Does the whole biometrics thing work the same as when I applied for AOS? I mean, will they send me a biometrics appt. letter like before?

No difference. You will get an appointment letter, go to the same location (probably), fill out the form (I have no idea why, they already have all the info), left hand, right hand, left hand fingers, right hand fingers, sign here, sit there, look at the camera, done!

OK, thanks a lot! This process sure seems easier than I thought it would be. I'm so glad the fee is not $1,000 either since my husband just got laid off and may not have a job until March. good.gif

Just one form and two fees $465 plus $80 biometric service fee for a total of $545.

See link for details and instructions and form -

Thank you so much! I got confused because that is what I read on the form; however, someone on here posted that it was $1,000! Does the whole biometrics thing work the same as when I applied for AOS? I mean, will they send me a biometrics appt. letter like before?

Since we are dealing with USCIS, I can only assume there is another steep fee for removing conditions. Can someone please let me know what this fee is? And please tell me this process is not as confusing as the others. blush.gif

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionApproved for 10 yr GC without biometrics or interview
Hi! Congratulations!

Were you already divorced when you filed and signed that waiver? I am asking because I am legally separated now and have to remove my conditions in April. I am terrified because I have two US citizen children and am scared they will deny me and I will get sent back to Germany without my kids. :*(

I have a question regarding how to file for the removal of conditions if you are separated. My husband and i have not been able to get along ever since he returned from Iraq last summer. He has just received orders to get stationed on a short tour to Ft Meade, Maryland. Since it is a short tour, me and my kids will be staying in Texas and I am not sure if this will all end up in divorce.

Anyhow, on the I-751 Form it looks to me as if the waiver options all apply to a divorce. What should a person like myself do that is separated? I will be filing all by myself.

I have two kids which are both US citizens ... my youngest is my husband's daughter. My worst fear is getting denied and then having to leave here without my children.

I think the fourth waiver option would apply for you:

4. The termination of your status and removal would result in extreme hardship.

Can you wait till your husband returns from his tour to file, so you can do it together? Does he even know you are thinking of divorce?

I can't wait until my husband returns from his tour because he is basically kicking me and my children out. He told me the day that I posted this, that he is due to leave in may and the clock is ticking for me. So, I am moving to Texas because that is the only place I have support from family and friends. My husband has no plans on helping me in any way. He is very controlling and dominating and I'm tired of it and he is tired of not having someone who follows his thinking and ways.

Do you know what type of evidence I would have to send along with the I-751?

I read somewhere on here that if he filed the affidavit of support, I would also need to put his new address? What if i don't know it? He is refusing to give me any info.

US Citizenship General DiscussionAtlanta Interview & Oath on same day?

:goofy: Actually yes, his says the same. I was trying to recall it by my memory, obviously that didn't work well - ha. Keith actually read it to me last night and I didn't read it myself until now. But I didn't think I was "necessary" but I will try to go in anyhow since you say your hubby has and you have seen others who have. :goofy:

Hi, I am due to have my interview in Atlanta at 07:15 on December 3 but am unable to find out if the same day oath ceremony is currently available or under what circumstances. I notice from your timeline that you did get the same day interview - is this common or because you traveled from Mobile? I have a four hour car journey to Atlanta and therefore need to stay there the night before the interview due to the early appointment; I was hoping I could take the oath the same day to prevent having to do the trip all over again some weeks later.

Did you find out about the same day oath ceremony that day or beforehand? Any info would be appreciated.

US Citizenship General DiscussionInterview passed!!

 PASSED!!! So excited!!

I had my citizenship interview in Atlanta, GA today... PASSED :) I missed the same day oath by about 5/10 mins but hey, I still passed! My appointment was at 12:45 and they saw me about 25 mins late. My interview lasted about 30 mins, but the interviewer was just slow and methodical. He was very nice and mainly nagged me about my out of state ID.

All in all very simple and easy :)

Congratulations on passing your interview. I am scheduled for mine, also in Atlants GA, on December 3 at 07:15. Did they offer the same day oath or did you find out about it after the fact? I would obviously be excited if I could take it the same day to prevent another overnight stay and a day's travelling each way. Did you ask for the oath at the interview, before or after it, or did they just tell you that you were too late? Sorry for all the questions but I would like guidance on when to bring up the topic or if they do.

