From what I've read, they don't send forms anymore.

Take a look at this topic, it has a scan of the letter from Montreal listing the paperwork needing done:

http://www.visajourn...h...=217594&hl=

Thanks Rhiann, I take it we can fill out these forms ahead of time?

Yes, you can fill them out ahead of time. And you can get your police clearance without any visa paperwork (people get police clearances all the time for a variety of reasons... they'll ask you why you're getting it, but you won't need to prove it).

Great, thanks! What about the one that I fill out online? Do I fill that one and send electronically before the interview date?

Thanks for your input, everyone! I was wondering if someone can also let me know what the Packet 3 for Montreal consulate look like. Are we allowed to fill out forms ahead of time, except for the fact that we'll have to fill out the NVC case number on it, too? Finally, if I don't have packet 3 yet, will I still be able to get the police clearance?

Many thanks!

Tina

Hi everyone,

I'm just trying to be prepared. For those who did their medical in Toronto, how long does it take to make an appointment and how long were you there? Also, do we need to have all of those vaccinations the Department of State lists on their website? I'm just asking because I don't even know where to look for those records.

Any help will be great!

I wouldn't until you get your P3, as you need the letter from it to show at the medical to prove that you are going through the consulate. Both the medical and police check are good for a year so you can get them done any time after you have the letter biggrin.gif

Thanks! Right now I'm just hoping that my file won't get stuck at NVC for AP.....................

Thanks for the helpful information. It certainly saves my fiance a lot of trouble trying to dig out a lot of info. Plus, he's moving from New York to Indy, so things will likely be misplaced yet again.

Hey everyone,

So I take it that having the most recent tax return, letter from employers and a couple of paystubs will suffice? Someone said to bring three years of tax returns, W2's and 8 paystubs, but I didn't see that on a sample packet 3. Thanks a lot!

Hey everyone,

I just read from a post somewhere that Packet 4 asks you to find your parents' marriage certificate?? Does the Montreal consulate ask for that? Just want to make sure that this doesn't surprise me. Thank you!

Tina

Parents marriage cert? No way! They don't ask for that

Oh, thank God! I read that the embassy in Bogota requires that, but I'm glad the Canadian US consulate doesn't.

That would be so wierd if they needed that. What if your parents were never married, what if you were estranged from them, etc. There is no way you could control obtaining your parents marriage cert!

I know, but it's true:

It makes me so glad that I don't live there.

They told me there has been no changes since Friday when I called (she was not pleased). Oh well too bad!! Just wanted to let everyone know, no interview for me yet....though I figured that was going to be the reply!! Hopefully we will hear something soon though, I would like to know about my July interview before June 30. I have to purchase my airline ticket to Montreal LOL smile.gif

Hopefully, they will be done with all of you, so that it's faster for us who filed our I-129 F's in May. It might be wishful thinking, but I really hope that my visa will be approved in October!

If you just filed for a K1 in May, you are looking at apprx 8-10 months for an actual visa approval. NOA2 came in at around 5 months for most of us. Then it's another 3 months or so through your packet 3 and to interview. I know it seems long, but I hope it goes faster for you guys smile.gif good luck!

Yeah, I'm just hoping that the backlog goes away so that it does become faster for us. I'd really hate to spend another crazy winter here in Toronto. unsure.gif

Crossing the border this time was the hardest ever. I almost didn't make it when the POE guy said "I don't think I can let you in based on what you're telling me". It was our NOA2 that made a little sunshine in his day because he saw we were good little sheeple who follow the rules and have good intent! Phew! I'm so grateful to be with my family and let the interview date sort itself out. Now we can bite our nails together and drive down here alllllll over again in a few weeks! :-)

Advice to anyone trying to cross with a pending K1 - BRING YOUR PAPERS!!!

Well, today's Tuesday and I plan on calling in a few hours. I'll update this forum tonight with the progress!!

btw: Great job everyone with the 5 day a week calling program we got going on here! This thread is fantastic as are it's members!

I'm planning a trip to Oregon in late June. It's just a 5 day trip with my fiance. I was just planning to take my return itinerary and perhaps an employment letter that will be signed by my boss. Would that be sufficient? Thanks.

Just a bit of random input... There may be other times that a birth certificate is useful. Why not get a certified copy or two to have later in life?

Agreed. good.gif

Another thing to consider is that the US consular officers in Canada are used to looking at Canadian birth certificates. They may have never seen a Taiwanese birth certificate. They may even have to fax whatever you send them to the US consulate in Taiwan to find out what the heck you gave them. I think there's less chance of confusion if you send them an actual birth certificate.

I may have a birth certificate issued from the hospital. However, that one doesn't say much. It has my mother's name, my height, weight, and date/time of birth. Usually you wouldn't get your name included until you register with Household registration (I think). So my best bet would probably to just get that. My fiance will call USCIS tomorrow and ask them whether it's the "Certificate of Identification" would suffice. Will keep you posted.

Hey everyone,

So it turns out that my uncle in Taiwan has been able to get me the document from the Household Registration office. I think this would suffice?

Thanks for the inputs!

Hey,

Thanks for the fast replies. I have contacted TECO and am waiting for a response from them. It would be nice not to have to return to Taiwan just to get my birth cert. Yeah, I suppose a Taiwanese translator would probably translate it properly.

Take care,

Tina

Hi everyone,

So I spoke to a lady at the Taipei Cultural center and she said that I could use a power of attorney for my relatives to apply on my behalf. I would need my Taiwanese and Canadian passports, relative's address in Taiwan, name, birthdate, Taiwan ID. That would take about 3 business days and then I'd have to pick it up and send to my relative to take to the household registration department. The registration department would send to a translator before my relative gets it and mails it back to me.

