Hey everyone! Just a quick update: Ramazan's interview last Wednesday went extremely well (except for one brief tax-return scare). He should be getting his passport/visa any day now.....he is packed and ready, so within a few days, he will be coming (assuming the plane tickets we have our eyes on don't disappear).

Hope everyone is doing well!

Hey everyone! I haven't been on here in awhile, so I was just reading through the posts. 3 weeks from today is Ramazan's interview. This last stretch is horrible!! I think I am unsettled because I have no control over how the interview will go. Pray for us, please!

I hope everyone is doing well!

Hi everyone! Just a quick update. My husband received his interview date: June 10. I emailed the embassy requesting it be moved up, as I could see other available dates on the site's schedule. They have clearly questioned my intelligence by giving me multiple BS explanations as to why they won't change our date. Very frustrating. These next 78 days (no, I'm not counting.. tongue.gif) will probably be the worst of our waiting. Ughhh

Hey, thanks for the help! I've made sure to make copies of everything I sent over. One more question: The instructions say "It is useful to bring letters, photographs, and other evidence of your relationship with you." Do they want him to bring these items to the interview? Or are they wanting these submitted with the documents that we are sending in? smile.gif

Hey everyone! I have a couple questions if you don't mind:

We received our 'packet' of instructions via email from Ankara yesterday.

1. Do all the documents have to be in English? Or are Turkish ones (i.e. police record, birth certificate, marriage document) acceptable? In one section, it says documents not in English or Turkish need to be translated; then in another section, it says all documents to be translated to English.

2. It says to send the original and copies of the marriage certificate. Do we really need to send our marriage book? Or do they accept certified copies and my husband can take the book to the interview?

Any insight is appreciated!

Asia: East and Pacificwhite slip?
first off, my fiancee went to the interview with every document and piece of evidence under the sun (and in a very very well organized itemized folder) yet the interviewer hardly even looked up from her desk at my fiancee, never asked for any evidence and only asked my fiancee 3 questions, then sent my fiancee back out to the waiting room for 5 hours.. finally calling her name and given her a blue slip stating that there wasn't enought proof of the relationship.
my fiancee scans the blue slip and emails it to me. it said visa denied becuase of lack of evidence and that i also need to submit proof of my ex-wife's current address. ..Ha! and what do you think my ex-wife said when i asked for some proof of her current address so i could marry my fiancee? (copy of drivers license, utility bill, ect..) ..needless to say, i then had to hire a lawyer to pull the public records on my ex-wife and then have (the lawyer) write a letter of explaination to the consulate officer.
so a month later my fiancee submits everything in person. and i mean everything.. the thing had to weigh 10 pounds. then waits 5 more hours in the lobby. alas, she gets a white slip stating that no further documents are required and that our case requires additional processing in their office. this was 5 months ago. i've emailed twice and i've called twice.. always the same answer, "your case is under review".
Please.. any and all comments and advice is welcomed. ..pink slips, green slips, blue slips... why did we get a white slip (221g)? helpsmilie.gif

Asia: East and Pacific? About going to HCMC with Wife
the requierment to provide proof of marriage (in vietnam), i believe, is a long forgotten one and now only a myth. you and whom ever you choose can stay in any hotel that you desire without proof of marriage. only need provide your passports and/or her Vietnam I.D. card. you should also remember that, in any situation that may attract attention by the police, a small bribe will quickly defuse the problem (50,000 DVN or about 3 dollars).

I see many posts that say it is a plus for the sponsor to be there for the interview, especially for Vietnam, the marriage fraud capital of the world (whatever), but how are you supposed to do that? I would more or less have to quit my job (willing to do that, done it before to go to Vietnam), but I don't see anywhere how much notice you get before the interview.

