Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWhen shall I apply?
I received my temporary green card in May 2009. I keep panicking that I will forget to reapply to remove the conditions. I would like to apply the soonest I can to get that burden off my shoulders. When shall I apply?

Also I have moved ever since I received the green card. Is there something I should do? Am I supposed to get anything in the mail? I was just going to put our new address on the application, would that be sufficient? We also plan on moving to another state somewhere this spring or next Fall, not sure when, should I just wait till I get my 10yr green card in the mail before we move? I am not trying to complicate things...

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionFedex
I'm not trying to get anyone worried but I was just wondering, I was at FedEx today to mail of my pack but the lady told me she couldn't send it because it's going to a P.O.box (California Service Center) and she told me Fed Ex doesn't have the keys, I have to go to the post office. So that's what I ended up doing and my pack was sent today through USPS, but now on the forum I saw several people saying they sent their pack through Fed Ex? So now I'm confused? I am assuming the lady was wrong?

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionAddress Change
Why do I need to fill out another I-865? Wouldn't AR-11 be enough, also can I just do the online form? Do you think I could be penalized for this?

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionAddress Change
Since we did our AOS our address has changed. I meant to let them know but I kept forgetting about it. A few days ago I sent in our pack for the removal of conditions and added to the coverletter that we moved and I put it on our new address (we've lived here for almost 2 years now). I wonder if you think that this is enough or if I should still send in the form for change of address?

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWhat happens next

You can stay a LPR for the rest of your life, no problem. Strictly speaking, you would have to renew your Green Card once every ten years. It's a formality without having to prove anything, done by mail via form I-90 which currently costs $450.

Many people don't renew their cards, however, until they really need it, which is only when you want to travel internationally. Your status as a LPR is even preserved when your card is expired, on the same basis that you are still a citizen of Belgium when your passport is expired.

The N-400 costs $680, plus you the money to get an additional US passport every 10 years, which currently costs at least $110 + $25 = $135.

Wow thank you so much for this clarification. I think I really have no reason to stay permanent resident, especially since Belgium now allows dual citizenship.

Yeah and $450 to replace a missing or lost GC, so hold on to it.

Oh wow, never knew that... I better do hold on to it!!!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWhat happens next
I think I will probably want to become citizen next year, but I was wondering for those that do not wish to become citizen and want to renew their 10 year card. How does that go? Do they have to go through the exact same procedure we are going through right now, pay all that money, get another biometrics and then hope you don't get denied or is the renewal process a lot easier. At least we wouldn't have to remove the conditions again. I was just wondering....

Btw, is there a fee to become citizen, and does anyone know how much it is??

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionBeing a permanent resident
Well I guess it's a 10 year card, it just says issued 2009, expires 2021. I guess I didn't pay too much attention.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionBeing a permanent resident
I just had my conditions removed and I am now a permanent resident. Got my 12 year card in the mail today yay!

Was just wondering a few things.....

As a conditional resident I was only ever able to get medicaid emergency only, because of my status. Now that I am a permanent resident, will I be able to get full medicaid, or is full medicaid only for citizens? How about unemployment? Do we still have our sponsor or is her role over now?

Another question is, if we have still have to report when we move to the immigration? If we don't become citizens, do we have to do that for the rest of our lives?

And one more question, just out of curiosity. And I don't plan on getting a weapon, don't need one, but I've always wondered if permanent residents are allowed to get a gun permit?

What other new rights & duties did we get now that we have the conditions removed? Or are they the same as for a conditional permanent resident?

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionMust she carry her green card daily?

I have my GC on me at all times. If I decide I no longer want to carry it around, what should I use as my ID?

P.s. I don't have a DL.

Get a Driver's license or an ID card. What are you waiting on?
And it says in the manual that we are obligated to carry our card on us....

For some reason I thought the processing time for the I-751 was 3 months but I just checked on the website and it says for California and Vermont service center 6 months average, and their national goal is 6 months as well, but then it says national average 13 months so I'm confused...

On another note, I had my biometrics yesterday. We were the last group to have the biometrics for that day so the office was very empty and everyone was in a good mood, ready to go home. I guess it took me about 15-20 minutes just because I was the last one of our group of 3 and only 2 computers. 2 of my fingers were rejected as well. I guess that's normal. I asked her what is the next step. She said about 85% will get their card in the mail, 15% will get another interview and 1% will get deported......... Let's pray we can all be in that 85%!

My husband's are done as well. His also had to re-do a couple of fingers because they didn't come out right. The place was pretty much empty when we went in for his appointment. It only took 15-20 minutes. Now back to just waiting.