The second option would be to apply directly with the consulate a Certificate of Identification. This is essentially a notarized document from the consulate that verifies my Chinese name, date of birth, both parents' names, and place of birth. For this I need my Taiwanese and Canadian passports, my parents' front page of Taiwanese passport, household registration document. Again, it would take 3 days.

Now, option 2 sounds easier because I would be applying directly from the consulate in Toronto. The only question is would this suffice for immigration? It will have all the information: my name, my parents' names, place and date of birth, which is everything a birth certificate has.

Has anyone successfully used the second option? Thanks!

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has any advice. I was born in Taiwan, but became a Canadian citizen and I'm not sure where my birth certificate is. I was wondering if there was any way of obtaining a duplicate without having the travel back to Taiwan (I may have my interview in 5 months and will need this). Also, I understand that to get the true birth year, we have to add 11 years to the year on the birth certificate. For example, I was born in 1980, but my BC says 1969. How can I prove that I was born in 1980 rather than 1969?

Any help would be great!

Thanks,

Here is a brief summary of my interview:

My appointment was 8AM, which is the time they opened. There were some people there waiting already at about 7:45 but the doors were closed. We found out that some people were there for biometrics.

We turned in our appointment paper to the lady at the window. Then, to my surprise, I was called up first. The IO who interviewed me was nice. She briefly went over my application, asking for my full name, date of birth, address, full name of my husband, where I currently worked, etc. And here I was, trying to memorize the dates I lived where and the dates that I took trips outside of the U.S.!

Then she had me do the English test: to read a question out loud and write the answer to it on a piece of paper.

For the Civics, I pretty much memorized the 100 questions inside and out. Here she told me that she was going to ask me the questions and would stop if I got 6 correct. I recall that the questions were:

1. Who is the Governor of Indiana?
2. What are two national US holidays
3. What is one thing do you promise to do as a US citizen?

I don't recall the other 3 questions, but I got all 6 correct, so she stopped there and told me I passed the Civics test.

At the end, she handed me a piece of paper letting me know that she is recommending me for approval and that my oath would be in 1 month.

My husband, who was in the waiting room said it took about 10 minutes, which is pretty good considering the appointment letter said to give yourself 2 hours.

Anyway, overall, it was a good experience and there wasn't much waiting.

Good luck to all those waiting!

Well, I got my yellow letter today. I think it's because I only had my 2011 tax return. I am requesting a transcript for 2010 and 2011 and bringing 2012 to the interview. I was only here for 15 days in 2009, so I was considered non-resident and therefore didn't file. Also, I had no idea that ordering the tax transcripts are free!

Hopefully, I'll be put in line for interview soon!

Is it true that some offices schedule based on your earliest eligible date? I guess I'll be put far in the pack then...my 3 year anniversary was 1/8/2013, but was eligible to apply on 12/18/2012. So my guess is that if there were people who applied after their 3 year anniversary, they received priority. Is that correct? Thanks.

CanadaHow do you get married? Can you just go down to courthouse??
QUOTE (carrieandadrian11 @ Mar 29 2009, 05:32 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I am totally confused on this.

Upon arrival, how do we get married?? I know we go to the courthouse, get a marriage license but then it says "you have 60 days to use it". HUH?? I thought that was it? Use it how?? We aren't having a ceremony because we already did that (non legal a few months ago). Do we still have to get someone to do a ceremony with the legal certificate now????

ANyone have any tips?? I will be in Virginia. I'm so confused!!! I'm also hugely confused on the definitions. What is "marriage" and "married". Is that the CEREMONY???

Hi,

Im not sure how you were able to have a ceremony without it being legal. We were thinking of having a church ceremony in Toronto in August 2009 (without the legal signing of the pastor). However, our plans fell through when the pastor said that it's illegal for pastors or officiators to do minister a wedding without it being legal. He said that he would only be able to do it if we got married legally before the wedding or do the legal signing at the wedding ceremony.

Needless to say, we were both bummed and had to change our plans and marry after I enter the U.S. We'll likely do the courthouse marriage first and then hopefully hold the actual ceremony in December 2009.

CanadaBirth Certificate
Hey everyone,

I'm a Canadian citizen born in Taiwan. I know that as the beneficiary of the K1 Visa, I may have to include my birth certificate as support. However, I don't have it ready. Does anyone know if that is really necessary? I have my Canadian passport and citizenship card which basically have all the information the embassy would need. Isn't that sufficient? Any insight would be great. Thanks.

Worst part is that I haven't been able to log in to see my case status online. So even after I get my NOA2 in the mail, I won't even know when I've been logged in after I send my packet 3 sad.gif Just hope things will be okay.

You can't see that part, don't worry smile.gif Once you get your NOA2, it gets forwarded to the NVC. You call them and ask them what day they sent your file to Montreal. From there, the only way to know if Montreal logged your file is to email them.

They'll have their e-mail address on Packet 3? Or where would I find the e-mail? Thanks!

Montreal's email address is on Packet 3. They do not take phone calls.

QUOTE (carslo @ May 28 2009, 12:19 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
One way to speed things up at NVC is to pay everything online and not to use snal mail. We lost between 4 - 5 weeks because my husband send everything in by mail and did not utilize the quickier method of paying online. Hope that helps you out.

Janet

She is doing a K1, so she won't need to pay anything before the actual interview date. Just wanted to note that so she doesn't get confused.

Great, thanks!