How does that work practically? Should I just get a 6 month visa when it's getting a little closer, and hope I can get a decent air fare? I make a decent living, but I'm sure not made of money, and I do have a son I need to worry about. Thanks for listening.

here's what you can do. at her first interview she'll more than likely get one of those 221g letters with instructions. comply with the letter as soon as possible and have your fiancee submit whatever is needed. after that, when you can arrange to travel to the Consulate, bring with you a photocopy of that 221g letter. the Consulate only allows american citizens into the building between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. with the soul purpose of speaking with the American Citizens Unit (and they can't help you in regards to your petition). the Immigration Unit operates between the hours of 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. ..they only allow entry to individuals with a 221g letter. but you won't have the original letter because your fiancee will have already gave that to them. so be sure to make a perfect photocopy of it beforehand.
now with that letter in hand, at 1 p.m. show it to the guard and demand entry. he will direct you to a long line. when you get inside go to the Immigration Unit. request to speak with the Chief Immigration Officer. (be very very prepared with an abundent amount of evidence and documents). His name is Greg Adamson or Addenson (just spit out his last name fast enuogh and nobody will know the difference). he will review your petition. he also seems like a reasonable man. good luck.

never had any touches. as of 11-19, 26 of the last 30 approvals have been after my date of 6-15-07 and 13 of 30 have been for month of July!! Do we have a new calander I don't know about. I tried calling, just a recording.

ANY SUGGESTIONS? unsure.gif

there's nothing you can do to expediate the interview date. you have no choice but to wait until they set an appointment date. but they are required by law to do this in a certain amount of time. so i wouldn't worry too much about that. if you want to ensure that she will receive the visa, i suggest that you are go with her to the interview.

Asia: East and Pacificwith a little patience and persistence
i met my fiancee on-line in January of 2006. we have been engaged since June of 2006 (my first visit to Vietnam). i began the petition in August of 2006. Consulate in Ho Chi Minh received petition in September 2006. i visited her again in October of 2006. she had her interveiw in April of 2007.
at her interview she recieved a blue slip stating more evidence of relationship was needed. everything needed was submitted one month later. she then received a green slip stating that their office needed more time to process our case. i fruitlessly waited 6 months with no progress. i finally went to the Consulate and requested to speak with the Chief Immigration Officer. his name is Greg Adamson or Addenson. actually, he seems like a nice guy. anyway, he told me that they were very sceptical of my petition (appearently they felt it was a shame). i asked him what i could do to help solve the problem. with a little persistence, he granted the visa (pink slip). my fiancee picked it up a week later.

Asia: East and PacificGoing to VN in December
yes, i have loads of advice for you.. the Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh is very very particular about the method of the marriage proposal and also the traditional vietnamese engagement celebration. if during this trip in December you intend to ask her to marry you, then there are several things that i strongly advise. first, keep the sales receipt of the engagement ring. remember that exact time and location of the proposal (name of restaurant. ect). and have a huge engagement celebration including atleast 20 or 30 photos of the celebration. honestly speaking, it would be wise to hire a professional photographer for this occasion. services in Vietnam are very inexpensive, so it would only cost you a small price. Also, make sure to keep evidence for all airline tickets (including your credit card statements). obtain receipts for the hotels that you stay in.
while you are in Vietnam, it is a good time to gather important infomation that you will need when applying for the visa. such as copies of her birth certificate, a few standard size passport photos of her, when and where her parents were born. her prior work experience and current occupation (although i doubt it matters whether she is currently employed or not).
keep in touch, i would be happy to answer more of your question. ..and best of luck ~

from my experience i can tell you that they really don't care how much life insurence and assets you own. it all comes down to your annual income. does your annual income exced 125% of proverty guidelines? if so, then all other information is probably unessary. but to answer your questions; they want to know how much insurance you have on yourself. the cash value of your insurance. and all other debts and assets. however, i'm quite certain that they only look at previous year tax-return and letter from current employer. all other information should be submitted by your discretion.

