K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNotary?

Which documents HAVE to be notorized?

Thanks

Read the guides... plus you need to tell us what part of the process your at... I-129F or ??? But follow the guides..that is what they are there for....
But we also will help...

i haven't started my process yet, sometimes in march i'll start and yes, i will be filing for I-129F
i read the QA, but i am just making sure cause so many things confuse me
if all of the papers will be notorized, will it be a problem? better safe than sorry

Hmm, hopefully I can remember what I got notarized but I remember getting all my translated paperwork notarized including my birth certificate and divorce papers. My fiance got the Affidavit of support notarized. The affidavit of support will have to be filled out by you so you will be responsible for getting it notarized. ;-) I hope I didn't miss anything. Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFiance's visit

I have already applied for the I-129F. Now I am wondering if it is possible to bring my fiance to the US as a tourist to stay here until our visa comes through...can he transfer and do the interview in the US without going back?
Thanks.

There is no way that they will let him do the interview in the US.

I was actually going to go to the states in December once I got my interview date. Since I wouldn't exceed the 90 days, I was gonna fly here for the interview and then go back. I changed my mind though because i did not want to risk anything - plus, with my daughter being in kindergarten and loving it, I didn't wanna take her to the US in the spur of the moment.

If I were you, I wouldn't risk it. If your fiance does come and visit you, tell him not to tell customs that when he enters the POE ... if he does, they will just send him back home.

My friend wasted a plane ticket last year when she went to see her boyfriend. She told the customs officer that she was going to see him and they said NOPE! They are worried that people will go and get marrie din the states and then try to apply for a visa there.

So ... don't take a chance! Just wait it out. It doesn't always take long. We applied around July and I have my interview date next week. Sometimes the process goes even faster. It took my friend 4 months to get everything.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresfrustrating situation...can anyone help?

I feel for you Sherry and I know what you are going through. I am 7 months pregnant and anxiously awaiting the arrival of my fiance - if you think Pakistan is difficult, my fiance is Iraqi. We have been going through the Visa process for over a year now but are in the final stages. There is typically not much difference between the fiance (K-1) or Spouse (K-3) as far as waiting times are concerned - but I have noticed the I-129F (the fiance petition) being approved through the service centers here int he U.S. more quickly then the I-130 (spouse petition). My petition was approved here in the U.S. and the case was sent to the U.S. embassy in Amman, Jordan in less than two months. It's waiting for the Visa interview and then the administrative processing after the interview that is the time consuming part of the process.

The fact that he has a daughter here will most likely do nothing to expedite the process. I am pregnant and due March 16th and the powers that be seem to care less whether or not my fiance makes it before his daughter is born. The fact that he has a daughter here though will help when it comes to approval of the petition. It is obvious that you two have a real relationship and are not marrying solely for immigration purposes - so be sure to provide as much proof as possible that he is the father of your daughter - I'm sure you haven't had a paternity test but do the best you can. Even pictures of the three of you together will be beneficial. Maybe go over for a visit, keep all records (plane tickets, hotel receipts, photos, etc...) then file the petition when you return.

Hope I was able to answer at least some of your quandries...keep your chin up....lots of people here have been through it or are going through what you are dealing with now - so remember you are not alone.

Good Luck!

-Mandy

I think the fiance visa is faster. We were told that if we did the regular visa, it could take up to 18 months. That's exactly how long it took for me to get a permanent resident card renewal back in 1997. Until 97, I still had my old card which had my pic from when I was 7 LOL.

Incase you are confused LOL, I WAS a permanent resident from 1983-2002. My mistake was that I did NOT know that if you leave the country for more than a year, you can't come back. I didn't know anything about a re-entry permit. Sooo, I now have to do everything all over again.

Anyhow, I just think the K1 is much faster. My friend got hers in 4 months.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresRound trip ticket required for entry with a K1?

Lena is in Russia and had her embassy interview last Tuesday in Moscow. They told her that she is approved and to expect her visa soon. It is currently on the way to her via DHL (it's showing in their tracking system) as of this posting.