US Citizenship General DiscussionAtlanta Interview and Oath Cermony
Well the journey is over. Traveled to Atlanta the day before and stayed at one of the many hotels next door to the USCIS Center for a 7.15am interview. Went through an airport type entry system then booked in at reception and was told to go to the 2nd floor to wait for my Interviewing Officer (IO). I was called by my Korean, I think, IO at around 8am and was relieved of my appointment slip. He took me to his office, asked for my drivers license, green card and passport then he got me to raise my right hand and swear to tell the truth; he then asked me what the truth meant to which I replied that it meant that I would not lie. He then went through my N-400 for accuracy, asking various questions in each section like, when did you arrive in the US, when did you get married, what are the names of your children, are they here with you, what is your wife's name, how did you meet her, what was the last date you entered the US, etc, etc. When I told him I did not remember the exact date I re-entered the US and that it was already documented in the N-400, he insisted that I tell him so that he could verify what I had written - basically know your dates and entries from the N-400 because they will check what you had written. I then was asked the civics questions, I got the first 6 correct so he stopped there, he got me to read a statement in English the write a sentence in English. Then he went out to the waiting room and brought my wife into his office and asked her a number of questions that he had already asked me. Once he had done this he advised me that he was approving my citizenship and taped my green card to my file. He then asked me how long it had taken for me to get to Atlanta from my home town. I told him that it had taken over 5 1/2 hours the previous day - he then checked the time to drive the route using Mapquest on his computer and said that I should have been able to do it in 4 hours  . Nevertheless, because I was over 4 hours from Atlanta, he advised me that he was scheduling me for the same day oath ceremony that would be held at 1pm  . I was instructed to go back into the waiting room and wait for one of the administrators to call my name to confirm the appointment before we were allowed to leave the building for lunch. The hardest part of the interview was understanding the IO's English! We left the building at around 10am and visited the local mall and had lunch, returning to the USCIS, going through the airport style security point again, for 1pm. My wife was then told that she would need to wait on the 3rd floor with all other relatives and that they would be called forward at the time of the ceremony. Then it was the waiting game. At around 1.45 we were led into the ceremony room, about 125 of us, and waited again. We were then filed in front of 2 administrators to check that the spelling and dates on our naturalization certificates were correct and then handed a seat number to go to, on which there was a flag and a USCIS envelope containing a passport application, the oath of alliegance, the national anthem and a couple of "welcome" papers. After the relatives were called down, the ceremony began, albeit with a number of technical hitches with the video projectors. We were shown a film of the US showing loads of different lifestyles and scenery then we were told to stand and raise our right hand. We were then sworn in as US citizens :D . Much applaud followed. We were then shown a video of the President addressing us as new citizens and finally swore alliegance to the flag. We then collected our certificates and took lots of pictures. Unfortunately, because the ceremony slipped in time, I did not get a chance to visit the passport office in Atlanta so I will need to submit my application through the local post office. Well that's it folks - best of luck to those that still have to go through these final steps - it's worth it!!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHelp with Affidavit of Support I-134
I'm a US citizen marrying a Swede. Our I-129F was approved August 5, and I'm working on the Affidavit of Support to send to my fiance for him to take to the Swedish Embassy. I'm really confused on some of the questions. First off, number 7 asks about job info. I have two jobs, and have had both for over two years. I have letters from both jobs, staing the required info. There is only one blank for one job. Which do I put, or how do I put two? On number 11, Do I put yes or no? I feel if I put no, it cancels out this whole affidavit, if I put yes then they want specifics. He won't be going to college here or anything, and will start working as soon as he is allowed.. But I'm going to support him for every day needs. Do I put no there?
Help greatly appreciated!

Edited to add: I don't make enough off my own income to support him by their guidelines, so my father is sponsoring him as well, and makes more than enough money for mine to not be an issue. But I still have to fill it out!

QUOTE (itzallgood @ Oct 31 2009, 04:59 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Bottom Line: If couple does not marry within the 90 days on a K1 visa, you are in for a world of hassle. How simple can the rules be: Marry within 90 days!

