dont worry about the letter cos u only needed that for the case number. u just need to call USM Manila, give em ur case number. If they already have ur case, you can then schedule for an interview appointment.

Goodluck!

Philippineslost after NVC Receipt
ya, u only pay $131 for K1. your beneficiary (visa applicant) should fill up the forms: ds156, ds156k, and ds157 (all can be found at www.uscis.gov under the Immigration forms). then she need to bring ds157 to the bank (Banco de oro) and pay for the visa payment, they will then stamp the back of the form.

no need for document verification but make sure that she had CENOMAR with her too during the interview, in case the consul would ask.

after she compiled the forms and affidavit of support and other stuffs to prove your genuine relationship, she can call Manila US Embassy and schedule and Interview. Then have the medical exam at least a week before the Interview date.

Good luck!

Your fiancee can try calling the Immigrant Visa Unit at 011-632-301-2000 ext 5184, but normally they will only help US Citizens. If you call it is best to call when they open at 7:30 AM.

The email used to be really slow, but things may have changed.

Yep, that number works too. It's actually 011-632-301-2000, press 7, then extension 5184 or 5185 and you would be talking to Grace. She's nicer to USC biggrin.gif

I was going to call the Manila embassy this week to confirm arrival of our K1 papers, but they charge so much. Are they pretty responsive with email inquiries? The address they have listed is consivmanila@state.gov

Also, can my fiancee just call the office number? They don't list a charge there. (http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwhni14.html)

Thanks.

Your fiancee can call 1-909-101-7878 and you can call 1-888-877-9888. There is a fee assessed to callers by the call center for its services.

Make sure you have the case number before you call them cos they'll gonna ask for that.

Good luck.

PhilippinesMy case not eligible for interview Schedule
I was a call center agent too and sure do we have scripts to follow but I agree that USM call center agents are of no help cos I had bad experience with them too, but infairness to them I was able to set an Interview date with them and that was the only help they did for me. I also didn't wait for the USM letter but it arrived on the day that I called and set my interview.

You really dont have to wait for the letter cos it may or may not come. You can just give a little allowance for the USM to sort out your applications cos maybe they just received your case and truly still uploading it on their database. Or else if you hurry up and set an interview even if your case was not put into place yet, you may end up in more delay. But you dont really need to wait that long, just a few days wont hurt. biggrin.gif

so i don't have to pay for anything and my fiance just go for her interview and once she pass she just paid for the delivery? So CENOMAR is only the one she need?

Yep, nothing to pay anymore until the Interview which would be for the Visa delivery and she needs to pay Air21 for that. And yes, might as well bring her CENOMAR, just in case. When I had my Interview, they didn't check my CENOMAR but i would still suggest that you bring one.

Me: I thought, we need clothes for out trip?....

This is so funny! My husband laughed at this too. good.gif

One thing I'd suggest too is to watch American movies with the subtitle, read it and listen. It may not be the easiest thing to do when watching a movie but at least you'd not only know what the movie is about but for you to enhance your English pronunciation and grammar as well. And I never hesitate to ask my husband how to properly pronounce some words and he is always more than willing to teach me.

No, there is no Vonage in Pinas. You have to order it here in the US and buy that Vonage box. I think we paid $70 just for that box. When we received that box, we called the customer rep of Vonage and they helped us to set it up, After the set up , we sent it to Pinas. Don't forget to inform them that you'll send it to Pinas because they will ask for some code located at the back of the box. We only paid $9.99 + taxes on the first 3 months of their service then $31 (including all the taxes) after the first 3 months. Btw, the customer reps of Vonage are Pinoys smile.gif

But we don't necessarily need to use Vonage here in the US, right?

Can my parents from the Philippines call me here in the US using Vonage?

Yep, I know they're Pinoys? I used to work for Linksys as a tech rep too and some of my friends for Vonage, ATT, Comcast, etc.

Yes they are in PI. Marilyn is right, their monthly fee is $24.99 (including all their features) + taxes = $30 to $31 (monthly total)

Is there Vonage available in PI or I need to buy it here and send it to PI. That's cheaper than our monthly phone bill. I call my parents every other day and if i use MJ, i dont know how are they gonna install the driver in the PC, so i guess i'd prefer Vonage.

PhilippinesHow Wonderful Are Your Inlaws?(Naging mabait ba sila sa inyo?)
I love my in-laws so much! They all love me too. As in, they always treated me and my son as their own.

I thought at first, when I was still in Pinas, that they'd not like me cos they never knew about me until their son and me got engaged. But after my hubby (was then fiance) told them about us (me and my son) and our plan to get married, me and Mom started e-mailing each other, almost everyday. She is a very nice woman. Very talkative din, gaya ko. In fact, when we first got here, and we met at the airport, she started talking a lot which made me so comfortable right off the bat.

