Correction $0.17 Canadian or $0.15 US for calls to Jamaican Cell phones.
Looks like we are getting all kinds of options to call Jamaica now. Here is the latest. https://www.foreignphone.com/ , this is from Cable & Wireless Canada. For about $30.00 a month, providing you have a broadband Internet connection, you get a local phone number, and a Jamaica phone number, with unlimited calling to the US, Canada and the UK. $0.15 Canadian to Jamaican cell phones, and $0.03 Canadian to Jamaican land lines. For an additional $10 Canadian you can get unlimited calling to Jamaican land lines.

Total startup cost, first month, plus adapter $124.93 Canadian or about $107 US.
Good morning all.

Yes, I'm glad we have not been much snow at all this winter. Lowest totals recorded so far... but the forecasters say that's all about to change tomorrow night. Darlene it looks like we'll finally get to see something measurable. Maybe Bert will finally see what a real New England winter is all about.

That's scary, I remember New England winters quite well. It's much milder here in Indy. I still can't get over the fact my wife put the winter coat I sent her in Dec 2003 on in Jan 2005 when I was wearing a t-shirt. I worry about the climate shock.

Is that round trip? :o Have her hook us up too! :P What airline is that on?

Planning ANOTHER vacation???  Will you adopt me?????

Hey at that price who wouldn't!!!

Best I could find from Indy was $389, andd it's going to cost just about as much to fly the wife here. I know I shouldn't complain it's only the 3rd ticket I've actually paid for in the last 5 years.

Hello family,
I wanted to pop in and say hi and to send well wishes and warm thoughts to everyone!

Also, I need your :help: !

I am planning on going to see Marlon during Spring Break and I need help in finding some cheap air fare! Can anyone point me in a general direction please? I am going nuts and missing him so bad and thankfully that is 1 week I can take off of work!

Please :help: !

Try Spirit Air, Sign up for their specials emails. They do fly out of Vegas so it is quite possible you can get a deal. I've flown with them from Chicago for $268 total. And I know they have better deals sometimes.

For those of you interested in getting Hype TV but have Comcast (like myself :() - have you subscribed or considered this package : https://www.jumptv.c...jamaicanbundle/

In all honesty.....HypeTV has saved my life and my marriage. I have NO IDEA how unhappy Roy would be if we didn't have it. He watches it all the time and it is a GREAT link for him back to the island. With all the commercials for the concerts and partys.....it makes him feel like he is connected.

If you can, RUN don't walk to get your HypeTV!!!

I spent this morning rigging one of my PC's to the HDTV to prepare, I know NIckiesha will love it. I'll have it ordered before she arrives. Thanks Jonesie.

Darlene glad to hear that things are working out well :star:

I didn't bother calling the Embassy today. I will try Monday when at least I have an hour break and Friday when I will have more time. Will they be open on President's Day? Or is that a holiday for everyone I know we have no school that day.

Have a great weekend all. I don't know what to do with myself know that the football season is over. I guess its time to get organized before hubby gets here.

One Luv

Jax

They will be closed the 19th and 21st of February. Presidents Day US Holiday. Ash Wednesday Jamaican Holiday. I guess that means we won't be seeing a one day turn around for the Visa like Susan.

I actually received something from the embassy. Of course in true form of the Kingston embassy, I received 2 copies of the appointment letter (packet 4), one sent on the 31st of Jan and the other sent on the 1st of Feb. Identical of course. They really have no clue what they are doing do they???

Congrats Eric,

Goodmorning all!

Today is the day I will make my first temp to call the Embassy. What time are they open? I work all day and only have a lunch break from 11:35-12:05pm. I don't know if thats enough time to get through. It has been 2 weeks that our case first arrived in Kingston. I think by now they should know its there.

Oh my Eric 2 copies  and the timing!

Where has everyone been?? We're on the same page we were on over 24 hours ago ^_^ Is everyone hibernating or something?

I have to work ALL weekend :ranting: I hate not having a day off! Sometimes I wonder if the money is really worth it???

