K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports	January CSC filers - Interview Progress	I scheduled "Ski's" interview for July 3. In the past, I've heard petitioners must purchase the beneficiary a round-trip open ended airline ticket home. This is to remove the government's liability to return the beneficiary home if marriage does not occur in 90 days. Is this true? George I don't know about that George but there have been plenty of people on VJ who were fine just purchasing a 1 way ticket. Congrats on the interview! Thanks Sarah, we're keeping our fingers crossed that everything in packet3 and packet4 will be available when really really needed. Last Friday she made her medical appointment for tomorrow morning based on a call from the Kyiv embassy with her NVC number. This gave me some confidence to move forward without documents in hand. So last night I called the interview scheduling service for Kiev and told them the NVC number. I assured the interview scheduler our checklist was complete. "Ski" already set her medical appointment at the embassy certified doctor in Kiev this Friday, before she has her packet 3 or 4. I thought she needed authorization and an embassy form contained in packet 4. This would be carried to the Doctor's office to be filled out after her exam. Any ideas on this? Wednesday, Tania and I will begin a two day move 50 miles away to the university I'll be attending for the next few years. Friday, I have a pre-surgery workup to correct some "issues." Since it's been about 100F in Kiev for days, she loves the Michigan weather. We spent several days in Chicago with a friend of mine from Chicago and a friend of hers from Odessa. Tania and I also celebrated our coincident birthdays last Saturday. More news later, but we must go now. Tania offered to email or talk to anyone who wishes to learn about her experience. The worst part was waiting 3-1/2 months without a peep from CSC, while other filers were receiving touches and some approvals. Oh wait, she is already here in the US with me... gotta love the Ukraine postal service..... LOL! To cities outside of Kiev, the postal service sux. However, I've been impressed with the postal service in and around Kiev. I know it can take two weeks or more ADDITIONAL to get to other cities from Kiev. A couple years ago, "Ski" lived within two Metro stops of the main post office in Kiev. The normal delivery time from my small city in Central Michigan to her at that downtown address in Kiev was ten to fourteen calendar days. Once, I mailed a letter from my local post office on a Thursday morning, and she received it the next Wednesday evening! Also, It was suggested on this site a week or two ago, the status date of when packets 3/4 are mailed is bogus. That status date is really the date the embassy officer completes work on them and they're ready for mailing. Packets 3 and 4 may sit in the embassy's offices and mail room for quite a while before they make it to the normal mail system. I've asked Ski to pay carefull attention to the postmark/cancellation stamp when she receives packet 3. Visa services in Washington DC said it was mailed on June 8. Fwaguy, how much cash did your fiancee need to go through the entire process? "Ski" used $75 for her medical exam, and it's $100 for the interview. She says this is all the money needed. I told her today I think the total she must take to the interview is closer to $370. Additionally, there is a cost for the visa stamp and courier delivery of her passport with the K-1 visa stamp after the interview. Correct? George Maybe I answerd my own question, I totaled initial 129f $170, medical $80, interview $100, interview scheduling $12, and $8 for passport/visa delivery. = $370!! K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports	January Filers	Today was the first time since the USCIS received my petition in January, that my "Case Status Service Online" has been updated. Even though my petition was approved on May 3rd, I never received any of the three possible notifications: online status update, email notification or hard copy. Today I received an email stating "Approval notice sent" and my online status was similarly updated. This only happened because I called them two weeks ago (30 days after my case was approved) to inform them I never received a notice of approval. Dealing with the U.S. federal government for ANYTHING is an exercise in frustration and patience. Going through the embassies is no greased cake walk, either. As just a curious inquiry, I called NVC on May 25, and learned our 129f was approved two weeks earlier. They gave me the Kiev embassy/NVC number. "Ski" and me used this number to set up her medical exam (passed weeks ago) and her interview for July 3. As of today's mail, she has not received anything from the embassy. We've completed our paperwork by downloading packet 3 and 4 forms from the website. If she waited for packet 3 from the Kiev embassy, we still would not have ANY appointments set. Another point, the customer service rep at the Dept. of State in Washington, DC said her packet 3 was mailed from the embassy on the 8th. She has not received it yet! Mail in and around Kiev takes only 2-4 days. My point is to try to learn what's needed, and do it yourself. Don't wait for the government to do what they should when they should. I know that there is not a reliable pattern with touches and approvals, for now I am glad that someone is looking at our case. I think the touches last week were caused by putting our response into the system. Now it seems to be in someone's hands again ... If we don't have an email by tomorrow morning we will call (I am in Cologne right now and I don't want to call the USCIS from a hotel room in Germany ) Arnt Don't worry too much about not seeing updates or getting email, the USCIS' system is unreliable. So I got impatient last night reading about everybody receiving Packet 3's and interview dates, and decided to email the Embassy. They replied already saying they received our case and are sending me the instructions today! Yippee I still have to receive some documents Howard sent me last week, but then I can act really fast. Hopefully I can schedule my interview soon and be with my Love-Bug in a couple of weeks. Hip Hip Hooray! Lenka & Howard, Good job taking the lead away from the mail offices in the various agencies! I called USCIS, today and eventhough 30 days will not be up until Sunday, the guy submitted the request to issue my NOAs and told me to wait 30 days. I also called NVC, because I still haven't gotten a letter from them by post (I did get an e-mail in response my inquiry which said the case had been forwarded to the embass). The lady said they sent and e-mail. I was like yeah, but I never got the hardcopy. She laughed and said she'd put in a request for a hardcopy. Guess she's wondering why I'm fixated on a letter. But I want all our "i's" dotted and "t's" crossed. I an probably let that NVC letter go, but the NOA2...whats the deal. Just wanted to share and vent. -Dodie We have not seen ANYTHING in writing from USCIS or the NVC since the first week of February when I received the hard copy of NOA1 from CSC. Our NOA2 approval was May 10, NVC received our petition the 18th, the embassy in Kiev received the package the 23rd. "Ski" in Kiev was notified by the embassy May 25th, last Friday. Using the NVC number, she immediately set up the medical for tomorrow! Last night, I called Kiev and set up the interview for Tuesday, July 3. K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports	January Filers	This afternoon, I received a call from a staffer of my congressman's office. The call was in response to a letter I emailed to their office May 17, regarding the K-1 processing slowdown. A week or so ago she called CSC using the congressional information line. Great I thought! It turns out her information was the same as we get from the customer service line. That is, they are now processing November 13 129f's, my 129f is pending, and I have almost 12 weeks longer until CSC processes mine! She was quite surprised when I told her my application was approved May 10, sent to the NVC May 18, and arrived in Kiev May 23. My fiancee already has packet 3, and her medical is scheduled for Thursday the 31st. The USCIS website showing the status of my petition was updated only last Frday evening, the 25th. Of course, she asked what my problem was, since CSC was working on November's petitions, and my January filing was approved 2-1/2 weeks ago! I then told her about visajourney.com, and pointed out the timeline information. We talked about 30 minutes on the phone, it was very informative on both sides. We keep calling USCIS but we could not get specific answers from them. And it sucks! I'm starting to doubt that the case number wasnt for us.. LOL.. J/p. By the way, congratulations , FutureMrs.. Finally.. The system they use to send us information is as bad as the approval system itself! I had to go through voice-mail-hell to get to a UCSIS customer service agent that gave me helpful information. She told me my I-129f was approved two weeks earlier!
