CanadaAdministrative Processing?
When my (now) husband's visa was taking an extremely long time to be issued, we called DOS several times trying to find out the status, we were told by one customer service rep that it was in Administrative Processing and it could take up to another month to be issued, but this was not the case, the words "Administrative Processing" get misused by those operators, and what they were really telling us was that the visas take "Administrative Work" after the interview process.... NOT the same thing... so you might not want to panic just yet, and keep calling DOS daily for whatever updates you can get.

So sorry to hear about all this mess for you!! Posted Image I hope they get it cleared up fast.

CanadaOverstay

Do you know if they had any issues at the border?? If they have not, they should probably be fine.......my husband had an overstay and didn't require a waiver. They just need to be completely truthful to the amounts of time spent in the US on all of the paperwork.

just wanted to add.....that was our experience....we were worried about the overstay and got an attorney for the K1 process, and it turned out that we wasted our money, they didn't do anything we couldn't have done on our own.... no waiver was needed.... but I'm not positive it this is typical or if we just got lucky. Maybe someone else here has more info. to offer.

no visa, she was just visiting. She has a border denial too, well, actually, the same as me, a voluntary withdrawal. Def needs to ditch the lawyer, she seemed relieved. I'm thinking it won't be an issue since she has not been in the country for a year. She didn't get a ban, and I'm assuming they would have instead of a voluntary? anyway, she's just getting started so she'll be here soon enough! S and P, how long was the overstay?

thanks for the help guys. :)

Should I just tell her to go ahead and file I-129F?

he was in the US for 15 months.

What is an IR (CR) visa..... nothing I need to worry about I guess,,,, so, I am doing a K-1, so I fill out a I-134 for Angelica, and a separate one for her 14 year old daughter? That seems odd to have two separate ones doesn't it? But if you say so... I trust you because I have seen your answers on this site a lot, you know your stuff.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussion3 days to wait for Visa?
Hello to all smile.gif Not getting too far ahead of ourselves, but here is a simple question. Our interview is on a Monday, and I have no option other than to return from Bogota back home to the USA Thursday. I notice it takes a few days to get the visa, can we speed it up any?? Say... by Wednesday pick up or delivery within the city of Bogota? Maybe special request?? Anyone do this? Or is it just the luck of the draw on how busy they are? Thanks!!!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionSchool Transcripts
Hello all, I am looking for some help with my soon to be step-daughter. She will finish her school year in November and then (in Colombia) she would only have 2 years of HS left to graduate. But, in the USA she is in the age group for a Freshman. Of course I want her to excel, but I do not think the good old US school system completely understands that "technically" she should be entering in her Junior year next. So, what advise does anyone have? Also, what about school transcripts?? Her mother has all her "grades" since HS, but did anyone ever get "transcripts" from the school system that differs from what a parent would receive??? If so, what is it called in Spanish because my fiance doesn't really know what to ask for from the school, if there is any such a thing.... Thanks so much, John

PS, if anyone has a stepdaughter around 14 when she moved to the USA from Colombia, it would really help to talk to you specifically.

Hey Everyone !!!! Angelica and I were approved for our visa on Monday !!!! We are still here in Bogota waiting to fly together to the USA and start our life together.

The process to me was a little confusing at first. Got in line around 6:30, entered and went in the general direction of the others in front of me. Waited in a line to check our appointment letter. Next we waited.... waited....waited until around 9:30 when somehow Angelica could hear her named called to window 31,,,, I couldn't understand the loudspeaker at all, and all the noise from other people around me... it's good she wasn't in the restroom cause there would be no way for me to understand the call. We were at the window for around 20 minutes or so.... the off to the fingerprint waiting area. Another 30 minute wait or longer.... she was called and printed. The last window, 4 I think,,, we were called maybe another 30 minutes after the fingerprints... her interview was fast, then my turn.... 3 questions... how did we meet? Do I know her sister, where is she? And one question about our future wedding. After that she said, "Okay-now you need to go pay the Domesa", Congratulations, you are approved. YES !!!!! I got to go now, but any questions please feel free to write !!!!! Thanks to all who helped so much !!!!!! Chao, John

I have a hard time believing that a woman shouldn't wear her "engagement" ring, as a matter of fact, an engagement ring is meant to be worn prior to the wedding from the night you proposed. Now for a man, that's different.... one should never wear a ring until after "with this ring, I do wed". Good Luck!! good.gif

I know we still have a way to go, but I want to get everyting in order early...