I am looking for a new job and I can't get paid less to support my lifestyle. So to me its worth it to work at the after school program and summer school. But really I couldn't see myself working the entire week straight I need a break. How do you do it Rhonda?

The $335 fee is for the CR-1, don't worry they will get your money when you file for adjustment of status, which is unneeded for the CR-1.

hello everyone,

wow! so much going on...good vibes out to all of you...

for those of you who've recently gone through (or are currently going through) the k-1 process, did you have to pay the $335 "visa fee"? or just the $100 at paymaster? we got papers saying both...i'm praying that its only the $100, but want to be prepared...

its awesome to see so many march dates... :) is everyone getting as nervous as me?! :)

Anyone going to a special super bowl party?

Everyone have a goodnight!

Ciao

Sorry but the Bears had their time in 86, Growing up in New England I sypathize with Chicago fans, (baseball). But it the Colts time, and they are going to make Chicago pay form 86. Sorry I'm a Pats fan and called this at the beginning of the season. (OK I didn't call them going through the Pats and the Bears for the end results), but They are taking the Super Bowl no questions asked. Bears time will come again in 2009. You never know, they may take the Pats again, but it's not happening till 2009.

It appears that understaffing at our consulates have actually gotten some air time on the news. Sparked by the drop in foreign travellers to the US, due to the difficulty of getting Visa's. The US travel industry is starting to stir things up. It won't affect any of us. But who knows what results they may eventually have. Money talks.

I want to thank all for their support and well wishes for our upcoming interview. They say third times a charm. My biggest fear is that the embassy through their irrisponsable handling of so many of our loved ones visas, they will find some way of screwing things up.

They can't question the relationship, I've got 4 1/2 years of pictures, and 9 passport stamps in the last 2 1/2 years. Then there are the tatoos.

I suspect I am possible the first on the forum to attempt to get a visa after the 3 year bar has ended. I pray that the way things turn out next month will provide some hope to the many others who have also been unjustly denied their rightful future.

A few days ago we had the pleasure of being addressed by our fearless leader, who again argues for immigration reform. Yes it is needed, I believe the first step would be to fire everyone in Kingston.

We now have presidential candidates who have admitted to smoking Ganga, do we have to elect him to provide reform.

Sorry for the rant, I only have 3 weeks left god willing, but I fear it is going to be tjhe longest 3 weeks in my life.

Good luck to everyone on their upcoming dates, and remember... Lie... Lie... Lie.

EricDrewry, that is awesome news. Man I cant wait to here you say she has the visa. Seems like a long struggle for you both. Are they not asking her for another medical?? I know you will take copies of everything under the sun you sent to them.

Im glad to be American, but Im even more thrilled that I will have the opportunity to have Jamaican babies!!! The BEST of both worlds.

No they are not, that did surprise me, I figured with her case history they would want another. But they do have a clean one on file from April 2006, along with the police certificate and the Affidavitt of support, all of which are apparantly good for one year after submission.

If I didn't think the Embassy was Evil and incompetant before today, I DO NOW!!! After being told on Friday that my husband's case had been canceled and then calling back and having another women say they found it, but no Visa's had been issued.... TODAY, I call and was told the Visa's were issued on the 19th and he should have them by now. When I said he didn't and ask how to track them down, I was put on hold for 10 minutes and when she came back, she said Airpak would be picking them up from the Embassy tomorrow and he'd have on Weds! I'm so mad!! He could have flown home yesterday if someone had been doing there job!! Since I've gotten 3 different answers with 3 different calls we are waiting until we know Airpak has both Visa's before rebooking our flight. OH and on top of it all, my husband calls the Embassy this afternoon too and they refused to give him any information without his case number! That's pretty funny considering they've never asked me for our case number just his name, and they have NEVER asked me to verify who I am. The whole process is a joke. The worst part is I wanted to cuss them out, yet I don't dare until I have those Visa's in hand.
Oh'well, I did send two of my Congressmen emails regarding all the problems I've had with the Embassy. Maybe if they get enough complaints they will start looking into it.

