Congrats, Leo! :D

So it has been really nice to read how fast some peoples approval came from the California center. I will be filing there hopefully in April or May. I sure hope it's as speedy as everyone else has been :) Any advice on what is that best way to send, USPS or UPS...any other delivery services that will get it there sooner? does it matter? Thanks everyone!

USPS is better. I went with express for $17, because it's got personal information in it, and the last thing I need is my identity stolen and USPS stays on it like whoa for express, and express requires signatures. That said: Taiwan's absolutely right, there's no chronological order dibs once in the system. It really doesn't matter for the initial petition.

HOWEVER, if you get a request for further evidence (RFE), I do recommend overnighting it - RFEs are time sensitive and even priority isn't guaranteed in the window they give; I've had priority mail take 7-10 days to go 110 miles.

Looking at the consulate's website:

The fiancé(e) visa packet of a biographic data form DS-230-I Part I, Form DS-156 (in duplicate), Form DS-156K, (in duplicate), Form DS-157 (in duplicate), Form DS-2000 and a document checklist, form IV-15K.

You need to download, fill out (as applicable), and print:
  • DS-230 - fill out Part I only
  • DS-156 (and print a second copy) <-- online form
  • DS-156K (and print a second copy)
  • DS-157 (and print a second copy)
  • IV-15K <--- unique to the UK

Don't sign any of the 156/156K forms, as that's done at the interview. Mail them to the Immigrant Visa Unit at 5 Upper Grosvenor Street, London, W1A 2JB.

They do make reference to a DS-2000, but I don't know anything about it - Brazil requires the I-134 form instead. Some places on the consulate's website references mailing it with the other paperwork, others say they just need the 230/156/156K/157.

You can see examples of the forms here on VJ, if you need more help and how the forms should be filled out :)

Yaaaaay Marcos! :D

I'm hoping kalay will get her NOA2 today or tomorrow & lostinlove will shortly follow. jhay hasn't been around to update, but I'm guessing they probably passed - I don't think I've ever heard of anyone here being denied in Manila without something major issue.

L got some bad news yesterday -- the landlord sold the apartment his family rents and they've 10 days to move. Oy, what a shitty thing to do, their lease isn't up for another six months. Just what he needs to be worrying about with all the immigration crapola we have to finalize (not to mention, taking off work, etc) - he thought they'd be fine where they're at until he was here and couldn't do anything about it.

It's really good that I had been a slacker yesterday, I was going to mail Easter candies (and this really cute card I found on etsy), but it looks like it would've arrived at the wrong apartment now! When everything's settled, I "get" to go and inform USCIS that he's moved, and he'll do the same to the Embassy (so everyone's got the same page).

I think you're very thorough, Leo, though I don't see the medical on the results -- is that something that isn't necessary in the PI? (In Brazil, you're responsible for scheduling your own medical and bringing the documents.) As well, Brazil also requires 2 passport photos and the DS 230 (pt 1), as any other US immigration stuff (eg, previous visa attempts), but I don't know if those are required for the PI and maybe were taken care of already.

I would agree with Chi Na that that many chat logs probably isn't necessary, but it's better to be over-prepared than under.

Hey Chi Na, are you still waiting for your NOA2? You or your fiancé(e) should probably poke the CSC officers -- while it hasn't yeeeeeet been 5 months, you're getting close.

Gary, any word about Cecilia?

Then you need to contact USCIS and let them know NVC doesn't have your petition and what needs to happen to move on. Hopefully one of you has a full copy of your petition, otherwise you're going to have to recompile everything.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsOctober 2009 K-1 Visa filers
I don't know that there's no reason to track when it left USCIS. You can look at the status and see when it was last updated (which you must be registered for, if you just have the case number, all you get is whether or not it was approved) - every time it's moved from place A to B, it gets scanned, beit from arrival to storage, storage to the adjudicator, and so forth. When I was approved, we were touched on the 15th (the day we were approved) and then we were also touched on the 18th. Given that NVC received it on the 22nd, and it's in NH, it's completely reasonable that it took ~4 days to go from Cali to NH and get to the point within NVC processing that it was assigned a case number.

But that doesn't say if it was actually shipped, just that it was moved.

Gary, I'm so sorry to hear about Cecilia's accident. I hope they're just keeping her overnight for observation and she wasn't too hurt and gets well soon.

