Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)2 year of administrative processing :(

I think they're telling to to wait still, but to get another medical report and submit it. But perhaps someone who has dealt with the same consulate/embassy would be able to better answer your question.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaEcuador - CR-1 and Marriage questions

I have no idea about the Church, but you can come on a tourist visa and marry as long as it's legal to do so in that state and county and your fiancee meets the residency requirements there. My husband and I did that and then went back to his country where we were living.

Doesnt the ambassy arange for the vog? I didn't had to do anything for it.  If I remember it right. All documents have to be in English or have been certified translations so i would make sure you have to do it yourself or the ambassy does it for you.

I know this is old-ish, but no, the consulate in Amsterdam will not get your VOG for you anymore. You have to order it yourself.

Just found this on the Consulate website: http://amsterdam.usc...ss-coming2.html

The U.S. Consulate General in Amsterdam will be transitioning to a new and improved visa appointment system on June 19, 2014. Please note the visa application fee will not increase with the coming changes.

Specific details on this new and more convenient way for applicants to pay and schedule a visa submission appointment will be announced closer to the launch of the new services. The implementation of this new system is part of our efforts to continually improve our services for our visa applicants.

This waiting game! I dont want to wait anymore but only a month has passed sadly.

What did you guys do financially? Did you keep money in your bank accounts? Or took out a larger portion and put it in your bank/wife's/husband's account? I am debating on what to do.

It's rough. *hugs*

We're going to have accounts in both countries, but we own a house in the Netherlands (that we're trying to sell, btw!) so as long as we own that, we have to keep paying for it. It's easier through a Dutch financial institution than an American one.

So.... I have this very very important question.

What are some good comparable toilet paper brands to what we have over here in the Netherlands?

I know its silly, butt...

Yeah, I agree with Ralph and Megan, go for at least 2-ply. Unless you like wiping with sand paper. The brand isn't that important, but Charmin is definitely more expensive.

You could try Scott, Angel Soft, Marcal. But a lot of stores have their own cheaper version of the "name brand" stuff, that usually is just as good.

As far as I know, you can't get your police certificate. The Consulate in Amsterdam will request them. It should be the VOG or Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag. https://www.justis.nl/producten/vog/   https://www.justis.n...agen/index.aspx  (But I might be wrong about this.)

As far as marital status, did you get a http://amsterdam.usc...il_status.html? ? I did, incase we were going to try to get married in the Netherlands. (Not realizing that they were only good for 3 months, and not the 6 months that we thought.) But I'm sure that that would suffice as proof that you were free to marry.

As far as the medical, I guess if you live close to Amsterdam that wouldn't be a problem. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong about this, please.) I know that when we had to go do something at the consulate (Like the CRBA's for our kids) we wound up coming up from Limburg the night before and staying in a hotel over night. That gets expensive very quickly. And keep in mind that the medical will expire.

But I'm not as far as you in the process yet, so please take the above with a grain of salt. That's just my interpretation of what I've read.

I honestly wouldn't worry too much though. The Consulate in Amsterdam is awesome. My husband and I have dealt with them a number of times over the past 9 years, and it's actually stunning how efficient a government agency can be when they want to be.

Ok, I double checked with the Consulate, and they said that you do, indeed have to order a VOG. They also said that they're going to remove the outdated information from their system so people won't be confused. ::)

I second that. I would call and confirm that checklist. And then I would call and get a supervisor, because if they're losing your vital paperwork, anyone can be stealing your identity there, and they really need to take this more seriously.

So, if my case was any indication, it's probably like 3 or 4 cases. :P  (For any other Dutch people who got their interview dates recently, the waybill number is 8849907430)

I just checked the waybill again, and it wasn't delivered today because they were closed for Liberation Day. They'll try to deliver it tomorrow. :)

Ok, I was having a problem with that shippers reference, but I figured it out. I also found out that they're using the shipping reference June2014A. Found a package going to Amsterdam with waybill # 8849907430, but it weighs like 20lbs, so I'm not sure my stuff is in there. I mean, I know I sent a lot of stuff, but 20lbs seems a bit much.  :P

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionThe Consulate in Amsterdam is just Awesome!

I wrote them today about getting a Police Certificate for my husband, as I'd found pages by googling that stated that he would be unable to get them and the Consulate would request them for him. They responded that he can now order them for himself, gave me the information on doing that, and asked where the information is that said that the Consulate would obtain them for us. I sent them a few links, and told them there were more, and all they had to do was google "Amsterdam Consulate" and "Police Certificate".  They wrote back and thanked me and said that they'd have the outdated information removed.

All this, done in under 12 hours.  I'm impressed. :P

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionCR6 extension and stamp

Last week I went to the local office to get a stamp to extend my conditional green card. She asked me if I was still married, did some things on the computer, then stamped my passport with a one year extension. US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionIs a unabridged birth certificate needed for K-1 interview?