Hope every one is having a great day!!

And Congrats to everyone who received Interview Dates!!

I was once told that the Embassy don't like taking calls from the nationals. They figured you were the USC so they didn't think to ask for verification.

It must me a male thing. They always ask me the case number. I may be considered by the Jamaican government a Jamaican citizen, but I am the USC and sound like it. Unless I am singing Karaoke, (They call me either Sean Paul, or Eric Paul in Kingston and Mobay. I got the best reaction from the crowd a couple weeks ago in Mobay singing Tony Mattahorn's Dutty Wine)

I am guesing you are going the I130 route, CR-1, there is a fee for the Affidavit of support I-864, and the DS-230, that based on last years procedures, NVC sends you a bill, you pay it, and they send you the forms. There is also a security fee as well included in there somewhere. I believe I have them listed in my signiture.

Once he paid the I-864 bill he should have received the forms, they should then be completed and kept until the day of the interview, and submitted then. I suspect your husband has the forms, just didn't realize you need them.

Is he going to the interview?
no he submitted that form to the NVC and no he won't be coming to the interview
Sorry it's been a year. If he has a copy you should have him send you one, but they (NVC) will send it to the embassy, and they (KNG) should have it. It is good to have with you in case. Though I suspect if the one from the NVC did not arrive it would still cause a delay even if you have your copy.

I'd have him do it just in case, but I honestly don't expect it would make a difference. It was sent to the embassy with the rest of your paperwork from the NVC.

Overworked and underpaid...glad to hear about the increase but chances are the taxes will go up as well...

Minimum wage increase
published: Wednesday | January 24, 2007

Edmond Campbell, Senior News Coordinator

Jamaicans now earning the National Minimum Wage will see a 14 per cent increase in their take-home pay effective next Monday.

Cabinet has approved an increase in the minimum wage which has moved from $70 per hour to $80 per hour, or from $2,800 per 40- hour work week to $3,200 for the similar period.

Industrial security guards will receive a 13.52 per cent increase in their pay, moving from $103.50 per hour to $117.50 per hour, or from $4,140 per 40-hour work week to $4,700 for the same period.

Allowances for industrial security guards have also been adjusted as follows:

Laundry allowances from $20

- $22 per hour

Firearm allowance from $21

- $25 per hour

Dog handler's allowance $15

- $17 per hour (40-hour work week)

This announcement was made in Parliament yesterday by Minister of Labour and Social Security Derrick Kellier.

Opposition Spokesman on Labour, Ruddy Spencer, said while the Jamaica Labour Party supported any measure which would provide increased benefit to minimum-wage earners, the increase provided by Government was "negligible". He said with the increase, the workers' spending power when compared with their earnings last year had declined in real terms.

"The worker with this increase is in a worse position. I am not excited about the increase," Mr. Spencer lamented.

 that's less than $ 50.00 USD per 40 hour work week; and yet they pay the same or more for many retail items.

And that is why I won't have my wife working there. In my opinion the pay isn't worth her time.

One more question before I leave can I request a date for my interview? I was hoping that my interview could be around March 26 through March 30th. I have that week off for Spring break. Has anyone ever done this?

Thanks,
Jax

I tried to do that last year with little luck. What I got was a date 2 days after the range I asked for. I was in Kingston for business. I ended up requesting a vacation so I could stay on the island a few extra days. My boss decided he'd rather have me working in Kingston than on vacation, so I got to stay for the interview.

Well the embassy is now late in responding to my senator.

You know I wonder if those people at the embassy are jealous that they can't migrate. :protest:

:help: When you ladies had your men get police certificates did they express them and get them the next day? I heard if he express it he pays $3,500 JA's is that true? I am having hubby spend the night in Kingston to get it the next day. What is a good hotel for him to stay at near the police station? How much did it cost? He will be taking a bus from MoBay to Kingston. Any advice would be welcomed.