I'm not impressed with all the suggestions for fancy paperwork to get things right if the couple fails to marry within 90 days. It says chapters about the couple if they can't comply with such a simple 90 day requirement. There simply is no excuse for not getting married within 90 days. Does not bode well for the longevity of the relationship. Pffffft!

You're really not answering the question. You don't know why they did not get married within the required time frame. Fact is that it wasn't done so now it's time to think of other options/solutions. Dwelling on the past won't help them in the matter.

What i don't understand is this ....

I have been on VJ since around 2006 or so. I have seen plenty of posts from people on here who also did not get married within the 90 days, and still they filed for AOS.

This really confuses me. Have you asked this question in the AOS section? Perhaps others in that section will answer who have faced a similar problem. I know with 100% certainty that others have done this.

United KingdomMMR vaccination
I had to have the MMR shot too since I have never had mumps. I was told that when I go for the medical exam for AOS, I will need to get another MMR shot. I believe you need 3 shots in order to be fully immune against MMR.

Hi, I have been to get my vaccination history from my doctors for my fiancee visa today and I had my tetanus while I was there. The nurse told me that I will probably need the MMR as I only had rubella and measles when I was younger and not mumps but that I had to wait a month for the first jab and then had to wait a further 3 months for the second one. I can't wait that long - it's been long enough!!
Does anyone know if this is true as I have read different things on this forum?

United KingdomVery nervous!! medical and interview in nest 2 days

Ok I am so nervous - firstly my medical is tomorrow 6 june at 2.30pm - I think I know where I am supposed to go - the MAP B Bentinck Street address:) Luckily I will be staying at the Marble Arch Inn which isnt too far away from this. I think I have everything for that:

- 1 passport pic,
- my questionnaire and £200.
- my letter from my GP about my health history (this is where I am worried as I have anxiety, mild depression, panik attacks and a history of 2 anurisms which my doc has written in the letter is all cleared up after treatment many years ago ),
- my list of vacinations I had done - hell I even have a letter of my smear test lol

Then I have my interview at 10am on 7th JUne - again the embassy isnt a very long walk away I hope lol - well it looks pretty near on the map lol. I understand I should be there outside at 9.30am and wait! All the waiting is stressing me off as I am not a patient person lol I hope I have everything:

- davids affidavit of support,
- his intent letter,
- his letter from employer,
- his tax returns for the last 4 years,
- his bank details with average income com,ing in and present balance (which really isnt much at the moment too many bills being paid)
- his and my birth certificates,
- I have 2 passport pics (I LOOK AWFUL IN EM)
- My contract with my estate agents saying I have my house on sale with them for £132,000,
- my previous marriage and divorce certificates,
- Police record - well unfortuantely that hasnt arrived yet - I have one I had done last year but it has expired - I was gonna show them that as I have no record at all - I am such a good girl lol and tell them I will mail the new one when it arrives hopefully next week.
- 2 small photo albums of pics of us and his family in all the visits I made to him,
- A printout of my onetel phone bill for the last month as we have spoken alot on the phone lately - previously we always talked on voice in yahoo or other voice module so there is no way to record any of this for proof. He isnt much of a writer so doesnt email much and besides we talked every single day lol
- Copy of the whole petition.

Ok am I missing anything else?

I dont know why but i feel like I am gonna be interogated and I hate situations like that as I look guilty as hell lol and an answer to one of the questions I hear they may ask is "have you met his family and has he met my family?" well yes I have met all of his family and they treat me like I am already a very close member of their family and love me to bits - buit he hasnt met my family yet but will do when i am ready to move there he is coming here to meet family and to pick me up. (unfortunately my family dont approve - but hell I am 39 I decide who I want to be with for the rest of my life, they dont undertsand all I want is their blessings, coming from an Indian family we normally have the extended family background so my culture expects me to respect my elders which I do - but being the youngest of the whole family they are worreied for me but I only wish they would stop critiscising and just accept it!)

