PhilippinesUS Embassy warns of possible kidnappings
I would take my chances anywhere in Mindanao or the Philippines alone on a dark street before I would in some of the inner city areas I've been to in Chicago, Detroit or Gary Indiana even.

PhilippinesUS Embassy warns of possible kidnappings
There are many that might argue that Davao is the safest city in the Philippines. The mayor there is a real ballbuster. I don't think many will argue that it is the cleanest and most organized of the bigger cites.
Davao is high on my list of places I'm considering when I retire.

PhilippinesHaving a hard time with new fee increases
You should consider that your wife will be able to work when she arrives there. Even the low end jobs in Cali. pay 10 to 15 bucks an hour and your living expenses likely will not go up by much.

Keep your head up, your daughter will at some point realize the BS her mother put into her head just for spite. Just be a good husband and father , show your daughter a good example of what a happy marriage can be like.

Good luck man.

PhilippinesObtaining passport in the philippines question
Well my Fiancee went to renew her passport a few days ago in Cebu City. She got there around noon time to the DFA office.
There was lines of people outside halfway down the block. She said she thought it was at least 1000 people there and they only had 3 windows open taking applications. She was told by a guard if you expect to get processed in the same day you need to line up by 4am and expect to be there all day.

She also was told with the new electronic passports is a backlog and it is taking a minimum of 15 to 20 business days even with paying the expedite fee which totals 750Php.

She went to the agency close by he did all her paperwork and the had her come to the dfa office next day at 4:00pm to give a thumbprint and they put her in special line and she was done in an hour or so. She paid 1300PhP total so an extra 550 to not have to wait in line all day, seemed worth it to me.

He said call him May 2nd they might have it by then.

Joy would like to have her medical Next Thurs. & Fri , May 8th and 9th. She will be flying from Cebu to Manila. I'm trying to schedule the flights and hotel etc.
What time is the latest that she can go to St. Lukes for her 1st day of the exam? I thought I read somewhere it really not neccesary to get there 6am or anything like that.

How long to SLEC from the airport by taxi ?

Also I recall reading sometimes people not getting results on the second day until like 7pm, Does this mean to be safe I should be booking her return flight for late evening on Friday ?

I'm really trying to avoid having the expense of 2 nights hotel. The flight from Cebu to MNL is like only 1 hour.

Is she has to have a sputum test figure on her being there 3 extra days.

well that would be on the off chance she had scarring on her xray. She has never had TB as far as she knows. If she has to have a sputum test from my understanding another 3 days would be the least of our worries at that point.

Capital One does report our account information they just do not report what your limit is only what your high balance is. I added my husband as an authorized user to an account i have a few years ago and that account actually appeared on the credit report we ran last week. They did give him his own card about a week after he arrived in the U.S with a low limit but it did make it much easier and he now has some regular cards with high limits.

Good luck!

For the sake of simplicity... lets say your credit limit is $1000. But your "high balance" is only $200 and your current balance is $150.

That high balance is being reported as your "credit Limit". This is not good because your credit report is indicating that you are using 75% of your credit limit when in actuality you're only using 15%. This is not good for credit rating.

As far as I know, Capital One is the only one that does it this way and I dont know why.

Capitol One used to report this Way. They changed that policy last fall, they now correctly report your high limits. Always try to keep your utilization on your credit cards under 10%. That has a very big effect on your credit rating. Go read the forums at www.myfico.com tons of great info there on how fico scores are determined and how to manage your cards and loans to keep your credit rating at it's maximum. It is not always logical what makes your scores go up and down. So do the research on those forums and you will understand much better.

PhilippinesQuestions about my visit to the Philippines
I Would take my chances anywhere in Mindanao alone on the street at night versus any US inner city. I think most of warnings are much overblown. Just pay attention around you the same as if you were in any big city in the US.

Especially in Davao, many consider it the cleanest and safest city in PI. The mayor there definately has the right idea. It is tops on my list for a place to build our retirement home. If your budget is not too tight Stay at the Marco Polo It is a true 5 star hotel for 1/4 the price you would pay in the US or Europe for the same quality.

As far as food goes if your worried Stick to things that have been cooked to 150+ degrees, that pretty much kills anything that you have to worry about. Don't bother with beef products in PI the quality is horrible, If you like fish try Lapu Lapu, fresh Tuna or Bangus most of the others are too strong for American palates. For sure try some Lechon, Kinilaw, Adobo, Buko, Halo-halo. The best mango's in the world come from that area in Mindanao.

The main thing is be respectful and have patience service is generally much slower there than we are used to. But the warmth and hospitality of the people are like no where else in the world. If you go in With an open mind and look at it as an adventure you will have a great time.

