Julie and I passed through immigration at JFK about 3 hours ago.  It was extremely easy.  I'll write more later in the reviews - but we are so exhausted after our 26 hour flights from Australia that we are napping now!

My interview letter said 24JUN2013 in the subject as well, we had CC on April 3 and interview on May 19 this year. No idea why that date is there but it's not relevant to your cases :)

Pretty sure that is the date of the FORM - meaning the last day that particular form letter was changed was 24Jun2013...

Hey guys, just want to confirm this... the DS-260 confirmation page is the page titled "Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Application Confirmation" right?

That's correct, Dirk!

Thanks!  That's what I thought but the guy at the embassy said we had to pay before entering the USA.  I trust VJ more than him!

It is the combination of the $165 payment, and your immigration at POE that triggers the physical Green Card being printed.  Most of us want that little card!  So pay before POE, or as quickly as possible after POE so your Green Card generation gets into the system!

I have a question about the immigrant fee, do you need to bring proof that you paid it to the POE?  I printed out a page, but it doesn't really look official.

LucyBelle, I don't think we need it, but I printed out ours and Julie will carry it anyway.  And you are correct - it doesn't look very official - but it does have some important numbers on it to prove you've paid it!

Remember to gently remind your officer about the SSN number tickmark!

This here everyone is the most important piece of tracking casefiles to embassy. This is the actually date NVC puts in that your case-file left. Than the other dates s the range. Usually its best to not put country of origin. Just leave blank get everywhere.

Shippers Reference: EXP 10 JUL 2014A

You have to play with the days sometime.  My "packet" was EXP 13 JUN 2014A, with my status changing to "In Transit" late on the 13th.  But it didn't actually leave NVC until the 16th of June.  Like someone else has said, it appears that many cases are assigned "shipment" dates on a Friday - but they don't actually leave or get picked up by DHL until a later date.  That's why you need to put a date range in.  I would suggest at least 3 days prior to your "date" and 3 days afterwards.  I actually NEEDED to put my country (Australia) in, as there were so many packets sent out on my dates that they didn't all show up - and I couldn't figure out how to scroll through multiple pages.

Thanks for listing all of these!  I'm well aware of the drop-down menu.  I've tried about 10 different entries on the drop-down, and I still get Chicago.  I've tried typing the direct URL for JFK on the top line, and still get Chicago.  It's definitely something on my profile....

Can I ask someone for a big favor?

We are immigrating next Tuesday at JFK.  For some reason, my profile here on VJ is stuck on POE: Chicago, and no matter what I do, I cannot see the reviews for POE: JFK

If someone would mind taking a quick peek at the JFK reviews for say, the last six months, specifically for IR-1/CR-1 visas, and let me know if there are any roadblocks we should prepare for?

Not sure if JFK has the specific "Immigration" line or not.  I was hoping that the two of us could front up in the US Citizen's line together, and then they'd take Julie to secondary to process her forms.  Of course, we'll ask the person who is shunting folks into the appropriate lines when we get there, but I was hoping to have some background data....

Many thanks.  I've written Captain Ewok for help, but I'm not sure the Captain can fix my profile in time!

Guys I have a question regarding the interview letter where it says..

***IMPORTANT *** Interview Reminders
Bring updated Federal income tax information to the interview. If a sponsor filed an I-864 (Affidavit of Support) and provided the NVC with proof of an IRS Federal income tax extension in lieu of a Federal income tax return, bring the sponsor's most recent Federal income tax return to the visa interview.

Do my husband (the beneficiary )need to bring an updated federal tax information and a new I-864 on his interview day from the sponsor and joint sponsor? I being the petitioner and my brother the joint sponsor, we both filed are tax return last april..and there is no changes on any information we already put on the I-864 we submitted before..

Mai, it's a good question.  My AOS was approved on April 15th with 2010, 2011, and 2012 data.  My interview letter said the exact same thing as yours did.  So I printed out my 2013 tax transcript and FBAR filing, and was ready to turn these over at my spouse's interview.  I had also prepared a "new" I-864 with the 2011, 2012 and 2013 data.