Thank you,

Jax

If he is taking the bus from Mobay to Kingston I expect cost may be of primary concern. If that is the case I can provide you the number of a reliable fair taxi man in Kingston, who can pick him up at the bus park and bring him to a guest house with a nightly cost of around $1300.

Just got off the phone with the Embassy again, good news they finally realize she is again eligible, and will be scheduling her a March interview. Interview not yet set.

For those of you who are Pat's fans, I grew up in MA, and have always been a Pats fan, but more I have been a Red Sox fan, now living in Indianapolis the last 10 years, except for the time I have spent in Jamaica, I can only compare last nights game to the 2004 ALCS with the Red Sox and Yankees. Also being a Sox fan, I like to see the team with little or no championship record win it all.

So I say Go Colts.

Question: I found my the date on my I-797 (thanks everyone) but doesnt that date only apply to when you get your paperwork in? I received my NVC letter with case # after that form? I cant get an answer about this date. I am sooo confused.

Oh, yeah..I called my congressman today and put in a formal complaint about emails and phone call problems with the JA embassy. She said that they are in touch with the embassy frequently and are writing to them on Monday. I dont know what good it will do but as I said before this is OUR EMBASSY and I think that we are treated shabbily. I said that I didnt want preferential treatment just to be treated with respect by our own embassy. I'll keep you posted.

My Senator's office expects to here something from them on my case next week as well. I have been keeping them appraised as to the lack of progress in Kingston.

Eric,
Hang in there. I cant believe how unprofessional and incompetent these people are. If only one of them could be in our shoes for a few months. My next fantasy is that I want to volunteer one summer to work at the embassy just answering peoples emails and phone calls so at least we could get some answers. Something smells funny to me. Why dont they hire more people or at least people that care! I am amazed that you were able to get through to a live person. May I ask what number you are calling and what choices you are making with the automated system. I have tried two options and they both just disconnect me. Good Luck with your case! :)

It does go straight to a beep and disconnect often.
It is the mission of the US Embassy in Jamaica to keep Jamaicans in Jamaica any way they can, that is all there is to it.

I think they are scrambling to find another way to keep her out, I don't think anyone there expected someone to actually come back after the 3 years were up. They expect that the delay would end the relationship. I'll admit it came close a few times, but dammit they are going to let her in or I will get her here another way. They have NO RIGHT. I'll insist on a jury trial if I get caught. But that's still a while off. I'm going to fight them. Worse case she'll get in line with the mexicans for amnesty.

Congrats Texas,

But I think it was me keeping the line busy. I have never ran across such an incompetent group of people in my life. I managed to get through, and the first person that looks at the file asks me if I know why she was denied. I answer yes. She says it takes 3 years before the case can be reevaluated. I say I know, she was delcine previously and the 3 years are now up. She was declided on a K3 on Jan 7th 2004. She says hold on... 7 minutes later dial tone.

I manage to get through again, explain to the next idiot where I left off with the last. Hold on she says... 5 minutes later dial tone

I manage to get through again, explain to the next idiot where I left off with the last. Hold on she says I need to find the previous file let me get your email address... 6 minutes later dial tone

I manage to get through again, I start to explain to the next idiot where I left off with the last. Yes we've spoke she says hold on. 1 minute later dial tone.

I manage to get through again, explain to the next idiot where I left off with the last. Yes you spoke with a supervisor earlier, we have to investigate the case.

15 minutes ago I emailed them all the investigation they should need, the form that they provided during the April interview stating my wife's case will received furthur consideration after January 8th 2007. Of course I wonder if the idiots in Kingston will know how to open a PDF file. :) :jest:

Another question!!

As you can tell I am having THOUGHTS running through my head

Is there anyone on this board who is American and moved to Jamaica to be with there SO? I'm contemplating it - I thought about filing bankruptcy and running away from this place I call MY COUNTRY - Why are they so strict? Some people can walk across the boarder but the man I love can't get here before jumping over hurdles.

Sorry, not trying to offend anyone, just venting!