Africa: Sub-SaharanI NEED SOME ADVICE
I am so confused..please if anyone has advice..I sure would appreciate it. I have filed for a K-3 visa on behalf of my husband, in which I filed papers for the I-130 and the I-129F. We are both excited as both of the cases are now currently at the NVC. This is where the confusion lies....both cases are being processed seperately. Is this the normal procedure of processing for the K-3 visa? I have talked with customer service rep at the NVC and they have informed that I must choose one or the other when they are sent to Lagos. I have heard many horror stories of the Lagos consulate and I really need to have info on this.
can anyout out there offer me any advise or helpful comments??? THANKS !

Africa: Sub-SaharanVISA APPROVED
:D :D :D :D :D :D Okay...here is the long awaited for news of Sam's interview ....but first..YES..he was approved YIPEE! As usual...he was instructed to be at the consulate at 7 am to wait in line for entry in to the building...where upon entry he was first asked to pay his visa fee..then he had his fingerprints and oath..after that it was a very long wait. Finally at 2:30 he was taken to a room where the interviewer was waiting for him...it was all an done with in about 3 minutes time LOL The interviewer only asked Sam questions that had "YES" responses to..such as his wifes name, my work place, my area interests such as hobbies etc. Sam said that the man who interviewed him was very pleasant and jovial..it was fast and easy once he was actually having the interview. But..LOL...when the interviewer saw the amount of proof that we had...over 35 pounds of proof...the interviewer was satisfied. The interviewer did not read the chats, emails, or other things like cards or other correspondance...his main concern was with phone records, statement from employer and statement from bank. I was in Nigeria during the time of Sam's interview and I had also provided a leave of abscence request form from my employer which they had approved. The interviewer was most interested in this ....as it was important to him that I was in Nigeria at the time of my husbands interview date, as to him is was undeniable proof that we were truly commited to each other and our relationship as husband and wife. At this point the interviewer conrgatualted Sam and asked him to return to the consulate in 3 days to pick up his visa

Hi everyone, sorry it has been a while since I have been able to be here. We have been so very busy with the pre/post holiday rush! As you know my husband arrived from Lagos to USA in October, we finally filed for his adjustment of status and for his work card in December, thinking it would be the first of the year before any action would be taken...but.. Sam had his biometrics done on Jan. 3rd everything with that went very smoothly, we were in and out of the office very quickly, the staff was so organized, caring and very concerned and had super wonderful attitudes! This was a totally different than Lagos and not what we expected at all LOL. When we got back home after the biometrics there was an appointment letter in our mailbox for our interview with USCIS on Feb 6th...things are moving very quickly, which has surprised us both ! It is so wonderful to be able to say "OURS, knowing that my husband and I are in the same house ! So if anyone out there has any good advice about our upcoming interview..I am all ears. I just want to say that we have had many aggravations and pauses along the way and I am sure there will be more of that to head our way...but all in all..we have been very fortunate to have GOD on our side to aid in stumbling blocks that have come our way..we are so blessed and so thankful and once again Sam and I want to say a HUGE thanks to all who have helped us along the way so far !

Have a BLESSED DAY !

ChinaWhile we Wait

Guys, I have been talking to my Fiance for almost 11 months everyday on Skype. We talk twice a day for a total of about 3 hours a day.We sumitted our 129f in June 2010 and have been waiting for our NOA2 letter.my question is, I am running out of things to talk about, We have talked so much. What do you guys do to keep up your spirits and talk about as the months roll by. I am a man, we cann't gossip the way women do. I have suggested that we only Skype once or twice a week, so things will happen in our lives and we will have something new to talk about. She got upset at that suggestion, saying I don't love her and don't want to see her everyday. But she expects me to come up with things to talk about and I don't know what to say anymore. It would be different if she was here, we could go places together, do things together, not just sit and stare at each other and talk, for 3 hours at a time. Does anyone else have this problem, or is she correct, I don't love her if I don't want to talk to her everyday for 3 hours at a shot. I would love to have her here and part of my life, but now she is just an image on my computer screen. She isn't interested in my daily life as an accountant/tax preparer. its pretty boring stuff. I've got to go, she is online now Bill