Ok enough blabbering - im nervous and I do that when nervous - my female friend is coming to my place tonight and we will both go to london on the train tomorrow, so any hints, message etc will be appreciated before I go:)

Thanking all in advance - please pray for me that it goes smoothly:)

Lina (UKC)

Do NOT worry about anxiety and panic attacks being on your medical. I have anxiety too and that was put on my medical. The only problem I ran into with that was at the POE in Chicago when I submitted everything to the IO. He made me wait on the side and called someone from the CDC. I was soooo scared! However, the CDC lady thought he was crazy so they let me go. Don't worry about it. Just be prepared that they MIGHT ask you about it at the POE but it is still no big deal. Once you are approved, you are approved.

United Kingdomflight and arrival info please

I leave from gatwick on thursday afternoon, good luck to all others leaving this week, i noticed theres a couple more.
Now what form do i fill in on the plane, the white one right? Then when i arrive i have my brown envolope on show? and what line do i get in? thanx in advance. Im dreading it as my POE is philadelphia and ive heard bad stuff about using that as POE, plus ive already had one bad experience there before.

You fill out the white I-94 form - do NOT fill out the green one. They gave me that one and somehow I thought it wasn't right. After explaining my situation, they gave me the correct form. You also have to fill out a customs form which asks you what you are carrying in your bags. Be sure to be honest. I had a forget-me-not plant that my neighbor gave me before I flew here. It was in a blue pot with seeds in it. I saw on the customs slip that it asked if I was carrying plant seeds so I put a checkmark by it. When the customs officer checked my bag and found it, she said it was good that I answered honestly because had I lied, I would have had a $300 fine! LOL .. They did take my flower seeds though :*(

The line you go through is the one that says visitor, tourist, etc.

They will ask you for your brown envelope when you get to the little booth thing.

United KingdomDid you get married in a hurry for the visa
I am not from the UK but felt obligated to answer. I met my husband back in 2003 when he was stationed in Germany. We had both been married before and when we met, we weren't really thinking about finding another marriage partner. We wanted to date, take it slow and go form there. To make a long story short, he got out of the army in 2005. He tried finding a government or contract job in Germany so that we could still be together but the pay was either too low or taxes too high. So, he ended up going back to the US where the opportunities were better. He found a job in FL. After being separated for about 2 months, we just couldn't stand it - it was unbearable! So we decided that I would come to the states. My daughter is American and i wanted her to attend school here anyhow.

Anyway, I had a GC already (my dad petitioned for me in 83) so I figured I would just come back to the US right away. Did NOT happen - could NOT happen. I found out during my criminal justice degree program when I was taking a law class, that once I tried entering the POE with this GC, they'd realize i was out of the country for more than a year. Mind you, when I left the US in 2002, i had NO clue about re-entry permits, etc. Since I had my GC since I was 7, no one ever explained this to me. My mother always just told me that my GC was permanent and would not expire.

So there I was all ready to go but couldn't. I contacted the INS, immigration lawyers, etc. A returning resident visa wasn't successful so my husband told me to forget all the ####### and let's just get married. So he then petitioned for the fiancee visa. Now here I am! My family wasn't too happy. Basically the reason for that was my daughter. They felt she would have a hard time adjusting and stuff.

QUOTE (Poiteen @ Aug 28 2007, 06:26 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Gotta ask some sage advice of you guys, particularly those who got married sooner than they might have done to be together or so they could go to the US together. helpsmilie.gif

I've been with my USC partner for 5 yrs now. We've lived together in the UK for the last 3 (he was here as a student). Where we would end up, and how it would it be possible has always been an issue for us, and I kinda assumed that if we wanted to be together long term we would have to get married. (to my annoyance every tom, ####### and harry from the earliest stage in our relationship has felt entitled to ask us if and when that would happen). Because we've both thought about it more than maybe someone else would, we've come to the feeling that we really don't want our relationship which has progressed and developed without rings and white dresses to be suddenly defined by them. My partner feels this way very strongly.

Recently we got an EEA Family Permit (I'm Irish) for him yes.gif , as unmarried partners, so we can stay in the Uk without getting married huh.gif . However, the longer I stay here, the more I think that our quality of life would be a lot better in the US. The marriage can of worms was reopened. I talked to my family about it. At first they seemed fine, and happy for us, but I suspected they were dissappointed, and pressed the matter. It became clear that they'd be very disappointed that there wouldn't be a ceremony, and really couldn't let go of the idea that 'really we would be married'. Funny enough, my sisters were more affected than my parents who had a more 'well you love each other, that's all that matters' approach. Despite our protestations that yes legally we would be married, and we are happy with the legal protections that will give us as a couple. But we don't want them to think of us differently, or God forbid start asking when the grandkids are arriving. headbonk.gif

I know that how we feel is pretty specific, but really I would just like to hear stories about anyone that is going in to or has gone in to marriage a little quicker than they would have otherwise. How do you feel about it? How do your family feel?

