guess most of us see the finish line by now, or is someone still waiting to hear from California?

Dunno about wanting to hear from California, but I'm certainly waiting to hear from cwaf! laughing.gif I think we need to keep this baby open until we all have visas in hand. yes.gif

Hey Damian! nothing new here YET! As of Friday, the Embassy said our packet was not there even though I tracked it through DHL. They are on national holiday today, so we will try again tomorrow. Interestingly, though, I had sent a letter to my congressman and I received a followup letter from them on Saturday. Their answer was:
"Dear Cwaf (or similar yes.gif ),
Thank you for contacting me with the problem you are having receiving an informative response to your repeated inquiries to the NVC. I appreciate this opportunity to assist you.
I have reviewed this matter and have contacted the appropriate agency on your behalf. My staff and I will continue to work with the US Embassy in Ukraine until its review is complete. Upon receipt of a response, I will be in contact with you again. if you have any questions.........call....." and then signed by Dan Burton
then, handwritten below that was "I have sent communication to the Embassy in Kiev to make sure they have the case and will schedule the final interview. I will be in touch", and signed by KLB, "special assistant".....
So, maybe good things will happen for us, or maybe they will make someone angry and I get showed to the bottom of the pile! hahaha

Holiday here too, cwaf. Oh well, I still reckon you'll get your interview date before me. I have to wait for my long form birth certficate and police certificate before I can do any more. Should be here this week though!

What holiday is it for you? In Ukraine, it is their Independence Day (itwas yesterday, so celebrated on Monday, as well)

The date ranges I had put in on the DHL page had shown only 1 shipment in 75 going to Frankfurt Germany on August 19th and the NVC lady had said my information was shown as recieved on Aug 18th. So I am taking a leap of faith that it is my file. innocent.gif

AMEN

okay so I think I found my package to the consulate using DHL. The NVC lady said my package was received yesterday. I did the DHL search and there was a 3 lb package shipped to Frankfurt, Germany today. Could it really go though that fast!? blink.gif

How do you do this without a reference number?

the first part is from another post elsewhere in VJ.
the DHL trick is as follows:
Tracking Instructions for DHL
http://www.dhl-usa.com/home/home.asp
Track by Reference
Reference: (Depends on Embassy)
I-730
EXPEDITE NIV SECTION (Maybe Non-Immigrant Visas)
EXPEDITE IV SECTION (Maybe Immigrant Visas)
CORRESPONDENCE

Put the range of dates around the date that NVC gives you as package has been shipped.
And there you have it.

The above can be a little confusing, and initially gave me no responses. So I checked the thread a little deeper and found what to type in the 'reference' box on the website. Since mine was shipped on August 15, I used track by reference "EXP 15 AUG 2008A" and then set my date ranges from August 14 (shipping) through August 18,....it came back with quite a few --45.....I scrolled through them and found one from the 15th that was going to Kiev---the only one to Kiev. So I figured it was a safe bet that it was mine!

Thanks cwaf. I do see a 19 Aug shipment to London, so I guess that could be mine.

You are welcome! smile.gif I hope it is there now!

Well, Sveta called the Embassy in Kiev this morning and was told that our documents had not yet arrived. DHL tracking shows it arrived on the 18th in the afternoon, so I figure they simply do not have it entered into the system yet. She was told to wait until next week to call back, but I think we will just wait until Friday. innocent.gif

It's a race to see who gets their interview first now, cwaf laughing.gif

I reckon you'll win, because I'm waiting until my police certificate/long form birth certificate come before I post my packet 3. Speaking of which, any ideas on my question over at the Consular Discussion forum?

whistling.gif
I answered in that other forum area. I cannot believe it is going to take 60 days to get the long form birth certificate for you! Maybe that is their standard answer and it actually will arrive ina week or two.

Cool beans!!! But doesn't she have to receive/fill in/send off the packet 3 forms before her embassy can schedule the interview? Or did you already do that electronically?

