Middle East and North AfricaAny Fees at JFK for Temporary Work Permit?
I told them this just wasn't right and she got REALLY NASTY with me and said "YOU are responsible for him, YOU said you'd support him!!!" blah blah blah.

Sorry, I can't advise on any of your concerns. I just wanted to comment that I would have told her that him wanting to work has nothing to do with you being unable to support him. It's about a man not wanting to sit at home for months when he could be productive and working.

It just annoys me when someone THINKS they know another person's motives.

Middle East and North AfricaHow Muslims are treated in the USA
QUOTE (A&A @ Jun 30 2008, 07:28 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I'm still in shock over this one... My husband came here with a fiance visa on May 8th of this year. On May 23rd we got married at the courthouse. It was a quick but nice ceremony and we thought everything would be routine (as far as the immigration process) after that. The judge ended up writing the wrong date on the marriage certificate. He submitted it wrong and it was sent back to him. Now you would think a judge would know how to correct a legal document, but he just scratched out the error and wrote in the correct date. It was sent back to him a second time... 5 weeks later we still don't have the marriage certificate. The judge's secretary got very rude with me and told me that he made the corrections and i must deal with the county service center now. So today we went down to the service center and find out that the judge refused to sign the affidavit to legally correct the marriage certificate!!! The lady at the service desk explained that he would not give a reason as to why he would not correct his mistake...just simply refused to do it! So here we have a marriage certificate that is not legal and the judge will not fix his simple mistake. I called his secretary to try and get some clarification as to why he did this, but she was very rude with me and said it was his descision not to correct it. WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD ANYONE DO THIS??? He was very aware that we needed this for immigration. And to make matters worse, he kept the marriage certificate almost a month before deciding not to correct it! The lady at the service center said she has never heard of a judge doing this to anyone before. Now we have a month to get a lawyer and contact immigration to figure out how we can make this legal. AH, it makes me so angry that someone can do this... I can't help but think this a case of prejudice. I wish i wish i wish we would have gotten married at the mosque. I can't believe this judge can knowingly make our lives hell without any explanation.

I would seriously consider contacting the local newspaper and get your story along with his name printed in the old black and white.

I am shocked and appalled that this judge would behave so unprofessionally.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHow can you track the package from NVC To the Foreign Embassy??
QUOTE (divi @ Sep 10 2008, 06:47 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi ,

I have tried but it didnt work .
I am still figuring out, how..

If you know the date the package was sent, then put in the tracking number of "EXP 04 JUN 2008A " but change the day and month to reflect the correct date. If you know the package was sent September 5, then enter "EXP 04 SEP 2008A". I would show the pick up date range as just a few days for example: 09/04/2008 - 09/09/08. I did not count the weekend.

Using this method will not find YOUR particular package, but it will show packages that have left the NVC and shipped to your country. For those countries that the NVC ships many packages to, you will find it more difficult to know if you're package was mailed. My fiance is in Brazil so when I tracked our package, there was only one package sent to Brazil in a 3 day period so I assumed it was our package.

Good luck.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI-864 For Self Employed
yes, from what i have learned for us self employed they want 3 years returns, i ordered 3 years of IRS transcripts, you can do it over the phone and they arrive in a week or so.

note that my 3rd return from 2007 i was just a bit under the line! i submited my ROth IRA account to make up the 1500 shortfall that year.

yea i could have took lots of miles on my van , but as i am doing my taxes i always watch that line 37 , ajust it as you need to get what is required.

As 3 years returns is advised , the most recent is the most important, i think next feb ??? ask someone for the date, USCIS will require tax returns for 2010, then do them and submit with 09 and 08.

also write your self a self employed letter, with your letterhead or make one. stating what you do ,clients, salary ect..

yea i would wait , rather than amend

I am self employed too, satelite contractor. i too use turbotax to do my taxes each year, so i understand what your going through.

You will use your AGI ajusted gross income. it should be listed on the summary sheet on turbo tax (the first page that prints)

as for the credits i know how easy it is to keep digging and diggin till you owe nothing! but this does not help your situation. i planned 2 years in advance prior to my fiancee coming to usa,. i basically made my AGI what i needed it to be and what the goverment required it to be. sure i paid a few dollars in.