Just curious and to get people talking...how did you originally come into the US? If it was spousal based, how did you meet your spouse? Dennis came from Canada on a K1 visa to marry me in 2009. We met in 2005 while playing World of Warcraft, but didn't get into any sort of a romantic relationship until 2007 when we met in person for the first time.

My husband and I met on myspace back in early 06.
We also did a lot of chatting and emailing and calling before we met each other. We had our marriage in 06, and this August we will be married for 5 years, with 2 kids....

Where can I find the option to set it as rich text edit?

Well if someone wants to add my updated info.... I received a NOA in the mail today, saying that my conditional resident status is extended with another year... Did everyone get this? This is the same as NOA1, right? It says receipt date: 4/8/11 but I received it today in the mail, the 15th.
I still did not change my address but it came to my current address so I guess we're fine?

I may be wrong and someone please correct me if I am, but I thought as a resident we are not allowed to get any gov aid for ourselves, but you can for the US citizens in your household. That's why we had to get the sponsor. If you get foodstamps or Cash assistance they will not calculate you in it, because you're not a citizen and I am assuming you won't qualify for unemployment for this same reason. But I am not 100% sure.

Well, we got good news and bad news today. Our NOA1 arrived today! It is dated the 4th, I've updated our entry on the list. :)

The bad news is that Dennis was laid off. :( He has been a contract worker in the IT department of this company for a year and a half. Basically he works for a middle company that contracts with another company to provide their IT support. It has nothing to do with him, the company has decided not to work with the middle company anymore. They're still hiring, but through a different company! Does anyone know about filing for unemployment as a permanent resident? I'm basically a stay-at-home mom, his income pays our bills.

I also have a question, did everyone use the postal office to send it through? Last time I went to Fed Ex but now they told me they couldn't send it since it was to a P.O.Box and only the post office has those keys? Never heard that one before...

As far as proof I used 2 affidavits (a friend and MIL), birth certificates of our mutual children, our lease, tax returns from 2009 and 2010 and 4 pages of photos.

I also sent 30+ pictures along with 3 notarized affidavits.

I didn't know they had to be notarized? That's not what the instructions said?

ok--what forms does that require? I saw the AR-11 on the USCIS forms website for his address change, but what about mine? I'm hoping also it won't be a problem that it's been 6 weeks since we moved...where does it say it must be within 10 days?

CanadaArranging interview/medical with only 2 days off work (including flights)

Hey everyone

I am from Calgary, so I am trying to figure out my interview/medical arrangements.  The problem is I only have 2 days off from work, and I am reading that the medical is only available after 4PM the day after it is completed.

So how do other people do this?  Suck it up and take a 3rd day off work?  Or are there other ways to get this done ie. can they mail the medical results to the consulate, or deliver it later?  Or other ideas?  I really don't want to have to fly out twice!

Thanks in advance,

Mark

CanadaK1 Visa Last Minute Vaccination Question

Thanks for the info!  So far things are looking good, except I have one record of an MMR shot, and one of just measles & rubella.

Does it need to be a TDAP shot specifically?  I have a record of Diphtheria, Pertussis, and Tetanus, but its split over 5 shots (1984 x 3, 1986, and 1989).

I also realized that I went to college in the USA, so I checked my colleges immunization guidelines, and I believe they have the same requirements that I need now.  Hopefully I can find those records!

CanadaK1 Visa Last Minute Vaccination Question

Hey guys

I have my medical scheduled for Monday, and my interview on wednesday in Vancouver.  Up until today, I was under the impression that the panel physicians help you determine what vaccines you need to update/have, based on the records you supply.   Apparently that was wrong though:(

Tomorrow I have an appointment at a travel clinic to get these done, but I have seen a LOT of conflicting information on what vaccines you actually need.  Is it based on age?  If so, I am 29 right now (1984). I was planning on bringing in the whole list I was sent from Dr Cheema and having them shoot me up, but if someone can give me more information, I would like the use of my arms tomorrow!

Thanks!

Hi

I feel like an idiot posting this, but somehow we missed that Vancouver asks for 3 years of tax info.  I don't know how we missed this, but my interview is this morning!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

I do have a letter from her employer stating her salary, and a letter from her bank, stating her savings/chequing. I also have 4 months of pay stubs.

I will tell her to call me and wake me up (luckily she is 3 hours ahead), so that we can try to sort this out, but if anyone can chime in and offer me some advice, that would be AMAZING!!!

Prayers please!
