Hello! Good day to all of you! I have question about Affidavit of support! as my boy doesnt make enought money we need to have a co-sponsor! his mommy agreed to help us, but i am wondering how much she needs to make at the minimum that could be our sponsor if she lives with husband?.. i just started worry about everything so much and just dont want to make any mistakes in this step.. Can we have to sponsors just in case? Thank you!

If there's only the two of them, they would need to meet the 125% support level for 3 people (her, her husband, and the beneficiary), which I want to say is something like $22k.

We won't need a sponsor (at least for the K1, I suppose the AOS is up for grabs depending on the economy over the next year), sorry!

Perhaps VSC has switched back to the spousal visas. VSC's been about a month behind CSC for those, while they've been ahead about a month for the K1.

I'm still trying to figure out how to get my cat back into the states with me from Belfast when I go visit my fiance in March. Continental only has information about domestic US flights, and nothing about international ones. Ugh! But in other good news, the price of my ticket went down by almost 150 dollars! Woo Hoo!!!!

My best friend moved back from Mozambique in July, where she had adopted a cat. I can ask her, but as I recall, she had to get up-to-date vaccinations 2 months before, and a blood test to confirm the proper amount of rabies vaccination in Mimi's bloodstream and a stool test to confirm there weren't any parasites (as well as a cautionary deworming) the week she travelled. She said it was a huge pain in the ####. This was one of the sites she used for preparing, because it was linked from the State Department or USDA's website (I don't remember which one she said it was).

FWIW, in Brazil (where there are only three cities with approved surgeons - Recife, Rio, and São Paulo), they allow your personal physician to do the lab testing and x-rays. But I believe Brazil also has a centralized medical database that allows the local physicians direct access to the results. Perhaps he should contact the consulate to see if that is an option?

I spied a 22nd!

Also, I'm almost all packed up for my trip -- I leave tomorrow for my parents' (who live about halfway between where I live and the closest major airport and are taking me the rest of the way so my car doesn't sit at the airport for a month!).

Hopefully I'll come back to a NOA2! If we get a RFE, I don't know what I'll do - probably buy some skype cred to call them and let them know we need an extension since I'm abroad.

haha, this hits close to home. B thinks 70F is cold too. Thankfully my HOA covers heat! kicking.gif

Lucky you!

We decided that once he's got his EAD and has a job, he's paying the gas bill and I'm paying the electric -- that way, he can put the heat where he wants to in the winter, and I can put the A/C where I want to in the summer, and we're both happy. I predict I will be happier in the summer than he will be in the winter: I prefer having my A/C at 82 by day and off with the windows open/fan on by night, and my average electric use last summer came in at under 15 kW-hr/day (which was like $30)... keeping the apartment at 68, my gas bill last month was $50, and even *I* was a bit chilly! biggrin.gif

I'm going to Brazil for the holidays! He's got holidays too (he teaches, and the last of the retesting process for the kids that failed their courses ends the Friday before I come), so we're going on vacation in NE Brazil for the month I've got off. Hopefully, I'll be coming back to a NOA2 and he'll be here in April. smile.gif

ETA: Just as well I'm going here, after the blizzard this week, he'd probably think he landed in the middle of Hoth and wonder what the heck he was thinking, leaving his tropical paradise for my frozen tundra! It's presently -12F here ("real feel", -1F actual -- -24C and -17C for you metric types) and 86F/real feel 97F there (30C/37C, respectively). Where do you see that it's touched in there? On the 'portfolio' screen, I see the last updated date was 10/29 (my NOA1 was for 10/27), but when I click on the number to get the case status, it just says 'initial review'. But I think that may have been the day I signed up to get notifications... xD

If you're not a twitter subscriber: For those of you at the CSC for I-129F's they are now processing petitions at roughly Sept 3rd. The VSC is now speeding up at Oct 10th.

VSC is sooooo much further ahead than us sad.gif

Afghanistan's only got 9 data points over 2 years, you can't really draw any conclusions from that sparse a data set - especially since @ 22 days, there was at least one expedite in there (as under a month is pretty much unheard of otherwise).

The majority of Iran K1 applicants will get approved between 56 and 167 days, and the highest concentration of approvals is between the 84 and 139 day mark. At 113 days, you are just over the average, but still within the typical processing time.

The statistics of VJ's K1 timelines disagree.

Statistics of K1 filers from Iran on VJ show that the average NOA1 to NOA2 time is 111±55 days for the 50 most recent NOA2s, which means that it is NOT unreasonable to say that there is a VERY real chance that you will not be approved until the 4-6 month time range.