She visited a local travel agency today to book her tickets to come here, but the agent refused to sell her tickets based on the following reasons:

1) Claims that she needs to see Lena's actual passport (her local passport - essentially a government issued ID - was not good enough apparently)
2) Claims that she needs to have the Visa #
3) Claims that Lena needs to buy a round-trip ticket regardless of the visa type

Is this agent crazy, or is there any legitimacy to her claims? I know that I could book this ticket on Expedia.com - it'd cost about $100 more after all of the courier costs to expedite getting it to Lena, but they wouldn't stop me from buying her a ticket... but after these claims from the travel agent, I'm concerned about the claim about needing a round-trip ticket. She would be flying in via Aeroflot to NYC and then taking a local Delta flight to get to Tampa if we get the tickets we want. Anyone have any ideas about who's 'rules' these are and who I have to call to get confirmation or denial of this?

Thanks!

No one told me that and I think that agent is purely crazy! I know you have found a ticket on Expedia but have you ever heard of American Travel? Their website is:

http://www.flyusave.com

When my brother was still in the army, we booked his tickets for Christmas through these people and we paid $400 roundtrip for him to fly to germany from NJ. My fiance uses it every time he comes to Germany too.

Oh, and a bit of advice from someone who's mom was a travel agent, a roundtrip ticket is usually cheaper for some reason.

When I left the US in 2002, I looked for a one way ticket which all turned out to be over $1,000. I checked into roundtrip tickets and I ended up paying only $600.

Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAlready here

Marriage/adjustment in USA

If your fiance/fiancee came to the US on a tourist visa with the intent of immigration and marriage, and you are not yet married, then he/she should return to his/her home abroad, and the K-1 visa should be filed (using an I-129f) instead of the I-130 to avoid a denial, deportation, or even being banned from re-entry to the US.

If you are already married, and your spouse came to the US on a tourist visa with the intent of immigration and marriage, then he/she should return to his/her home abroad, and the I-130 (or along with an I-129f for a K-3 Visa) should be filed with the relative outside of the U.S. to avoid denial, deportation, or even being banned from re-entry to the US.

The above conditions are serious and can result in the separation of families for many years if not taken seriously.

Key part to this option is.. .. IF SHE ENTERED in the USA with NO INTENTIONS ... and you decided to marry she can remain while she is awaiting the adjustment.

If SHE CAME HERE WITH INTENT on marriage... you can still marry her here but she will need to return to her country and await the process of a K3.
or
she return to her country with no marriage and you file a K1.

Looks to me that if you wish her to remain here... there was no intent on marriage.. and you could marry here here and file the adjustment..
I am no lawyer.. only me.. so just information I have gleened while here on VJ..

You may wish to do a search on Information on marriage on tourist visa.. .. many different people have asked similar questions.. it may be beneficial... some of them are located in the Adjustment of status thread...

Best of luck.. and congratulations to you both

Hello! :-)

Just a question - how do you prove that there was no intent to marry ... and how do they prove that you did indeed have intent to marry?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIf You Are Denied Entry at POE

I would love to know what prrof of ties they asked for and why they found it inadequate? Or was it solely because of the so-called overstay?

I also wonder if age makes a difference in their decisions? I met this Brit in the Philly airport who comes over on the VWP every other month, staying for a month at a time and has done so for years without incident (she stays with her fiance)- she was in her late 40's. I wonder if they think you're less likely to stay illegally if you're older?

One more for Tim'sDaisy - will you guys require a waiver for the overstay? I've heard mixed answers on this when the country involved is on the VWP.

Never mind. I now saw your other post about when he was last there. ;-)

I find this stuff so freaking ridiculous. My daughter is a US citizen so if I took her to see her father who she hasn't seen since she was 2, they could deny me entry? That's just horse poop.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIf You Are Denied Entry at POE

At this point in time Im worried about everything. Its not that I think he will be turned away but I like to be prepared for the worst.. You know murphy's law. If anything can go wrong it will. As far as me going over there we have many reasons. The biggest one is I have a 4 year old son from my first marriage who I share joint custody with my ex husband, I have him Sat-Tues my ex has him Wed-Fri. Every moment I have with my son is special to me and even those 3 days apart I have already kills me. I could never leave my son for weeks and go to another country even if it is to see the man I love, I love my son more and because of the agreement and the days we split taking him with me is not an option. Other smaller things include my job, my home, and the fact im scared to death of airplanes. All in all even with the K1 pending its easier for us for him to come here.