Total result either way I guess! good.gif

No..in Ukraine, you can download packet 3 from the Embassy website and fill it all in. Nothing is sent in ahead of time, not even the signature checklist. All is carried in at the time of the interview. We downloaded everything a long time ago, but the new DS-156 and DS-156k forms were completed online and printed out to be signed. I took them with me in May and gave them to Sveta. :-)

I'm kind of jealous of embassies that work this way! I believe the Manila embassy does, too. What's the standard wait for an interview in Ukraine?

they had been saying "two months out", but someone else from here has messages me and they had the chance to get one about 5 pr 6 weeks out--and that was a week or so ago. I am hoping the summer 'rush' is over and that it can be done in about 4 or 5 weeks. They may STILL get here before the end of September! :-)

I hope they do! I didn't think any of us would still be waiting now...however, we're all going to get through it in the end, and that's what matters most. smile.gif I thought that each stage would get a little bit easier but it doesn't...now I'm really, really worried that something will happen between now and when Dennis crosses the border. I've heard about some of the smaller POEs have given people trouble...I really hope we don't have a problem!

We will probably come in through JFK, and I have heard they can get the work permit at that time. However, if Chicago flights are much less expensive, I will not hesitate to fly through there and worry about the permits later! I do not have much of a choice as to large or small POE since I will bring them back internationally. I hope you have no trouble! About 5 years ago I drove up to Winnipeg to visit a friend. I got the 3rd degree going into Canada, but only had a couple of questions when coming back. I figured it would be tougher to enter the US rather than leave it, but I was surprised!

I had to go in and talk to an officer the first time I went into Canada...but I thought it was because I'd never been there before. Plus, it was suspicious because I had flow into Fargo (about 2 hours from the border) because I didn't have time to get my passport before the trip, so I could only drive across the border...so Dennis and I were in the same car. smile.gif That's what we're figuring, too...if they give us one then great! If not, we're prepared for that. I've heard it's hard to get employment on the temporary ones anyway, because no one wants or take the risk of "Will they actually receive their EAD?"

good point about the temporary one! I am not planning on throwing them into the work force right away, anyway. whistling.gif

Packet 3 has arrived - another step closer!!

Well Damian, you are well ahead of me now! Mine still has not left the NVC. I am into week 4 of NVC Hell....even THEY say '2-4 weeks is normal', so it had better leave this week! ranting33va.gif

Morning, cwaf. You know, after the initial 5 months of CSC bullshit, things have moved along at an incredibly rapid pace. I mean, NVC received my file 1 week after NOA2, they dispatched it to London 2 days after that, and London posted it to me 4 days after that!! The only reason it took 10 days to get to my house from the embassy, is because they didn't use the correct postcode!!!

I can only think that it's an "embassy efficiency" thing, as those going through London seem to be having no issues whatsoever. But hang on in there, buddy, you know it's gonna happen soon. Lord knows my work here is not done until you have your missus with you stateside!!

hey Damian!! The NVC FINALLY came through for me! I called today and they shipped my paperwork on FRIDAY! I tracked through DHL and saw one package that went to Kiev, and it arrived yesterday!! (18th) I will have Sveta call the Embassy tomorrow and try to schedule her interview! I finally feel like I am hitting the home stretch on this FIRST part of their journey to be with me! kicking.gif

I called the NVC again this morning and got the same song and dance as before: "administrative processing" I pressed him for more information and told him that at other times I had been told it was in security check. He said there was nothing he could see that would indicate anything like that. I asked if there is someone who has been assigned to my case, like they do at the CSC, and he said there was no way for him to know. When I asked if I could speak to someone who WOULD know, he said there is no one that can give any more information that what I have already been told. He repeated the same standard line that "each case is different and we cannot tell how long it will take to complete".
After I hung up with him, I called my congressman's office and spoke to them. The woman who answered said that no one is processed at the NVC in only a couple of days, and I corrected her (politely) and said that I know of several who have had that experience, and I mentioned this forum. Then she said that "maybe they do not have any visa slots available" and I explained to her that does not relate to my situation as a 'visa slot' is not required like in standard immigration requests. She told me to write a letter with all the information, sign and date it, and fax it over. I did that about 9am today, along with a copy of my NOA2 page. She did not ask for it, but I sent it anyway. I hope they do more than just call the same number that I call and then accept the same standard answer. Someone MUST know something more! mad.gif I have not yet hit the upper limit of the "2-4 weeks" that the NVC keep telling me that it takes, but I have completed week 3.
I just want to get on to the next step an get out of NVC Hell now! wacko.gif

I'm going to the interview smile.gif It was about a $2100 ####### shoot just in airfare alone, but she's never flown before. It's about 24 hours of solid travel and I don't want her to do it alone. Plus I enjoy getting away from work. I'm not sure if I'll have a job when I return, but I've been waiting for all this to get over so I can start looking again anyway.

