Africa: Sub-SaharanIV civil documents

I'm mailing my civil documents Monday, finished the form online today.  I wonder if I should include "relationship" stuff in the mailing?  I included emails and a few tickets with my initial packet, I've never been asked for more.  The list of civil documents doesn't ask for any "relationship stuff" but maybe I should include it?  What do you think?

Africa: Sub-Saharan2014: East African experience

My husband and I are waiting for our interview date.  I mailed my last documents about 2 weeks ago (side loaded), and am just waiting.  I also last week mailed a package of documents to my husband in Kenya (USPS - $70 - praying they get there).  So?.just waiting.

I realize we need visa in hand. I'm more concerned if there is an issue with me purchasing the ticket because he can't show the credit card used to purchase the ticket. I've heard of this in Nigeria but wonder if its an issue in Kenya

Yes, I am asking after the visa is in hand... Does he need to buy the plane ticket or can I?

Africa: Sub-SaharanFlight purchase for husband to come to US

My husband is Kenyan.  He has his interview on 4-1 and we are of course praying he will be coming to the US soon.  I've read for Nigerians, it's best for the immigrant to buy the plane ticket.  For Kenyans is it the same?  I don't want anything to hold us up, but if I can buy it online I feel like I might be able to get a better deal.  I appreciate your input.

Husband was approved today. He had an approx 50 yr old white lady. He said they asked the following: how many times have you seen her, do you have any pics, and how do you communicate with her. Best of luck to all!

Congrats for your approval...you will be OK..just keep bugging them the status of your visa..your fiance needs to do that as well...did your fiance attended at the interview.  I am wondering why they called you back.  Didn't they ask you in the first interview about your fiance?

What do you know about the approval rate at the Kenyan Embassy... I hear lots horrible stories especially from Nigeria and wondering if the case at the Kenyan embassy is like that as well.

I'm wondering the same thing??my husband is really prepared for his interview but I just have been wondering what the overall approval rate was especially after reading about Nigeria.

Asia: East and PacificCambodian Engagement Ceremony

I just got back from Cambodia and meeting my fiancee in person. While there we had an engagement ceremony with permission from the government for just an engagement ceremony. I was wondering if I should mention this in the "how we met" section and if I will be fine to include pictures of the engagement. I am a little afraid they may take it as a wedding ceremony when it wasn't and make me file the spouse visa instead. The words written on the wall behind us in the photos say engagement in Khmer and I can edit the photo to include this in English as well.

Thanks

Asia: East and PacificBeneficiary working in different country after filing I-129F

I was informed via email from the embassy in PP that Packet 3 will be mailed out to the "nominated mailing addres". I have no clue which they are referring to (petitioner or beneficiary).  I am the petitioner and as of today it has been a week and I haven't received my packet 3 in the mail yet however I have submitted my packet 3 to them already base on the link provided in the email.

It will be interesting to know how long it will take for the actual hard copy of packet 3 to reach me in CA, USA. I assume this will be the same case when it's time for them to mail out the hard copy of Packet 4.

Yeah wish I knew too. I am thinking of changing my fiancee's mailing address with the embassy or USCIS to her cousin's in Phnom Penh since I think it would be easier for her to get the package than for them to try to send to her house. I'll also be downloading and completing Packet 3 docs beforehand so I don't have to wait for them.

Asia: East and PacificBeneficiary working in different country after filing I-129F
I filed the I-129F towards the end of July and used my fiancee's address in Cambodia where she currently lives with her parents. She wants to go to Thailand and work while we wait for the NOA2 and the interview to be scheduled and I am wondering if this will cause any issues.

I'm pretty sure that when the Embassy receives her file the won't be able to mail her anything because of no real mail system where she is in Cambodia so I figured they'd call her and have her come pick it up. With her being in Thailand they'd only reach her parents.

Is any of this going to be an issue? I believe she is going to have to go to Thailand anyway to get a criminal record check since she worked there last year but I want to make sure her going back after I filed isn't going to cause delays or issues.