You sound like me. I worry about everything but I have anxiety disorder. I always worry about the worst ... even if there is no reason to.

When is the last time he came to the states?

My friend visits her boyfriend in Atlanta all the time. When she goes through customs, she tells them she is visiting her cousin. She told me that if you say you are visiting your boyfriend/girlfriend, they will turn you around.

Oh, Im scared of airplanes too. I usually take Dramamine to relieve the anxiety and sickness. I had a bad experience on an airplane in 1994 and ever since then, flying scares me.

I dont think an anxiety disorder would hurt you here. I think they are looking for those that are more likely to be a threat to themselves or others. An anxiety disorder doesn't fall into that category. Relax and try not to worry...it will be fine.

Yeah. I was thinking that they are perhaps looking for people who are schizophrenic or may have MPD. Being that I have anxiety disorder, I am now worrying about this. LOL

Thanks for the reply! :)

I think if it were a problem the doctor at the physical would have told you. Even then, it's generally easy to fix by getting a note from your psychiatrist or doctor that says you aren't a threat to yourself or others. But it sounds like you passed just fine.

Really? Ok, that gives me some sort of comfort. He didn't tell me anything about it. I have never heard of anyone with anxiety being a threat to themselves or anyone else. Thanks for the reply!

I know, I know, I have been asking so many questions but since my interview is getting closer and closer, I am just freaking out a bit more by the day.

For those who already have their K1 Visas approved, do any of you have anxiety disorder? I have had anxiety disorder since I was 7 and am on medication for it. I'm not harmful or anything like that .. all that happens is that I get nervous and feel sick to my stomach if I'm in a situation that makes me nervous. Basically, I get a panic attack. However, since I am on medication, I really don't get them anymore. I mentioned my anxiety disorder at my medical exam and it was written down.

What worries me is that on the USCIS website they state that if you have a mental disorder you may be denied a visa. I am worried that they are going to have a problem with the fact that I have anxiety issues.

Thanx,

Sandra

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresA few questions..

First of all can i apologise if someone has already asked these questions - ive searched and couldnt find the answers myself!

1) For the evidence of meeting within 2 years - would the following be enough? - Photocopy of my passport stamps, Photocopies of my boarding cards, Photographs of us together at christmas?

2) The I-129f and G-325A forms seem to ask for the same information - Do i fully complete all of them? even if they are repeated?

3) Employment History - As I am only 19, I have not undertaken any full-time work, however i have had many part-time jobs and also worked over at disney last summer - any suggestions on how i write these on the form? Im guessing i will need to use an extra sheet and note this on the form?

I think thats it for now.. Thankyou for your help in advance!

Do you also have letters and emails? If so, be sure to include those. Include as much as you can!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMy VISA got approved!

I had my interview in Frankfurt yesterday and my visa got approved! I was told I would have it in the mail within a week. We just got my plane tickets and I am flying out on March 2!

I added my review because I wanted to share my positive experience at this consulate. If anyone is nervous or worried, please read my review!

Magnolia,

CONGRATULATIONS!!! How long did it take from the time you applyed from the time you applied for your visa in Frankfurt to the time you had your interview? What type of questions did they ask?

Thanks for sharing.

OK. I have a hard time remembering the dates because our lawyer and my fiancee basically did everything. I didn't keep up with dates exactly because all the waiting around discouraged me. The petition got sent off in May some time. In July my fiancee received the petition approval. OK, then ... in December I received my appointment date for Feb. 2

As for the questions asked during the interview - believe it or not, they didn't ask me one single thing! I had all my relationship prrof in my hand and he did not wanna see any of it. I'm not sure why they do this with some people.

I also had a few things in my favor and not sure if it counted or not, but my daughter is an American citizen - so is my brother and my stepdad who I still have a relationship with.

Congrats!!!
It's always happy to hear visas approval.