In contrast, similar statistics from Canada has an average of 87±45 days for an NOA1 to NOA2 time for the 50 most recent NOA2s. Brazil, where my husband is from, has an average of 87±36 days.

The fact is, the standard deviations and means for the NOA1 to NOA2 wait time say that there is a very REAL difference between the data set for Iran and the data sets for Canada and Brazil. They are NOT being treated the same on the basis of country.

Incidentally, the CSC average for Iran is 111±39 days, and the VSC average is 101±55 days, which is NOT significantly different, which means that Iran is being treated similarly by both service centers. This implies that it's probably USCIS policy/procedure dealing with Iran (and other countries that typically see a delay).

ETA: From what people have said who have had these slowdowns, when they've gotten their Congressmen involved, is that it's usually related to the background checks and/or national security concerns, which somewhat drives the point that the country is being treated differently before the consular stage. For whatever that is worth.

ok this is none sense,i did what ken and babydoll did, messing with numbers, and two people after me have been approved, both for K-1,and the third one after us was suspended ( whatever that means in visa terms ) again in k-1,after that they are all on initial review.ftw
WHY NOT US?

Please don't take this the wrong way, but you're from the Middle East. Your case is more than likely going to take longer, throughout the ENTIRE immigration process, as a result. You will probably take closer to 5-6 months to be approved (which seems to be more typical for cases from the Middle East, much of Asia, and Africa) than the 3-4 months that people from the Pacific Rim, Europe, South America, Canada typically see for your NOA2.

As well, I would not be surprised if, after a successful interview, your consulate puts you on AP (or approve you pending additional procedures), which could take as little as a week, but may take 1-2 months.

When the time comes for you to adjust status, your name checks may slow things down again.

Hey Carolina - when you go to the store next, grab some in-shower rinse-off lotion if you haven't already gotten some. (I usually use this shea butter one by Oil of Olay, but if I can't find it, I'll buy whatever.) It always makes a huge difference in the winter (or when I come back from Brazil), and I find it works better than using lotions at other times (though in the winter, I tend to do that too).

I have been here for 5 months now, staying home and I'm starting to lose my minds. I was wondering if I can get any kind of job if I dont have a GC or a SS yet.... Probably not.... I dont really know what to do... Im an active person and Im not used to staying home for so long.... I'm pretty dissapointed with the whole situation in here and really sad that my husband cannot find a job.

While you can't get a job, you can volunteer, which would get you out of the house and do good at the same time.

The length of the regular green card cannot vary from state to state, because the green card is regulated by the federal government. It's just simply 10 years.

The five year thing you might be thinking about is that after five years, normal legal residents can apply to become citizens -- which isn't relevant for the majority of us on VJ, because most of the PLRs here were sponsored by USC spouses (or then-fiancé(e)s), and PLRs who are married to USCs can apply for citizenship after 3 years (and 18 months of continuous residence in the US).

I lived on a Navy base one summer, when I worked for the Navy, but man, living on base is nothing like the real world and it's very surreal to know that people with big guns will check your ID and possible search your car every time you come in and out of the area you live, and if you forget your ID, it can be a big deal... I hated it, passionately - though I kept thinking while I was there that it might have been better if I was in the barracks or real housing and not living in the CBQ. Of course, a roach invested room that resembled Joe's Apartment and having my bras and panties stolen from the laundry service DEFINITELY made me miss my old crummy smelly dorm...

Anyway, Maggie, look around, my old base had a ton of spousal resources (general 'military wife'-type support, international spouse support, etc), and lots of little groups and what not. As not-real-world as the base is, they're much more used to people coming and going and cultural shifts more than any other community you'll find, so they've got more stuff set up. Your fiancé may or may not know about them or know as much as there is to know about them. I don't know what military branch your fiancé is in, but my naval base (nearly 10 years ago!) had an extensive website with links of the groups and who to contact and "new to the base" type resources. It won't help 100%, but, it may be a start. :)

frenzy, with the consulate canceling today's interviews and possibly tomorrow's, and the domestic airport (SDU) closing down canceling all of the flights toda and tomorrow (and the airline apparently canceling on Thursday), L couldn't make the interview at all. He just couldn't get to Rio. He could have met me in Sao Paulo, but AA was going to charge more than I could afford to put him on the plane to Rio (and even then, he was gonna miss his medical). The small handful of flights into the international airport (GIG) were *obscenely* expensive :(

I realllllly hope Maggie's interview goes better than mine ended up. With the weather in Rio, SDU (which is right next to the consulate) is closed, and the consulate is closed as well and is expected to be closed the remainder of the week (as this terrible weather is expected to continue until then). L's flight into SDU was cancelled of course, but mine into GIG was just "delayed" and I was able to talk my airline into giving me an open ended rebooking due to the weather.

