US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMinimal Tuberculosis

I was diagnosed of having a minimal tuberculosis yesterday. Whatta frustrating and disappointing day for me.. But then, it was a blessing that I have found out about it this early than later on my medical examination.

Anyways, what other test should I take in advance so I would not be in trouble when my medical examination and interview already schedules?

Thanks!
Julie

Hey!

I just noticed that you state you met on myspace. I am addicted to Myspace! LOL

I hope that you find the answer you are looking for. I have no idea what to do or needs to be done in your situation :(

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionGerman Packet 3 Question

My fiancee and I were hoping some one here might be able to help us, because we are going through the Frankfurt USA Consulate, and we always get disconnected when they transfer us. If any one could help us, we would be so appreciative.

The directions that came with the packet say that we must send in right away the filled out forms, DS-230, DS-156, DS-156 (K), and DS-157 along witha copy of her passport. Now the DS-156 (K) is what we are very confused about. It states that, first off, we need to attach things such as birth certificate, police certificate, and all the other items it says to bring to the interview. Also, at the bottom it says the consular officer will help us fill out the end. So are we supposed to mail them that form with everything attached like the insturctions say, or do we keep it, and she brings it to the interview along with the items?

The final question that we have, is do we send the checklist back to them with the first set of forms, or do we send in those forms, and then send this in at a later date? Thank you in advance.

That is the very same thing that confused me too when I saw that! My immigration lawyer told me to send the application forms but NOT the documents such as police record, affidavit of support, etc. because you will need them at the interview. I did send them the passport copies of all entry pages along with the applications.

Aren't they confusing? You figure they would revise that form to make things more clear.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAnyone else?

Good luck!

Don't worry too much, they are very nice and friendly! We were asked how we met, what my fiance did for a living, and the CO made comments about the winter in Minnesota (he was from Texas, a very nice person, maybe mid-30s). We talked about the company we both work for (we were and still are colleagues). He chatted with my fiance about his travels to Asia, while I was just standing by. After a few minutes I was relaxing quite a bit and it wasn't the least scary any more.

They looked closely at the financial stuff, and the CO took a set of tax returns (originals) from my fiance, but I brought tons of pictures and emails and boarding passes etc. which he didn't even look at. Total interview took maybe 10 minutes, but the waiting almost killed me, I was so nervous! Nobody seemed to be interviewed much longer than that, from what I saw.

If you have an early morning appointment, be prepared to wait outside in the cold. They don't let people in much earlier than 7:45, from what I recall - dress warm!

Relax, you'll be just fine!

Carla

LOL, knowing that they are nice makes it a bit more relaxing! I get nervous when I deal with rude people because then I'm trying to figure out what they're really thinking.

OK, yeah, I figured that the financial stuff would be one of the things they really look at. I'm not worried about that at all. I have my fiance's employment letter, tax papers, bank statements, pay stubs, etc.

You sound like me, LOL ... I also have tons of pictures, boarding tickets, emails, etc.

How far in advance do you think I should be out there since my interview is at 7:30?

So are the consular officers actually American? That may be why they're nice. LOL ;-p

OK, one more question and then I will stop bugging you! I just read this:

"When you have gathered all the required items from the OF-169 (or UK/85) checklist, you will sign it and send the checklist to the Consulate. Do NOT send any of the listed items.....keep them for the interview. Hang on to the DS-156 and 156K application forms. Fill them out but do NOT sign them until the interview itself, as the signatures must be witnessed by the Consular official."

I sent them the 156 application forms because my lawyer told me to ... and now I read on here that I should have been hanging on to them. Do you think that will affect anything? Im so worried about that. :(

Thank you for answering! So do you live in Minnesota?

Check out the reviews if you haven't already -

Just wondering if anyone else will be going to Frankfurt for an interview on Friday, February 2. I'm getting really nervous!

I have done a search on questions that are asked during the interview but couldn't find anything. Can you guys tell me what kind of questions they ask in general? I just wanna be prepared. I suck at job interviews when I'm hit with questions I never really thought about, and I definitely don't wanna mess this up.