So, I was wondering if it would be a good or bad idea to take our wedding rings to our interview (k-1). We got them a few months ago and they are inscribed with each other's names. We have been wearing them to stay close to each other, but we still have the box they came in. I was thinking to get them polished up to look brand new, and put them back in the box, and I will put my engagement ring back on. Here's the only thing that worries me, his ring is inscribed with what my name will be after I take his last name. Will they take this as a sign that we are already married?

I was just thinking this could be used as proof that we are planning on getting married.

Any thoughts? Feelings? Just plain blabber?

Ok, I think I am starting to loose it. Tooo mucho stressss. wacko.gif

My fiancee just recieved her packet 4. The packet still reads to make sure the bank validates the DS156 form. Now I read somewhere in the forums that it was suppose to be on the DS157. I know we will keep the receipt and all but which is correct?

Do we follow the packet the embassy sent which states validate the DS 156?
Do we just show the bank a copy of the appointment letter from the embassy so they know what the payment is for?

Thanks for you assistance.

PS: I want to thank all for all the postings. I read everytime I can and gather so much information here. This by far is a great website.

Good luck to all and I will update our timeline. Thanks again!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionManila Interview - some tips

Hi everyone! We just finished our Visa Interview in Manila today and it went without a hitch or problem. Here are some tips I can give:

- Someone had a guide here with layout of the place. Print that out and follow it.
- DO NOT BRING YOUR X-RAY films. I saw a lot of people with it - it's not necessary. Just make sure you brought the sealed envelope St. Luke's gave you. It's a hassle carrying that large envelope around anyhow.
- If a guard outside tells you to wait on the side first and you can't get in the "Waiting Shed" area, don't believe him. I dropped my fiance off to park the car and found her waiting on the side (where the vendors and fixers are). I went to the line and asked another guard and he said I could go in. Just tell them you're for immigrant visa. We were there around 5:40AM and our appointment was 7:30AM.
- If USC is here to be with the fiance for the interview bring your PASSPORT
- Don't bother bringing cel phones or any other electronic device. You'll just surrender them.
- Inside the place you'll be given a ticket number ACCORDING TO YOUR INTERVIEW APPOINTMENT TIME. Ours was 7:30AM so we had to sit and wait until all the 6:30 appointees got their numbers first. So getting there really really early if your appointment is at 8:30AM is useless.
- Don't worry about the numbers being called or flashing on the board seem to be higher than yours. You haven't been bypassed. They call the numbers in a somewhat random order - I think according to who can get your file together quicker.
- Familiarize yourself with the surrounding - which window is what number - A few people wandered around when their number flashed looking for the room or window to go to.
- Make sure you have 2 extra passport photos and your complete forms. The person in front of us didn't and so they asked him to go back outside and have passport photos taken, gave him missing forms and had them complete it frist. Instead of being #1 for our time slot they went to #24. still no big deal it was about an hour difference.
- Bring at least Php 300.00 for paying Delbros for delivery of fiance's passport and visa. Ours cost around $165 (??) I think.
- Be honest - don't be nervous.
- They asked us the following questions:
> How did our relationship start
> When did we first meet face to face
> When did I propose
> Were we ever married before
> Do we have kids
> What do I do for a living? (the petitioner)
> When did I arrive here in Philippines (petitioner)
> When do we plan to leave for U.S. (we said sometime in May)
.... Pretty basic questions. There wasn't even any cross-examination, i.e. we weren't tested to see if we really know anything about each other.
- I prepared a new set of pictures and copies of boarding passes, receipts, etc. to present as an ongoing relationship. The pre-screener Just took the pictures gave us back all the other photocopies. Then the Consul NEVER even looked at the pictures just gave it back to me, which surprised me. She just went through my old pictures (from my submission of the petition in the U.S.)
- Here's another thing that surprised me. They didn't ask for her Police Clearance or Barranggay Clearance or CENOMAR. Just NBI and Birth Certificate is what we handed over.

Well that's it. No big deal. No hassle. Just make sure you have all your papers ready. Good Luck Everyone!!!!

VietnamPersonal issues re my Viet Nam girlfriend

NEW MEMBER, FIRST POST, PERSONAL ISSUES PRECEDENT TO IMMIGRATION ISSUES, UNSURE IF THIS IS APPROPRIATE TO FORUM.
I will proceed cautiously here until I'm assured I'm not outside forum boundaries...a "Dear Abby" type question.

