Uh oh, I didn't print out a copy of the DS 160 form, but I have the confirmation receipt. Would this be a problem? Thanks!

It looks like packet 3 was sent off already. DoS for some reason couldn't confirm when, but I will assume Friday. That means it could mean I could get my packet 3 before end of the month. I will send everything off same day.

Anyway, it looks like we need a miracle. I'm going to start praying that those who filed earlier get the October/November dates, so that those of us who submit our packet 3's in September/October can get it for December good.gif good.gif

By the way, I find it hard to believe that Montreal takes a long time to respond to questions, such as what's the status of my case. I know my case is in the system now. I just wanted to know when it will be mailed. Per DoS, packet 3 looks like it's ready to go, but why couldn't it be mailed out today rather than Monday??

I got a response from Montreal regarding which items are to be sent back. Apparently we're supposed to send the items that are highlighted. Which are those? Thanks!

So if we're supposed to send in our two copies of DS 156, then what do we bring with us to the interview? I'm just asking because I think I'm now short one passport photo. I originally had 3 for the medical, one for DS 156. I didn't know we need to have original photos for both copies of DS 156. Or do we?

Thanks.

So I have confirmed that packet 3 is ready to go and will be mailed either today or Monday. Hopefully, it will still get to me by end of the week. good.gif

Hi everyone,

So I'm expecting Packet 3 next week. I just want to make sure what I need to send back. I know from another thread that it says we're supposed to send back everything, but when you e-mail Montreal, they only say DS 230 part 1 and the checklist and bring the rest with us to the interview (including the DS 160 confirmation page). Is that right? Thanks!

By the sounds of it, I should be hoping for a February interview instead of January if they're so backlogged.
Well, I hope they speed up near holidays.

Maybe they will be more considerate come the holidays good.gif

It took them around 2 weeks to get me mine.

I wonder how long it takes between entering into the system to sending packet 3...I saw in another person's timeline that it took 3 business days! And ours just got entered yesterday.

Maybe I should be calling DoS too to see if mine's logged.

Do I have to be the one who called DoS or can my fiance?
He has Vonage and I'd have to use my cell which would cost me alot of money.

I think either can call.

Hi,

How did you find out when packet 3 was mailed? Thanks.

Tina

I think they mean when they mailed Packet 3 back to Montreal.

I just saw that they had a date of when Montreal sent out packet 3. It looks like it took 3 business days after the package from NVC got to Montreal, so I was just curious because everyone else says it takes 5 business days.

Something similar happened to me Tina, so don't feel too bad. I thought I would give work 3+ weeks notice, to be nice and help them replace me. Well my boss was soo angry with me, for no reason really... I was 21, just graduating from university and working at Tim Hortons. Long story short, I didn't get a single shift for my last 3 weeks, and I planned on quitting 2 weeks before the move so I had time to pack and say goodbyes... So I ended up unemployed for 5 weeks unnecessarily. Thats what we get for being nice honest people right?

Yeah, I know...my boss was nice about it when I told her. I think I told her my fiance and I were getting married in April and then possibly leaving the company in August. My fiance and I discussed it and he said that I should be nice, so I gave her about 4 months notice!

When I went back to her and said around December (this was around June), she asked me if I was certain and I said I wasn't sure.

I think it was the uncertainty of that response that made her feel that she had to hire someone before then.

So the new girl started on August 31, and I've been training her and filling in for a colleague of mine.

Anyway, yes, long story short, it's good to be nice to an employer but at the end of day, everyone thinks of him/herself.

Tina

While we're on the subject of when to quit because of our little visa situation, here's my story. It always seems that I learn my lessons the hard way. I initially wanted to leave my company in August because I wanted to go visit my fiance for a couple of months while waiting out this process. Then I backed out of that plan because of the possibility of being denied at the border. I tried to take my job back at least until December but my company has already found someone to replace me. I think I was trying to be a little too honest and so now I'll be out of a job in early October.

Oh well, I guess I'll consider this a 3 month vacation (if I don't find temporary employment).

Anyway, just wanted to share, and if you had a choice, don't do what I did....

Hey everyone!

So I filled out and submitted another DS 160 form and printed out the confirmation. What confuses me still is that on the side bar, they explained "nationality" as the place where you were born. I originally put Taiwan, but when I asked Montreal they said it should have been Canadian? Anyway, I filled it out with Canadian. The other little issue was the receipt number. When I asked Montreal, they said it should be the USCIS receipt number. Yet, I have seen some people on VJ put the NVC number. Again, one form has the USCIS number, and the other has the NVC number. Should I just bring both confirmations and the e-mails from Montreal to back them up? Thanks!

Tina

In the instructions for the Packet 3, they request the case number as listed on that letter... which is the number that, for us, begins with MTL**********

Weird...oh well, I have a back up e-mail from Operator 5. I guess I'll bring that also.

So as an update, I e-mailed Montreal again around 2PM and I have been getting responses. I filled out in error the DS 160 and submitted it. One operator said don't worry about it and another one said to fill out new forms. I guess I'll go with fill out new forms?

