CanadaMontreal August 2011 Interviews!

So I'm in a panic about my medical, guys.

USCIS lost it, and as soon as they sent the RFE, I scheduled an exam for May 15th. Yes, that was the soonest they could get me in. My RFE response is due June 8th.

Now they're telling me that I need the syphillis test and TB test done BEFORE my medical and those results can take three weeks to get. If they don't have the results, then they can't do my medical.

What if I can't get this all done in time? Do they even offer extensions on RFEs?

I'm so upset, this isn't even my fault and I'm scrambling to fix someone else's error.

So sorry to hear about this!! Posted Image
This will probably sound crazy... but maybe you should try calling USCIS and asking for a tier 2 supervisor and ask these same questions.... who knows... they may actually have an answer... Posted Image ....stranger things have happened!
I tried looking at the USCIS website and searching under RFE's and of course found no answers...(no surprise there)

Good luck to you!!

Just got the hard copy of the RFE. They want proof of my mother in law's citizenship since she's our joint sponsor. So we're going to stop by there tomorrow, photocopy her passport and birth certificate and get them in the mail. So relieved it wasn't the medical, you have no idea...

Posted ImageGlad to hear it was something easily corrected!!!

Green card was in the mail today.

Last night we received the case update text message, I figured it was for EAD or AP but when I checked the website it turns out its for the green card and our card is now in production. We were very happily surprised - this went smoothly!!

CanadaMontreal August 2011 Interviews!

I have a teeny question... does the EAD expire when your I-94 expires or when your visa expires? I'm wondering because I'm filing my AOS after the expiration date on my I-194 and I can't figure out the EAD instructions and whether or not I should bother with the EAD form.

The EAD will have an expiration date one year from the date of it's issue, but from what I've read here, once you get your Green Card it invalidates your EAD (you won't need it then anyway) but it could be a month or two between the time you get your EAD and when you get your Green Card, and seeing as how it doesn't cost anything when you file for it with your AOS... why not?? Guess it depends if and when you will want to be able to work.

I think you can still go ahead with it. Not 100% sure though.

Do I need my SSN to file for AOS/EAD/AP? I filed for it, but I'd like to send in my AOS next week and I'm not sure I'll have my card by then. Will it be any issue?

It took exactally 7 days for my husband to get his SSN card , and no, you do not need a SSN to file AOS/EAD/AP

CanadaMontreal August 2011 Interviews!

I'm leaving on Wednesday morning and getting back Friday evening (interview is on Thursday). I won't have internet while I'm gone so no review until Friday or Saturday. I know the interview is supposed to be easy but boy am I nervous! Butterflies in my stomach just thinking about it. I'm compensating by bringing every piece of paperwork and evidence I can think of. >_>; I have it divided into two sections, one section is what the consulate will definitely want and the other section is everything else.

Thank you for all your help VJ <3 I wouldn't be nearly as prepared without everyone's input here.

Good luck!! You'll do just fine!!

We got approved thank God. :) I am so happy I could jump up and down all day but I am at work so I think my boss would not appreciate that. :D

I hope we get that passport soon so I can go get my baby!

Good luck to all!

I am confused on how the AP has anything to do with a reception in NY...it's part of the US.

I think the OP meant AP in this case as Administrative Processing...... not Advanced Parole... AP seems to be used as a term for both things around here in VJ land

CanadaNeeding Some Advice!!
Can I ask what the reason is for not importing your car??? I know you said you weren't sure if you were going to keep it...are you going to see it back in Canada??

I'm not sure what issues you will have.... or not have.... at the border.... but I think you only have one year from time of entry to import your vehicle DUTY FREE....it doesn't cost anything to do this.. just paperwork to fill out.... do you have a border crossing close to you that you can get to before your trip???
I'd get it imported just to avoid any possible hassle, if it were me....

CanadaWhen You Eat Your Smarties

Went to the Bulk Barn while I was in Canada and brought back a bag of Smarties...... in part, so I could show my husband that they're not the same as American Smarties. :hehe: He says they are M&M's and not "real" Smarties. So we had a discussion on that last night. I declared myself the official winner. :P

We seriously need a Bulk Barn in the US.

CanadaInvoice ID Number
sorry... I should have read your post better.... what you need is the NVC invoice number... and the MTL case number.... which you can either wait for NVC to send you the letter with this information on it.... or call the NVC and see if they will give it to you over the phone. The phone number for the NVC is in the guides you read above. (step 2 of the instructions)

Good luck! Posted Image

Canadadouble checking EAD card = AP too?

I wouldn't try working until you have the card in hand, your employer should need to have proof you are authorized to work before you actually start working, most places ask you that question when you are just applying for work, so personally I wouldn't risk it.   I think it took just a couple of days from the card in production email, to the date the card arrived in the mail.

Canadadouble checking EAD card = AP too?

You have to apply for both EAD AND Advance Parole, if you did then you will get a combo card that serves for both.

FYI  My husband applied for both but only got an email for card production for the EAD, and it came as the combo card for both......  good luck! :)

CanadaCanadian Girl and American Boy want to live happily ever after

Hello everyone! I've spent days and days trying to find some information but to no avail. Hopefully, someone knows the answer or can direct me to the appropriate thread. So here goes...

I am a Canadian citizen. I have family in the US and visited them about twice each year for many years. Never an issue with crossing the border (always travelled by car).