Thanks!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionColombia... Doctor needs "Original" DS-230 ???
Question - if the DS-230 is in the sealed envelope which you cant even open, how are you supposed to have that form?

Looking4Wife: I guess you already took care of all of this by now. I think they are looking for a brand new original DS-230 for their own purposes and there is no relationship to the one you sent to the NVC which they apparently use for different reasons. It is funny that the one sent by the embassy is a very old form from 2004. I think they use it because it is in english and spanish. As Doug stated, apparently any version of the DS-230 is acceptable. Good luck with everything next week!

DougyCeci: Everybody has to return to the doctor and pickup the sealed envelope with the medical exam results and then take this to the interview. This envelope also includes the DS-230.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionFrankfurt Consulate: Translating German documents into English
I got two things translated. My divorce decree and my birth certificate. I had an international birth certificate but was told that when I apply for AOS in the US, the international one may not be accepted. So, I just called the Standesamt in the city i was born and requested a regular one and had it translated. So now I have both birth certificates.

As far as you translating it yourself, Im not sure.

I'm in the process of getting a K3 visa for my German wife. Does anybody have any experience whether the consulate in Frankfurt requires translations of German documents (for example, Polizeiliches Fuehrungszeugnis, etc.) to be done by professional translators, or can I simply translate the documents myself? In the past, in other dealings with US government agencies, I've always done all translations myself certifying that I am fluent in English and German (which I am) and there has never been a problem. I'm just wondering what the Frankfurt Consulate's procedure is in such matters.
Thanks.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionJust faxed off my checklist!!!
Congratulations - it shouldn't be much longer! I got my interview date mailed to me a few weeks after I sent off my checklist. I believe it was December when I sent off the checklist .... my interview was February 2, 2007. You can view my timeline to be sure.

We are filing for K1 through Vancouver and I just faxed off my checklist.

I have all the forms filled out (hopefully correct). I just got my medical results back yesterday....had a 950km drive to get them and back. The doctor says to me "everything looks good"...guess that means I don't have any communicable diseases or some form of something that isn't "allowed". That includes my twin girls as well.

Now the waiting game begins. I wait patiently for Vancouver to phone/email/mail? me my appointment time. Then I get to fly over the mountains for my quick trip there and back.

So any ideas how long it is after they receive the checklist as to when they actually book an interview??????? ANYONE?????

Hope you are all having a great day!!!

V

Haha! I got my medical exam in Germany and had to drive 5 hours to get to the hospital. That sucked!

Be thankful you're being interviewed in Vancouver! The wait won't be long. Most people faxing their checklist there get an interview about a month later. I specifically asked for one on a certain date, later than they would have given me one, to coordinate with other vacation plans.

Good luck during this process!

Carla (F)

P.S. Question? Why would you travel 950 kms to get your medical results?? Wow!

My wife is scheduled for interview June 27 in Ho Chi Minh City. The "lawyer" who prepares all the paper works there never mention about I864 being required. Is it a must in the interview process? If so. what documents are required in the I864? Thanks,

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview in German or English???

We are currently waiting for an interview date from Frankfurt. A quick question to those who have interviewed there.

Is the interview is done in English or in German?

I had my interview done on Feb 2, 2007. The lady in window 17 who checked all of my documents, spoke german to me. The man who interviewd me was American and he spoke English to me. It was very fast! The interview lasted only about 2 minutes.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionSupport and police record problem

I dont have a police clearance from Texas , only for the UK. However I do have a notarised copy of the Class C from Texas, would this be enough as I heard its actually hard to get a 'police certificate' in Texas for a person who is not present.
I was not sentenced to any jail time or anything as far as the 6 month ruling is concerned.

would this be sufficient ?