We talk about every single thing that happens in our day using yahoo instant messenger on our cellphones. we both have a love of movies and often watch the same ones together and of course pictures, pictures, pictures. I know when I visited her in May I felt like I was right at home because I was so familiar with her home from all the pics and vids I had seen. I do understand how you feel. It's harder for some to park in front of cam and chat. I have just been laying in bed watching tv chatting with her tonight talking about TV while she's at the office working. lol We won't know what to do when we are in the same time zone. I personally don't like the idea of someone saying, "you don't love me". It's kind of manipulative in my opinion. Good luck, I'm sure it will work out. NOA2 will be here soon

Asia: East and PacificIndonesia - Siri wedding and Islam conversion for K-1 Visa, help please
Hi Ryan, although I'm not a muslim but I live in Jakarta my whole life, so I'll give my best to help you out with your problems.
Here's what i know. Siri wedding is just religious muslim wedding, it is not official according to our government. No contract will be signed. Obtaining arabic name after converting to islam will not be official until you legally change your name to your arabic name. So i think it wont be a problem to have siri wedding during or before K1 visa process, as long as you dont make it legal. Dont mention about siri wedding during your fiance's interview at the embassy and dont provide any photo that would make them suggest you are legally married in indonesia. Just remember that siri wedding is not acknowledge by our government.

Good luck

Hi All ....

I guess that's any hope of a May interview out of the window then - I didn't realise that all next month's interviews had been allocated already. sad.gif

Is it too early to be worried? I keep seeing you lovely people getting interview dates before me ... and am beginning to wonder if there is a problem with the docs I sent in. I suppose everyone's circumstances are different and that all applications take different amounts of time ...

Oh well ... no chance of our mid-June wedding now .... sad.gif

I've been calling DOS every other day and they tell me Pat is qualified for an interview, but no date has been assigned yet. In my mind I keep thinking.. FFS if they know she's all set for an interview, why can't they just assign one?? Paper shuffling between desks?

I'll give it another few days then start digging into it.. maybe have Pat call the expensive line, get the email code and carry on from there I guess.

Bob

What do you ask them to get them to say she is qualified for an interview? When I asked them today if Sven is qualified for the interview or not, they just said that the embassy will send out a letter when they schedule the interview...

I'm gonna wait til next week and try calling again.

The first time I heard that, it was volunteered freely. "Yes I see she's been approved for an interview but no date has been set"

The 2nd 3rd, 4th times I asked. "So she is approved for an interview... correct? We're not waiting for anything else?" The answer is always something like "Yes she is approved and ready for a date to be set"

This last time I also asked about her medical to make sure that was all ok. As far as I can tell we're not waiting on anything other then an appointment date.

Good luck,
Bob (and Pat)

Ohh ok! Maybe I will call on Thursday then and try that, and ask about the medical as well. Thanks!

One thing I wondered is how the DOS lady would even know if London is done scheduling May interviews? Is this something they just say at the end of every month?

thats why i thought it was a really weird comment (on the part of the DOS operator, not you). from what i hear, the DOS people just have access to data files linked to our LND numbers and our names. they only report case status and relevant dates. they have nothing to do with the scheduling so i find it hard to believe that they would know that sort of information.

it seems like there is no real end date to scheduling within a month if KAT just got bumped up to the 29th of april. we will see at least 5 or 6 more may dates i bet.

The only reason I thought this had any weight is cuz I think I did read on here somewhere that the embassies schedule the interviews in groups, and I thought it definitely said that when they are done for the month, thats it, except for some exceptions. But I don't know if this was all the embassies, or a specific one. I have read so much i am not sure anymore haha.

I feel like a pest calling DOS a lot, but I am scared they are gonna send Packet 4 to my fiance and its gonna be like, for the next day or something, which he'd take but it could cause problems with his job and stuff. So I think I am gonna start calling like every 3 days? Is this ridiculous???