I met my boyfriend while on vacation. I came to visit him for 5 days in February. No issue at the airport. Then, I came to visit him for 6 days in April. At the airport, I got my passport stamped with B2 with September 30th date. It looks like I was given a 6 month visa. I have never had that happened before! Naturally, I got nervous. We then decided that I will come for a couple of months in the summer to see how our relationship works while we are together (as opposed to long distance). I crossed the border on May 28th, by land. No issue with crossing  and no stamp in my passport.

We are happy and in love. We want to get married. However, we are not certain with respect to my status. I do not want to overstay and we want to get married and file the necessary documentation while I am still legally allowed to be in the US. From what I know, as a Canadian, I am allowed to stay in the US for 180 days during a year. When I got my passport stamped in April with the September 30th date, I returned to Canada. When I crossed the border, I did not get a new stamp. Does that mean that I can only stay until September 30 or do I calculate the 180 days (i.e. 5 days in February + 6 days in April + 169 days since May 28) to obtain the date until which I can remain in the US?

All answers will be much appreciated!

Are you planning to stay in the US and adjust status after you get married, or are you planning to go back to Canada and file for a CR-1sposal visa? Or you could wait to get married and file for a K-1 fiance' visa. You will have these three options, and may want to do some research before you leave the US again, the Visa FAQ's and Guides in this forum are really a good source of info.   Good luck to you! smile.png

Visa in hand! 7 business days from interview, standing in front of DHL now, waiting for my taxi. I'll note that once I got the waybill, I kept my eye on it. It got to the Waterloo location at 7am. I never did get the email saying it was ready for pickup, but I called and confirmed with the DHL 800 number that it was fine to go get it. My fiance will be here in a couple hours, going to POE tonight at the Bluewater Bridge!

After months of reading this thread, I am absurdly happy to be able to answer the poll finally, lol. :D

Hi all,

I had my interview two days ago (Monday June 27) and already received an email today saying DHL picked up my passport and it is on its way to the Markham, ON DHL location as we speak! The email included my waybill number and a link to tracking. I'm shocked at how fast they got it sent out, and am hoping to be able to pick it up in the next day or two. I will be completely amazed if I can get it this very same week of my interview. Sorry to hear some of you guys have been waiting so long-- I wonder why I am getting mine so fast, but I hope you all get yours very soon as well! I will update here once I've picked it up~ Good luck all

CanadaWaiting for our passports from Montreal

Hi from Utah everyone!
S and P, approved status is pretty much printed, this is what the lady told me and by that evening I had the DHL email. Can't believe its taken them this long for yours!

My poe at port huron was super smooth! Got to the boarder around 2pm, honestly waited longer in line going over the bridge and getting to the booth than the actual processing of the visa in the.building. had a trailer full of stuff and they never even wanted me to open it, truck imported with no problems. Travelled 3900 kms in less than 48 hrs.

Only crappy part was Matt and I.had Sunday together then he had to head six hours away for work for ten days. He will be back Wednesday. We are going to get our marriage license Thursday and getting married Friday. So excited to see him in five days and get married on Canada day. Hehehe pretty great choice of date on my part I have to say!
Good luck to everyone who still have their interviews to do, are waiting on their passports or about to POE

Glad to hear you had an easy POE and a safe trip!! Posted Image My parents used to keep a boat in Sarnia and we had to cross at Port Huron all the time... it was always a line-up but no where near as bad as crossing in Windsor/Detroit.

20 business days and still nothing.......I called DOS again this morning and was told it was still being processed even though back on June 2 Montreal sent us an email saying it would be issued on June 20th.....and of course DOS tells me they don't have a record of us being told that so we have to deal with Montreal regarding why it wasn't issued when we were told it would be......
I'm not sure what I feel like doing more.... screaming or crying......
I feel like a spoiled child right now....*sigh* Posted Image

I'm so happy for the people who have gotten their visas within a reasonable time frame... but people who haven't interviewed yet need to know you can't always assume anything with this process, not every visa is processed the same and some seem to take MUCH longer with no known explanation ....so like so many here have said... do NOT make any plans until the visa is in hand!!

I'm really wondering if I need to find a congressman to contact at this point... I'm trying so hard to be patient... but our interview was back on May 25th.... I just don't understand....Posted Image
I'm getting even more stressed because the holidays coming next week are going to put Montreal even further behind.....

sorry.. I just really needed to vent.....Posted Image

Well I finally got the DHL email last night. I thought we would never get it. Almost a full month after the interview. 18 business days. They printed it 14 business days ago according to DOS. I put in a Congressional on Monday and they got right on it. I don't know what the hold up was except I know that the Consulate in Montreal is extremely backed up right now. Congratulations to all who have made it this far and good luck and patience to those who are waiting.

I was chatting with Matt on facebook about how it looked like he wasnt going to be flying here.. then all of a sudden i told him OMG i just got the email. He thought i was messin with him.. hehe

So.... I called DOS today to see if there was a waybill or any change in my file since my visa was apparently printed last Wednesday. However the woman today said, I don't know who told you it was printed, she said the status was approved on the 8th. Which I gather is a step ahead or AP. She said they normally print thevday of or soon after the file is approved. So confusing seeing as my interview was may 25th, you'd think approved would mean from the Interview

Anyone else ever experience this?
