Just out of curiosity, does it help your case if the beneficiary's spouse is at the interview? Do COs like to see that? We have a daughter too. Should we bring her? Jw.Thanks

My attorney said it was helpful to have the petitioner at the interview. It shows that the petitioner has made the effort to come to the beneficiary's country. Be sure your Embassy or Consulate allows it though. We had to get written permission (via email) for me to attend the interview.

So...what does one bring to an IR-1/CR-1 interview?  Other than copies of everything that has already been submitted, is there really a need to bring huge amounts of documentation to prove that we have a bona fide marriage?

We are planning to attend the interview together.  We will bring wedding photos, and we have tons of co-mingled finances proving that we've been together for more than 5 years (married for 1 year, 4 months).

The only thing we submitted with my I-130 was our marriage certificate.

Australia is a low risk country, and even with greater openness these days, I don't think there are many 60-year-old same-sex couples trying to sneak into the US...

Thoughts anyone?

I am moving in, my case(s) completed today, I am going to be OPTIMISTIC that I am in the right place and will get a July interview--  I am HOPING and PRAYING I do not have to move to the AUGUST Interview Forum-

what do you think?  case complete 6/20 = priority date 8/20/13 if that means anything-

Dear FD & MDVL - well you don't have to physically move to the August Interview forum - since the July one just rolls over all by itself.  I would think that a July interview has only a slim possibility at this point.  Perhaps it is better to expect an August interview date, and then get very, very excited if a July one comes through.  It's usually 4-6 weeks from the time you find out that your case is complete.

I'm glad you finally have CC!  It's such an exciting thing to happen.  But of course, you then start pining for your interview letter!!!

Hey Sukie, we're interview twins!

Except yours will be way before mine since you live in the future ;)

That makes three of us, then!  Snikit15, who is on this list, has their interview at the same exact time as ours (Sydney brings you in to two piles - and we are both in Pile #1 on July 1st).  We're hoping to meet for breakfast beforehand!

July will be a happy month!

I called NVC today and confirmed that my packet left NVC on 13 June 2014.  Of course, that was the Express Packet it was loaded in, but it didn't actually LEAVE NVC until the 16th.  It arrived in Sydney yesterday morning, so I'm relieved.  My status still says "In Transit" even though the packet is in the hands of the Consulate.

10 days until the interview!!!

I don't believe the CEAC site.

I got a Case Complete on June 4, and an Interview letter on June 11.  My CEAC status still says "In Transit" - 13 days after my interview letter arrived.  There have been two packets that have arrived in Sydney - one (1 pound) on Monday and one (3.3 pounds) on Thursday.  But both of us scheduled for an interview on July 1st (Snikit15 and I) still have "In Transit" for our statuses (statii????)

I'll call at the end of the week to see exactly when my file was sent...

And LoveMyTico - what I think is that each EXP packet that leaves NVC contains multiple dates - so finding your specific one is hard.  I just enter every single date and snoop!

13??? Did I type "13"????  I'm better at math than that....I meant 9 days....

Hi Sukie! I have been trying to track them and I think they might already be there. Do I need to get permission to be at the interview too? I thought I could just go and also bring our bubs.

You must write to the Sydney Consulate and get written permission for you and your bub to be there.  If your name isn't on the list, you won't be able to enter the Consulate.  You can find the email address on their website.  Be SURE to get written permission from them!

Hopefully now, if they have our files, they'll get back to us!

All you folks waiting for your interviews...

I've been checking the DHL site like a maniac.  The last package *I* can find is from June 13th!!!  There was a huge batch that went out on the 11th, and some on the 12, with one to Ireland on the 13th, but absolutely NOTHING since then.

I think my file is already at the Sydney Consulate (I think it got there Monday morning, Aussie time), but my case status has been "In Transit" since last Friday.

Has anyone else been trying to track their package from NVC to their Embassy/Consulate?

The ONLY reason I'm a little nervous is that we have to get written permission for me to attend the interview - and we've written the Consulate, with no reply.  If our case hasn't reached Sydney yet, I fear they will not answer the email.  I'd just like to know that the file has arrived....

OK - so some of the L-Girls have changed to "Ready" - that's great!  I think Sydney has our file (not sure, though), and I'm checking every hour or so to see if the status has changed.  I wonder if the consulates actually send an email saying "Ok - we have received this file", or whether some person at NVC checks the DHL status and clicks a button on the NVC system to indicate "Ready".

Oh - and this "new" status screen thingie....if I go to ceac.state.gov/ceac   it comes up with the two-field entry.  If I go away for a couple of hours and come back, (leaving the screen open on my computer), it has changed to the three-field entry screen.

I want a "READY"!!!!!  We wrote the Sydney Consulate asking formal permission for me to attend the interview with Julie.  We have not had a reply yet, but people have reported that it takes 3-5 working days for them to reply to an email.

Just wondering.. Did someone of you had to wait two weeks or more for a case complete email? Our case has been completed since June 2, but not a word ever since.

Cheers

How about finding a place that will scan it and put it on CD for you? If you haven't done the X-ray yet, how about finding a lab that is out of the stone age who will provide you with a CD version? I don't think a sanctioned panel physician is a must since the embassy doesn't care for it.

Too late, but a great idea, MoBar65!!!  And the X-ray is part of the bundle in Brisbane.  I don't think there was an option to go anywhere else!

Yes take with you even though they will not take it carry it to interview and at POE.