You can easily get your PC from Texas even though you are not there. I had to get mine from Texas as well and I was in Germany. All you have to do is call the Police Records section of the police department and they will tell you what information they need from you. I needed to make a written request and include all my addresses I had in the states as well as my BC, ex husband's name, etc. It cost me $7 and received it within a week.

How did you end up going to jail for just making a threat? My ex husband threatened me all the time and nothing ever happened to him. Hmm.

My fiance and I are strongly considering withdrawing our k-1 application and immigrating to Canada instead. We're at the very beginning of the consulate stage, we've received the NOA2 but we haven't yet sent any forms to the consulate. If we do decide to withdraw our application, what is the proper procedure, and what, if any, reprecussions would we face?

I agree there but my point is that they won't deny her a visa or whatever just because of a cold/flu. He asked "I've heard the visa can be denied if the person has some sort of disease but would this also apply to a simple cold or flu?" so I said not because of a cold or flu. I have no clue how they treat TB cases or whatever and he did not say anything about TB - I'm sure he knows what they would do if it did turn out to be TB. I am only talking about his question regarding if it turns out to be just a cold or flu.

Will a cold or flu affect her medical exam in any way, shape or form? What I mean is--would this affect her medical exam or would she be fine?

Magnolia31 - The OP question was for Manila SLEC medical. They are concerned with TB there, so a cough can be a problem with them.

Could be worse if her period starts now!
Unless you want to wait a couple more months don't postpone the medical.

Worst that can happen is if anything shows up on the CXR they will require a 3 day sputum check. "Normally" people still get cleared in time for the interview.

Hypothyroidism won't cause any problems. Only contagious diseases and mental problems will cause problems being passed.

I know it's to late for you but any others out there pay attention and have your medicals at least 2 weeks early if not more.
I had my wife have hers almost 2 months prior.
Also had her get CXR for TB . Test for Hepa B a year before.
Yeah sounds like overkill but if TB or Hepa b is detected they can be treated and won't have a 6+ month delay after the medical to be stable.

Depending on life styles. It's a good idea for the petitioner and beneficiary to have HIV test also as soon as it looks like the LDR is going to lead to marriage.
May as well find out and not waste the time going thru the immigration process only to be denied.

Does the US embassy allow her to go to a different doctor?

If you can, get her to a different doctor, get the DS-3025 that she is entitled to get from the examing doctor, and consider a formal complaint about the current doctor *after* visa is in hand. At least, that is my opinion -- and probably not an expert opinion at that.

Magnolia,
The doctors in the foreign country are panel physicians and the doctors in the US civil surgeons. So his fiancee is not seeing a CS.
The OP mistakenly said VACCINES in his post but meant antibiotic injections as treatment for the syphilis.

It is embassy specific if regular vaccines are needed or not. The posts have their own requirements and do not always go by
"the book ". So, in some 3. world countries vaccines ARE required before they will interview or will not get an interview. Period.
You don't know where there has been a recent outbreak or what the conditions are, especially in African countries.
So let us not rigidly insist that all panel physicians who give vaccines are corrupt. Again, this is embassy specific.

How long have you been with your fiance? I am not trying to stir up anything BUT like I said in my past post, if she is at a latent stage it is no longer contagious. A few years have to go by in order to get to this stage so do the math. I also think that if you had syphillis, you would know.

Have you had any skin lesions/rashes/etc? Swollen glands, fevers, etc.?

I wasn't really sure about the medical terms. In fact I'm still confused. I just know that I need to get checked for siphylis too because I'm the first and only man to be intimate with my fiancee. Which means I passed it to her, right? Since it's an STD.
So, if I understand, you're saying the medical condition could be the reason for the AP?
Why couldn't they just tell me that? There's nothing wrong with keeping the applicant informed.
I'm sorry you're going through the AP too. It's only been a week for me. I can imagine how hard it is to be "played" around with for 8 months.

