PhilippinesPhilippine Embassy Rules
Hey everyone,

I got a quick question I am planning on going back to the Phils for Elenas' interview and was wondering if they still allow you to pick the visa up at the consulate? I will only have 2 weeks and we would like to travel back together if at all possible and chancing getting it via air21 is not my hopes.

I know i'm gonna end up coming back alone and she will have to travel by herself and this thought is just no fun for us.

Thanks

PhilippinesWhat's up filipinas??? No self respect??
QUOTE (Mariel_Esteban @ Apr 6 2009, 12:56 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
This is not meant to discriminate either Filipinos or Americans. It is what it is - a joke…

A Filipino is having breakfast in a hotel in France one morning… he was eating bread & jam when an American, while chewing gum, sits down next to him. The Pinoy ignores the Kano who, nevertheless, starts a conversation:

Kano: “You Filipinos eat the whole bread??”

Pinoy (nayayabangan sa Kano): “Of course.”

Kano: (after blowing a huge bubble) “We don’t. In America, we only eat what’s inside. The crusts we collect in a container, recycle it, transform them into croissants and sell them to the Philippines.”

The American has a smirk on his face. The Pinoy listens in silence. Still the American persists.

Kano: “Do you eat jelly with the bread??”

Pinoy:”Of Course.”

Kano: (cracking his gum between his teeth and chuckling). “We don’t. In America we eat fresh fruits for breakfast, then we put all the peels, seeds, and leftovers in containers, recycle them, transform them into jam and sell the jam to the Philippines.”

The Pinoy (asar na talaga) asks: “Do you have sex in America?”

Kano: “Why of course we do.”

Pinoy (now smirking): “And what do you do with the condoms once you’ve used them?”

Kano (a bit puzzled): “We throw them away, of course.”

Pinoy: “Ahh….We Pinoys don’t. In my beloved Philippines, we put them in a container, recycle them, melt them into chewing gum, and sell them to America!

And you actually had the time to scour ALMOST ALL filipina pages and checked each one of them out to see where their fiance(s) are coming from for you to make that generalization? Why don't you show the website where you got your FACTS then?

Off-Topic2.gif To the OP - There are many reasons. First, my fiancee looks at things with an almost child-like facination that is very rare in the US. Although very mature in most things, she has kept her youthful outlook regarding life and its wonders. When she laughs, she doesn't give a polite "teehee" - she really laughs. And she can always find something to laugh about, even when times aren't the best. She sees joy when others would only see despair, and by sharing that joy, she lifts me.

She is happy for what she has, rather than bitter for what she doesn't have. Her glass is always half full.

There's so much more. But to end, I would say she might also use "felt" or "spelt" - and I find that cute. Ultimately, communication is conveying an idea from one person to another. And I never have a bit of trouble knowing where I am in her life, regardless of how she spells things. Let's face it, her English beats my Tagalog by several hundred miles. smile.gif

Very well said. That is exactly my fiancee too. Always so happy, always so positive. Her laugh is so pure and joyful. I am so blessed to have her in my life. wub.gif

PhilippinesTHE WEDDING TEST
QUOTE (shang @ Apr 7 2009, 09:41 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I was a very happy man. My wonderful girlfriend and I had been dating for over a year, and so we decided to get married. There was only one ittle thing bothering me...It was her beautiful younger sister.

My prospective sister-in-law was twenty-two, wore very tight miniskirts, and generally was bra-less. She would regularly bend down when she was near me, and I always got more than a nice view. It had to be deliberate. Because she never did it when she was near anyone else.

One day her "little" sister called and asked me to come over to check the wedding invitations. She was alone when I arrived, and she whispered to me that she had feelings and desires for me that she co uldn't overcome. She told me that she wanted me just once before I got married and committed my life to her sister.

Well, I was in total shock, and couldn't say a word. She said, "I'm going upstairs to my bedroom, and if you want one last wild fling, just come up and get me." I was stunned and frozen in shock as I watched her go up the stairs. I stood there for a moment, then turned and made a beeline straight to the front door. I opened the door, and headed straight towards my car. Lo and behold, my entire future family was standing outside, all clapping!

With tears in his eyes, my father-in-law hugged me and said, "We are very happy that you have passed our little test. We couldn't ask for a better man for our daughter. Welcome to the family."

And the moral of this story is:
Always keep your condoms in your car. tongue.gif

I don't know if there is anything you can do at this point. If they have reviewed all the evidence that you have submitted, and still not changed your fiance's status, I think there is little left for you to do other than wait for his ban to pass. Even after the ban passes, you still have not satisfied them that you were not already married. Pehaps you can consider getting married in the Philippines, and pursuing one of the other routes, such as K-3, or CR-1/IR-1.

Good luck, and I hope things work out for you two. You have to find even more patience to get through this.