Did any of you ever submit Pakistani birth certificates that are written both in english and in Urdu and had issues with USCIS?

Did you guys have it translated even though it's in english as well as in urdu?

If not translated, did you ever get an RFE for submitting BC the way it is?

Thanks!

Hey Everyone!

As you can see I am new to the site, I am really glad to have found it. please read me and my fiance story under OUR STORY.
I have a question for all you who have experience with the Kingston embassy. I am scheduled to go to Jamaica for an event in April, however I just found out they wont be scheduling interviews till May. I am trying to get advice on whether it is better to cancel going to this event I really want to go to and of course getting to spend time with my Boo or forgo it to spend a few days with him in May and go to the interview with him. Is the interview process tedious, Is it something he can do on his own? Do I really need to be there? Is it more difficult to get through somehow with me not there. AS YOU CAN SEE, my head is whirling with questions. Please give me your feedback, as you all have some experience.

Thanks

Tenika

I would definately go to the interview with him. YOU being there is the best "proof of relationship" that there is  Some of the couples who weren't there with their fiance didn't get approved right away or had some issues. It just seems more legit if the fiance (you) is there for the interview also. Just my opinion. So if you can do it, I would be there with him.

They force you to use vacation time??? I worked for GM for 13 years, I always collected unemployment and Sub pay. I never took a vacation. They closed the plant in 89.

Yes, my first year they gave me 10 vacation days and made me use 9 of them during the first two weeks in July! :o We didn't have to use one for the actual July 4th - just the other 9 days!!

Now I think I get 12 1/2 days and then I purchase 5 more so I have 17 1/2 altogether. Still gotta use 9 in July though. It sucks. I would rather be laid off for 2 weeks.

This must not be a UAW position.

Eric,
No, I'm not in the UAW - I'm a production supervisor. They have also changed the rules for the UAW though. Now the first week they are given holiday pay and the 2nd week they have to use their vacation time. It was something negotiated in the contract awhile back.

We had had model changes that had lasted 6-8 weeks, what would happen then? If I didn't take the buyout when they closed the plant in 89 I'd have 7 months till 30 and out, tell me they changed that too... Please...

christine...jealous of your trip, even though I just got back...

i have to ask, could this be the reignition of a JA relationship....???

Ummm, I don't think so. We haven't spoke in a while....but he does know I am heading down there. And we've chatted a little bit here and there just recently....but I still can't get over that 3 year ban!!! :bonk:

I am single and who knows if I will be in 2008!?!?!? :P

Only a year and a half away. You gotta be in the right mind set to go through all that again. And I just don't know ladies.

Only time will tell.

Sounds like the Ganga ban, there is a waiver now. And if the Doctor doing the Physical determines you are in remission from previous drug abuse you are no longer considered inadmissable.

My wife had the same problem.

I had read that earlier. Again, I just don't know if I could go through that all again. I'm sure if I had the means to see and even talk to him more this wouldn't be an issue. Since I bought my home, my finances are not what they use to be. Therefore I can not travel to see him as much as I did and would like to.

I agree Anna....its a joke. Go figure.

Well we will know soon enough if this actually works. My wife is waiting on an Interview date now. IR-1, the original petition filed before the K-3. Of course if all goes well, since now we have been married over 3 years she should get her green card and SSN sent to her within a couple weeks after arriving.

WOW Rhonda, that sucks that you got sick while on vacation. I was wondering how DR was, I had told Adrian that I wanted to go there some time, but now with your experience we might think of some where else, I have always wanted to go to Trinidad.
Rhonda I asked you a while back but you never responded, dont you get "mandatory" vacation in July...I couldnt remember if it was you or Jamie who's work closed in July and you had to take vacation?

Joanna

Yes, they force us to use our vacation time in July. Usually it's the first TWO weeks in July but this year it may only be one week and we may have to work the 2nd week. All of the Big 3 auto company's usually shut-down during this two weeks - GM, Ford, & Chrysler. Why do you ask?

If extending my time on the Island come close to having a possibility to end this turmoil once and for all, I do have another weeks vacation left. Though I planned to use it for the interview when it happened anyway. At the office, they know what is going on... and they are more than willing to help.