Leenie, congrats on the "official" proposal! We did the same thing - decided to get married in September, filed in October, and he "officially" proposed on New Year's. :)

I don't know if this will delay the interview or not -- I've heard that TB exposure is fairly common in PI.

They may allow the interview and give a conditional approval (upon passing medical).

But if she's got TB, even with the 2mo delay of this test, it'll be another 2-6 months before she'll be able to get a green light.

Since there's a limit to when the medical's valid, I wouldn't be surprised if they ask you to delay the interview for the tb test, though.

I would guess the best thing is to contact the consulate to see if they want a reschedule in two months.

Sorry about the delay :(

I'm really excited about my next trip to Brazil, for the interview. We're going back to his town the day after the interview, and his family's throwing us a small get together! :)

It is STILL quaking in South America (even in Brazil), but they're starting to settle down -- the ones in Brazil are in the 2s, and even Chile's are getting under 5. I bet it'll be a few more days before they're done.

Good luck to the fianc?es of jhay and drdave, who are interviewing tomorrow and the next day. Pop back and let us know when you're approved! :)

I feel well enough to make a run to the store this afternoon, but I stayed home again just to make sure I don't pass this bad boy on.

I've kind of gone into vacation overdrive, looking at restaurants and things to do in New Orleans (where we're having the wedding). I'm pretty laid back once I go on vacation, but I like knowing the options before I leave (and have a few restaurant reservations!). I know some of the places we're eating at, and I think the rest we'll let go with the flow.

Awww :( When was the last time it was touched? You can go here to create an account (with your WAC#) and see when it was last updated, if you haven't already.

Beth, you ebbil woman, you gave me your cold -- you should have kept it to yourself! :jest: I finally feel almost human (no thanks to the combined powers of spicy chicken noodle soup and onion soup... or time). I suppose on the bright side, it's been all snowy and icky and I've been stuck on my couch, abusing my streaming Netflix with tea and juice and lots of water.

Caveman, I can't speak *specifically* about Manila, because every consulate and doctor is different. ceceila-gary and jhay will be able to give better advice for their quirks (or anyone in the Philippines regional forum!).

In Brasil, for the medical, you need your passport, a passport-sized photograph, and your NVC case number. You do not need your NOA2 or NVC number. You can do your medical before you get your date from the embassy, but it's cautioned against because the medical is only good for 6 months (or a year -- and unfortunately, that ambiguity is something mentioned in the Brasilian medical letter).

Dear Applicant,

In order to be eligible for an immigrant visa, you and any accompanying relatives included in the application must undergo a medical examination. It is necessary to conduct blood tests, a chest x-ray, vaccinations and a physical exam (including basic gynecological and breast examination, if applicable).

The doctor, which the applicant may choose from the accompanying list, must inform the laboratories to do blood tests, x-rays of the lungs, and vaccination titer levels.

The applicants must present their passport to the doctor and to the lab as proof of identity. If the passport is not available, the Brazilian ID or the equivalent for non-Brazilian citizens can be used.

Applicants should present a 3x4cm picture to the doctor at the moment of the clinical examination and inform the case number, if available. (K visa applicants must submit 03 (three) photos.)

The doctor’s fee is paid directly by the applicant. It cannot exceed US$ 130.00. Laboratory fees are also paid by the applicant.

The medical examination is generally valid for one year. In some cases the validity is only six months. This generally occurs when the applicant has some kind of illness.

The sealed Medical Report must be presented on the day of the interview.

I don't know how long it takes St Luke's to complete the medical exams, but the doctor recommended here for Brazil, Dr J Duarte, has the exams done within 4 hours. He does not send the information to the embassy, but gives you a sealed envelope to take to the interview.

That said, I believe (from seeing signature timelines throughout VJ) that St Luke's takes two days for the exams, and may not be immediately available. I think it should be possible for her to have her medical and interview within 5 days of each other. But that entirely depends on the schedule of the hospital and of the embassy and how long it typically takes the laboratory to complete the tests.

And for the interview, the passport should be sufficient. She needs it anyway once she's approved for the visa! If she wants to bring her national ID card, more power to her. (I know L doesn't travel without about a half dozen different forms of state-issued ID between the ID card, the military waiver, his driver's license, etc.)

Oh, this is weird, Rio sent me the packet 4 hard copy! The good news is it clearly states $131 as the price. So, whatever. Regardless of what happens, we're good to go - if they don't change it, I'll spend spring break in Salvador (and his parents will throw a small engagement party, since they won't be doing a wedding), and we'll fly to Rio on Sunday, do the medical on Monday, and interview Tuesday, and I'll be back on Wednesday.