Hi,
Yes, I have twice, several years ago. Depending on the area you live in there might be quite an adjustment. I was in Negril both times and was quite bored the adjustment of not having American things ie, movieplex, 24 hour services, washer & dryers, friends, book stores, malls, was not too bad.

Hello,
I am newly married to a wonderful man that I met in Jamaica. We are very much in love and passionate about being together. This feels like forever!
I think about moving there often. My husband lives in the country, its nice and easy and slow. I have a 21 month old son who I think would have a lot of fun there. But what do I do for money?? We have been married two months and my phone bills was 2x the rent! its crazy! I miss him like crazy though so when your ready let me know!

Welcome to the yardies and VJ Mrs. Forrester. How is your visa process going? All the best with the K-3 or CR-1 visa :)!

I've lived in JA he majority of the last 3 years, due to Visa problems. It's not something I would reccommend. You will have to deal with JA immigration and work permit waivers. Formalities mostly, don't expect any problems there. I actually avoided that by claiming citizenship. Mom is from JA. Salaries are extremely low by US standards. Cost of living is much higher to live at US standards.

Here is the big drawback, if you later want to bring your SO to the US, you will have no acceptable income for the Affidavit of Support. I work for a US company with an office in JA, so I've been able to come and go fairly regularly.

Wait it out. Make sure him na smoke ganja. If he does he needs to stop now and lie. Other drugs can be a problem too, but this is the Kingston embassys favorite way to keep Jamaicans in Jamaica.

Try to have him get a home phone, prepaid cost next to nothing. Hopefully next month there will be a way for you to get an internet phone at home with a JA phone number.

Good luck.

I forgot to tell everyone this but if you have a CVS in your area they have Sprint International phone cards on sale, buy one get one free. So if you buy one for $20 you will get another $20 card free. Good deal. And if you recharge it at the store you get 10% more time added.

I got only about 16 minutes on a $10 sprint card from CVS. I get 39 Minutes for a $10 (AT&T International Card at WalMart) Digicel

Check out www.sendtoglobal.com I believe the costs are about the same as AT&T, but much easier to use.

Still waiting on www.flowjamaica.com to come out with their Vonage type line with a Jamaica phone number. $0.15 to Digicel Free to MiPhones. I expect this to be available next month.

i would like to be sure that it actually takes about two months to get an interview for a CR-1 visa in jamaica because i gave up a job oppurtunity just yesterday. i need to be sure.

Honestly I'd say since they moved last month nothing is as it used to be. I don't think anyone has any current info.

Still no word. I have no patience left for these people. I now have my Senator's Office harrasing them today.

I did the same thing getting antsy early on. But stopped pursuing it. Im in between right now, I worry about retaliation. I feel like when I finally get there they are going to be like oh thats the one from Texas!!! Ha. Theyve been checking my emails today but of course there isnt a response back. I get email confirmations back.

I've gotten beyond worrying about what they think. I may show up there myself Monday morning, as it looks like I may be flying down for business Friday.

Sorry I bailed out again. Too many happy people here for my situation. I spent the majority of the 8 months in Jamaica with my wife. I'm about ready to try for the third time, if I can ever get past the madness in Kingston. My wife's 3 years is up. This time it should only be fresh photos and another interview, if we can ever get ahold of someone to reopen the case.

Welcome back stranger :P We're not always THAT happy on here  What happened when you appealed your case? There have been more people on here to get denied for the same reason as you guys who are wondering what their options are. I'm glad her 3 year ban is now up - good luck with the interview. Please keep us posted.

I never filed the I-690, though when I went in for my wife's IR1 interview, and they brought up the 3 year bar, expecting the issue I pulled out a completed I-690, the shocked interviewer took the form and went to talk to people and can back 20 minutes later saying they do not accept this form there. That being the case, I believed that I could eventually file it, then of course be denied on it and have to file an administerative appeal. Since at that time I was only 9 months away from the end of the 3 year bar, I determined that since the government moves so slow, especially there the amount of time gained by following that route would be minimal if even successful.