The data checker clerk and the interviewer never even asked for them.

I *THINK* this request is only for those who filed a 2013 extension and submitted proof of their extension filing in their AOS.  The consulate expects that those extension filers have actually filed their 2013 by now.

If your AOS was submitted with 2011, 2012, and 2013 data, there IS no update, and you should be fine.  I think it is standard language.

Stupid question here, but does the embassy ever send any mail directly to applicant? I could of sworn I had read that they forward all the documents to the applicant after the nvc sent the information to the embassy, or has that changed...or maybe I am just making things up >.>

The Australian Consulate sent us an email after they printed my spouse's visa.  It was kind of like getting written documentation of the fact that she was approved.

However - I don't know if every embassy does this...

2 quick questions that I can't remember if I've asked before: 1. Do CO's like to see the petitioner with the beneficiary at the interview? 2. Do I need to send 2 more passport sized photos to my wife for the interview? Or is that not required?

Thanks

Our attorney said they like to see the petitioners - it shows that they care enough to get themselves over to the beneficiary's country.

If the interview letter says to bring passport photos, then bring passport photos.  The photos have to be "recent", and many of us have been so damned long in this process the photos are older than 6 months.  Julie still had 3 passport photos in her packet - and they STILL took the new photos and used those for her visa.

Sukie

hey guys - For those of you preparing or have had your interviews, did you just bring an exact copy of the packets that you submitted to USCIS and NVC?  Or did you put together a different packet for interview?

Thanks!

We brought copies of the I-864 and DS-260, plus copies of all civil documents, tax documents and anything else we submitted.  I also had all the NOAs.  We didn't need any of it, but I sure felt better having it!

Hi Sukie

I did a quick google search. Looks like this is just the notation showing that the officer gave her a blanket waiver for an incomplete vaccination record (for those vaccines that are not age appropriate, for example). I would think it's all good. (Since my vaccination sheet from the doctor doesn't have the "not age appropriate" box checked, but the doctor said it didn't need to, I'm taking all my vaccination records and that table with what's required/not required to the interview. Just in case. I also plan on having my big giant folder with me at POE, when that time comes.)

Example:
http://www.visajourn...tten-212-g-2-b/

Thanks Gee and Cee!

Julie told me that the Civil Surgeon put an indication on her record because she hadn't had a meningecoccal (I cannot even spell it!) vaccine.  I think that is baloney.  It's not even indicated for her age (59) - so why does she need an annotation for it?  She had all of the required vaccines for her age, plus the flu shot, plus stuff that wasn't even required!

OK - I won't worry about it - but I think it stinks....

Congratulations to all visa approvals!  :goofy:

I'm curious, what exactly "DO NOT OPEN envelope" looks like? A4 size envelope?

Yes - an A4 manila envelope with a one page Immigrant Summary stapled to the front.  Ours was sealed with a clear Consulate sticker and had "Do Not Open" stamped all over it, plus a 3" x 4" label on the back.

One can tell that there is a rubber band around the papers.  You can feel it through the manila envelope (some people will say a "kraft envelope").

At the Consulate, we saw the file - it's just all the civil document copies, the police report, copies of the I-864 and DS-260 and the medical, plus a thousand pictures stapled to everything.

There were extra pictures in our bundle, but they still took the pictures we were told to bring and used the newest ones for the visa in the passport.

This is from the Sydney Consulate in Australia.  Your embassy/consulate might have a different process.

By the way, we did NOT receive any instructions for paying the Immigrant Fee.  There was a checked box on the label that said we had to pay it, but no instructions anywhere.  I found the ELIS signon thing to be quite tedious.  Thank goodness for Visa Journey!

On Julie's visa in her passport, she has the annotation:  212(g)(2)(B)

What does this mean?  I looked it up, and it seems to have something to do with vaccinations, but she had all of hers, plus some!!!