Sorry for the numerous posts but I just re-read your post. Since you said the DR told her it is NOT contagious, then it can only be benign LATE syphillis. This is the stage where it is no longer contagious. Some patients develop so-called benign late syphilis, which begins between three and 10 years after infection. I'm not a DR but I work in the medical field and i am familiar with diseases/illnesses. Since he said this is not contagious and it has got to be this. In any event, I hope it gets cleared up soon.

Magnolia31FemaleGermany2007-08-27 22:34:00
US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWere we deined the visa?
If she was told it was "benign skin syphillis", this can only mean secondary infection. Syphillis goes through 4 stages and the first stage is the primary stage. The primary stage is the stage of the organism's entry into the body. Secondary syphilis is a systemic infection marked by the eruption of skin rashes and ulcers in the mucous membranes. Since it causes the skin rashes/lesions/etc., some people refer to it as skin syphillis and in her case, benign skin syphillis. I am sorry to hear this since it is a contagious disease UNLESS it is in its latent stage. Once it is in its third stage it is no longer contagious. Have you had yourself checked?

Are you sure they said benign skin syphyllis or benign late syphillis?

Gosh, sorry. sad.gif

You really should have figured out what you were doing before you filed anything. You're here in the USA. What makes you think you need a visa? Visas are used to enter a country. What you need is legal resident status. This is achieved by filing an I-130 and I-485 together as well as the supporting documentation.

The process is very confusing and hard to understand - we did what we thought was right. Considering how many possibilities there are and how uninformative the USCIS site is I'd say we did pretty well understand what we thought was the right procedure.

Given the fact that I think you're right - how would you go about rectifying this and fixing the situation?

Don't feel bad if you did something wrong. It IS confusing and unclear. Alot of things seem to be contradictory too.

CanadaFailed Medical??

Has anyone failed a medical, thus not being able to get their visa?

If so (and you don't mind sharing the story), can you tell us why you failed? was it disease related? physical pain/disablement? psychological?

thanks!

I did not fail and I have polycystic ovarian disease, rheumatism in my knees, and anxiety disorder. I passed my exam but had an unpleasant time at the POE in Chicago because of it. I was pulled to the side and waited for about 20 minutes for someone from the CDC to talk to me. Very embarrassing.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWhat if I don't receive my cond. green card in the mail?

Okay don't chew my head of :D I looked in the guides and FAQs but haven't found an answer.
We had just moved when we submitted the additional info that immigration wanted before they could approve my AOS. Of course we filed the change of address form right away. But we are worried that they might have not registered that before they mailed out the notice.

What happens if we don't receive the notice/green card in our mail?

I was told that if i did not receive my GC, I need to make an Infopass appointment. I got mine today though. Maybe there are other answers but this is what my AO told me during my interview.

I just re-read your post again to refresh my memory. I absolutely can't believe that they won't help get your case expedited. I think you should call that military hotline that someone else just posted on here. Seriously, call them because this is BS!

Like you said, you are your husband's dependent - where do they expect you to live when he leaves? He is responsible for you. They need to get that visa moving along before it's time to go. If they can't do that, then they need to come up with some sort of military clause where the VISA continues processing even though you have to leave with your husband to another country on orders. They have a freaking US consulate in Italy so why can't you finish the process out there?

Ugh .. I'm getting mad LOL. Call the hotline!

Hi! Im traveling late November for Italy because my husband's in the Navy so I should come with him because I'm his dependent. He has his orders already and we should stay there for 3 years. We just got married last May and still in the process of filing AOS. Hopefully I could get my GC after 3 mos without any delays and RFE's.

My questions are,

1.) can I come with him and stay in Italy with my temp green card only?

2.) should I do some paper works also? What else should I do and how do I do it?

3.) Would I be still entitled for Removal of Conditions after 2 years of my GC's expiration date with me living outside US on that period?

I would be entering Italy with a "No-Fee Passport" which will be provided by the Military, so no problem with that, my concern would most likely focus on how can I go back to US after my husband's duty and get a renewed Green Card afterwards.

I hope you guys can help me with whatever knowldge you have, even in the littlest way I would very much appreciate it. Thanks!