That is how I feel, too. Mine is not 24 hours of travel--unless I do a terrible job of planning, but it can easily be 18 to 20. I do not want them to go through that alone. biggrin.gif

How's everyone doing? Excited? Anxious? Nervous? Plane tickets purchased yet? We were almost at the bottom of page two, so I figured I'd give us a little bump and see how everyone was! smile.gif

On a side note...is anyone else just going out for the interview and planning to bring their fiance/e back with them? That's what we're doing...we've purchased all of the plane tickets, Dennis put in his notice at work, his house is sold, his stuff is partially packed up (he's going to be living with his sister for the last couple of weeks before the interview)...it makes me just a little bit nervous because I would hate for something to happen to delay everything now! I can't imagine what would...we have tons of evidence of our relationship, I make more than enough money to qualify as the sponsor, etc...I'm just nervous...but I think I'll BE nervous until we have safely activated the visa, crossed the border, and are on our way home (we'll be driving from Winnipeg). unsure.gif

yes, I am planning on going out for the interview and bringing them back with me! good.gif

Thank you! You'll be there before you know it! I really don't understand why the NVC is holding your file. Maybe your Congressman's office could inquire?

I called DOS and NVC today and guess what - my file is in "administerative processing" and there is "no time limit specified" for this. Both people were unfriendly and basically told me to go away and wait. I got my NOA2 on 18 July, so this is starting to suck.

However congratulations to all those with good news since I was last here biggrin.gif And good wishes to all those waiting...

That is all I am ever told, too! Even though I have received 3 letters from the NVC with different dates all telling me 'within one week', it has already been 9 days since the last letter! When I called the DOS they could tell me nothing more than what the NVC said--they just look at the same computer screen. wacko.gif

We are probably sitting on the same desk somewhere cwaf. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Well, if we are on the same desk, my documents are in good company! biggrin.gif

An update on our case. After the 5 month wait for the NOA2 and the delay with the case getting to the NVC, things are finally happening. We've managed to get Tania an interview date of September 3! I just got the good news this morning. Now, we can start making travel plans for her to Moscow for the interview!

Happy Monday to all. star_smile.gif
I am still stuck in NVC Hell---'administrative processing'--- as of 8am EST today. They have to finish sometime soon because they have had my documents 10 working days already! It arrived at the NVC on July 25th, and here it is August 11 and it is still 'there'. I thought waiting those 5 months at CSC was bad, but this is getting quite aggravating since this was supposed to be the quickest phase of it all! I know, I know, I know...it is all relative. wacko.gif Compared to those 5 months, even 18 days is a short time to wait (so far), but it is like putting the carrot on a stick and dangling it in front of the horse! blink.gif

My Sveta has the checklist to sign, too, but as far as I can tell, it is only submitted when the entire package is handed to the Embassy at the interview. I think she could actually wait and sign the checklist that very morning, if she wanted, just as long as she has everything on the list. In Ukraine, nothing is sent to the Embassy by us ahead of time. The packet is brought in at the interview. It would be nice if we could send stuff in so they could get started faster on the processing, but they do not work that way. ;-)
I REALLY HOPE you can get all you need before getting with your fiance, and get everything completed and mailed in as soon as possible! :-)

I think it's so funny that every embassy has different rules. They're all doing the same thing and this is the US government...you'd think that every embassy would have the same set of rules. Dennis had to sign the checklist, fill out some forms, and fax them all back before they would schedule his interview. The Montreal embassy requires that everything be signed, filled out, and the originals mailed to them. More embassies should accept faxes! smile.gif

Thanks for the congrats everyone! I am SO excited to know it will be over soon! Well...over-ish...then we can work on AOS/EAD/AP and once they grant that we can work on the stuff afterwards...and eventually there's citizenship to think about if he wants to do that. wink.gif Someone on a wedding forum once accused me of thinking that marrying someone from another country was "a fun adventure" and not really thinking about what I was getting myself into by marrying someone I hadn't spent much "real" time with. rolleyes.gif I think that the people who can get through this process without calling it off, hating each other by the end, or just going completely crazy are few and far between. It requires a very strong relationship and I'm glad that we're all almost at the end and can finally enjoy the rewards of having those fantastic relationships. smile.gif

Spot on there; me and 'er indoors have been carrying on like this for 7 years now!

