition. Things I included in my petition:

Cover letter
I-129f form
Supplement to I-129f explaining how I met my fiancee
G-325A and a passport size photo (one form and photo for each of us)
Copies of all pages of my passport
Certified copy of my divorce decree
Signed letters of intent to marry (one from each of us)
Copies of boarding passes, hotel receipts, passport stamps
10 photos of us together
Copies of cell phone bills indicating calls made

Keep in mind with the I-129f petition you need to prove 3 things: You are a US citizen, you are legally free and willing to marry, you have met within the last 2 years. This is all you need to include with your petition.
aws&nddMaleColombia2012-11-27 21:13:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 Visa - When is the best time to file application?
As long as she signs a letter of intent to marry you, you should be OK. Depending how you feel about it, I would consider proposing first and then sending the petition. To me it wouldn't seem right to propose by asking her to mail you a letter of intent. And since January is only about a month away you really aren't losing a lot of time. The processing times can go rather quickly, or they can drag on.... And length of time in your relationship is not important to USCIS, just that you have met within 2 years. The embassy in Costa Rica may care but I couldn't answer that. I have been with my fiancee (as a couple before we were engaged) for less than a year, and we were approved no problem.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat should the I-129F packet look like?
First of all I think you did an excellent job with your packet! You should also include your boarding passes as primary proof of meeting. The airline tickets are nice, but it doesn't prove you actually were on the plane, just that you bought the tickets. A boarding pass proves you were on that plane and that you actually went. Your relationship proof (from item 6 to 11) really isn't needed, although it won't hurt. Keep in mind you don't want your packet to be too large. I don't know if it would really make that big a difference, but for me I'd be scared if I made mine too large and they skipped over mine to do a smaller packet.

I had about 10 photos with my packet as well, and I put them all in a ziplock bag, and I stapled the bag to a sheet of paper. I actually used 2 bags to document pictures from 2 different visits, and I labeled each bag as such.

To keep my papers organized, I just used paper clips. I didn't fasten anything. I just put all my papers in a priority mail envelope at the post office and mailed it.

My packet was around 40 pages. The only proof I included in my packet was: boarding passes, itineraries, hotel receipts, passport stamps, cell phone bills indicating calls made, money transfer receipts.

I hope this helps!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNewbie - K1 Visa for my Romanian Girlfriend
First...most people have met online through one form or another. I met my fiancee initially online. Any proof of relationship, including chat logs, are acceptable. And digital pictures can still be printed and submitted as evidence ;)

Second...the process could take at least 5 months to receive an approval on your petition plus another month or 2 to get an interview date. You would be wise to start now, because it still may take longer than next Aug to get the visa.

Third...she doesnt need a passport until after you receive an approval on your I-129f petition, so she can wait a few months--no big hurry.

Fourth...you will not be able to help her parents get a tourist visa to come here. They have to apply on their own.

Hope this helps!!!