I met my Viet Nam girlfriend online in 2007. In summer 2008 she came to visit her daughter in the US while, attending school here, and also visited me. In summer 2009 she returned again to the US, and spent more time with me than her daughter. We are now getting along well. I visited her in Saigon during late 2009, to celebrate both of our birthdays. In summer 2010, she again returned to stay mostly with me, we traveled and visited her daughter at her college, etc. She is apparently able to get 6 month tourist visa while her daughter attends college here. This summer she is once again in the US to see me, her daughter and some relatives. Talk of marriage and a fiance visa loom larger and larger, which is ok, as I love her and am crazy about her. I divorced out of a 25+ year marriage with 3 grown children a few years ago; she informed me she was married once for about 2-3 years, then had a BF for about 3 years, broke up with him when she discovered he had a wife and children back in California, and since then, has had no men in her life "whatsoever", for the last 10-15 years before she met me.

I have problems. First, she refuses to tell me anything about her life in those 10-15 years, absolutely. She has told me about how poor her family was, the April 1975 debacle, how her first husband beat her up until she ran away, and then....how her one and only BF paid her $5,000 per month while she lived with him, until my eyes got big and she revised it to $2,000 per month. This has become a bone of contention, but she continues to assure me that it is SOP in Viet Nam for women to get salaries from their BFs, and she tells me she has a GF, whom I met, who is getting money right now from her Singaporean BF.

Problem two. Over time I have progressively discovered more and more pieces of assorted types of "circumstantial" evidence which, taken objectively but together, tell me she has been far less than candid and carries the spectre of a woman who made a living from men, either as a paid GF or worse. Some of this evidence is direct, seen with my own eyes, and some of it involves a lifestyle and accoutrement far above what a person in her circumstances could afford. Now we have periodic little blow-ups over her secret past. She is very cute, sexy and fun to be with, and we have a simpatico between us. As much as I would like to make her my wife and bring her here, I can't imagine having a wife with a secret past who won't tell me about it. After our last tiff, her daughter even called me to say I should open my heart, think only of the future and not worry about the past. What past? haha.

I know the culture is different in Viet Nam. But I'm fairly sure that not all women in Viet Nam are paid GFs. To be fair, knowing how awful Viet Nam was then, if I was a young single woman with a daughter to support, maybe I would have become a hooker! And, maybe I'm all wrong here.

Am I in the wrong forum for this question? More details can be provided if helpful, although most are salacious.

I'm hoping someone here can give me some insights into my dilemma or how to approach it.

OMG! my hubby had an ex, also a Vietnamese, who has a similar streak as your gf (paid GF, secretive past). I am not saying all of the Vietnamese girls are like that. Could be cultural? Each has a choice even when they're from the same culture. And I call my hubby "Mac". Coincidence?

When his bestfriend asked him how he got over it, he said he married a Filipina..hahha! No offense meant to anyone. Just sharing our first hand experience.

Suggest you have to try to get to know her motives and her past. You are into this relationship with an open heart, willing to petition her and her daughter. You have to know her past which has an impact to her present, and, most likely, your future.

Good luck!

We are planning on having the delivery service deliver the visa to the apartment we will be renting during the interview process and leave from Bogota to Miami. They do not have to deliver it to her hometown, but you do need to have the address of where you are staying, stay put until they deliver it, and the charges are less because it is in Bogota, not Medelin. So yes, what you are planning will work, just don't be out messing around while waiting, if your not there to sign for it,,,, you will be in a mess trying to get it delivered again... Good Luck!!

As it is right now with the new mailing the visa thing and no longer able to pick it up, do you think we would be able to have it mailed locally in Bogota so she doesnt have to go all the way back to Medellin?

Not very many replies from the Colombian people lately. Maybe my questions are out of the norm. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have two questions. The packet 4 instructions state "applicants who have previous chest x-rays must bring the RESULTS with them to SLMCEC for comparative analysis" Does this mean the actual film ?
Form ds-156 line (box) 28 asks "who will pay for this trip? " The VJ guide has "Myself" What if the sponsor is paying ?

Thanks,

Hi Dave and Flory,

I guess the chest x-ray result is within 6 months, you can bring the actual film.
But as other filipina who had their medical already, I never heard that St. Lukes ask for their x-rays film. But its ok to bring it than sorry, right?
In your questions in Ds-156, if your sponsor will be paying for your trip, put the name of the sponsor.
You could join us too at Fil-West forum..for sure other members who gone through it can help you more since my medical will be 3rd week of February. There are some members who will go there in advance, maybe you would like to join.