Thanks - we'll take the X-rays to the interview.  At POE, can the X-rays be placed in the checked baggage, or does she need to have it in her carry-on luggage?  The envelope is so big, and it would be hard to keep them flat and unbent in carry-on luggage...

Does the beneficiary need to take the X-rays to the interview?

We were told by the civil surgeon's office that Julie should take the medical envelope (sealed) to the interview and that she should carry her X-rays in her luggage when she immigrated.

I don't want any delays because she doesn't have her X-rays at the interview.  Of course, the X-ray folder is HUGE!

Any thoughts?

Hi everyone, I am going through the consulate in Sydney, Australia and read that we needed to submit "packet 3" with a "statement of readiness to interview". Has anyone else heard this? As far as I knew, NVC would send all the docs to the consulate and I would only have to bring passport photos, passport, the medical info, proof of our relationship, and copies of the into we sent to NVCalong with receipts of payment.

snikit15, the website for the Sydney Consulate is soooooo outdated!  It still has the instructions for DCF - and Australia doesn't do that anymore!  NVC will send the docs to the Consulate, and you will bring exactly what you list above.

There is so much that is outdated on ALL the US Embassy sites!

Let me know when you get your date - I'm not too far behind you!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - June 2014

I'll share my post to Facebook yesterday...my "immiversary"...

One year ago today, one day after Section 3 of DOMA was repealed, Julie and I started on what was supposed to be a 5-month journey through the US Green Card process for a spousal visa. Due to bureaucratic ineptitude, 365 days later, Julie is still in Australia without a Green Card. During this year, we've endured two major health scares, the death of a parent, the death of a dear pet, the costs of multiple trans-Pacific airline flights - and have spent more days apart in our separate countries than we have together.

It has been a long, frustrating process. I have never felt as impotent or as helpless or as angry as I have during this past year. The system appears to punish those of us who try to follow the rules and do things by the book. Who knew that every government department we've had to deal with has a different book of rules??? Who knew that one set of rules is out-of-date by five years, and still hasn't been corrected, and that it would cost us yet another month of being apart? Who knew that the thousands of dollars necessary to move through this process give you no assurance of ANY customer service?

The year has been a terrible one - but for those bi-national couples where one member is from a high-risk or high-fraud country such as Nigeria, Pakistan or Egypt, the wait could be far worse than 365 days. The process is so very broken.

The light is at the end of the tunnel. Julie and I will be at the US Consulate in Sydney next week for the visa interview. We hope that within another month, we will be able to walk through immigration at JFK together - and that we never have to worry about Julie being turned away again.

Prayers and good thoughts for a positive outcome on July 1st are welcomed!

Thanks it was a breeze, I am at the last part. Am I supposed to put yes for both questions?

I am stuck at the social security part

Do you want the Social Security Administration to issue a Social Security number and a card?

Do you authorize disclosure of information from this form to the Department of Homeland Security, the Social Security Administration, and such other U.S. Government agencies as may be required for the purposes of assigning you a social security number (SSN) and issuing you a Social Security card and do you authorize the Social Security Administration to share your S?

If you want the Social Security Number process to begin as soon as you enter at POE, then answer yes to both questions.  If you answer yes to Question 1, you MUST answer yes to Question 2.

If you want to wait and go to your local SS Office yourself and start the process manually, then put no.

Hi msc, -- Yes, I'm talking about the visa package...the papers/visa we have to travel back to the US with.

I'm trying to get time frames from folks who've gone thru the process.  I've read thru the interviews on the Sydney site and the times vary.  I'm hoping for fresh updates.

Three of us here on VJ, jajaju, snikit15 and me, have interviews on July 1st in Sydney.  We'll let you know how long it takes.  I'm in QLD, Snikit is in WA, and I'm not sure where jajaju is from...

Here's a question...

My spouse will get a Conditional 2-year green card, as we've only been married a year and a half  (darn it!).  When she does ROC in two years, will she get a 10-year green card, or one with just 8 years of validity left?

Although technically just the page with the 3 amounts will be updated, it's probably best to print out the entire thing again. If not, at least print out the page requiring the sponsor's signature as well, since the form has updated information and the petitioner should sign it.

Thanks, Saylin!  Will do!

Yes, you should update the I-864 with the new 2013 amount (then use 2012 and 2011 as the other two previous years). Then bring the 2013 tax transcript as well to the interview. They may not want the updated I-864, but it's still a good idea to fill out and bring, just in case.

Ah - I had the same question.  My AOS was approved on April 15th, and was accepted with 2012, 2011, and 2010 data. The P4 letter said the following:

Bring updated Federal income tax information to the interview. If a sponsor filed an I-864 (Affidavit of
Support) and provided the NVC with proof of an IRS Federal income tax extension in lieu of a Federal
income tax return, bring the sponsor's most recent Federal income tax return to the visa interview.

I was going to send my 2013 tax transcript with my spouse to the interview, but I'll fill out a new I-864 as well.  Should I do the whole form, or just the page with the three numbers?

Oh wow! Hey neighbor! Do you mind me asking where in Back Bay? I'm in the Pru for now. Funnily enough the company I'm joining was located in the Pru as well, right up until about 2 weeks before they contacted me about the opportunity. It would've been hugely awkward to work for a new company in the same building! I'm pretty relieved they moved downtown, lol.

Hey, my old stomping ground! Went to grad school at BU, and lived on Marlborough Street between Mass Ave and Hereford.  Shopped at the Stah Mahket at the Pru, and attended Emmanuel Church on Newbury Street.  Of course, this is 3 decades ago...I've grown old!