Does she need to prepare some nice answer for this when she gets to the POE?

I would keep that piece of paper on me at POE (it is proof enough), but I thought paying this fee is not mandatory prior to POE. Don't forget to mention politely that you elected to get a Social Security Card while the officer is clicking away at his/her monitor.

MoBar65 - it is not mandatory to have paid the immigrant fee by the time you arrive at the POE.  However, your physical Green Card will NOT be generated until the fee is received (and you have entered the US).  Most people I know want to have that little card in their hot little hands rather than rely on the stamp in the passport, and they want it as soon as possible!

Then while politely reminding the officer about the Social Security Number, one can also whip out the immigrant fee receipt to prove that the physical Green Card process can start!

okay so serious question about us before interview..

We filed tax return as Married Filling joint without my wife SSN or ITIN number.

we didn't file ITIN number coz it was too late for us now.. And IRS already accepted Tax return.

So if they ask question about my AOS what should my wife tell them at Interview?

Question might be like this,

" why you don't have ITIN number in your join tax return?"

OR

How you file Join Tax return without ITIN number ?

Answer either of those truthfully...

1.  We did not know about the ITIN, and just filed the return, and the IRS accepted it!

2.  We did not know about the ITIN, and just filed the return, and the IRS accepted it!

I don't think you'll get that question, but have her get very big innocent eyes and shake her head!

Great to see so many interviews scheduled this week :) Hope to see many more next week for everyone else still waiting!

I have spent the morning sorting through all our paperwork so my husband can take it to the interview on the 9th. Despite every reviewer of the Sydney Consulate talking about how easy it was an how they didn't have to provide any information, I am still stressing a little and sending it all in. On this note, just wondering if I should provide updated documents? Our AOS package had bank statements through to May, do you think I should get printouts through to now? Also looking back at our original I130 package where we sent proof of our relationship, it stops at July 2013 - is it worth sending updated photos etc. to now? Australia is a low fraud country and I have been living here the entire time which they will know, but not sure if I should put together an addition to the original timeline and photos I sent or not. I will be attending the interview with my husband.

Feeling a little silly asking this, but any tips on what he should wear to the interview? He wouldn't turn up scruffily, I just don't know if jeans and a polo is acceptable or if he should wear suit trousers and a collared shirt. Of course with that decision comes the worry about what I will wear.... it's all too much!   :D

Meehan,

You don't need to bring updated bank statements - especially if you are comfortably above the poverty level for your family.  Your I-130 was already approved - you do not need to add to it.

Nice jeans and a polo are fine.  Julie wore black jeans and a nice blouse and casual jacket.  I wore black knit slacks, a soft shirt and a shirt jacket.  We interviewed at the same time as another family who wore blue jeans.  We also saw an older couple who were in khaki slacks and casual shirts.  There was ONE woman there who was fairly dressy - and she seemed out of place.

And honestly, you should have seen the AMERICANS who came in for American Citizen's Services!  Totally scruffy!!!!

My interview day is approaching and I was gathering all required materials.

From the interview letter I could confirm 'photographs' were already sent to the embassy, however the letter also says I should bring 'two passport size photographs' for the interview.

I am not sure if I would need to bring two more photos in addition to the ones I've already sent to NVC. Any advice? thank you.

Bring new photos.  ID photos are supposed to be no less than six months old.  Because of delays at NVC, sometimes your photos are not as new as they'd like them to be.  They really like "recent" photos for the Green Card.

Good luck!

Hi there,

Thanks so much for the information you provided earlier in the thread. Would you mind giving me an idea of what my husband should be preparing for the interview? I've read all the lists but wanted to see if there is anything Australian specific that we may have missed. Also, did you receive a letter form the embassy with all the information they require you to bring to the interview?

Thanks and I hope it all goes well!

The Sydney Consulate is fairly easy.  Here are things to consider...

We were NOT asked for the DS-260 confirmation.  We took anything that was on our interview letter (plus copies of everything else), but we were not asked for anything.  Nada.  Zilch.