I dont know if maybe you can ammend your taxes, or maybe you should postpone till feb of next year. then plan accordingly!

Hi... my husband who is from libya also had to go to tunis for his K1 interview. Its at the american embassy what they wanted from him was some emails we wrote each other things like that. They arent as strict as some consulates are. this was in 2005 but everything went fine and he got his visa the same day as his interview.

when/where is your interview? we just had ours at the Jerusalem consulate, and i traveled to israel that week to attend the interview with my fiancee. BEWARE - i was NOT allowed into the building!!! it's utterly rediculous, but i had to sit outside of the building and wait for 2 hours. we read about couple who previously attended their interview together, so i was fully expecting to participate - it's very frustrating. also, make sure you bring your latest tax return information. our paperwork did not explicitly say that it was required, but they won't continue without it.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Middle East and North Africasad times

, I used to post here many years ago as we went through the torture of getting a visa through cairo. I am posting under an anonymous name as it would cause additional strife if I were voicing these problems in a forum. My husband is here now with me - we have built a nice life together - both have cars, bought a house, he got a decent job. But since day one it has been a struggle of views and culture. I am expected to do everything although he is not critical if things don't get done. His only responsibility he has excepted is to take out the garbage once a week and work 40 plus hours. I too work full time and take on additional work.

The main problem is communication if anything is discussed about politics or religion all hell breaks loose. We end up in huge fights/arguments. Its stupid @# %$^^$% #### o but I am to the point i don't want to talk about anything for fear it will start a battle. I feel he has depression since he came and have spoken to him about this. If he is not at work he is in bed on the computer - he has a hard time making friends and is critical of everyone as being not up to his moral standards. Its so hard to express this in a post as it comes off sounding so simplistic and there are two sides to every story.

I also am tired of carring all the weight of the household form cookin, laundry car care and the house repairs! I have to do everything he is unwilling and by this many years I dont see it changing.

The latest overcast on our relationship is he's a "faliure" compared to his friends in egypt and he ruined his life by marrying me - but it doesn't matter now cause its to late to go home as its to late to rebuild his career to where he left. Im sad I can't take it anymore there have been great times and horrible times but to me it feels like the final straw that I am the default result. I don't know what I am wanting by posting this perhaps others have had similar situations in there mena relationships and found away to improve the situation or how do you know when to part ways :(

I feel for you. Not sure anyone can tell you when the perfect time to "part ways" is, this is something that must come from your heart. I don't have any great words of advice other than I am sorry you are going through this. I would be happy to let you vent to me, as a stranger, would help me pass the USCIS process time.

Because of the small sample used i this study, and how the sample was collected, I would question the validity of this research. It is very easy to shape the results of a study. Companies do that to support their products regularly. The study may provide some interesting things to think about and consider, however, that does not mean that the study is valid or the results are reliable.....Just a thought

As far as your Jordanian ID being proof of your marriage -- well, every little piece of evidence helps. But even more important are photos of you together and with his family, copies of your phone logs and chat conversations, cards & letters, etc. -- to show the ongoing relationship.

Hello everyone! I am new to this website! I noticed on the USCIS webpage that they don't accurately update the current processing dates. sad.gif I am getting frustrated!

I married my wonderful husband Jaser in Irbid Jordan on July 2, 2006. I moved to Jordan early October 2006 and stayed until May 2007. It was a wonderful experience to live in his country and understand his culture. It made us so much closer. I moved back to the states in May to start the VISA process. It's been 7 months since I hugged my husband crying.gif I miss him so much. Thank God we chat daily and it helps that I sent him a laptop. The time difference makes communication difficult!!

I filed my I130 on June 2nd and then my I129F on July 28th. (both received dates) My question is: IS THERE ANY WAY TO KNOW HOW CLOSE I AM TO GETTING THE APPROVAL? I attached my Jordanian ID with my passport as proof of the relationship. You can only get the ID if you stay in Jordan over 3 months. Will this help proving my marriage is legitimate?

I know from the USCIS website that they have received twice as many applications from June-August of this year and it is slowing the process.