Seven years? wow.gif I wasn't sure how I was going to get through the almost two that we've been apart...I only knew that I had to. Before Dennis I didn't think I would be able to handle a long distance relationship...but once love smacks you in the face, what choice do you have?

Edit: Well...almost two since we've been romantically involved...we've known each other for almost three total.

yeah..this is directly from the form KEV1 checklist:
First: Read the instructions.
Second: Check the box for each document only after you have obtained it.
Third: Contact the Call Center to schedule your visa appointment (see next page for instructions).
Fourth: Read the statement at the bottom of this page, sign it and bring with you for your interview.

standardization would be nice, but I guess in Ukraine many would not have access to fax machines and the mail is very slow and not entirely reliable. ;-) Perhaps they are actually thinking about the people! nawww...probably not! jest.gif

Well. She never said they had sent it wink.gif ... Just that they had received it... But Dave just got a letter dated 4 Aug saying that they had it and it would be sent within the next week. Standard letter I think.

So I am at a loss to know when it really arrived, or left, or indeed where it is now. I may call the Embassy just in case it is already there.

I am gutted that the packet 3 will probably arrive just a couple of days into my holiday with Dave sad.gif That will probably delay the interview by 2 weeks. But I can't think of a way round it.

Have you checked out your regional board to find out what packet 3 will ask for? From hanging out on the Canada board I knew exactly what Dennis would need (I even had a recent copy of Vancouver's packet 3) and he had it all done before he even received packet 3 in the mail. Maybe you could get it done ahead of time and have friends or family check your mail, then send it back. smile.gif

I know the Kiev Embassy website had the packet available for download, including a checklist. I downloaded and worked with that packet, and have been prepared for a couple of months already. It is definitely worth checking your Embassy's website to see if it is available. Some forms are easier to complete when sitting together! One of them is a webform now, while the other is a downloadable form. (DS156) unsure.gif

OMG I REALLY hope I can get hold of an electronic one. I have all the forms done, but just thought that I could not sign the checklist without receiving the physical pack?

I just found out from a UK thread that someone did an online packet 3. But I have yet to find it!

This would be the perfect solution for me, as I would just mail the whole lot from the USA as soon as the packet 3 is mailed to me.

Love you guys, thanks heart.gif

HMMM...I don't know! :-) I decided NOT to call them last night or today and just give them a couple of days without me bothering them. The odd thing is I received a 3rd letter from the NVC yesterday, this time dated August 4th, and saying the same thing the first two letters stated. Each one said it would be shipped within one week to the Kiev Embassy....that was July 30th, July 31st, and now August 4th. It has to do with K-1s being the special NVC exception. Other visa types have additional fees, paperwork, and approvals at the NVC level. We're special as K-1s and don't have to do any of that stuff. I think it's because K-1s are non-immigrant visas.

Well thank the lord for that! kicking.gif

Now then, YAAAAAAAAAAAARavis (did you see what I did there? Your pic, huh? HUH!!? cool.gif ) could I trouble you for one other piece of info? When I call the NVC, I give them my USCIS case number, right? You know, the one that starts with WAC? Or is there a new case number on the NOA2, in which case I'll have to call the SO?

laughing.gif I see what you did there and I have to tell you...I like it. Yes, give them your USCIS case number. The NVC assigns a new case number, which they will give you if they've already received your case. The embassy/consulate will use your NEW case number from the NVC as reference. smile.gif

Speaking of embassy/consulates...another guy from Vancouver sent his packet 3 back the same day Dennis did, emailed the consulate and got an answer back that his interview is Sept. 10. I emailed the consulate earlier today (I forged Dennis' virtual signature with his permission devil.gif ) so hopefully I'll hear back with an interview date! smile.gif