We shall see, I am the Corporate Jamaican lol... Actually my Mom is from Jamaica and I have Dual Citizenship. Depending on how the startup goes, it's hard to say how long I could be there.

Eric & Joanna -- Any luck with the Embassy? :P

Darah -- Yes, thank you very much. I used both letters -- yours and Jamie's. I am done with my "packets" Just waiting for the Marriage Certificate, the passport photos (getting those tomorrow) and the Vaccination Supplement (Dr on Friday). Thank you, again!!

sjb -- Welcome back. Hope you guys had a wonderful time!!

Rhonda is coming home -- this will end the VJ quiet spell

After 45 minutes of a ringing phone, and most people in my office questioning what was going on what I found was, Nickiesha does not have an interview date yet, and they have schedulede April. SJB~ Fortunatly the racism thing hasn't come up to much...and the rules and manners  Working on that

I think one of the big issues is the fact that we are now on my "turf" and not on his.

my husband is exactly like that. welcome to the nature of jamaican men. over all they are very loving but pride will kill them.

Not just the men... :)

you are right. god knows i tell my family all the time that pride will kill us all.

Temper too, I always thought it was a family thing until I started spending more time on the island. One of my biggest fears is when my wife gets here someone will make a pass at her and she'll knock them out...

It's going to be a big adjustment for her. I hope she can handle the adjustment, I couldn't adjust to living in JA.

SJB~ Fortunatly the racism thing hasn't come up to much...and the rules and manners  Working on that

I think one of the big issues is the fact that we are now on my "turf" and not on his. It was all good and dandy in JA where he knew how to shop, get transportation, handle all sorts of various issues as they would arise...he got to show off his stuff so to speak. I wasn't completely helpless but to a certain extent (especially on the first few trips) I didn't no ####### and I was very naïve. I was the one that everyone (Andre included) joked about because I did something out the norm, or the way I said a word in patois, the outfit I chose to wear, the way I did my hair...granted it was all in fun and friendly laughter...not really laughing at me but it was towards ME. They were joking about my naïve self and the way us "white girls" acted.

That’s the key. Now that Andre is the one that the joking is towards it is not ok to him...all of sudden its not ok to laugh anymore because it's about him. He is now the one that people joke about...the way he says slang in English or the way he perceives certain things, nothing that is serious or a real problem...again its amongst family and friends (even the friends he has made on his own) and its all out of love but he takes it so personally...especially coming from me. Like he thinks I am out to sabotage him or make him look stupid in front of people. What he doesn't realize is that it is exactly what happened to me when I first got to JA. It was me learning to fit in and adapt...joking was part of the learning process...and I agree at times what I did was funny and I even laughed at myself. If I were to have taken things so seriously I never would have made it through my first trip. I have talked to him about it many times and have been as sensitive as humanly possible...but there comes a time where he is being ULTRA overly sensitive and he isn't even fun to be around. Honestly this is the biggest struggle. This has caused many fights and many shed tears.

Anyone else experience this kind of thing?

He wants the dang Razr cell phone soooooo bad and we got into our 1st big argument the other day about it....finally I told him fine then go get it and waste our money that we have been saving...he does not realize that in the US you have to buy a cell phone from the company that you have service with or the phone will not work...

Razr are certainly a Jamaican desire, a status symbol thing. My wife wants a Pink one (the most expensive). I told her I'd get her one, but will not have her get one in JA. They are over 30,000J there. On Ebay you can get an unlocked one for about $250US, which can work with any SIM Card. Funny thing is, I found a better phone (More features) Motorola MPX-220, which is an MP3 player, and can play video's uploaded from your PC. She still wants the Razr.

She'll get it when I go down for the interview.

Not yet, I just received notification of the case going to Kingston today dated the 23rd. If I recall correctly they usually schedule the interviews at the beginning of the month for the following month. If this policy is still in effect we should here something soon for a date in April.

This is so crazy. They don't respond to your e-mails... and good luck getting someone on the phone the only two days they take calls.