As a general recommendation, anyone who plans to procure one official/unabridged birth certificate should request TWO of that document. It's always good to have a spare, if only for one's personal files.

Thanks for this TBoneTX! Appreciate that - very good idea!! thumbs up to that one :)
KirstyDustinFemaleSouth Africa2010-12-01 04:12:00
US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionIs a unabridged birth certificate needed for K-1 interview?

I don't know the difference between an "unabridged" and a "normal" birth certificate in South Africa. In some countries they have a "short form" and "long form" birth certificate. The "short form" is actually a transcript of the birth records (sometimes labeled a "certification" rather than "certificate"). The "long form" is usually a reproduction of the actual certificate prepared and signed at the time of birth. In those cases, both USCIS and the consulate want the "long form". You probably should ask in the regional forums what the consulate in South Africa expects.

There should be no reason they'd want a copy of your father's death certificate. It's not relevant to your K1 visa application in any way.

Thank you for your response. I found out last night that it would be better for me to get an unabridged birth certificate. I also found out that we call the long form birth certificate the unabridged (which shows the parents details) and the short form birth certificate the abridged (normal for me) (which shows just my details).

Regarding my fathers death certificate, here is the story : My real father left my Mother before i was born, and so my grandfather wouldn't allow my Mother to put his name on my birth certificate, so the long form birth certificate only has my Mothers details on it. When i was 10 years old my mother married my step father (he is known to me as my father, because he's the only father i've ever known), and he adopted me. We have all the adoption papers etc. That is why i think it might be relevant for the application. Thank you again for your reply :)

In Commonwealth countries, the "long form" BC will always have both parents names and places of birth. "Short form" BCs often omit detailed info about the parents.

Thank you

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionIs a unabridged birth certificate needed for K-1 interview?
Hi all,

I was wondering if someone could help me.

For the interview, do the beneficiaries have to send an unabridged birth certificate or just their normal birth certificate that they have at home? I know that I am only one month into our wait for NOA2, but it is going to take 6 – 8 weeks (maybe longer) to get an unabridged birth certificate if that is what I need to send in.

Also my father passed away in 1998 – do I need to have a copy of his death certificate for the interview to prove he is deceased?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionScheduling Your Medical

Hello all, long time follower first time poster.

My fiancee and I received our NOA2 on December 27th and NVC sent our case to the Johannesburg Embassy on January 3rd. As of today the Embassy hasn't processed our case yet (although I am pretty sure they received it on the 7th, we have a case number). My question is can my fiancee schedule her medical appointment even though the Embassy hasn't processed our case?

Thanks for your help.

J&A

Hi There.
I am still waiting for our NOA2, i've called the place i have to go for my medical in Durban and she sent me the information of what is needed etc. The medical is valid for a year, so i've decided to start getting the vaccinations i need done now and the blood tests i need and go for my Medical first week in March. I'm doing this just so that i have all the documents ready for when packet 3 arrives. It is however, entirely up to you how you do it. So i'm going to go for my medical before i even get NOA2 or packet 3 - only because it is valid for a year...

Not sure if this helps?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAffidavit of Support I-134?

Hi,

I'm just getting ready for the next stage of our process...anticipating the things I need to take to the consulate, like the affidavit of support. How much money does my fiance need to make? should I be concerned if he doesn't always have a large balance in his bank account? Do I need a co-sponsor?

Oh, and how the heck do you fill out that form? It seems rather confusing, and I'm wondering if anyone can show me an example?

Thank you so much. I love this site!

Hello :)
Your Fiance needs to make $18,212.00 a year if i'm not mistaken. If he doesn't make that you will need a co-sponsor...
Also your Fiance needs to fill the I-134 out :)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionSouth African Interview Experiences?

I was wondering the same thing. All the reviews seem to be from 2010. I'm just getting my paperwork together now and will file soon (prepared for the long wait :) ) but it would be nice to see more recent experiences.

That's why i started this :) i would like to know about the most recent interviews (if any). i have had feedback from one couple that just went through their interview in Feb - was quite a nice experience, but want to hear more :) lol...

All the 2010 one's seem to be great, so lets hope it continues that way until we have our interviews :)

Good luck with the process - it's a long hard wait for quite a few, I thought our 5 months has gone pretty quickly (next Thursday is our 5 month mark)...

I was wondering if any South Africans could tell me about their K-1 interviews at the JHB embassy - like what questions were asked, what information you took with you, what documents did they ask from you to have a look at?, etc.

I'm hoping to get my NOA2 soon, and would just like to see how each K-1 interview experience went for everyone there :)

I originally thought it was only in JHB, but since others have asked me I have started to second guess myself... THat is why I am trying to find out if JHB IS the only K-1 visa issuing post now.

I will just call the consulates on Tuesday and find out that way.

Thank you for the reply.