I moved to Las Vegas in 2006 so I would like to know if anyone knows if this guy is still on the air and what station. I have never heard him so he must not be on a good station. If we can find out his location I will go ask him about the letter and see what he has to say. Lets take a vote and let me know. Just for the record I am a born US citizen and about to marry a Filipina when she gets her on May 16th so I dont like to see things like this. Filipinos are very nice people and I have been there many times and love the country.

His show was nationally syndicated late nights(12am to 3am) on probably over 100+ stations. He retired several years ago and George Noori has been the regular host since. Art sometimes does shows on the weekends. I've listened to Art's shows for like 20 years and I can for sure tell you this is a hoax. He has many times on the air had nice and good things about the Philippines and it's people.
He even was broadcasting from there for a time. His first wife as a Filipina and then he married another Filipina a couple years back.

Some of his show's subject matter may be a bit bizarre, but if you have listened to Art for any amount of time you would of instantly known it was a hoax. In fact he is l 1 of the most open minded people your ever likely to meet.

His radio show discusses topics far from the mainstream, so without question he has made enemies long the way as his shows reveal things many would not like the public to know including many very powerful people.

It's too bad people are still passing this trash email around as Mr. Bell deserves better treatment than this.

Joy had her interview today. She said she had a lady consulate who was very pleasant. She said the lady only ask 5 or 6 simple questions. Interview only took like 5 minutes. She got a pink slip only, no white slip. We paid Doc fee early april Delbros said it as sent to NSO April 14.

So hopefully we get the visa without much waiting.

Rebtel is the only one that I know of that will give you 10 free minutes to start and also only charges 0.13cents landline and 0.15cents mobile. They also will give you a $20 credit just for signing up.

That is all I use because they let you print your phone records, have no dropped calls, clear connection and even provide a local number for the person abroad to call you back for free (costing you nothing).

Anyway, I would recommend them over a phone card ANY day.

Peace

Really? I will switch then!!Thanks good.gif

I've been using Pingo @16 cent a minute to mobiles. Been real happy with the service. I just tried Rebtel, it seems good also. The sound quality was decent. 1st 10 minutes is free to try it out then if you add $10 the give you another $10 credit. 15 cents a minute to mobiles in Phil.

Generally we use MSN for voice and video chat on the PC I like their video quality vs yahoo with our webcam.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWhen can i get response after RFE?
I received a RFE (for my I-130) dated 6-4-12 with a deadline of 8-27-12. After filing my I-130, I found VJ, and based on what I learned here (thanks everyone), I used the RFE to front load my I-130. I sent my response to the RFE back on 8-21-12 (paid for request for signature) and CSC received it on 8-23-12. I received notice from CSC my case was updated on 8-27-12, and checked my case status on the website which confirmed my case was approved :dance::dance:and they mailed my NOA2 on 8-27-12 (still waiting on hard copy as of 8-30-12 ). While it was totally unexpected (since they took so long to send the RFE - my NOA1 was 11-25-11) I give all glory to God for their quick response.:dance::dance: I will add my time line soon.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionReceived RF

Our wait is finally over and my prayers have been answered. My husband received his green card on 8-29-13.  I was  surprised that everything went through so quickly and no interview was needed.

We do have a joint checking account since July 2012 however they are also asking about 2011.  We don't have a joint lease but I have a mortgage on the home in my name only since I bought the home in 1995.  I can try to put one of the utilities in my husbands name however they wanted something from the time period 2011 - 2012.  We are also in the process of buying a vehicle for him to drive which will be titled in both our names.  I have our medical insurance cards and I have a letter from my employer showing that I added him to my insurance in 2011.  I can also send pictures if it will help.  We are in several of my brothers wedding pics.  I just hope this will be enough.

They are looking for evidence of joint living and evidence of joint financial responsibility.

A joint lease takes care of the joint living. We need to know your situation in regards to joint living and lease to advise properly.

You can add your husband to your checking account at least now and submit a letter from the bank that he has since been added. If you have multiple utility/ telephone/ .. providers, get one of those changed to your husband's name - they are not looking for both names on one utility but at least one utility with the address in your husband's name also.

What about your joint tax returns, which is a great proof.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionReceived RF

My husband and I have been married 3 years.  I applied to remove his conditions last November sending in copies of fax reurns, copies of debit cards and bank statements showing a joint account, copies of medical insurance cards showing he is on my insurance at work, copy of my 401k benficiary listing my husband as beneficiary  Two weeks ago I received an RFE.  They are now asking for copies of bank statements showing a joint account from March 2011 to Sept 2011 and Jan 2012 to Aug 2012. They want financial records and residency proof.