We called the whole thing off, and said we would just stay here, but we think it's the right thing for us, and now are thinking about going ahead, and just lying about how I got the visa.

P.S. Moderator, I would be most grateful if this was kept in the UK thread heart.gif

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusMedical Exam

Yes, it's a very reliable place and the results are ready the same day. I used it and was very happy with it. You'll probably have to wait there in the lobby for like an hour or so after the whole procedure is done, but it's no big deal, right?

Noone,
How long does the actual medical exam take? What do they do?

Like Satellite said, chest x-ray, general check up, blood test. Not long at all, maybe an hour tops including waiting in line. What was a little strange though - the male doctor asked me to take my clothes off. All of it. But it may be a normal thing for a check up, it was my first one with somebody I didn't know (my mom is a doctor, so I didn't need to see strangers for an exam)

LOL, I had to take my clothes off too. He looked all over my body ... I guess to see if I had anything visible on my skin. I know genital warts can be present on the inner thighs so perhaps he was looking for something like that LOL.

I have seen on here that some women have had to spread their butt cheeks and the DR looked in their butts. Some have also had pap smears to check for chlamydia and gonorrhea. I forgot what country these women were from though. I would have felt so embarrassed if I had to do THAT! Kinda violated, you know?

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusScammed by my wife!!!!
As for scammers - you truly never know why someone divorces right away after getting their unconditional GC. I wouldn't say ALL of them are scammers. Alot of women end up coming here only to suffer abuse. I myself am a witness to that. By the time we are abused, some of us end up with children by the abuser. That child is a US citizen and in order for that child to return with us to our home country, our abusers need to sign permission for us to take our children. Any mother in her right mind will not abandon her child. So what will a loving mother do in order to preserve the bond that her and her child have formed? She will get her unconditional GC and do what she can to stay.

Now i do believe there are some serious scammers though but I'm not one of them. My husband and I met in 2003 and have been together ever since. My intent was real - not fake. I left everything that I had in order to be with him. However, once he returned form Iraq he turned out to be a narcissistic freak and mentally tortures me to no end. I am NOT allowed to work. I am not allowed to do much of anything. He is a 100% different person. I want to badly leave but in order to do so, I have to leave my 4-month-old baby behind. I can't do it. If i leave, i will never be able to see my daughter again.

Well, much to my surprise, we got a notice via e-mail that "production of card has been ordered" for my wife's 10-year (unconditional) permanent resident card (we were not expecting such a notice until maybe June or so). It should be here in a week or so.

So far, there has been no discussion of divorce or dissatisfaction - and no sign of having been scammed by my wife. Just so you know (:

For us, this card really is not any big deal - it doesn't really DO anything for us, except mean that we do not have to deal with or concern ourselves with waiting on USCIS for a while. However, my wife relates that, on HER forum, the receipt of this card tends to be a big deal because it's what a lot of the women are waiting for, so they can divorce their husbands. It seems the gals are very well schooled on this point - when one of them starts to complain about something, the rest tell her to be quiet until she gets her 10 year PR card, and then get divorced.

The nice thing is that once we get this card in the mail, I can put all of our immigration papers and notebooks in the safe and we will not have to worry about any of this stuff for quite a while. That's nice because I can use the space on my bookshelf for something else (:

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)I am here!!!!

Why can't you write German?

So you can only read and speak it?

I can read German better than I can write it or speak it. But it's not my native language. My native language is English. I lived in Berlin for nearly two years, but my husband always spoke English to me. I'm trying to do a little bit better... I'm even learning some Allemannische. (That's my husband's real native language.)

That's how it is for me. I read and speak it better than writing. I moved to Texas when I was 7 and my mom never really even spoke German to me after that. I learned all my German again over the past 3 years. It's funny because when we first came here, my daughter could only speak English - now she speaks German better than me! You gotta love the German kindergarten :)

What is Allemannische? My mother is from Ostfriesland and speaks plattdeutsch.