Well, I called the NVC again today and this time I talked to a man, who was very nice. He explained the process at the NVC. The packet is received and entered into the system. Then it is sent to have security checks run on it, and once that is complete, they send back to NVC (probably electronically) and then the packet is sent out to the Embassy. I asked him about the security check because I thought that was done at the CSC level. He said that may be the case, but it happens at their level, too, if so. I told him I received my letters that stated it would be shipped within one week, and today is that one week. He asked "they told you that?" and then "they should not be saying that stuff". HAHAHA I got the impression this was not the 'normal' person who answers the phones, but more of a higher-up kind of guy. He was very nice, though, and I thanked him for the information. So now I am a bit dismayed about this new wrinkle in the process, but know the security approval should happen soon. wacko.gif

I hate to second guess your phone answerer...but it sounds like a new guy who didn't really know the K-1 process unsure.gif That sounds like what the NVC does with every type of visa EXCEPT K-1s. We're the exception, that's why we can't get information through the automated system, we never get put into their computer system that way because all they do is receive it and ship it out. A lot of people have been told their petition was received and sent the same day, because the NVC doesn't do anything with it. Your petition probably fell between a crack, they found it, then had to tell you a line so they didn't have to say "We're inept." wink.gif It'll probably show up at your embassy in a day or two. good.gif

Edit with a second thought: I assume so, but have you guys tried to call the embassy or DOS? I don't have the instructions for calling DOS, but I know Don has done it so he can probably tell you how.

Well, I called the DOS and finally got through. All he could tell me is that my case has not left the United States. I asked him about the security check that I was told this morning and he said that they do peform security checks at the NVC level, as well, and that additionally, Kiev will perform another once they get the packet! I told him I thought that was a lot of duplication of work, but he really did not seem interested. He also said that "administrative processing" and "security checks" can be, and probably is, one and the same. He then said I just had to go by what the NVC tells me and that each case is 'different'. wacko.gif mad.gif

Maybe you are correct. I was surprised to hear about another possible security check. Yesterday their computer said mine is in administrative processing, so I am not certain if there was a different note on the screen today or not. We have not called the Embassy yet because it costs 12.00 for each 8 minutes. We have our PIN number to make that call, but was holding off until we knew that is should be there. So now I am a bit dismayed about this new wrinkle in the process, but know the security approval should happen soon. wacko.gif

cwaf, you're gonna give yourself an ulcer, fella! laughing.gif Just let it be - you've done the hard bit!

HAHAHA thanks for the concern! :-) My only concern is that even a one day delay in calling the Embassy to schedule the interview could result in another week or two before it can be scheduled. With the Embassy already saying they are scheduling 2 months out, I need to cut as many days off of that as I can since we already have plans made with reservations and tickets in the fall, and I need them to be here well before then so they can get acclimated to the new surroundings somewhat before they are overwhelmed with more new experiences. Not to mention, scheduling two vacation times almost right on top of each other is going to be difficult for me. If I can track the shipment to Kiev, then she can call sooner and not have to wait for snail mail to notify us a week or two after it arrives there. Even the first letter from the NVC to me did not arrive until about a week after they had received our case, so I know the timing of a snail-mail notification of shipping will not coincide with the arrival time in Kiev. blink.gif I am just trying to trim as much time off the next step as possible, but I know I am frustrating myself, too. Fortunately, I am not letting it get to me just yet! innocent.gif

After a 5 month wait for NOA2, this will be a doddle

yes.gif i totally thought that when my NOA2 came through but then again no0pb.gif it took about a week for me to start worrying about where my petition is now. But I think I'm going to stick to this no-chasing policy for a while just for my own sanity... Oh my jangling nerves! wacko.gif

I know..I know...I am making it harder on myself! wacko.gif

huh.gif I called the NVC a few minutes ago and as of then, our case was 'still in administrative processing'. So much for a quick turn-around of 2 or 3 days. They received mine on the 25th, and I have had two letters from them (like many others have received) that both say the same thing, but have a different date. My letters were dated the 30th and 31st, respectively. Patience is a virtue, but I am not feeling very virtuous these days! blush.gif whistling.gif