The interview letter will come from NVC via email.

If you are going to the interview with your husband, you need to write the Consulate via email and get written permission to attend.  They will send you an acknowledgement and tell you to bring the letter with you when you come.  We had this, and were not asked for it at all.

And, if your hubby's results from his medical are on a CD-rom, he will need to show this to security, and make sure they understand what the CD is.  If they don't allow him to take it up, he'll have to go all the way back down to the 10th floor and retrieve it!

Good luck!!!!

I'm not sure if it varies by practitioner, but the Bridge St clinic in South Melbourne doesn't require case complete, an interview, or any consular correspondence for the medical :) my husband had his done last week without issue.

Echoing Meehan.  You just need your Case Number!  It took 4 days for my spouse to get her results (in Brisbane).  We live about 1.5 hours south of Brisbane - so we were glad we could take the train into the city to pick up the results!

I didn't find that getting an ITIN was difficult at all. It just took a long time. Like 3 months. The fact that filing has taken 1 year, it was worth it to collect the extra money on my tax return. Especially because I'm the only one working.

The IRS REJECTED our request for an ITIN, saying my spouse didn't have a "real need" for one.  Because we were in the NVC process, we couldn't risk the IRS keeping her passport for up to six weeks, so we went into a local IRS office, went through the WHOLE process (including getting a letter from the bank saying she needed one), plus getting a copy of her passport certified from the Consulate in Sydney (which was NOT free!).  But the IRS rejected it anyway.  Luckily, we ended up filing "Married, filing separately" and didn't need it.

And before anyone says anything, it was going to cost us MORE to file jointly because the US and Australia treat capital gains on the sales of homes differently.

I second that. Moreover, some local DMV offices might not know the state rules properly regarding new immigrants.

The temporary I-551 is the IV foil itself once it is validated with a POE stamp on the opposite page within your passport. Here is an example posted by Changnoi two months ago:

MoBar is right.  The visa sticker or visa page (the IV foil) by itself is NOT valid.  You must have the visa page (foil)  AND the handstamp that you get in your passport at the POE to have a "valid" I-551.  I was petrified that the CBP officer would lackadaisically stamp the passport and the stamp might be illegible.  But he did a good "clean" job of stamping!

Sometimes the officer makes the stamp "touch" the foil and sometimes it's just on the page next to the visa page.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - May 2014

So is this normal for the NVC to send reminder emails about the checklist more than once?  I received the official checklist email on Friday May 2nd. I responded with the Birth Cert and it  has been at the NVC since May 6th in the am. So yesterday around 4:30 pm I receive a reminder email asking for the documentation.. then the lawyer forwards the email to me letting me know he received it...I called the NVC at 10:30 last night and told them the document is there and verified that is the only thing we need.  I got the 30 day blah blah blah.  So I wake up this morning to another NVC reminder to send the requested documents. (1:40am)  I just find it odd that they are sending so many reminders and I only received the origianl checklist less than a week ago.( 3 business days).. and they don't even scan the mail for a few days after it gets delivered.    its so strange....  Below is the request..

______CORRESPONDENCE INSTRUCTIONS:_________________________________

When responding to the National Visa Center, please include the bar code sheet that came with this

letter. Failure to include the bar code sheet may cause a delay in the processing of your case. The bar

code sheet should be placed on top of all documents being submitted for this case and mailed to the

address provided.

______1 - IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICATION PART 1:_______________________

The NVC has received the requested Affidavit of Support (Form I-864) or supporting documents.

However, we are still waiting for the response to the checklist letter for the Immigrant Visa Application

or civil documentation. Please return the requested information so that we may complete the processing

of your case.

It's a sinister plot that has been hatched between Joy, Arthur and your attorney - designed to render you completely out of your gourd before you get a Case Complete.  I wouldn't be surprised if you get a zillion more of these from all of Joy's cohorts at the NVC...

The straitjacket will arrive in the mail this evening...