Our wedding is going to be really small - basically, a glorified civil ceremony. I spend my summers working in Arizona, so we're going to drive back and stop in New Orleans for a few days to get married down in Riverside Park (on the banks of the Mississippi, off of the French Quarter). We found a photographer that will do it by the hour (and only one hour, which'll be plenty of time) and an officiant, and we're talking to a few florists about the the bouquet.

Have you got a date yet, Beth?

We're not going to hear back from the consulate regarding changing the date until next week because of Carnaval. I'm hoping to get 6 April, but from what Bruna & Mitch told me, they may make us wait for a full month to reschedule. Since we're going for a July POE / August wedding, late April is fine, too, but I'd rather have it early April to get the whole thing over with!

Oh, BTW, since I know people were curious... as I mentioned, I ended up on the phone with NVC and RDJ the last two days, trying to figure out why RDJ didn't have the petition and NVC had confirmation my date had been sent and received. Anyway, when I was chatting with Rio, I was told the interview's still $131 for our date *and* the date we're trying to change to (in early April, the week immediately after Easter, so we can spend Easter together). But, as always ... who knows if that'll end up actually happening. They've been so quiet as to when they're going to roll out the increase ...

AFAIK, you have four months from consular receipt to complete packet 3 (though it might be 4 months from getting packet 3).

Is Lithuania a country that will automatically deny your petition without the sponsor, or one of the ones that will say "send us a co-sponsor and your visa will be approved"?

I blame my new French press - with the finely ground coffee I brought back from Brazil it's like a caffeine injection! (And I saw someone doing it in one of the other topics and thought, hey, that's an awesome way to see what's up, and it'll be great in April as we're looking at the sea of approvals and upcoming interviews!)

Anyway, I was snowed in yesterday and looks like I am today and maybe tomorrow as well. I take this to be a bonus wedding planning time - get 'er done, because after the interview, I'm crazy busy. I think I'm going to finish our registry, talk to some florists about doing color substitutions in a standard nosegay (freesia, hydrangea, roses) for our desired date, look for the silk flower hairpiece I want instead of a veil, play with announcement text, and talk with a friend of mine who does jewelry on etsy about a necklace.

We don't have a date yet - the consulate emailed us on Friday saying they just got our petition and they have to enter it in, but they think we will be given an early April date on Monday or Tuesday, which is good 'cause that's what we want! :)

We've finished all our paperwork, and he's calling the physician after we've got the date. (L called his insurance and found out that since the exam's basically a physical, std test, and tb test, it's ALL COVERED!) All that's left is our plane tickets there and finding a hotel! I'm excited - never been to Rio.

This week, I'm buying our wedding bands. It's tradition in Brazil to wear the wedding bands as engagement rings, on the right hand.

Call them back and say you haven't gotten your NOA1 after nearly 5 months.

Beth: I believe all of the CSC numbers begin with WAC and the VSC start with EAC.

I can't edit, but the last guy to get a date for Rio on VJ was given his date last week (on the 29th) for the 16th of March and was told $131 still applied.

The $350 fee hasn't been officially implemented, and even the DoS website still says $131. I'm gonna ask the other person interviewing in Rio if they were told $131 or $350 for the interview and see what they say -- they've got a late March interview.

Congrats Jess & Carl and Liberty!

It's been more than 3 months we have not heard from the USCIS, no receipt, nothing.

Beyond calling them, if you look at the back of the cancelled check, there should be a WAC#.

I have no clue, unless they want stamped tax transcripts. Notaries can't prove those were your taxes, just that you're the person on the tax sheet.

PhilippinesBroadcasting wedding live on the 'net
That is an awesome idea!! I really like the idea of a garden wedding. Even better the idea of broadcasting it live for her family to see it as well. If you have really good internet I don't see any problems with it. How will you broadcast? Will you do it through Skype or another similar software?

PhilippinesI-134 Form Signing
If you are talking about the line that is inside the "Oath or Affirmation", that is a place to initial that you have read it. You don't need to sign it twice, just sign the bottom and initial the spot in the Oath or Affirmation.

PhilippinesThinking about bribing St. Lukes
Don't be an idiot. Seven months is insignificant in the scheme of things.
