I'm here - here I am! lol

NEIL GOT APPROVED!!!!!! kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif

I tried to get some more sleep (didn't really happen) since I have to work tonight. Neil texted me at 6:30 this morning to tell me! He said it was easy, they only asked a few questions. He was kept entertained by the fact that Martin Kemp from Spandau Ballet was in front of him in line to get a visa. huh.gif

Although, as tired as he is, he may have been hallucinating that part. whistling.gif

I have to thank you guys - all of you. Kristin, how sweet to come here and see how much we've been on your mind today, made me feel so good. Marie, you've been such a great friend to me through this whole process. Everyone in this group - don't know how I would have possibly made it without you guys. I truly cannot wait until we are all feeling this moment.

Zahid, I'm sorry about your passport. I hope you find a solution soon. I know you will, I know that nothing will stop your love.

Congrats!!!

I'm taking a poll:

How many times a day did people call NVC?

Yes - humor me.

Someone told me only call once a day in the evening.

Seems kind of hard to do that.

I was thinking Morning, Afternoon and Evening (This seems a little OCD - although not surprising for me)

I think that their system only updates once a day anyway and it seems to be 24 hours behind ...

Or I don't feel like working- So I thought I would write this post.

Have a great start of a new week everyone.

Should we start calling you Monk?

M and F - Thank you and wishing you a speedy journey as well. You got the most important thing out of the way, and now it should be a breeze.

roughsweet - Thank you and wishing you all the best as well smile.gif Your interview is in just 5 days. It will be fine I am sure of it, we just have to keep thinking happy thoughts.

Congrats to M and F and best wishes for Star and roughsweet on the interviews. I'm hoping everyone at CSC got all rested up on their long weekend and is ready to crank out some more approvals. (mine included lol)

Steve

Thanks for the kind wishes, Steve. I'll be sending many your way as well. I hate it when they use the "within the 5 month processing time" to cover their butts, as if 5 months is the norm. If it actually TOOK 5 months most of the time, it might be an explanation. But the truth is, it usually doesn't. It just keeps you from being able to do anything about it, which is unfair. sad.gif

Stay on them just like Marie did. She was sending copies of August filers getting approved to her congressman's office at the end. Whether it works or not, it gives you something to do. How frustrating!

We will all be sending up strong wishes for your speedy approval. smile.gif

Not neurotic, in love!

Yes, it is difficult the waiting but for me, I just keep praying and having faith that when Rezq gets here from Egypt that it will be God's perfect timing. We miss each other terribly. Today I skipped a family reunion because if I had gone, we wouldn't have been able to talk at ease. Saturday is the only day we can without one or the other suffering sleep exhaustion! LOL! My Rezq stays up until 12:30 am every night to talk with me for a few short moments during the week on Skype. Sunday's are usually busy for both of us so Saturday is our only rest day. It takes a little sacrifice to talk with each other, patience when you hear nothing, and for myself since I am a person of faith, a lot of prayer and reading the Word to get through the time apart. Plus as many hours as we can squeeze in to talk face to face each day through Skype. If we didn't have our time together, it would be miserable! I experienced that last Saturday because I went out on Saturday to watch my youngest brother play baseball and didn't get to talk to Rezq at all. I was miserable!! Chin up, my friend. It will all work out as it is supposed to. We just got to keep faith! Blessings to you!!

I hope your wedding days are fabulous, Beth (Friday), Rito (Saturday) and corcor (Sunday)! :)
(By the way, Rito, we're also getting married in Vegas, but not by Elvis - my mom would flip! Did you do the online "pre-registration" for the marriage license?)

Caveman, I hope your other half's POE goes smoothly, as well!

kristik, have they given you a new interview date yet? You should follow up with them via email (if possible), to try to get them to email you the medical/interview dates. I don't know if your consulate will, but Brazil was always willing to talk with me (the USC petitioner) as well as L when it came to anything relating to our case. Just make sure your email has your name / DOB, his name / DOB, and your NVC case number. I worry that if the first one got lost in the mail, the second one may as well :(

Congrats to thekatokat, whose fiancée interviewed and was approved :)

lostinlove, still in AP? :(

Chi Na, have you gotten your Packet 3 yet?

keydymenro, NVC finally got your package? THAT IS SO AWESOME! They're so terrible for taking them FOUR MONTHS to send it to NVC! I'm glad NVC got through it quickly and it's in Honduras FINALLY! :) I don't know if Honduras does Packet 3/Packet 4, but either way, you're *finally* on your way to your interview.

Congrats corcor & gs! (And hopefully, congrats to Matt & Robot & thekatocat as well!)