Thank you! It's a good feeling :-)

Congratulations!! (F) Thank you for the review I have my interview in 1 1/2 weeks and I'm already nervous.

Don't be! I was really nervous too but it's really not bad. Just make sure you have all of your papers together. During my interview, the stuff they really paid the most attention to was the affidavit of support with supporting documents. My interview really wasn't an interview at all because they did not ask me anything! If you get there early, you will be out of there really fast! Good luck to you - let me know how it goes.

Why are all branches of service not the same? My husband is in the ARMY and he never had to do any of this. The only thing that happened recently was that they did an investigation before he left for Iraq - this was for his top security clearance though. They wanted to make sure that there would be nothing in our background which could be used against him to blackmail him with if he were to become a hostage or whatever.

How strange! I have no idea how to answer your question except for that if the Navy wants this done by a military doctor, well then they need to tell you where at.

Does the military publish the information you are referring to?

What the Marines and Marine Corps Want
Before Illustrator Draftsman 1st Class Ronald Hill married his wife, a native of Japan, he had to obtain the official Secretary of the Marines instruction and a "Request for Authorization to Marry." The instruction, provided by his commanding officer in the Pacific, is a checklist of information, policies, and procedures regarding marriage to a foreign national.

Though the instruction and forms Hill obtained were specific to his command, Sailors and Marines deployed anywhere can get similar information - each command will provide its own written instructions.

Marines typically follow the same process as Sailors. First, they must submit to their company officer or officer in charge a request for approval of marriage. From that point, each Marine command may have different provisions that must be met.

For example, according to the Commander, Marine Corps Bases, Japan, once a Marine makes a marriage request, he or she must appear in person at the nearest Legal Service Support Section to obtain an Affidavit of Competency to Marry. And according to the Marine Corps command in Japan, the applicant must translate the Affidavit of Competency to Marry into Japanese. Applicants marrying Japanese nationals must get a blank form of notification of marriage (called Konin Todoke) from City Hall and complete it in Japanese.

Two witnesses over the age of 20 (of any nationality) must sign and witness the Japanese forms, and then the couple must get a marriage certificate that includes an English translation.

Other provisions within various Marine Corps commands include certain age requirements, filing applications for immigration visas, providing tax identification numbers, obtaining physical exams for both individuals, and attending a Marine Corps premarital seminar.

Sailors might not have to attend a premarital seminar, but Marines chaplains and certain commanders will suggest it before a couple marries.

For Sailors, the basic marriage form is a one-page special request chit that requires the couple's names, addresses, places of birth, the Sailor's rank, and whether the Sailor has been married before.

Cmdr. Ann Delaney, deputy assistant Judge Advocate General for Legal Assistance in Washington, D.C., says there are other things to consider within the Marines instruction (SECNAVINST 5510.30A) before marrying a foreign national.

According to the instruction, "If you hold a security clearance, marriage to a foreign national could jeopardize that clearance until a determination is made regarding the security risk that is presented, depending on which country your prospective spouse is from. A security risk may exist when an individual's immediate family, including cohabitants and other persons to whom the individual is bound by affection or obligation, are not citizens of the United States.

"Having a financial interest in a foreign country may also present a security risk."

The Marines's Military Personnel Manual (MILPERSMAN 5352-030) also includes financial concerns that must be addressed. Sailors will often need to prove financial ability to prevent the spouse from becoming a public charge and get a notarized written consent from the parents or legal guardian of either party if under the legal age for marriage in the state, territory, or country in which the marriage is to take place.

DM1 Hill, now serving on the flagship USS Blue Ridge, (http://www.blueridge.Marines.mil/) has been married to his Japanese wife for two years now. He says that for them the Marines's marriage approval process really didn't take very long.

"In the military, any time you request something, there's a normal process time of three days," Hill explains. "The actual request letter falls under the same time requirements. The process becomes lengthy when you're waiting for blood test and physical exam results.

"That's because the blood tests are sent stateside unless you pay to have them done at a Japanese hospital," Hill adds. "And the Commander, Naval Forces Japan, will only accept the results from one hospital in this area. The process only took six weeks, which in my opinion was not long at all."