My dad-in-law isn't really talkative and so sarcastic naturally, in a mean and funny way, which what we always miss about him. Both of them loved my son so much though he's not their own blood, but they love him, much more than how they love their real grandson cos they see my son more often than the other. In fact, during the time that me and my then-fiance planned on having me here, we thought of just leaving my son and just have him follow-to-join cos we're tight on money, but it was my parents-in-law who paid every single penny needed for my son to get here at the same time with me. Nakakatouch talaga!

And the list goes on....

Kayo naman! biggrin.gif

They sent us packages before, about couple of times already and we usually receives it within 2 weeks but it has been over weeks now and we still haven't received it. PhilippinesNeed Some Advice...
Before I got here in the US, I knew that I'm gonna be facing this kind of issue coz both of my parents doesn't have a job but they own a small food business. Me and then-fiance talked about it and we set the rules. He first showed me how much is he spending for the bills and everything so that I'll have an idea since in the Philippines, most of us have this mentality that once you're earning dollars, we'll start to get rich laughing.gif headbonk.gif So after setting rules with hubby, I talked to my parents about it and let them understand the situation. I told them that we will help them and we'll try to send money as much as we can but they also need to realize that yes we are earning dollars but we're also spending dollars so that they would know life is not as easy as what they think it is in the US.

It wasn't easy coz at first my parents misunderstood me. They thought I'm being selfish until I got here and told them about (almost) our everyday living such as the prices of the food here, the utility bills payment we had and everything like that. It helped them realized it when it took me awhile to apply for my AOS coz we still need to save $1610 (me and my son) to do so. Now they know the situation, so they don't ask me for money anymore. They just wait if we have extra money to send to them. But of course, we send money in case of emergencies.

Now, for your situation. First you need to talk to your wife and like what everyone said here, set rules with her. Give her enough responsibilities in handling the money like having her pay the bills (of course from y'alls money), do the grocery shopping or just simply setting the budget. You should both know how much you can spend for everything every month or every paycheck (ie $1000 bills, $300 grocery, $200 personal pleasure, $100 savings account). Then whatever extra you have, you can split it in half and spend it however you want. Also, ask your wife that she talked to her family and let them understand the situation coz maybe your wife is spoiling them too much. It may be hard for her but her family needs to know the reality.

In short, don't let her get out of the way coz it's your married life is at stake.

QUOTE (rizamike1 @ Jul 11 2009, 06:30 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
i got here just last week and we went out only twice. portions in restaurants here are humongous and i think too much for some filipinas like me. my soon to be husband doesnt cook, so i'm the queen of the kitchen. this morning we went to asian stores and got what i needed for my filipino/asian cooking. he eats anything i cook just no frying, less fat, sugar and salt and definitely no fish for him.

Haha! I remember my first meal here was at Cheddars in Austin, TX and I got Chicken Fried Steak. It was a very huge plate that would be already a meal for 3 serving in the Philippines. My husband and his family noticed how shock I was. Up to now, I still can't finish the whole plate so me and hubby share most of the time.

I am a fan of fish and one thing I don't like living in Central TX is there's not alot of fishes to choose from at HEB or even Walmart. There are some but they're not as fresh as what it is in the Philippine wet market.

I am a big rice eater, as what most Filipinos are, so I made sure that I have my own rice cooker at home and of course rice. It didn't take me a while to adjust with the western food though coz they have a lot of food that I like. I like the steakburgers so much! And my favorite restaurant is Olive Garden coz I am also a big fan of pasta.

I think, it'll depend on an individual on how she'd adjust. Just slowly but surely though.

Bar-b-q, swim, fish, boat around....just hang-out and have a good time. We could even rent a karaoke machine so our women can sing 70's and 80's love songs together! lol

Count me in! good.gif

We live north of Austin, bout 15 min away.

I arrived here summer of last year and it was good coz I didn't find it hard adjusting to the weather. I immediately found a Filipina working as a cashier at HEB which made me feel like home.

I think Texas is the nicest place for a Filipina coz it's weather is very close to ours in the Philippines except for winter but it's tolerable. And yes I love the lakes here too. I love water so much that's why I enjoy summer more than any other season. I just wished that we're near the beach though.

Anyway, I think your fiancee will love it here. Just teach her to drive ASAP coz the public transportation here is nowhere as big in the Philippines, IMO.

PhilippinesSeeking for help

hi everyone. I decided to seek help for me to know what the resume looks like there in USA once you applied for the job.

I am just trying to help my fiance because he said he is not really a good resume writer..

anyone from you can show me a very good and comprehensive resume? thank you very much in advance..

It would be the same resume that has the applicant's name, address, contact info, objective/goal, experience, educational background, trainings & certificates, special skills, references (at least 3)...

Philippinesphone cards
Hi!

Have anyone here used phone cards on calling someone in the Philippines?

I need some suggestions on what phone card to used and see if it's cheaper to do so than using our landline. I'm calling my Mom in the Philippines from US every other day for 30 minutes each time. We are paying over $200 every month on the landline which includes other services but most of it is from my long distance calling. I am trying hard to save a bit from a bill but still be able to talk to my Mom regularly, so I wanted to try the option of using phone cards instead if it's worth it.

Hope anyone can help. Thanks! smile.gif