LOL, no, it looks like a first grader writing. I left Germany when I was 7 and went to American school ... so I never learned to write it. I always have problems with which words need to be capitalized.

One more thing ... here is the website. I am assuming that K1 Visa applicants don't have to do this but now I am confused. I am already so nervous that I am gonna forget paperwork or have a document missing, and I just don't wanna be confused and do something wrong. :crying:

I called the embassy since I didn't get an answer on here. If any of you come across the same thing and have the same question - you do not have to register for this online confirmation thing! Just do a simple bank transfer with the banks stamp on the receipt.

One more thing ... here is the website. I am assuming that K1 Visa applicants don't have to do this but now I am confused. I am already so nervous that I am gonna forget paperwork or have a document missing, and I just don't wanna be confused and do something wrong. :crying:

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Making the 85 Euro payment before interview / Germany
I am just trying to verify the instructions I received for making my payment to the Berlin Embassy before my K1 Visa interview on Feb. 2. On the little orange paper I received in my last packet, it states to transfer the money to the Berlin Embassy and gives me the bank info. It says to get the bank receipt with the banks original stamp on it. OK, I get that.

However, when I went to the Berlin Embassy's website to confirm the dollar/euro exchange rate and that I still need to just pay 85 Euros, I noticed that it says:

Visa Processing Fee and Application Procedures

Persons applying in Germany for a visa to travel to the United States are required to complete an online payment confirmation form in order to obtain a secure receipt for the visa processing fee.

The online payment confirmation procedure is a quick, secure and cost-effective method for visa applicants to demonstrate they have paid the visa processing fee when they visit the Consular Section in Berlin, Frankfurt or Munich for their visa interview.

Now I would really like clarification because if I did not have access to a computer and came across this site, I would NOT have known about this! So again, the consulate is contradictory and wishy-washy.

Can someone please clarify this before I hop myself to the bank and make a payment in a way that is not acceptable by the consulate?

Thank you!

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)German and American couples
What part of Germany? I came from Vilseck which is also in southern germany (bavaria)

As for cultural/customs/traditions changes ... I grew up in the US. I left back to Germany in 2002 and for me, adjusting to Germany again was a huge challenge.

Hallo everyone,

I am fairly new to VJ, and I am wondering about the other couples here who are German and American. Not wondering in a nosy way (well, ok, maybe a bit) but more just curious. I am the USC and my fiance is from southern Germany. He is fluent in English and I am...not fluent in German. I can say enough in German to have about a 10 minute conversation, but am desperately trying to learn more. Especially since my son is nearing fluency now (he's been studying it for 2 years). Language hasn't posed a problem for us since he speaks English fluently, but I was wondering if the other couples on here have a similar situation?

I was also curious if there are any customs or traditions that are new or different for the other couples?

Thanks for indulging me smile.gif

Asia: East and PacificBirth certificates - translation
Just another quick question. I just want to make sure I have everything right. Do birth certificates also need to be translated? For those on here who are in Germany or are from Germany, did you need this?

Asia: East and PacificFiancee pretty stressed..... help

Going over other peeps interviews will definitely help.
Main thing is her knowing EVERYTHING possible about you. Right down to pets names, your mothers maiden name, siblings names, kids, why you divorced etc. This will help give her confidence.
Each CO has different trips to establish you have a bonafide relationship.
Having varied and good pictures may limit what they ask as the old saying!
"A picture is worth a thousand words" holds true.
I've seen where MANY peeps mentioned the CO "liked" looking at the pics!
Same for us also.
First time around we were outright denied for lack of enough pictures.
Second time we had 40 on 10 pages with captions.
Interview only lasted 5 minutes and she flew outa there a few days later.
My wife didn't know one question the CO asked about me and she just answered ! I don't know, and he moved on.

Thanks, I liked reading this post; made me feel a little better with my own stress over the whole situation.

My fiancee has around 500 pictures of us with about 50 different family members over the 5 weeks that we spent together in Vietnam. She has enough pictures to keep them occupied for a couple of hours. :D

I'll pass this on this on to her and hope that it helps.