I didn't add my husband to the bank account until July 2012 and he is not on any of my credit cards. He didn't want to be on the credit cards and he wasn't working. We don't have any life insurance and he is not on my car insurance.  We don't have any joint loans and his name is not on the utility bills.  This may look bad for us but he just got a job in March 2013. My utilities were already established and they will only put one name on the account.  He does have a drivers license that he received in 2012 but with him not working he didn't want me to pay the added expense of adding him to the insurance.  He does not drive my car but he wants to get his own vehicle now that he is working and I would add him to the car insurance.  He works at home so he said there is no need to add him to the car insurance until he gets a car. His name is not on the mortgage because he only recently started working.

I don't know what to do since I don't have the records that they are asking for.  Please help, any advice would be appreciated.

PhilippinesCan one marry on K1 before going to the US?
I often wondered about this. We all know how slow the government is. It seems they would have no way of knowing if after receiving the visa you get married then jump on the plane a few hours later.

Our letter was in the mail when we got home last night. I thought it a bit strange, our letter was sent from our local office in Indianapolis. I thought it would come from CA since we sent our application there. Doesn't really matter, just glad this part seems to be over with. Until the next step. good.gif

Congrats to everyone else who got notification. Hope it continues for everyone.

Thanks,

I have a Capital One Mastercard and am considering not paying it off anymore. I was always making payments when I lived in Canada but now that I'm not allowed to work and they won't accept payments in American money from American banks I'm about to tell them to shove it. Could I get in trouble?

Can you transfer it to a Capital One in the US?

I'm not sure. I'd have to find out. I have a feeling I can't as it was through Bank of Montreal I believe.

You can't. I tried. lol

As for my own experience.... we recently bought a new car from Nissan. In order to get the 2.9 financing they needed my credit score. My US credit history is zero because cellphone and utility bills don't count, and I don't have any US credit cards. So the "Internet Director" at Nissan (we did a referral request through AAA online) called Nissan in Canada and asked them to pull my credit history over there. Boom. Instant financing and I'm now building US credit. In other words.... if the company's big enough, and they want your business badly enough, they'll find a way. good.gif

Thanks. I won't bother trying. lol Although this should free me from the responsibility of paying them back. If they aren't willing to accept the money I give them then maybe they don't want to be paid.

I don't have bad credit in Canada, however, my debt is astronomically high for someone who is not allowed to work yet. Congrats on getting the car loan.

CanadaThe Way We Were

Congrats Jill! I just got approved for naturalization as well (May 16). It's nice to be done with USCIS. It feels different being a US citizen ... surreal, actually ... I can't explain exactly, but I feel more like I belong. The other day, the water bill came in and for the first time in six years I realized I didn't have to make a copy of yet another piece of paper and stick it in a file, nor would I have to ever again. Sometimes, the little things hit home ...

It's hard saying the part where you give up loyalty to other countries ... I think it will be easier to say when you think of the tattoo on your back. I remember Flames saying he wore his Canadian Flag socks at his oath ceremony. :) Thank goodness Canada recognizes dual citizenship, even if the U.S. doesn't. Going through this whole process sure makes you feel your Canadianness in a way you never would if you stayed in Canada. You can take the Canadian out of Canada, but you can't take the Canada out of the Canadian. :) Eh!

Congratulations Gypsyangel. I completely agree with all that you said. :) I'm not a citizen for another couple weeks but the rest of it, yeah you're right. It will be hard for me to say the oath but I'm doing it. I made an oath when I was in the Canadian military that I'm going to have to break and that's hard to do. And even with this oath, deep down I'm knowing that I'm still Canadian and I still love Canada even though I love this country too. So there's pluses and minuses to this whole dual citizenship thing.

CanadaThe Way We Were

Hi Everyone, hope all the Canadian VJers are doing well! I had my N400 interview on Friday, which went extremely well  I had this incredibly kind man interview and test me, he was a gentle old soul. We spoke alot about Canada, and really he didn't ask me for any of the ton of evidence I brought! I guess I sent in enough with my application. So I have my Oath on Monday at the Philadelphia Constitution Center! Before I take the Oath though, I went back home last weekend and got a rather large Maple Leaf tattooed on my back! LOL I still get home quite a bit, every 2 months or so. I'm happy that my immigration journey will be officially over Monday, so long USCIS!!

Congratulations Jill. I was lucky enough as well not to have to show any of the bunch of evidence I brought. lol I had to laugh when the guy asked me one state that borders Canada because where I grew up, I could put my feet up and they'd be in Detroit. So I said Michigan and was thankful for the freebie. :)

CanadaThe Way We Were
I haven't posted in this forum in a long time but it's nice to be back among fellow Canuckians. Lately I have felt like I am losing my "Canadian identity" so to speak, what with the naturalization process, the interview, and my oath ceremony in a couple of weeks. I'm excited about becoming an American but I have been here five years and miss Canada too. It's been a fun ride...