Yes we can refile in 3 to 4 months. but that means we are giving them the satisfacation that they did not make a mistake! and then the lady at usem said we can file for a waiver... we dont' need to file for a waiver because we have the evidence that my fiance did not overstay. a waive? and then what? waste more time waiting and waste mor money... headbonk.gif

Sounds like the best thing for all...your peace of mind and their satisfaction. THEN once you get to US start a movement to bring these mistakes to to light so others don't run into same problems that you have.

Sorry for your troubles so far.

Filipinas are so funny. I'm amazed how much you think God is involved in every little aspect of your lives. It is okay with me, I like it. I also think it is funny when someone's visa is approved or whatever is approved, and the message is always "Thanks God!"

I was kind of jealous of God when my fiance (now wife) was going through all of this... "Thanks God" all the time and I kept thinking, but I didn't say anything, what about me, how about thank Dwayne because I'm sure God didn't introduce us, didn't put us together, didn't put me up to filing for her (you know, free will prevents this). Sometimes though, I think God did play a part, because as I think about her and I meeting, so many little things could have kept us from meeting. But, even so, I'm not really thinking that God put me on the plane for the specific purpose of meeting my fiance and future wife, but she is still thanking God (bless her heart). smile.gif

What is also funny is the way God gets a high five even when someone's visa wasn't approved..... God is excused with "everything happens for a reason."

God really has it good.... even during natural disasters when lots of people are killed, but for those that lived.... "Thanks God!" What about those that died, God gets excused again with.... "it was their time to go." Simple as that and that it is funny to me!

good.gif Well, you know how it goes when u make all the rules! hehe!! good.gif

Philippinesairport tax, terminal tax etc etc... discrimination! Taxis!
QUOTE (melissa/martin @ Apr 21 2009, 08:30 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello to everybody here! My husband and I just got back from the Philippines. We stayed there for 2 weeks for his dental work and spent the holy week with my family. On the day of our flight, (it was at Centennial Airport PAL). We checked in our bags, showed them our passports, greencard etc etc... The lady told first that I have to pay Php 1,620 for the tax plus Php750 terminal tax. I was like huh? Isn't it included in my ticket already? she said no... then she paused and looked for my greencard and said "oh i'm sorry you only have to pay Php200 plus Php750. I didn't see your greencard" She said i need to go to the "information" and get a paper for tax exemption and give it to her(she said i don't need to get in the line). My husband called it "ransom" only in the Philippines you cant leave without paying the Php750.

Aren't you guys angry about those taxes? I mean... they don't accept cards! only cash either in peso or dollar! WHY? I don't understand. Please enlighten me. Why don't they just put it all in the ticket? or charge the airline and let the airline do whatever they want to collect those. Why is it always cash? why not credit cards or debit cards? I know I sound naive but I just simply don't understand. grrr!!! and why the OFW don't need to pay anything?!?! just because they think immigrants and those who are going for tourist have more money? eh?

Also, have you seen anything like this? We stayed at Bellevue Manila in Ayala-Alabang because they have a holy week promo for two nights it cost only Pho6,000. But you will also see on their website "This is only for Filipino residents" Nakakaloka ang discrimination!

We went to Ayala Museum... they charge more to tourist than Pinoys. Bakit?! I have never seen anything like this in USA. Wow nakakahiya! I feel so ashamed about this in front of my husband. USA never ever charges different rates just because you are a Pinoy, Japanese, Chinese etc.. etc...

Additional:

Taxis! omg... they will always always! try to give you a high rate, won't use their meter and the baddest of all is that when we are already seated and moving the driver will say "pede makidagdagan nalang po? or something like metro plus 100" (could you please add after the meter? or meter plus 100pesos) Thats when we are inside and the taxi is moving already. My husband was so angry and we would just leave it doesnt matter where or if its in an intersection and won't close the door.

Grabe! Just sharing!

Yes it is disheartening how they always try to take the Kanos money any way they can but be assured it is not only in the Philippines that this happens, it happens all over the world.

PhilippinesHow to Send Money to your Fiancee/Wife in PH for FREE!
I did this with an account at my bank they charge $2 per transaction and 2% of withdrawal its much better than wiring money.

But they wouldn't let me add her to the account because she could not sign anything and she has no type of US ID. If it wasn't so late in our journey I would try this.

Yah, I thought about that too but my fiance is in Cebu, and DHL FedeX and Philippine Post office have always been able to find her except when I sent few cards with $$ through regular mail then somehow they ended up in the Pacific Ocean or Philippine Sea someplace. rofl.gif

MEDICAL EXAMINATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR IMMIGRANT, "K" AND "V" VISA APPLICANTS

Under U.S. immigration law, ALL applicants for immigrant, "K," and "V" visas are required to undergo and complete a medical examination, regardless of age. The medical examination findings by a panel physician are binding on the consular and used to determine eligibility to receive a visa.

St. Luke's Medical Center Extension Clinic (SLMCEC) is the Embassy's accredited medical facility. It is located at 1177 J. Bocobo St., Ermita, Manila. The telephone numbers are 521-0020 and 521-8647, and it is open for business Monday through Friday (except on Philippine holidays), from 7:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and from 1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. When you go to SLMCEC for medical examination, you must bring your interview appointment letter, passport, and one photo (size: 2" x 2").