There are always other options - and not just silk flowers! Something like this in whites and silvers would work really well with your colors - and you could use feathers instead tulle to soften it... or just carry a small bouquet of feathers... or nothing at all!

Uhm, but I'm not really a traditional wedding kind of gal (with my honeydew green dress and my sister's "bridesmaid" bouquet of beaded/ribboned copper bubble wands in a bucket of bubble fluid, so the few guests that will be there can blow bubbles afterwards with us), and I know not everyone feels the same on that.

I read something recently that said something to the effect of... A typical wedding costs 20,000 (RIDICULAS) you can have a beautiful, elegant wedding for a very reasonable price if you shop around. If's not being cheap, it's called being smart.

It's crazy what people will spend on weddings! I was googling for thrifty wedding suggestions and found this "thrifty blog" ... who was sooo proud that she spent "only" (over) $6,000 on HER clothes for the wedding! And I won't even get into ranting about the unfortunate times I've flipped past all those miscellaneous wedding shows on TV and how much money they were just throwing at it... Granted, *we* are throwing a great deal of money at immigration, so I suppose it's just a matter of priorities.

Speaking of which, I know you have creative ideas, how can I make my own bouquet for the ceremony? I mean I'll buy the flowers but how do I make it all pretty to walk down the aisle with??

I'm a very visual peson, so my recommendation is to search youtube for hand tied bridal bouquet for some tutorials. :)

Something like that, frenzy! I'm a little mad that we have to haul our butts all the way to DSM for our biometrics and what not, but I suppose I'll just combine it with a weekend there to introduce him to my college buddies (who are almost all in the greater DSM area) and some family.

The longest L and I have been apart, since we met, was 6.5 months, and it was really rough at the end. It wasn't our choice, either; we had applied for his tourist visa, and he was to come for a month in August, between his classes ending and work/school beginning, but his tourist visa was denied because apparently girlfriend trumps work and a free college education.

I honestly don't know how couples who are apart for years at a time can do it.

Wedding licenses where we're getting married (New Orleans) are walk-ins too. They're also walk-ins where I live (about two hours east of frenzy :P).

I just took a look at the forms for AOS and wow...just wow. Maybe I`m not recovered from all of the paperwork of the K-1 visa, but looking at AOS makes me wanna :crying:

It's not that bad. It really isn't. We finished ours (except for the SSN, visa number, and I94 number) last week.

But make HIM do it if you aren't ready to handle more paperwork. It'll take him no more than a day (and probably more like an hour if he has the VJ examples open in another window while he's doing them) to get all the paperwork but the I864 done, and I'm sure even with all the wedding planning and preparation, he can carve out two hours to do HIS paperwork. They're HIS forms, in HIS name and HE has to sign them.

The only thing that has anything to do with you and requires your signature for the AOS is the I864.

There's the option of fine mesh (very very small particles) mica or glitter... mineral makeup would do, in a pinch.

In fact, I used to have some mineral MAC glitter eyeshadow -- you can probably find samples on e-bay for around $4-5.

And my luggage got lost...:(

It'll be ok. If he's got a washer/dryer easily available (aka IN his house/apartment), before going to bed, toss it in the wash, take a long shower, toss it in the dryer, and sleep nekkid. Repeat until your baggage comes - you may get sick of wearing the same stuff, but at least they'll be clean. If he doesn't, have HIM wash it/dry it before bed tonight and go shopping for something to wear Monday & more undies. It sucks your bags were lost (and great your papers weren't in there) and I know how bumming it is - every time I've gone to Brazil, my luggage has gotten lost! (Something about that Miami layover just nubs it up, even when I allow over an hour for the transfer! Since the first time, I keep two changes of clothing & a swimsuit in my carryon, because AA only flies there once a day, sooo...) Breathe, enjoy some nekkid time with your fiancé, and breathe - your interview is Monday, and the most stressful part of the visa journey is almost over :)

I hope your baggage shows up soon!