Now I am not sure about circumstances or whatever, but if that immigration officer told you that you can not expedite a visa application in general, he/she lied to you and I am living proof. My husband got his orders to go to Iraq back around June or so (i suck at remembering exact dates - you can find it on here LOL). I hadn't heard anything about the visa application and hadn't received anything at all from USCIS, which made me panic and worry. We made an Infopass appointment right away (June 12th) and we found out our case would be getting expedited. We had to speak with a Supervisor in the adjudication section and she said she'd get my case file immediately so it can start being processed. From that point on, they processed everything really fast. My biometrics appt. was July 5th and the interview was I believe, on July 11th. I received my GC about 2 weeks or so after that. They said that if my husband would have had to leave before August, my case would have moved along even faster.

Like I said, I do not know in what instances they consider that expediting a case is important, but i do know that it does happen.

Oh, we filled out no extra forms and did not have to pay any extra fees either.

I didn't realize I was missing a lot of good information here...my bad...email notification did not work...

By the way, thanks HJ for your detailed reply on my post, you are a great help and you too Magnolia. My husband and I just finished an Infopass appointment yesterday, and boy, seems that the immigration officer was not helpful enough.

I still have questions:

1) How can I expedite my AOS? what form should I use? Fees? The immigration officer told us that there's no way of doing that.

2) And once in Italy, where should we apply for Sojourners Permit for the length of my stay?

3) How do you request a delay for the I-751 interview? Is it still valid if you delayed it for 1year? I would be returning in the US not until after the 3-year contract in Italy.

We would be staying in Sigonella, Sicily.

Since you've done these things, I think we should get in touch a lot. Please update me on things that I should do next and what problems might I encounter. I hope I'm not bothering you much. Thanks a lot!

That is just so weird to me. You would know far better than i would. And maybe it depends on the country you are from. My brother and his wife are both American. He is in the army. Whenever he got stationed somewhere, she goes with him and needs no type of visa - just the sofa/sopha stamp or however you spell it LOL.

Magnolia31,

My wife is from Thailand and was required to travel on her Thai passport.

The Italian Visa was required based on info from the passport agent at Hickam AFB in Hawaii. Also, we looked the Italian Consulate website it led me to believe we needed the visa for Italy.

I've never heard of a SOPHA or SOFA (Status of forces Agreement) stamp for the passports, we don't have one. Each country has a different SOFA, one does not fit all.

Most of Europe is open and once you are legally in a country (in our situation, the Sojourner's Permit gives my wife open travel within the Schengen countries) you can travel to where you want for the most part. Exception for my wife was the UK, she needed a Visa.

I work at NATO and it really did nothing to make anything easier in getting the required documents to travel to Italy.

You should get a Sopha stamp in your passport. Anyhow, I think the best thing to do is go to JAG and see what they say.

Yhanie,
My wife and I went through the same situation you are faced with. We were in Hawaii and had orders to Naples Italy. I'll try to answer your specific questions the best I can.

1. If you have a Permanent Resident Card (Conditional) you can travel to Italy once you get an Italian Visa (the cost was about $65). Once you arrive in Italy you'll need to apply for the Sojourner's Permit for the length of your stay in Italy.

2. If you don't have the GC yet, I would recommend as soon as your husband has the Military Orders with your name on them you submit a request to expedite the AOS request. It worked for us with no problems. We filed the AOS Expedite request in May 05 and the GC was approved in Sept 05.

3. Yes, no problem filling for the Removal of Conditions if you are outside of the US, just make sure you file a Change of Address and then file the I-751 at the right time. I'm up late tonight putting together my wife's I-751. We are headed to the US Consulate in Naples for finger prints tomorrow so we don't have to have a Biometrics appointment.

When I asked about how the interview works since we live outside the US, I was told we could request a delay until we return to the US on a Permanent basis with no problems.

4. Not sure about the "No fee Passport" for non-us citizens, we did not get one and in my opinion you don't need it. It will not entitle you to travel within Europe unless you are on official military orders. I would suggest just getting the Italian Visa stamp in your passport and the Sojourner's permit after you arrive.