@Leenie: They joke in Brazil that patriotism comes about every four years - during the World Cup. I actually wasn't surprised he asked to delay. But it's ok, when we decided to change the location and date (again <_<), we decided on a 7/7 wedding ... which happens to be the day of the second semifinals, and if Brazil is in 2G and makes it to the semifinals, that'll be their semifinals. We might end up missing the first half. Oh, and I promised that we won't be in transit the day of the finals, so we'll probably not stop at the Grand Canyon on our way back from Vegas

Ha, I don't have credit cards - I only had one, and when the credit crisis hit, they closed my account because I didn't buy much on it, and paid on time (silly thinking, they had no risk and consistent money coming from me), and even when I had one, I had opted out of the rewards program in exchange for a better interest rate. They're the actual miles I used flying to visit him in Brazil. I flew the same airline every trip (AA), and it's usually the cheapest airline for my primary airport, so it's one I frequently fly on to go elsewhere, too. :) I do have frequent flier miles with a few other airlines (United/Continental and AirTran), and many of the flights I take that aren't on those four airlines are partnered with one of them, so I'll get my miles applied that way.

Congrats to both Jessica&Carl and to Michael&Heidi! :D

Good luck next week - and happy mother's day for any mothers in here.

L got his visa Friday! We're going to wait til June to buy his tickets, I think. We're using my frequent flier miles for his tickets, so yay on that. He's going to end up going first class, because coach is considered peak and actually costs more miles than first class (which isn't peak)!

They said "you passed the interview, but need to go fix the passport."

So did anybody know did she have to itnerview again?
OR just submit the passport and they will stamp the visa.

Ultimately, you will need to double check with the consulate (who should have an email address on the website -- just email them with your NVC case number and whatever question you wanted to know). She might need to go back if they have to pay a courier (instead of providing a mailing envelope). She won't need to go for another interview, but may need to schedule a drop off with them once she has the new passport.

P.S Does anyone know the difference between the Blue piece of paper and the Pink piece of paper they give you after the interview?

Brazil does not issue papers after the interview. I 100% believe that (at least in Brazil) they know beforehand what the outcome will be and the whole thing is a formality. The COs already had the cards made for everyone who was approved to take down to the courier service, and a piece of paper for the one girl that was denied -- outside of the interview room, with no communication between the interviewer and the CO that passes things out.

Congrats, Chi Na! It's about time they approved you guys! :D

Hooray for your interview date, Leenie!

Good luck Monday, lilac! I'm actually in transite to Rio right now, for our interview on Tuesday. Epic layover - 9 hours. My laptop's down to 42% so I'm going to sign off for now. We're checking out of the hotel before the interview, I think. I'll update the lists on the 6th or so, and hopefully we'll have Caveman's interview date in there :)

M&H - I'm hopeful that with your negative early tests, your septum tests will also be negative and you can get your interview date :)

keydymenro - any updates? Are you gonna try to make them waive the fee?

You should see if they will waive the petition fee, since you are having to refile from their error. Also, you should request an expedite, because of your previous filing and two previous approvals.

Congrats on your approvals, Liberty & Krilli! Congrats on the wedding, Macaroni!!

Liberty - I asked my parents as a backup plan. (I make more than enough to be his sponsor, but I have a regular irregular kind of employment - I work full time only 3 months a year, and work part time the other 9.) If they had said no, I don't know what I would have done. Anyway, if the sponsor is an immediate relative, they need to have 3x the value in assets (so, $12,000) and I believe they knock off any debt on the assets before considering them (so, if you have a $100k house that's got a $90k mortgage left, you've only got a $10k asset), which is why some people have problem w/ the assets. If it's NOT an immediate relative, it's 5x the difference ($20,000). I don't know if your immediate relatives count as immediate relatives for the purpoes of sponsorship. If they told you 5x, then probably not.

Krilli - keep your cosponsor in mind when filing for AOS. You might not need it, you might. Some consulates only require 100%, not 125%, for the K1, but the AOS does require the 125%.

BTW, everyone: if you have target dates for POE/wedding in mind (even if you haven't been approved yet!), add them to your signature or otherwise let me know & I'll add you to the lists :)

Yay! Congrats, Beth! :D I'm guessing they need the apostille seal version of the decree - you can bring them a non-apostille (but certified) version to the places listed here and pay a dollar to get the seal. It should be super quick and easy if you've got a certified copy of your divorce decree laying around.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only 1 of the above links gets us to an actual form, and I cannot find the UK procedures on VJ anywhere! I don't know if I'm looking in the wrong places or what, and I'm getting just a tad stressed out! Ugh!
And, my parents are going to co sponsor or whatever, and I need to know if it's me or them that has to fill out the 134 form? Help! Please~

Most of those links were links to PDFs, not to electronic forms. The only one that was an electronic form was the DS-156. Right click on the other links and "save as" to save them to your computer.