Immigrant Status
Because Hill's wife and their two children remained in Japan after their marriage, there was no need for her to obtain a U.S. visa before they wed. But if a marriage between an American and a foreign national is performed in the United States, or the spouse-to-be plans to live in the States after marriage, he or she is required to get a visa before entering the country.

The process to get a visa may require more time for some couples. According to Russ Bergeron, chief press officer for the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) in Washington, D.C., a Sailor must get an INS petition for his or her betrothed to immigrate to the United States. The individual can apply for either a fiance or immigrant visa.

"Sailors must be aware that just because you've married someone, it doesn't give them automatic immigration status," Bergeron says. "There is a process you have to go through. So it's not something you can do at the last minute."

He further explains that a couple should be prepared to wait three to six months from the time they get their visa application until approval to immigrate is given. Once the initial petition to marry is completed, the Sailor will go to a U.S. embassy or consulate to get a visa application for his or her spouse-to-be.

Bergeron says that if the marriage were to be performed in the United States, the couple would need to prepare a fiance visa, which allows an individual to remain the country for 90 days, during which time the marriage must take place. Otherwise, the visa will expire and the fiance will have to return to their country. Once a couple is married, they will then petition the INS for a change in immigration status and file for a legal immigrant visa so the spouse can remain in the country.

If a couple chooses to marry in a foreign country, they still have to apply for a U.S. visa before they can enter the United States as husband and wife. Bergeron says that the INS and State Department both make it their duty to watch out for fraudulent marriages, so a couple must be prepared to prove that they have a bona fide relationship.

He suggests that if a Sailor has an ongoing relationship with a foreign national and hopes to later have that individual enter the United States, it's a good idea to keep letters, e-mail, and airline tickets to document their relationship.

There are situations in which individuals are denied visas - for example, when individuals have a criminal backgrounds or have a communicable disease such as HIV/AIDS or tuberculosis.

And Bergeron says that, although no new policies have been issued since September 11, 2001, there is much more scrutiny and a heightened sense of security, which means that all forms and visa requests are even more closely examined than before the tragedy.

Preparing the Paperwork
The INS provides further information about immigrant visas and paperwork, and also provides links to actual forms to download.

The U.S. State Department provides information about policies of other countries, getting visas, and required fees. Some countries require little with regard to approval for marriage, while others require an American to obtain local approval that might even occur on a tribal level. The Travel Warnings / Consular Info Sheets (http://www.travel.state.gov/travel_warnings.html) section gives further information about other nations and travel safety issues.

For Ronald Hill and his Japanese-born wife, little paperwork was required from her government.

"Actually, none of the items she needed to provide from the Japanese government posed a problem," Hill says. All she had to provide was her family register, or Koseki Tohon."

But on the local level in Japan, Hill did have to answer some questions regarding his intentions.

"I think the concerns were that I wouldn't go through with the marriage," he says. "The Japanese hear a lot of rumors about American military men that make the older Japanese community skeptical. There's also the concern of how well their daughter will adapt to life in America."

Dependent Eligibility
All the officials interviewed say there's really nothing that can prevent a couple from being married. But when it comes to the military, if a Sailor doesn't get the special request chit for marriage, he or she may find that the new spouse will not be eligible for military benefits.

"Without the paperwork, where DEERS (Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System) is concerned, it might take much longer for the spouse to obtain benefits," says Delaney.

And according to DEERS, something as simple as a home address being outdated or not included on a form could be enough to deny health benefits to a couple, so do keep DEERS updated to reflect new information.

After the wedding, the Marines also will define the Sailor's spouse as a Command-Sponsored Dependent, an Acquired Dependent, or a Noncommand-Sponsored Dependent.

Command-Sponsored Dependent - A dependent who is entitled to travel to overseas commands at government expense and is endorsed by the appropriate military commander to be present in a dependent's status. Command-sponsored families have full access to post and base exchanges, commissary, medical care, schools, and other facilities. They are authorized to live in government housing or, if that's not available, to receive financial assistance with their rent.

Acquired Dependent - A dependent acquired via marriage, birth, adoption, etc., while serving a restricted or unaccompanied tour. Acquired dependents are entitled to transportation from port of entry to new permanent duty station.

