I'm fine with waiting what has been the norm, approx 6 months from filing to getting my bride here, that is what my SO and i are expecting. I'm not going to piss off no politician by e-mailing and complaining when there is no need to yet.

Now if my petition takes longer than what is posted on the USCIS site, I will take appropriate action then, only when I have a leg to stand on.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresexpedite for active duty military possible?

Has anyone seen any favoritism shown to active duty military who apply to get a K1 Visa? I'm not sure if they will help the process go faster for military or not.

Would it be inappropriate to include photocopies of my military ID with my I129 package??

Hey Squid!!

There is an Army Lt on here who was able to expedite his paperwork for his Ozzie wife, he is about to deploy to Iraq. If you about to deploy, I would get with the legal officer onboard your ship or shore installation for assistance.

BTW, don't mind the one with the attitude, any and all military (Active, Reserve, National Guard, Retired) DESERVE any little break that they can catch for their service to their country, even if it is for someone one unappreciative of services. Sometimes you just want to reach through your monitor and ..........well, you get the picture.

Not in this case. My fiancee moved back to the Philippines with me after I did some work in Thailand. We moved back to Thailand last January but I had to come back to the states due to a death in the family a few weeks later.

Do any of you ever wonder how it is that you are in the position that you are at the mercy of your Government regarding your marriage? Maybe if everyone had to go through a similar process our divorce rate wouldn't be so high.

I never wonder how it is because as my relationship was in its first days, I started doing some research on what I was getting myself into. I knew before I ever saw my now wife on the webcam and heard her voice that if the relationship matured, we would be faced with an (optimistically) 6 to 10 month separation while we went through the visa process. I knew enough about the pitfalls to know the separation could be much longer and that there would be spans of months with no apparent progress. My wife knew the same, because she already had two friends ahead of us in the process, one in the US and one half way through.

I don't know how unprepared or uninformed people manage to hold things together as they are hit by one unforseen bit of information about the process after another.

BINGO..........always so sensible, good man! good.gif

Thanks SgdnGuns for the quick reply. Does it matter about the copsonor and the fact that im filing at the philippines embassy. I hear some inconsistent things about this embassy and their willing to accept co-sponsors.

Someone who has dealt with the embassy for that issue will have to answer that.

The Manila Embassy is a pain in the ###, it was quicker for me to go to the American Embassy in Singapore to get more pages for my passport than to have it done in Manila.

QUOTE (JubaKando @ Feb 13 2008, 12:50 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello all, I have followed this forum for a long time now but never posted, sorry. Well a quick overview before my questions. I applied for K-1 visa for my fiancee in the philippines in September 2007, we have received or NOA2 already. My questions are: 1. I know military personnel have a little easy time with the visa processing, just wondering if federal employees have any benefits to this? 2. I am a college student right now, I will be expected to graduate in March/April I have no other previous years of employment except this year and my current job is full time seasonal, which means the job will not last too long but pays well. I have my mother as my cosponsor and she makes well above the 125 poverty level. Will I run into problems as a public charge? I will be looking for a another job for a full time permanent job as soon as I graduate (possible ADJUDICATIONS OFFICER whistling.gif ) but I think by the time my fiancee has her interview all i will have to show is 2-3 months pay stubs from this seasonal job and my mom as my cosponsor. Can anyone advise any other options? The overall picture looks good for us, my fiancee just graduated from college and will be in the medical field and Ill be a college grad as well, do they consider these things as well? Thanks all

My opinion............

1: No

2: No, mom as co-sponsor should be good to go.

Good Luck

Like the topic says, what EXACTLY are the service centers checking on during a K-1 visa petition?? Do they validate that all your papers are correct? Do they do a background check? I am just curious as to what actually happens there with all the paperwork we send.

Yes, they do a background check on the petitioner, sometimes that slows up petitions if you have a very common name and there are some criminals with the same name.

To all members of VJ,

If my fiancee got the visa today, does she have to enter in the U.S right away or there is a month period? how does the fiancee visa work? she's thinking staying in Japan for couple of months to prepare everything before coming to U.S, she's worried that might get expired the visa before she get everything ready.

Please help us, thanks!

I'm presuming your fianceé has the K1 visa? She has up to 90 days in which to enter the US upon receiving the visa and then a further 90 days to get married. Hope this answers your question.

I beg to differ, fiance(e) has 6 months to enter US and then 90 days to marry upon arrival.
