CanadaToronto Medical - for NON-Torontonians
I think Dr. Seiden's is the only option in Ontario.

Well, there's also parking near Metro, the supermarket on Front Street. I'm not sure how much the rate is, but that could be an option if you don't mind walking 5-10 minutes.

Well, taking the TTC isn't as bad as you think...I'd take that over the NY transit any day. Anyway, I had actually never taken it at 6AM before last week when I had to do so for the medical. It's not as scary as you think it would be - there are quite a few people on it at that time because many people have to catch the GO train.

Hm, then I would suggest anywhere near the subway on the Yonge-Spadina subway line and then take the subway. It's a pain to drive in downtown Toronto.

There's a King Edward Hotel on King Street, which is about a 10-15 minute walk to the medical center. Not sure how much it is but it might be a little pricey.

I would suggest public transportation. TTC operates starting from 6AM, so you should be good. Just a reminder that doors open at 6:30AM.

Hope this helps.

Yup, they're big on electronics. I forgot that I had a USB key and they kept it until the interview was done.

For those of you who have one saying to get it tomorrow, you could always try tonight anyways. I've had to pick up a few things and tried early a couple times and didn't usually have a problem.

Nope, tried that and didn't work. The post office didn't have it yet....I wonder what takes the mail so long to re-route back to the post-office. It said I could pick it up 1PM tomorrow.

I live in an apartment building, which should be easy access. When I looked on the notice, it said, "No access"...hmm, how did they get that??

It drives me nuts when they put on the delivery notice "No Answer" when it seems they haven't even tried. I was home pretty much from 10-1PM and the notice was prepared at noon!

Hey, I just found this thread!

Anyway, how did you all manage to get the tracking number?? Thanks!

Copied it down from the back of the envelope before handing it in.

Should have done that...oh well, at least 7-10 days means December 4 at the latest...

CanadaCar Import Journey
Just registered my car today! In case anyone is in Indiana, the BMV (Bureau of Motor Vehicles) requirest the following for out-of-country vehicles:

1. Police inspection (apparently the people at the BMV cannot inspect your vehicle - a police officer does it)
2. CBP forms
3. Emissions letter from Ford
4. CAD driver's license
5. Title/ownership from Canada
6. Social Security card
7. Proof of address (in my case, I was added to hubby's bank account)
8. $82 cash or credit

We had no idea about the police inspection, so we had to drive to a police station, get a police officer to fill out the form and drive back to the BMV. A pain in the neck, but it worked out well in the end.

Next stop...driver's test!

Hola!

So we just got into the US yesterday through Port Huron, MI. The car import was a cinch. They did the paperwork. All they ask is that you bring the compliance letter and your title good.gif

I have a 2001 Ford Taurus, did it cost money to get the Emissions Approval from Ford Manufacturer? I just go to the dealership for it yes?

Oh yes and I am talking my personal car from Vancouver BC to Everett WA

Yeah, just go to any Ford dealer and ask for the letter. It'll be $90 including tax.

Question: I have a 1996 Mercury Villager that I got from my Dad. We plan to drive that down to POE.

I have the title but would they still expect to see a bill of sale?? Also, I assume I would still need to get a compliance letter from Ford? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

CanadaHyphenated names

Thats good that you got that sorted. Did you ask them if this would have caused a problem for you had you not corrected it?

Well, the lady I spoke to made is sound like it was a good thing that I called to fix the hyphens. It's always good to have your name matching on all documents.

I just got my biometric notice and my name's still not hyphenated. It's driving me crazy about whether there will be a problem for AOS. Tried to call NCSC but nobody's answering....

CanadaHyphenated names
Hi everyone,

I have two hyphens in my name, one for the first name and the other on my last name (since I decided to take my maiden name hyphenated with hubby's name). When I applied for the AOS, I put on all the apps my married name with the hyphens. However, the NOA's all came out without hyphens. Has anyone had similar issues and come out ok? Just wondering if they usually print their forms off without hyphens.

Also, I should probably note that my K1 visa shows my first name without the hyphen, and my I-94 did not have the hyphen, either. So perhaps it's a non-issue?

Thanks!

CanadaAdjustment of Status Package

Does anyone know If the Birth Certificate of the beneficiary is required (if yes, then copy or original?) in the AOS packet, or does the beneficiary passport copy suffice and prove her nationality?

I believe that you'll need a copy of the beneficiary birth certificate.

CanadaAdjustment of Status Package

Hi Canadian folks,

I'm preparing my adjustment of status forms, and this is what I have so far for things we're going to include (mostly excerpted from my cover letter):

- Cover letter
- Payment in the amount of $1010.00.
- I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status
- G-325A, Biographical Information for Spoom
- I-693, Vaccination Record (Note: Full medical is not required as this package is being filed within one year of a K-1 immigration medical examination having been performed abroad, per I-693 USCIS instructions, Section III, question 2, and the K-1 examination did not reveal any Class A medical conditions.)
- I-864, Affidavit of Support
- Copies of ScooterMac's federal tax returns for the past three years
- Letters from ScooterMac's employers verifying yearly salary and ongoing employment
- I-765, Application for Employment Authorization
- I-131, Application for Travel Document (Advance Parole)
- Copy of Spoom's Canadian Passport, including K-1 visa and I-94
- Copy of Notice of Approval for K-1 petition (NOA2)
- Certified copy of marriage certificate
- Two passport-style photographs of Spoom
- Photographs of wedding ceremony and reception
- Letter from Pastor verifying ceremony and relationship
- Copies of cards and letters received from wedding guests
- G-1135, E-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance

Do I have everything, or are there more things I should be including to make my package more complete? Also, do I need copies of all pages of my passport, or just the biographical page and the pages with the visa / I-94?

I included my SSN with the application. In Indiana, things are slightly different because the name change occurs at the social security office. The marriage certificate still had my maiden name on it.

We also ended up sending a G-325A for my husband (the USC). We figured it doesn't hurt to send them more info. We already had 2 photos for him, so we might as well send it.

tri_gear, why don't you just apply for a K-1? That's what you have listed in your profile as well. You'll need to change that if you go for a CR-1.

Tina, I'm in St. Louis, but drive to Toronto once a year to visit my folks. On the way back, I (or we) usually stop in Indianapolis. Maybe we can hook up on one of our trips later this year and have a coffee or supper!

Sure, that sounds like fun! Just let me know when you'll be coming :)

CanadaAny Canadians in Indianapolis?
Wow, what a story....yeah, sounds like CR1 might be the best. We just decided on K1 because we didn't want to wait apart and K1 has the tendency to be faster than CR1.

Of course, I'm paying the price for it as I can't work now until I get my EAD or Greencard.

At least once the process is over for you, you're considered a PR when you cross the border :)

CanadaAny Canadians in Indianapolis?

No, I had NO idea of this. That's not good. Well thanks for letting me know that.

Did you get married in Indiana?

Yeah, we got married in Indiana (Marion County). We had a civil marriage in order to get the AOS started and then we'll have a church ceremony sometime in the summer. Indiana is pretty fast with marriage licenses and certificates (get it the same day you apply), so you should have no problem when you reach the AOS stage :)