I'm going back to JA Friday, and plan to go to the embassy on Wednesday before I fly back. I have business in Mobay which will be completed on Tuesday. I fly back to the US on Wednesday out of Kingston. It comes in handy working for a company with an office in Jamaica.

OK LADIES NOW I'M GETTING A LITTLE FRUSTRATED WITH THE EMBASSY!!! I CALLED ON TUESDAY TO SEE IF MY FILE HAD REACHED THEM.... AND WAS TOLD TO CALL BACK ON FRIDAY BETWEEN 1:30 - 3:30. SO TODAY I STARTED CALLING AT 1:30 (THEIR TIME) NEVER GOT A LIVE ANSWER UNTIL 3:05 AND WAS THEN TOLD THAT EVERYONE WAS GONE HOME AND TO CALL BACK ON WEDSNESDAY :o  THEY ONLY TAKE CALLS ON CERTAIN DAYS THEN GO HOME EARLY!!!! SO I GUESS I'LL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL NEXT WEEK TO GET AN ANSWER FROM SOMEONE, THAT IS IF THEY ANSWER THE PHONES BEFORE DECIDING TO LEAVE FOR THE DAY

Sonshyne, anything new?

I finally got a hold of someone on 1-3-07 and was told my case was received on 12-22 and packet #3 was mailed out on the 29th. I had my fiancee go to the post office on 1-6.... Of course.... It wasn't there  I'm going to mail off the DS230 myself directly to them.

It seems obvious to me that all these changes have been made intentionally to slow down the process.

Their website explaining the changes has much to be desired. From what I was able to find on the website, and what they gave my wife when they wouldn't let her in to reopen her case, to go to the informtion window you must now request an appointment via an email to KingstonIVInfo@state.gov Though of course nobody anwsers the email.

How many Jamaican's have access to email, or know how to use it. (this is not a slur on Jamaicans) The embassy has obviously lost sight of its purpose.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaJamaica Addresses Question

Who knew? Maybe that will help the mail get delivered faster.

I wouldn't count on it. There are actually some places in JA where they deliver mail. When I was living in Portmore I actually had mail delivered.
At our office in Mobay the electric bill usually comes in a day after it is due, if at all.

FedEx is prety reliable to JA, we've used them for years, costly though. I usually include the things I want to send the wife in a package going to the office, and she picks it up there.

As far as the address, believe what they say. If there is a real address it won't make sense. My last address was
Lot 428
Phase 2
Bogue Village
Montego Bay JA WI

But I lived on a street called Pearl Place.

? Have any of you as couples discussed how you would take care of your spouses parent in Jamaica when they grow old and can't take care of themselves? I know many of your spouse come from large families but in our situation my husband is an only child. Were trying to figure out what the plan would be in the coming years if she got sick or something.

My mom is calling the Kingston Embassy today because of their wacko hours I don't have time to call with work. To bad I didn't live in the Eastern time zone.

Best luck Eric with the medical and visa process.

No Visa yet :(

No major stunbling blocks ahead. Another physical is needed. Of course had they responded to my emails, we would have already had that taken care of. So she got the blue sheet, though it appears they are willing to try to get things taken care of before the police report expires in a month. So it's an email today telling them when her next physical is scheduled for. They were very quick in responding in Mobay. I was surprised. In the past I could never get through to them. The physical is Monday morning. Back to the emails and phone calls. I hope they can actually come through as promised.

Safe journey and GOOD LUCK! Write to us as soon as you can!!!

Probably won't get on till the evening. 12:45 appt, and a 4 hour drive from Kingston to Negril (actually Orange Bay) Who knows maybe a page will load faster with Digicel in Kingston as opposed to Mobay. It was way to slow in Mobay. Of course can't stay there long, wife hates Kingston since they robbed her for her Razr gettin off the bus at 3 mile. I can't understand the Jamaican love for the fancy cell phone. That was on her way to Kingston for her last interview.

I can't believe you have to prepay for parking at paymaster for parking at the embassy. Anything to make it difficult. Cha.