Whats the difference between them saying they reviewed the documents, and that you are eligible for an interview? Or is this the same? And I am sorry for posting the thing about what DOS told me about all the May interviews being given out...I didn't mean to cause this, I was just reporting what I was told. For what its worth, I did put a travel date.

laura, i dont know what the difference is? im wondering if there is one. to me, 'eligible for an interview' sounds more like 'yeah, we got your stuff. we have everything we need to assign an interview date' while 'we are processing your documents' sounds like 'we got some stuff from you. and we are still checking to make sure we have what we need.' this is speculation, and might be a question worth asking to the DOS operator when calling.

and i also think its fine to post what you have been told. Bob covers his bottom by saying 'your mileage may vary™'. the DOS operators are humans and make mistakes and give out misinformation sometimes. i was told by the DOS that my documents had been received at the embassy one day, and the next i was told that they had just been sent that day.

and just to give some perspective, here is what the interview list looked like a month ago (27 march):

Yea I definitely get what you are saying and hopefully you are right! I am also concerned that the fact that they said they reviewed our documents but said nothing about being eligible for an interview means my lovely fiance has made some mistakes haha. I have a really hard time letting go of control lol. Next time I call, if they tell me the same thing about reviewing documents, I will ask for clarification smile.gif

One thing I wondered is how the DOS lady would even know if London is done scheduling May interviews? Is this something they just say at the end of every month?

i dont see how one can think that 'all may interviews have been given out' just because someone posted something that someone at the DOS said to them. thats not definitive information in my opinion. this board is not the gospel.

personally, i think you will get a may interview, moira. i cant remember if you filled in a travel date/ wedding date? if you did, then you are probably in good shape. if not, you may end up having to wait. if you did not put a date, you cannot expect the embassy to know when you are HOPING to enter the us and get married. we put a date (not one that was fixed in stone, just a date we were keen on) and we were lucky enough to be accommodated. we were prepared to not get it as well. from what i see here, the london embassy does a fairly good job of getting people in for an interview near to the dates requested. they also seem to issue slightly earlier dates for people who have been waiting longer. so you potentially have a couple of things going for you.

there will always be shifting timelines for interviews at the embassy. think of the percentage of people going through the uk embassy who are NOT ON VJ. we are dealing with a small to medium sized slice of the pie, and we are certainly not privy to the great majority of the information that the embassy uses to determine interview dates. there are cancellations due to schedule conflicts, illness, missing documents, and unfortunately even abandoned applications. marm just opened up an april date (before she even knew it)! and im sure someone slipped right in there. call the embassy for the code, send an email requesting an april interview mentioning that you are concerned about not having received 'packet 4'. that may trigger them to get you scheduled for an interview. (its possible you have already done this, but you could always do it again!)

and i am responding in this way because im not into alarmist reactions and i dont think they are good for the board. i find them to be a waste of energy that could be better spent otherwise. so it irks me to see someone getting upset about a RUMOR. people get whipped up into a frenzy and lose perspective. (im not addressing this to you moira, im making a general statement about this forum and other forums on vj.)

keep calm and carry on, as they say.

sorry to be so snarky, must be in a bad mood tonight. and im sick of hearing people freak out about swine flu too. so i am a bit short tempered

and ps. moira, when you call the DOS, do they say that you are 'eligible for an interview' but just dont have one scheduled? thats what they told me in my in-between time. that i was eligible but not scheduled. and then suddenly they told me jamie's interview date.

I guess that's any hope of a May interview out of the window then - I didn't realise that all next month's interviews had been allocated already. sad.gif

why would you say that? based on what evidence? you can do the 'woe is me' thing when you get a interview date that is TRULY disappointing. like freaking july. sit tight. call the DOS to your heart's content. heck, call the embassy on the extortion line if it will make you feel better. but giving up hope? i dont see what purpose that serves.

i dont mean to be harsh. if you really think there is an problem with your interview date being issued, then get busy investigating. things do get lost. shite happens. you gotta keep moving through this and not get hung up on the bumps in the road.