Noncommand-Sponsored Dependent - Also called "hardship" or "remote" tours, the family members do not accompany the Sailor on this tour.

Certain marriage instructions provided by the Marines also suggest that Sailors who choose to "bypass the requirements will be denied command sponsorship of their family member until such time as certain requirements of this instruction are met."

Also, if a Sailor married to a foreign national refuses or fails to provide for entry of family members into the United States or territory of residence, the family members will not be granted logistical support from the command.

In addition to the websites listed above, many of the Marines's Fleet and Family Support Centers (FFSC) provide information on marriage to a foreign national and information about certain cultures and customs. And for a foreign-born husband or wife, the FFSC also provides help in adapting to their new lives in the United States, as well as to their roles as military spouses.

I found this?

If the Navy has some kind of requirement, that would be completely separate from USCIS's requirements.

If you are asking about the medical examination for him, assuming he's Mexican, he can only go to the clinics in Ciudad Juarez. All of the information is clearly available on their website.

It looks like if you are in the military each command can write their own rules?

Thanks for everything again. The instruction i'm referring to is COMNAVREGSM INSTRUCTION 1752.1 and states that spouse must complete a physical examination by a medical officer of the U.S armed forces (impossible he is in Mexico) or by a physician approved by the U.S consular service. Is Ciudad Juarez the only place to get an examination?? How about Tijuana Baja California?? Thanks

Seems to me that he mas making a joke and again on VJ, people are taking things the wrong way. I really hate when that happens.

I have an american brother who wears his pants backwards, sagging down off his butt with his boxers showing. he also wears a grill in his mouth. You'd never think that he is a food inspector and also works as a cook in the army. However, i always tease him and tell him he looks like a thug or gangster. I grew up in El paso, TX and gang members did wear their clothes like that.

So, the OP I believe, was just being funny. Lighten up.

I am sooo confused....thankyou for your warnings about the embassy and all....but, my husband IS from Zarqa and I have spent alot of time there and i don't know if ''street ghangster'' ever came to mind there. The people in that city are poorer than the ones in Amman, but i don't believe that makes them a ghangster...also, i don't think a tattoo makes someone suspicious or a ghangster???? I am just really confused about ur post. Are you from Jordan???

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionOMG, somebody HELP!

Nothing to worry about, just get the letter(s) sent off. Could you fill in a timeline with your dates? It'd be helpful... if you click on 'my assistant' on the top right-ish, then 'edit/add my timeline', you can enter all the relevant info. It'll help other people going through the process. Good luck at the interview! :)

Thank you! I will try to fill out the timeline as best as possible. I honestly don't remember all the dates too well but I will backtrack and fill it in as I get the info. All I remember is filing in April, getting the approval letter in July, and getting my interview date in December. I kinda stopped keeping track because keeping track reminded me of how long everything was taking. Sadly, there was a time in September last year where I almost gave up on the fiance visa due to the long wait. ~sigh~

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionOMG, somebody HELP!

Somebody help me! I have my interview in Frankfurt on February 2nd. I received a letter form the consulate today which has me afwully confused and nervous! Here is what it says:

Dear Cockrell, Sandra:

Our records show that you are the beneficiary of a K1 fiance(e) petition.

An approval K1 petition is valid for 4 months from the date of approval. Since your petitioned was approved more than 4 months ago it is expired. It may be revalidated for an additional 4 months provided the Consular Officer concludes that the petitioner's and the beneficiary's intentions are still to get married. Please ask your fiance(e) to send us a letter stating that both of you remain legally free to marry and that you continue to intend to marry each other within 90 days after your admission into the United States. If you do not contact us within 6 months your petition will be destroyed.

OK - why are they sending me this? What for? I mean, I just got letter from them in December with my interview date and everything else. I am really confused and don't know if I am now still supposed to go to my interview or not. I swear, these people are more than backward and frustrating! I tried calling them but the darn pone just rings and rings.

Sandra

Do not be nervous, simply do as they ask... They simply want a re-affirmation of your intent. Please remember you are dealing with bureaucrats, it is a procedural thing...