It is important that you must have completed your medical examination when you come to the Embassy for your visa interview. Otherwise, your visa application will be refused or you may be asked to return for another appointment. The medical examination results are delivered directly to the Embassy.

I. First-Come, First-Served

Applicants are examined on a first-come, first-served basis. Medical examinations may take more than one day to complete. Female applicants may request a female doctor to perform the examination. Unless it is necessary, do not bring companions due to space limitation at the clinic.

II. Fees

The medical examination fee is $95 USD for adults (15 years of age or older) and $67 USD for children (14 years of age or younger). Repeat X-rays will cost $7 US each. Fees must be paid in their Philippine peso equivalent at the prevailing U.S. Embassy exchange rate.

III. X-Rays

A chest X-ray is not required for children below 15 years old, unless symptoms of tuberculosis (TB) exist, there is a history of TB, or there has been possible exposure of TB with a known case such as contact with a family or household member with TB.

Chest X-rays for pregnant women are not dangerous if taken with the proper shielding. U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS)/Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has approved an exception to the chest X-ray requirement for pregnant women if they do not want to take it. However, pregnant women visa applicants are advised to obtain a tuberculin skin test and any necessary follow-up at the local health department after arriving in the United States.

Applicants who have previous chest X-rays must bring the results with them to SLMCEC for comparative analysis.

IV. Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Test

HIV infection, which may lead to Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), is a communicable disease of public health significance. ALL applicants 15 years of age or older must be tested for evidence of HIV infection. Those under the age of 15 may be tested if there is reason to suspect HIV infection (for example a child whose natural parent is HIV-positive).

V. Divulgence of Contents of Medical Exam Reports

Visa records, including medical exam reports in support of a visa application, are confidential under the law and are generally NOT releasable. Consular officers may not divulge the particulars of an applicant's physical or mental health.

VACCINATION REQUIREMENT FOR "K" VISA APPLICANTS

U.S. immigration law requires that ALL intending immigrants be vaccinated against certain vaccine-preventable diseases before they can be admitted to the United States for permanent residence.

Vaccinations currently required are as follows:
- Mumps
- Measles
- Rubella
- Polio
- Tetanus and Diphtheria toxoids
- Pertussis
- Influenza Type B
- Hepatitis Type B
- Varicella
- Pneumoccocal

"K" visa applicants, as non-immigrant visa applicants, are technically not subject to the vaccination requirement. "K" visa applicants who refuse to comply with the vaccination requirement WILL NOT be denied a visa on that basis. As a matter of expediency, however, it is encouraged that "K" visa applicants meet the vaccination requirement before they are admitted into the U.S.

Bring your Vaccination Records for the Panel Physician's Review

You should bring records to show that you have already received vaccinations against certain vaccine-preventable diseases. The panel physician will review the vaccination records and will determine if you meet the vaccination requirement. Only the panel physician can determine which vaccinations are medically appropriate. This could mean that you may be required to repeat doses of vaccines that you have already received. Administering a second dose, however, will not endanger your health.

Adjustment of Status Application After "K" Applicant's Admission Into The U.S.

After you have been admitted to the U.S. in "K" status and apply for adjustment from non-immigrant to a permanent resident (green card holder), the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will use the panel physician's vaccination assessment to determine your admissibility on medical grounds. Applicants who have not fully complied with the vaccination requirement will have to do so before they may finalize their adjustment of status in the U.S.

Vaccination Requirement Waiver

A decision to grant a waiver of the vaccination requirement will only be made at the time an adjustment of status is filed and reviewed by the USCIS.

This story never made headlines in USA

I assume it was a headlines in PI

Hmm it was in the Washington Post , The New York Times, The Boston Globe and on FoxNews, ABC News, The Associated Press all throughout 2006 and into 2007 with follow ups during the past few years. What is a headline in the USA now 24/7 broadcasting?

Maybe I spend too much time reading and watching the news...LOL devil.gif

Philippinesswine flu
WASHINGTON — The U.S. declared a public health emergency Sunday to deal with the emerging new swine flu, much like the government does to prepare for approaching hurricanes.

Officials reported 20 U.S. cases of swine flu in five states so far, with the latest in Ohio and New York. Unlike in Mexico where the same strain appears to be killing dozens of people, cases in the United State have been mild — and U.S. health authorities can't yet explain why.

my airline going to US which is from Manila - LAX is PAL and im changing an airline from LAX-Ohio which is Delta Air.
Since its a domestic flight, do they charge excess baggage?

thank you

This all depends on your status with Delta/NWA. If you are Platinum Elite Plus, you can have up to three bags no charge per person. Fourth and beyond are an additional $100 charge each.

I would call Delta to ensure this is the policy they are adhering to. Only Delta can tell for sure.

If you have not signed up for a Delta Sky Miles Card, I would strongly Suggest that you do so as you will be loosing all these traveled miles as credit towards future travel. Every little bit helps.