Any help getting the info will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Rhonda heart.gif Jaser

I did relocate to Jordan in 2006. I stayed there for about 9 months and I wouldn't change it. I am glad to be home but the experience was beyond words. I got to know my husband's family and I truly know his heart and soul much better. It made me love him more to see how he interacts with people in his country and it also helped me understand his culture. I respect it so much more now. It was definately an eye opener to see what we ALL take for granted here in the US. I am not going to lie...Life was very difficult in Jordan. We struggled and that wasn't something I was accustomed to. I have always worked and not working was a hard adjustment for me. I had a few bad days and wished I were home...the language barrier was the worst for me. I would not recommend moving to a country that you cannot fluently speak the language! I survived and we are so much closer. I think the experience bonded us more than either of us could have ever imagined. I can't wait to share my culture and country with him! May 5th is the interview day! Life is good! biggrin.gif

Middle East and North AfricaEgyptian K-1 Visa
Here is another question...

My fiance may or may not be getting a scholarship to travel to the states for 3 months this year. He will be interning at a school in my state. Is it possible to get married while he is here?? Would he have to travel back to egypt while we work on the visa? or can he stay in the states and we can work on the papers?
eachubbFemaleEgypt2012-03-20 23:38:00
Middle East and North AfricaEgyptian K-1 Visa

I have more information to add.

If he is in school getting a military degree there are two paths. The working officer and the reserve officer.

The working officer is their man after the completion of the degree and they won't allow him to travel during his school. They can get two types of degrees. One is the basic four year military degree where they study war, ect. The other is a five year military degree. It consists of the basic four year military degree while taking additional classes for an engineering degree. They are career military.

The reserve officer is also known as a "service officer". They are called to duty like a soldier and given a rank while they serve for three years. They have the 90 day boot camp and they attend "the college for the service officers" for 180 days. After their service they are released but called whenever they are needed.

I was told that to marry they have to get permission from the military and this is for an Egyptian wife even.

I am really curious about your fiances situation and what you know from him exactly.

Hi, thanks for the replies i really appreciate it everyone :) and im sorry there is a confusion.. no he is not in the army at all. Hi just curious...if my fiance is in the army in Egypt can I still work on our visa? I dont want to risk doing the visa without him doing his army duty.. seems to sketchy to me. he is in school right now..but, has anyone done this before? Was your fiance able to ask for days off to go to the Embassy for interviews or medical checks? Usually the army duty is about 2 years. I dont want to wait 2 years then start the visa. So please anyone let me know if you have gone through this.

Middle East and North AfricaEgyptian wedding.. next steps?

Hi eachubb welcome to VJ - MENA. About getting married formally in Egypt and recognized by the United States I suggest reading the US Embassy in Cairo's website on marriage in Egypt. Here is the link. It has all the Steps you'll need to know. We completed them in about two days. It's like doing it at the justice of the peace in the States. It's not very glamourous. You can still hold the Islamic wedding ceremony but you'll need a certificate of religion from your Christian church back home if it is truely to be an Islamic wedding. I recommend doing the white wedding religious ceremony with friends and family there and taking tons of pictures. You'll cherish that memory for a long time. There are some Imam's like at El Nour Mosque that will provide a wedding without a religious certificate if they know the family you're marrying into. This is what we did in our case since I don't really attend a Christian church anymore. I guess you'll have to check with your fiance on that one since they'll be make the arraingments with the religious person officiating the ceremony.

After the wedding you can file for the CR-1/IR-1 family based spouse visa. It will take at least a year for processing so get ready for a wait unless you plan on staying with him in his country.

It is more complicated to answer your question about the mandatory military duty in Egypt. He won't be exempt for marrying a foreign spouse but there are other considerations he may be exempt for.

Is he an only child or only son?
Is he the sole provider for his family?
Does he have any medical conditions. There are only a few that exempt them.
What is his current age?
What month was he born?
What is his education level?
Is he in college?
If so what is he studying in college?
Do you have any red flags in your reltionship?

If you can answer all these questions I can determine if he will have to serve, when he will have to report to serve, and for how long.