Phoning the consulate is not always the best method of contact... Have you tried e-mail?

It's just as they state, an approved petition is only valid for 4 months, all they want is one of those intent to marry letters sent to them so they can go ahead and continue with your process, knowing that you still want it. It's nothing to worry about and once they have the letter they'll extend your NOA2 validity and you'll go to your interview just fine. Just ask your fiance to send the letter.

OK. Why do they do this though? The reason the petition expired is because they take so long. Is this a normal thing that everyone gets?

Thank you for the fast response.

Is it normal? I would say it is not abnormal or unusual for them to make this request.....

Thank you! I will have my fiance write the letter and mail it off TODAY! I'm so glad I found this forum - you guys are truly helpful.

Yes, it's a normal thing, I mean, it's normal for petitions to be extended at their will or at the request of the petitioner and the beneficiary, all they want is confirmation. I'd send two intent to marry letters now, one from you and one from your fiance, with original signatures (no copies).

Ok - good idea. I will write one too! Thanks a lot! :)

I agree. Get your fiance to send them a letter stating, that you both are still legally free to marry and willing to do so withing 90 days of your entering the United States (as soon as you have the visa of course). No big deal, it just sucks that you have to work extra because they took their sweet time.

I guess that is the part that is so irritating to me - the fact that they took so long and now I need to run around even more. I have anxiety disorder and this kind of stuff upsets my stomach. LOL

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMEDICAL EXAM

Hello arch and cel,

I will have my medical exam next week. I will go on the schedule given by USE. I want to ask if they will postponed/rescheduled the ME if there's a monthly period.

I advice you to go there w/o ur mothly period bec in physical exam u must take off all ur clothes including your underwear and lying on bed open ur 2 legs infront of the doctor. The doctor take a look on your private and ask u to open ur ####### ewwwww!!! can u imagine that?

What the heck?? I had my exam 3 weeks ago and I swear no doctor looked at my private. I had to first of all answer some questions that he asked me, then he asked me to get undressed but ONLY down to my underwear. He then examined my body from back and front. He listened to my chest/lungs, etc. He checked my reflexes - everything that they do for a basic physical. Then I had my blood taken. After that, I went and had a chest x-ray done. That was it!

So I wonder why some people have to show their private and whatever else? that's not right. What goes for one should go for all.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical Exam/Vaccination Question

That's a good question.
I didn't think that those applying for this visa need the vaccines now to travel - but will for the AOS so they get them now.
My fiance also is supposed to get his last shot in March and we may have our interview then.

Years ago, I had that problem when travelling abroad and they gave me my final shot a few weeks early if I remember correctly.

According to the Embassy website, I don't need these shots. However, the Dr who did my exam in Berlin says I need them now. He wont send off my exam paperwork UNTIL he receives my shot record. So now Im trying to rush to get all these shots so I can mail him my record. Im so overwhelmed and stressed out!

I wish I would have never left the states a few years ago - I wouldn't be going through this now! I actually got my permanent resident card when I was 7. I lived in Texas ALL of my life. I left Texas in 2002 though and had NO clue that I needed a re-entry permit or anything. So now, here I am, having to go through this crazy process all over again.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical Exam/Vaccination Question

I was never told I needed Hep B shots. According to the vaccination list (from my Packet 3), if you are 18 and older, you don't need the Hep B shots for immigration purposes.

Oh gosh, according to that list, I got one that I didnt even need. The one I am missing is varicella. I already had chicken pox though so do I need that anyway? Thank you for that list!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical Exam/Vaccination Question

OK, I just have one more question because I am rather confused. I had my medical exam 3 weeks ago. At the time, I could not get my vaccinations done because I had pneumonia. The panel physician told me to go ahead and just get the vaccinations form my regular doctor later on once the pneumonia cleared up. So, here I am, January 4th and my interview is February 2nd. The thing that confuses me is this:

I am getting vaccinations done today including the Hep B. My doctor says you need 3 Hep B vaccinations. She says there is not sufficient time to get all 3 shots between now and February 2nd. What do I do now? I am worried I will have problems because of this.

Can someone help me out? Thanks in advance!