While I'm excited about that, I'm worried that it's going to be in May, and if that's the case, my GPA is going to plummet because I'll have to drop out of this semester. In my eyes, not going to his interview just isn't an option to me.

You should be able to request a one or two week (or even a month) delay without problems - just tell them that you wanted to be there but can't be in Canada until after the 15th because of school, and could you please reschedule. I know we were able to, in Brazil, and the only rule Brazil has is that you can't schedule sooner than one month from the current date.

In fact, you should probably put that request in to the consulate *now* before they've assigned it -- it's always easier to get it right the first time than to change it! :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsHow can I let the USCIS know what I think of them

I'm not rich either and live on a budget like most of the rest of us, but another $1k to get the visa in a month? Hell ya!

I have said my peace here. Some of you think the system is fine, and for you, enjoy every minute of your wait.

But for those of us who barely tolerate this pathetic excuse for a system, let's barely tolerate it together.

And for those of you who think I should move to Russia, I regret to inform you that it won't happen. I am here for the duration, so you are stuck with me until one of us gets our NOA2.

As for Bob, I wonder why you have such a problem with the Russian people. I found your comment that I should dump my beloved Elena and find "some other Russian" who is already here to be particularly offensive. Were you around for the Cold War? I was. I'm 53. I remember it all, including the propaganda we were fed in school about how Russians are all maniacs whose only desire is to nuke the world. Would it surprise you to learn that the Russian people were fed the same propaganda about us by the Soviet Government? Russians are real people too, just like you and me. They have real feelings too and can feel real love, just like Elena feels for me.

Elena is fine with the wait because under the Soviet system she grew up with, you waited and had zero options, zero information, and zero voice, just like we all get now from USCIS. It is Americans like me who are used to systems where we have options, information, and a voice who are having a problem with not having any of these things.

Think about it: A system created by the United States government is more like something from the old Soviet government than what we normally get from our own government. Scary, isn't it? Kind of makes you wonder who really won the Cold War!

Well put! Thanks for the voice you bring to this forum.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsBelated Post. about interview, question about SSI card.
A belated posting, fiancee had interview Jan 18th. Got pink after a long interview and alot of questions in English and Vietnamese. She stay calmed and looked the counselor in the eye, smiled and joked back and forth. He asked alot a questions about my children and wanted her to name them in the picture along with their birth dates. I stress that you have yours and hers 10 years of residency notarized and with her at the interview along with any addresses of x spouse. There are more questions if you have any questions just pm and I will answer when I have time.

Many thanks to all of you that helped us along the way. A personal thank you to Jerome and Binh for opening their house up and helping her with english several days. I know she had a tough time the last time at your house but she was stressed to the max preparing for the interview. Once again Jerome, you and Binh are the best!!

Another shout out is to Marc Ellis and Mr. Nam. I'm not a person that takes the paper work process very well, I still don't even know a lot. his office came through and helped her prepare for the interview the last 3 weeks prior to interview. 5 days a week 3 hours a day she was prepped. Along with almost 16 hours a day she studied English and prepared. I can honestly say the money I paid was well worth it. She was welcomed home to one of the biggest blizzards of the year. Here flight was cancelled to our local airport, so I jumped in the 4 wheel drive and drove to Chicago O'Hara 3 hours away. she had no clue I was coming, I spotted her easily at baggage
claim near customs. It was one the happiest days of my life!

I went to the SSI office and they would not let apply for cards, I thought that was the first thing you do for a k1? The gentleman at SSI said she needed to be cleared for work from DHS. I was unaware of this. Please help. Thanks Rich.

YAY! It's finally happening!! My fiance is getting here this weekend. We haven't seen each other since I went to see him for his birthday in August.

I was originally planning to go to Vegas for a bachelorette party/sisters birthday. He booked a ticket to fly down there to surprise me. I've gotten too stressed and sick to make it, so he is going to rent a car and drive 5-6 hours to SLC instead. I am a lucky girl to have someone so amazing that he is willing to do that for me. I'm starting to feel so much better already, but going to Vegas wouldn't help my stress levels right now.

Great news.

Marina had her interview today in Frankfurt. APPROVED!!!!!!!!!!
I will fly over in March and we will come back on the 24th.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJuly 2009 Filers

Hey, good and weird news. Dave had the visa sent to his parents and his mom signed for his passport and package over a week ago. So far he hasn't seen it yet because he keeps dropping by when she's not home and his father has no clue where she put it. POE date is estimated mid to late Feb, but really who knows with that guy of mine. ;)

That is good news.