Also, in terms of receipt number, Operator 1 said they want the USCIS number, which I find to be strange because they don't get the USCIS number. They get the NVC number, don't they?

On another note, I didn't find the staff at DoS to be too friendly. Maybe because I've been calling them too soon to check if they have received my file? From DHL, I know it reached the consulate yesterday. Someone named MAMEDOV signed for it, but I suppose them it takes them a couple of days just to process it? The lady said it could take a week??

I guess I'm just a bit anxious right now. I want things to go smoothly...

Tina

Just so you know, it takes just about a week (7 days or 5 business days) for them to accept and THEN process (get you in the system). I almost went berserk when I knew they had received my husband's file, but called and they knew nothing about it!!! But, that was on a Wednesday (received on a Tuesday), and the following Tuesday afternoon (don't call in the morning... they're finishing from the previous day) we were in the system. Afternoons are always best. I think they spend time in the morning inoutting the information. wink.gif

So... lay back, take a load off... you've got about a week. (I know... easier said than done!! Trust me, I DO know... I've already been there and it almost seems like it doesn't mater what others say, you always need to double check with the MTL office. LOLOL)

QUOTE (Danu @ Sep 20 2009, 10:14 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
as far as I know you can just refill out the form with the right info and bring in the confirmation page and application page from the one that is correct. I believe someone else had an issue when they were filling theirs out and that thats what they were told to do, just refill and bring the right one.

Yes, just whichever one is the LAST one completed, that is the one on file, and that is the one to print out and bring with you. smile.gif

Thanks for the encouragement. It's harder for me now because I'll be out of a job soon. Because of that, it's kind of tough to find another job for 2-3 months. I'll try again in a couple of days.

Thanks, Danu. So I guess my nationality should be Canadian? I guess it is since it does say it on my passport. I guess I'll refill and bring the right one. I've e-mailed Montreal also just to see what they say.

Regarding the receipt number, yeah, it's very confusing. At first when they said "petition", I thought of the USCIS number. But Montreal gets the NVC number, so I'm not even sure if they know the USCIS number.

This is so confusing!!

I'll probably have to ask that as well.

Yeah... I imagine its a bit different with it before it even get to MTL. They have to log the package as received (which can take up to a week or so) before they will send out your P3. DOS also can't really do anything with our files. They are fine when you are calling to check up on interviews, but most people suggest not to start calling until about a week after you have sent your P3 to them, as they can't really tell if your package is being logged with MTL or anything until they do it. Its best for enquiries to email MTL and call DOS for updates. What i did was after about 2 weeks from when NVC sent it (i think about 4 days after DHL said delivered) i emailed MTL saying that NVC had told me that the package had been sent the beginning of the week before and asked if it had been received and when I might get the P3..which is when they told me what date it had been sent (which is how I knew that they lost it in the mail..had to email to get a new packet sent, only took 3 days to get this time!). Then after i sent it (about a week) I emailed to confirm delivery, they had not logged it yet. The next week I called DOS to see if it had been logged. Basically any time I want something or need a question answered other than "is it there yet" and "do i have an interview yet" I emailed MTL.

Oh and you can do the DS160 online any time you want.

Thanks for the info, Danu. It's good to know that I can have packet 3 materials all ready to be sent out the same day I get the packet 3.

Hey everyone!

So I'm currently waiting for Packet 3. Apparently my package has already arrived at Montreal. NVC sent it on the 16th. I've booked my medical for October 21. If my packet 3 does not get lost in the mail, I think I'm all set.

In terms of the stuff I need to send back, I have all the forms filled out:

DS 156
DS 156K
DS 230 part 1&2

I'm just not sure whether I will be able to do DS 160 before my packet 3 arrives. It's pretty much the same as DS 156, except it's online, right?

Yeah, I think putting high school and university sounds better. What did you put for the times you travelled or resided in the US? Do they allow you to use extra pages if we crossed the border more than three times?

Also, for the affidavit of support, what do we fill out for the consulate? I-864 or I-134? It says something about NVC requiring I-864 or and I-134 for USCIS??

2. Address of spouse would be the same as the one I intend to live, right?

3. What if we don't know the date of marriage?

4. Not sure what to put for 31(a) and 31(cool.gif

no, he's not your spouse yet, so put 'N/A', especially since you'll be marking your martial status as single. That whole section of Qs 14-18 does not apply.

31 is if you have children or other family members that are coming with you. If there are none, put N/A.

Thanks, and did you list all of the previous visits to the US? How far does that have to go back?

At least, that's how I've interpreted it and that's how I filled it out.

Also, in terms of educational institutions, I went to school in Canada starting from Junior high, so do I have to list that, too? These questions are so ambiguous as to how far to go back unsure.gif

Yes, you can fill them out ahead of time. And you can get your police clearance without any visa paperwork (people get police clearances all the time for a variety of reasons... they'll ask you why you're getting it, but you won't need to prove it).

Great, thanks! What about the one that I fill out online? Do I fill that one and send electronically before the interview date?