If you are over 25 years old that the Hep B vaccination is contra-indicated - at least that's what they told me (I'm 27) and why I did not receive mine. Normally Hep B is given in three doses 1st one, then 2nd after a month and then 3rd one after around 6 months or in some cases after a year (kind of like tetanus shots). If you start the vaccination you just need the proof that you are under regime and that the other shots will be received after your interview. Best of luck!
Mel

Thank you so much! I wonder where on earth they find these panel physicians at because it seems like some of them are even confused. The panel physician told me to get the Hep B, MMR, Varicella, Diptheria, tetanus, and Polio. i think that was it. See, yesterday AFTER I posted this message on here, I happened to find my vaccination checklist ... I also read on there that Hep B was not required. I think it said until age 19. I am 31 lol.

Ok, I guess I will call these people in Berlin back and tell them that they need to get their info right. I dont want to get anything unnecessary. Not to mention, Hep B vaccination will cost me 65 euros. The other vaccinations were covered by my insurance.

Just to make sure I get things correct, what vaccinations did you have to get? I was told I needed all for my age because I lost my original vaccination record. I'm confused!

Thank you so much for your reply!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionINTERVIEW

what are you filing for, K-1? My now husband interview time wasn't set, but we arrived at the consulate like at 6 in the mornig there was a long line. He got in there like at 8 then they called him like at 9 or so. He said that when he went in the interview was like less then ten minutes but we waited till 1pm to get his visa, the printing was what took a long time.

So he got his visa the same day? That's great! Why do some get it mailed and others get it the same day?

I think I'm going to be mad if I show up with all these stamps that they ask for if I end up getting the visa the same day LOL

You won't be getting it the same day unless you have a reason for it. I have heard of people going back to the Frankfurt consulate two days after the interview to pick it up but I don't think they'll print it right that day. Make sure nothing is missing for the interview and you'll have the visa within a week.

My interview itself lastet maybe 5 minutes without the waiting in between. Alltogether I was in there for maybe 25 minutes.

Hallo! :)

Well, a week isn't bad. I'd rather them mail it than wait forever to get it there. LOL

Oh, what time did you go to the interview? I'm trying to figure out what time I should be out there standing in line.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionINTERVIEW

Can someone please tell me from their own experience or heard from someone else how long is the interview, what do they usually ask and do they really look at all those papers that your fiance bring with him?

I suppose that would depend on the consulate. My wife waited 4 hours for a 10 minute interview. All her paperwork was complete and in order and she was asked only four questions. That was it....

4 hours for 10 minutes? That reminds me of my Dr's office. LOL

I was given my x-ray and told to carry it with me on the plane because customs will want to see it at the POE when I try to enter the US. How many of you had the x-ray with you and actually had it looked at?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPaying the visa application fee (HELP!)
OK, I am trying to go tomorrow and pay my 85 Euro application fee. On my instructions, it says to just transfer the fee to the Bank in Berlin and it has all the bank info. Then I end up here at the embassy site to check if the current fee is still 85 euros, and read this:

http://berlin.usemba...essing_fee.html

Visa Processing Fee and Application Procedures

Persons applying in Germany for a visa to travel to the United States are required to complete an online payment confirmation form in order to obtain a secure receipt for the visa processing fee.

Please tell me I don't have to do this online thing because I don't understand it. It also says nothing about this on my instructions that I received from them. It simply states to transfer it to their bank and get a bank transfer receipt with the original stamp from the bank.

What if I don't get the type of receipt they want? I don't know what it's supposed to look like because I have always done online transfers.

And one more thing, it says to attach the receipt to my application. Ummm, THEY have my application so what the hell? :help:

PS. I forgot to mention .... this is for the fee you have to pay before the interview. I am so lost. This whole visa process is confusing to me and I can't seem to comprehend any darn thing about it. :(

I was diagnosed of having a minimal tuberculosis yesterday. Whatta frustrating and disappointing day for me.. But then, it was a blessing that I have found out about it this early than later on my medical examination.

Anyways, what other test should I take in advance so I would not be in trouble when my medical examination and interview already schedules?

Thanks!