Start with the DS-230 (from the State Department's list of forms -- and you can look at VisaJourney's example form DS-230 if you get stuck). It's two pages long (as you only fill out Part 1), and if you have your fiancé's GS-325 (biographical information) from the I-129F petition, you should be able to fill it out by yourself. Seriously - it's all super basic information until you hit the "all places lived since 16", "all places worked in the last 10 years" and "all educational institutes attended" (for the beneficiary), and some of that will be on the GS-325. There's also previous military service, and a list of times they've come to the US (and what kind of visa they used - VWP or tourist, etc). Whatever you don't know, ask your fiancé. It's the second most involved form (the most is the DS-156) and pretty much once you have that filled out, the majority of the other forms just fall out from there. It's two pages long, but you may need to have extra pages if your fiancé has moved around a lot, attended many schools, that sort of thing. This one may take some time, as there's a bunch of stuff that you may not know about your fiancé.

Then, fill out the DS-156 (an online form -- and you can look at VisaJourney's example form DS-156 if you get stuck). It's almost entirely information from the DS-230 Part 1, with some extra information about previous visas and criminal record

Then, do the DS-156K (from the State Department's list of forms -- and you can look at VisaJourney's example form DS-156K if you get stuck). It's all info that you needed to put in the DS-230 and GS-325 already, and it's only one page, so it'll be super fast and really easy.

Then, fill out the DS-157 (from the State Department's list of forms -- and you can look at VisaJourney's example form DS-157 if you get stuck). Like the DS-156K, it's almost all information from the DS-230, but with a few extra questions about previous travel/visas/passports, explosives and travel arrangements. It's one page and should be fairly fast.

Then, download and print off the IV-15K form (which VJ has no examples of, but is seriously just something you put your name on and check things off of before mailing, minimal actual information is involved).

You should consider starting a topic in the UK regional forum asking for help as they'll be more assistance than me -- Brazil has different requirements beyond filling out the DS-230 Pt 1, DS-156, DS-156K, DS-157, and I-134 (and then, we don't need that til our interviews). :)

For the I-134, both you AND your parents need to fill it out.

Looks like it is! We ended up getting rescheduled for the 4th of May. Not the greatest date, I have a final on the 6th D:

Looks like we're going to be rescheduled with the rest of the people who are having to cancel (or were cancelled by the consulate) for the 6th/7th/8th/9th. We've got priority over new petitions, but there's alot of us. Looks like on VJ, last week, they were already scheduling mid-May, so it may be early June for us :(

Due to the weather in Rio (96 dead from the rains and flooding so far), SDU is shut down, and it sounds like GIG might be going that way. L tried calling the consulate to find out what the deal was, during their business hours (after his airfare was shut down) and they said they were CLOSED, and his medical was closed, and everything. Fortunately, I was able to get it worked out that I can rebook the rest of my flight, but I'm presently stuck in Miami, bagless, and L's interview is probably gonna be cancelled by the consulate.

I am so ###### bummed right now.

I booked my flight to Brazil ... there's nothing like waiting to the last minute. (Though, in my defense: the airline I normally fly on is having a promotion right now through the end of June, so I knew that I'd be able to get a good fare price even though I'm leaving in just over a week.) I'm so excited to see L next week, and to have our visa interview, and to just move ON to finalizing the wedding plans and starting our life together in three months.

So, for those of you who aren't from English-speaking countries: are you getting your things translated before you leave for the AOS and just, life in general? L found a place that's "consulate approved" that's got reasonable rates (compared to prices we found in the US) for the translations -- for about $60US, we'll get everything translated (birth certificate, police clearance, school records). I know the translated bc is needed for the AOS and the school records will be needed when he tries to go to school here. The first place we found in the US was going to charge $50-75 for just the birth certificate, so I figure we're money ahead to just do a blanket translation.

I think I may have put that in thinking maybe CIS would do it right this time

Call the Congressman again already, eh?

And score! We found someone to translate his birth certificate into English for the AOS for the low, low price of $25US! The prices we found in the US were in the $50-90 range.

If she didn't give it, they haven't assigned it yet. IIRC, by the time they've assigned it, it's almost on its merry way to the final destination. Call back Wednesday or so and they should give you the number AND the news that it's being sent soon :)

Congrats, Leo! :D

So it has been really nice to read how fast some peoples approval came from the California center. I will be filing there hopefully in April or May. I sure hope it's as speedy as everyone else has been :) Any advice on what is that best way to send, USPS or UPS...any other delivery services that will get it there sooner? does it matter? Thanks everyone!

USPS is better. I went with express for $17, because it's got personal information in it, and the last thing I need is my identity stolen and USPS stays on it like whoa for express, and express requires signatures. That said: Taiwan's absolutely right, there's no chronological order dibs once in the system. It really doesn't matter for the initial petition.

HOWEVER, if you get a request for further evidence (RFE), I do recommend overnighting it - RFEs are time sensitive and even priority isn't guaranteed in the window they give; I've had priority mail take 7-10 days to go 110 miles.