Red Flags that may be scrutinized by the CO. (You don't have to answer these. They're just an FYI)

Is he pushing to marry you in order to avoid military service because he believes there is an exemption for marrying a foreign spouse?
What is your age difference?
What is your religions? (You've already told us the answer to this one.)
Do you share a common language?
How many times have you met in person?
For how long was the visit?
How long have you known each other before marriage?
Are you of child bearing age?
Do you have children from a previous marriage?
Have you met his friends and family?
What do they think of your relationship?
Have either of you been married before?
How many times?
Are your prior marriages finalized?
Has he been petitioned before by another USC?
Have you petitioned for an immigrant before?
What is your education level compared to his?
What do you two have in common?

I'm sure others can think of more red flags and some will dismiss some of the red flags mentioned because it didn't apply to their case in their situation.

YMMV.

hi thanks so much for your reply :) yes.. i dont really attend church that often and i have never really heard or seen a certificate to prove being Christian so i will ask my fiancé to find out if there are any mosques around that could accommodate for that. as far as your questions for military he is not the only son he is the youngest son. he is not a sole provider..no medical conditions..he is currently 20 and born in April he is attending a 2 year college.

Been there done that! If you will start a Spouse Visa you must be married first, and yes you must marry in Egypt, this site

http://egypt.usembas...ular/acs12.html

will give you all the guidelines for a marriage in Egypt. As far as the Military YES your fiance Military status will have to be cleared before he travels (you must send Military Records with the visa applicant) and also before traveling to USA, your than husband should have a certificate stateing that he is in good stand to leave the country (My husband got exempted however he picked up this certificate from The Mansura base)

What I also sudgest is that you start looking at the requirenments for the Spouse Visa and start putting all your documents together this will save you some time.

what documents can i start to work on ahead of time? thnks for your reply
eachubbFemaleEgypt2012-08-28 23:43:00
Middle East and North AfricaEgyptian wedding.. next steps?

Your timeline says you applied for a K-1. What happened with that? You can't be married to apply and you must marry in the US. You can't begin any spouse visa until you have a marriage certificate. He may be required to complete his Army duty; he needs to check. Know that the visa process may take from 10-14 months- longer if he goes through lengthy AP.
Also- and I know this is unrequested advice- study the guidelines and the red flags extensively. Remember, Egypt is a high fraud country, so they scrutinize virtually everyone.

Good luck and congrats!

I am confused about what I need for the police certificate from Egypt? What did you all have to do when you obtained them? Do you have to get stamps from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs? How about translations? Can I get translations from the US at a notary or does it have to be from Egypt?

you must go to the police station there in egypt to get a police report on yourself. it's called a crimmial record . also, you must get it translated as well . if you are in the military , you must get them as well and have them translated as well. i'm not sure about the ministry of foreign affairs or a notary or why you need to get them from there . zawgyosama

I am hurting very badly right now. My husband left yesterday after 10 months. I am 8 weeks pregnant. I found out he was cheating on me and he immediately said he wanted a divorce and to get rid of the baby. I am writing my story in MS Word right now and I will post the entire story as soon as I can stomach to get it all out. Right now I'm feeling used and betrayed and deeply hurt. I gave everything to him and spent time, money and emotions getting him here. Things were just going to turn around for us and I found out I was pregnant. We have been trying for 7 months. He wanted a baby more than anything. When he found out, he cried and called all of his family and friends and they were all happy and crying about it too. Then he started cheating on me 2 1/2 weeks ago. His family is furious with him (I called and told them).

I am canceling the AOS tomorrow. Our relationship was all a lie.

I posted under a new ID because I am so embarassed. Things were going ok until all of this.

Just needing to get some empathy because I'm feeling pretty worthless right now.

My bride came from Canada to the US at the end of March. We were married on March 30th on the beach! She filled out the papers to get her Social Security card for herself and her daughters. She was told by the SS office that now that she is married she can not get the card here in Indiana. She will have to contact the INS to get a card and that her 9 year old daughter can not get a card until she is old enough to work! Has anyone had any experience with this? I can not put them on my insurance at work until they have Social Security numbers. I am at a loss as to what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Could the governments make this any harder??

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsI think she is good to go

I guess we are ready for Monday. I asked her 150 questions about me, us and my family and she got them all right.

You wouldn't have those questions in a word document? Guess it is time to take a look at the review section of our embassy and start building a list of questions and answers for her.