John

Also let her know that they may not even ask for a single thing. I was pretty disappointed because I brought so much relationship evidence to my interview with me and they didn't ask for one single thing! All they asked for in one window is the affidavit of support, police clearance for my country, bank statements, tax returns, employment letter, birth certificate .. and that's all i can remember for now. But like i said, when it came to evidence, not a single thing!

After finishing up with that "window", I sat back down and waited to be called to the next window (you go to different windows) for my "interview". The guy who interviewed me simply asked, "So, are you ready to go and get married?" I answered "Yes, I am." Then he said okay, you're approved. Mind you, I was a nervous wreck that day! I got so scared and nervous for absolutely NOTHING. Believe me, I know exactly how your fiance feels. She will feel so relieved once she gets there and sees how simple it is.

Make sure she has copies of EVERYTHING because some of the documents will be needed for AOS. I did not make copies of all my documents (i didn't know) and had to use the copy machine in the lobby which charged .25 cents per copy. I did not bring my wallet with me so a few of the others who were also getting interviewed gave me change! LOL

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresFiance Visa OR Marriage Visa?

My fiance lives in Pakistan. I met him when I was teaching English in South Korea. I became pregnant and returned home to America to have the baby. We want to get married and bring him here. I am trying to figure out the best way to do this. I am planning a trip to Pakistan in September regardless if we get married or not. We need to establish proof of our relationship if we go the fiance visa route anyway. I was wondering if marriage visa's or fiance visa's would be more likely to go through. What are the advantages and disadvantages of both?

My own personal opinion is that a fiance visa is better. With the fiance visa, you get to bring him to the US and then he is allowed to wait out the other process there. If you get married and apply, he will have to wait out the process in his country. That takes longer than the fiance visa.

Isn't a baby proof enough? LOL ... all of this proof of relationship stuff just mesmerizes me. It makes my head spin.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresLawyer or no Lawyer
LOL, never mind. I thought you were inquiring about a fiancee visa. I would definitely go that route and NO the way you plan on doing it. A friend of mine did it the way you intend and she got deported and now cannot apply for a visa. Her husband had to move to Germany and it took a while before he found a job there. I would not risk that. Get a fiancee visa -it's safer.

Sorry i misunderstood your first post. My mind isn't functioning that well today because my day has been a bit horrible.

Hi!

I know many people on this board have done the paperwork all alone but we actually hired a well-known lawyer named Jim Phair. He specializes in K-1 and K-3 Visas and he was pretty accurate and on point about everything. We decided to go with him for the reason of feeling more at ease and confidence. He told us step by step what needed to be done and in my honest opinion, he made the entire process simpler. He charges $485 but his services are well worth it. If you do a search for him on google, type in Jim Phair, immigration attorney and you will find numerous sites about him. His website is located at http://www.fianceevisas.net/

Good luck!

Hi guys, I am new to this forum and just want to get some help if you can. I am currently engaged to a US Citizen and I am in Australia. I am going to the states in July to get married and then my Fiance and I will decide whether to live in the states or move to my home country Australia.

First question: Is it easy to change status after getting married while coming in as a tourist/visitor
Second question: We have contacted a Lawyer and they do not come cheap. Is it best in this situation to have a lawyer or to go at it by ourselves.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Cheers

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAlready sponsored one green card..problems for second?

has your ex-wife applied for citizenship yet? AFAIK, if she has not yet a citizen, and if she is still living permanently in the US, then you are still responsible for her according to the I-865 affidavit of support for 10 years. Divorced or not. So your income will have to be sufficient to provide for not just your new wife, but your ex-wife as well and yourself.

Also, according to the affidavit of support, you as the sponsor are required to notify USCIS whenever you move residence. Did you notify them of your address change when you left the country?

Well, we had a 3rd person do the affidavit of support. I'm not clear on the details (her lawyer took care of things), but as I was in college, my income wasn't enough to "support" us (by government standards), so we had one of her friends do the affidavit. My income wasn't sufficient when we first started, so I am still responsible now? I would think that the 3rd party would be responsible if anything.

You let a lawyer handle everything without you having full knowledge of what was going on? LOL ... I hope you don't do that again.