Hope this helps a little, if you have anymore questions, please ask. Where in Italy are you headed?

Take care,
HJ

Why did your wife have to file for an Italian visa? Is this an Italy thing or what? Countries that are under the NATO agreement should allow dependents to come along with you as long as they are on your orders. This sounds weird to me but since you've been in the situation, you'd know better than me. I just know that wives traveling with their husbands to Spain and Germany do not need to get a visa for that country.

And I agree with getting things expedited. We had our infopass appt. June 12 to get our case expedited since my husband leaves for Iraq in August. I just had my interview and will get my GC in a few weeks.

Oh gosh, I wish I had advice for you. My ex husband got stationed in Germany in 1994. I went with him and we returned in 1997. When we went through the POE, they just asked for his orders and we were cleared.

I am just not sure how this works with the conditional visas though. I hope someone can help you and give you some easy answers.

Well, I have tried all that I can for the past 2 1/2 months. My concern is my kids. I haven't gotten into ALL details - the disturbing ones, but my gut feeling tells me that we need to get away from him. I also can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped. I do not believe in leaving a person when they are down - hell, he didn't leave me in my year of depression, but the difference is that I got myself some help - he refuses.

I really don't know what to do ... I'm clueless.

I can't contact anyone at any base. He was in the reserves and since he is now back, he has been released from his unit in Massachusetts. He's not assigned to any unit at the moment.

Until I can figure out what the heck to do with all this, I'm just gonna go see a counselor for myself. Maybe they can teach me how to deal with this. If worse comes to worse, I will just have to file for divorce and hope for the best. I didn't know that you have to be divorced in order to file for early removal.

Anyhow, thanks.

Like jomo's girl said ---you can only file before the 90 day time frame if you are divorced. Otherwise, you need to wait until the 90 days before your conditional GC expires to file with your husband.

Yes, I have considered that he needs counseling. I brought that up ... as well as marriage counseling. However, there is only so much a person can take - especially from a person who won't acknowledge that the other person is unhappy and not willing to fix it. I'm also tired of being controlled. I haven't been able to have a freaking life since he's been back. I'm not allowed to work or do anything. This is sick. he is a very narcissistic person and it's quite scary.

My 7-year-old is now afraid of him and my 4-month-old is just ignored by him 24/7.

Post-traumatic stress or not, I'm not willing to stay with someone who won't commit to "trying" to make a change. I'm sick of sleeping alone, sick of raising my kids alone, sick of everything being done alone.

Gosh, I haven't posted on VJ in forever but I'm back again with a question!

How does one do an early removal of conditions? Under what circumstances can this be done?

I received my GC in July of last year. My husband went to Iraq in August of last year. He has been back since May and he is a stranger to me. He is withdrawn, anti-social and is just plain old cold and unemotional. Since he's been back, he does nothing but watch TV until 5am, read books, etc. It's gotten so bad that he now sleeps on the couch. We have a now 4 month old baby and he pays no attention to her. I have tried talking to him to get him to realize there is a problem but he flies into a rage - then I get accused of being emotional and he ignores me for 1-2 weeks. I can NOT go on like this! I'm getting physically ill from this and I just feel nothing will change. My children are suffering and I wanna get out of this marriage.

I thought about going back to Germany. However, he will not sign the paperwork granting permission for my daughter's passport and there is no way I'm leaving her behind! I guess I am stuck here. So now I am looking into getting the early removal of conditions but have no clue where or how to find out about the proper steps I need to take.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No difference. You will get an appointment letter, go to the same location (probably), fill out the form (I have no idea why, they already have all the info), left hand, right hand, left hand fingers, right hand fingers, sign here, sit there, look at the camera, done!

OK, thanks a lot! This process sure seems easier than I thought it would be. I'm so glad the fee is not $1,000 either since my husband just got laid off and may not have a job until March. good.gif