I'm not doing a "woe is me thing" Mr and Mrs. I'm merely repeating what was posted earlier. In one of the posts it said that DOS have said that May's interview's have already been allocated. I called DOS this morning and I DON'T have an interview date ... so I'm assuming, based on the evidence from DOS that I have not been allocated a May interview. Does that make sense?

Basically, if I don't get a May interview then any chance of getting married as planned during the middle of June DOES go out of the window. I wasn't feeling sorry for myself at all, I was being realistic - which made me sad.

And I have every intention of investigating. I'm not going to sit on my butt and do nothing. As for giving up hope? There will never be any chance of that. I know I will get an interview eventually, just that I had hoped for an earlier one and had stupidly made plans based on an earlier one ... plans that unfortunately have to be changed now ...

I really am very happy for everyone who already has their interview date ... and I apologise for showing MY disappointment at not being so lucky ....

This answers my question so disregard the post before this! I was the one that was told by DOS that May interviews have been scheduled already. However, MARM was just given one (yes, probably because someone else switched theirs), so there is still SOME hope at least. You might try calling the Embassy to see why you haven't been issued an interview date..they have more information I am sure. Maybe you didn't send in a form you need or something? I don't know...

I'm lost on all you guys...Kat and Allie moved up and MARM got their date essentially. That works!

Laura~~~ DOS can't do anything but tell you for a free call what has been received, scheduled, mailed, or printed (as in the visa). They just see the things London puts into the computer and they are nice people to talk to. Very helpful people. I doubt they have any info particular to the specific forms and if they were satisfactory...but maybe if London noted that they weren't it would show up.

Hi All ....

Is it too early to be worried? I keep seeing you lovely people getting interview dates before me ... and am beginning to wonder if there is a problem with the docs I sent in. I suppose everyone's circumstances are different and that all applications take different amounts of time ...

Oh well ... no chance of our mid-June wedding now .... sad.gif

Have a great week everyone ...

Did you even confirm if they have received packet 3? If you haven't called DOS or the Embassy you should do that. They can tell you if the Embassy received Packet 3, and who knows, your Packet 4 letter could be on the way....Or, if they haven't received Packet 3 and its lost...that's something that would be important to know!

I just called DOS, and the Embassy just reviewed our Packet 3 today. But, no interview has been scheduled. And, she said they have already scheduled the May interviews so ours will probably be in June sad.gif. Does this sound right to everyone?? Should I try calling back in a day or two to see? We put a travel date of June 9th and a wedding date of August 15.

I guess this may be true - but as you have seen it is sometimes possible to ask for a sooner interview if a cancellation comes up. Fingers crossed for you!

The thing I am worried about is not getting the Packet 4 letter in time to reschedule? Or, do I not need Packet 4 to be able to reschedule. For example, if I call DOS and they say my interview is June 14 or something, can I ask DOS to reschedule? Or does it have to be the Embassy? Is there any possibility that since they just reviewed the documents today they might schedule me one soon still? And if there was a problem with any of the forms, would DOS have told me that? I am a nervous wreck right now! And, I, the USC, have done all the paper work and everything except Packet 3, so its really hard for me to let go of the control haha.

Can I ask what you put for a travel/wedding date? And Congrats!

we left it blank cause we dont know yet!

We left ours blank too, although I suspect we should have thrown something in there. Returned packet 3, 15 days ago. DOS says Pat is approved for an interview but no date has been assigned yet.

It's nice to see you got a May interview PB&JAM, some friends of ours on here (stardust86) got a mid-June interview which seems like forever to me.. I'm hoping we get May.

Bob and Pat (Nervous nelly nail biters. Chicago/Manchester chapter)

My fiance put June 9 as the travel date...so I am hoping that helps us. mid-June?! oh dear...that makes me really nervous.
